Vielleicht sollte man aber an einigen Stellen darauf hinweisen, dass es je nach Produktionsjahr kleine Unterschiede in der Konstruktion gibt. Besonders gemein ist eine Variante an dem Halteblech der Achse mit dem Vierkant: die eine der beiden M5 Senkkopfschrauben hat ein Linksgewinde. Wenn man das nicht weiß ist der Murcks vorprogrammiert.
A machinist friend called me yesterday at 11pm at night to tell me he got something cool I needed to go and check out...He found a UPA4 with adjustable feed rate (there are 12 pins which add 0.02mm/rev for each one you engage) into a lot of tools and this thing screams perfection. The actuation of the ball detent pins is godlike even after so many years of shop soiling, and if you spin a wohlhaupter boring head leadscrew by hand you know it can't be described by words (getting goosebumps just thinking of it)...
Excellent video, helped me a lot to disassemble boring head. I found 1 tip, if you grab the return knob (rücklaufknop) with parallel acting pliers and rotate 90° you don't have to 'hammer' it out but can pull it out.

Hallo, ....warum die wohl bei Wohlhaupter ab Werk Fett auf den Schneckentrieb aufgeben ........ wahrscheinlich weil das dünnflüssige Öl wegen der Zentrifugalkraft davongeht....... möglicherweise? ; -) Stahlwellen/Achsen/Stifte treibt man besser mit einem Treibdorn, vorzugsweise aus Messing/Alu oder mit einem Schonhammer ein. Sonst .... sehr Gute Vids, bitte weiter so ! Beste Grüße
Hallo. Schönes Video. Könnten sie vielleicht auch eines vom Abstechen auf der Drehmaschine machen? Vorschub, Geschwindigkeit, Höhe des Messels.. ich finde dazu nichts lehrreiches im Internet, vielleicht lerne ich bei ihnen ja mehr.
@@santopezzotti730 Is it a MT-2 presently? Why not make adapter from current taper to 3/4 straight shank? That would preserve the original stiffness & authenticity. Is there a drawbar thread in the taper, this would make retention easier in the adapter. I just got a UPA2 w/ Moore jig bore shank, but there is supposed to be MT2 under that, and I cannot yet tell if the MT2 has a drawbar thread. Also, seems like if you make an adapter, if the taper axis is not perfectly parallel to the new straight shank, you can at least rotate the adapter so that the travel of the boring head is (closest to) perpendicular to the straight shank. Very helpful video, even though I understand hardly any German.. looking forward to taking mine apart once I get the shank adapter apart. Was there a recommendation for oil (or grease) that someone could translate to English? I was guessing way lube might work well.. Thx.
Update: carefully made a u- shaped wedge to fit on the bottom lip of the MT2 taper, plus a second wedge to push on the Moore taper adapter & carefully pushed them together in a small vise, which pushed the Moore adapter sleeve off. However, there is a very coarse retention spiral at the top of the Moore taper, and ,surprise, this actually was integral with the MT2 taper. So, this was apparently from the factory, and the sleeve for the steep taper was removable only to allow disassembling the boring head. I will probably cut off the retention spiral, & drill & tap the end of the MT2 for a retention screw. I can also thread the original retention spiral, so it could be put back on with the Moore sleeve, in case someone wants to use this on a Moore jig bore..
