    Correction: The type chart is different in Pokemon Go as immunities don't exist. They are replaced by resistances

    • @doopness785
      @doopness785 2 месяца назад +11

      Something you forgot to mention is that different stats are weighted differently in the Combat Power formula. Specifically Attack adds more to your total CP than HP or Defense. Because of this bulkier Pokémon tend to have more overall stat points than an attack focused mon.
      For example a 1500cp Rampardos will always be lower level and have less overall Stats than a 1500cp Bastiodon.

      @@jimothycool yup immunities are replaced by a double resistance. So certain dual type Pokemon can have a triple resistance, it's pretty interesting. Another reason why charjabug is so strong is because x scissor and discharge are really cheap in terms of energy needed while volt switch is one of the most efficient energy generators, allowing you to spam charged moves and outpace other pokemon to them. You can also look into baiting, catching, alignment & ABB, counting moves, and IV selection if you want to research more about go pvp tech. Enjoyed the video and glad to see more exposure for go battle league

    A detail about Pokémon GO's Combat Power that was missed is that it is calculated based entirely on the Pokémon's current stat total. What this means is that Pokémon with meager base stats can actually attain a similar power level in Great League to those with much higher base stats, if they can be levelled up enough. It's entirely why Charjabug is even relevant to begin with. The stats featured in the video for Vikavolt are its stats at level 17.5 (Yes, Pokémon Go has half levels, don't ask how that works) and Charjabug's stats are those at *level 38*.
    Pokémon GO also (for some reason) assigns more combat power to the attack stat than other stats. All this means the league favours pokemon with defensive stats, and it also means that type combinations / Pokémon moves are much more relevant to what determines a pokemon's viability than their base stats.

      This. This is one of the key aspects why Charjabug is being used.
      Pokemon GO, being a mobile game trying to appeal to a more casual audience, made up this Combat Power stat as a (over)simplification of the Pokemon's strength. Problem is that the formula was made back when the game was exclusively PvE, with no PvP modes. So it gives more weight to Attack, because the PvE content is time limited and dealing damage faster is everything.
      Problem is that when they made up the PvP mode, they decided to filter the tiers based on Combat Power. So in this league that only goes up to 1500 Combat Power, the higher defense/hp and lower attack your Pokemon has, the more total stats you can fit under the 1500CP limit. The Vikavolt in the video has 30 more Attack than the Charjabug, but 38 less defense and 15 less stamina/hp.
      So because of this nonsensical system, Charjabug is the 5th bulkiest Electric type in the League, which is a very useful type. Its Bug type helps with the Ground and Fighting damage that's common in the League. It's a solid baseline.
      There's another key aspect that's tied to this insane stat system. We're talking about something so insanely made that it results in Pokemon like Jumpluff and Tropius being the BULKIEST Grass types in the league. Both have WAY higher bulk and total stats than something you'd think is a bulky Grass type like Tangrowth. This is common with all types. For example, Medicham is the bulkiest Fighting type by far.
      To compensate for this insane disparity in stats, they give each Pokemon very limited movesets (around 5 to 10 moves) that are wildly unbalanced as a counterbalance.
      For example, Chansey is far and away the Pokemon with the highest stat total in the League, but it's bad because they gave it a really bad moveset to compensate. This approach could work if they were good at balancing, but what ends up happening is that it becomes very random who gets good and bad moves. Charjabug got good ones.
      TL;DR: Because of weird systems, Charjabug has good stats and a good moveset in Pokemon GO

Also Great Cup used to be epic until shadow charm spam and gligar became meta xd.

    Pokemon Go actually diverges significantly in how the type chart works. A small change is the change is super effective and resist multipliers work but the main one is that there are no immunities, only resists
    You can earthquake every flying type, thunderbolt every ground type and outrage every fairy type etc.

    • @aerochrome_glow
      @aerochrome_glow 2 месяца назад +33

      Also you absolutely could use powerful legendaries like Groudon or something they would just have to be at such a low level they become unviable
      Like if you could use mega Rayquaza in UU but it could only be at level 15 it would simply be inferior to something that could be at level 50

    • @kenshiro8984
      @kenshiro8984 2 месяца назад +28

      Exactly. The super effective multiplier is 1.6x, while the not very effective multiplier is 0.625x (1/1.6).
      Immunities are calculated as double resists, so a Mandibuzz would take approximately 0.39x damage from an Earthquake or a Psychic.
      Secondary typing can come into play after immunity does, for instance: Swampert has a single resist to Electric (0.39 * 1.6), while Bastiodon has a *triple* resist to Poison (0.39 * 0.625).

    Ooooo Pokemon go pvp talk, I can weigh in on this.
    So about Under charging (not hitting all the bubbles on a charge move) The goal with this strat is deal damage with your charge move WHILE also keeping the opposing pokemon alive to farm them down with your Fast move. This allows you to have more energy when your opponent brings in their next pokemon, compared to when you just straight up KO something with a charge move.
    At high level you also sometimes see players stop tapping all together to take MORE damage so the next pokemon brought in gets less farm from Fast moves.
    Another cool mechanic about Pokemon Go PVP is Charge Move Priority ties or CMP ties. CMP ties occur when BOTH players hit their charge moves at the same time. The winner of the tie is determined by which pokemon has the higher attack stat. Sometimes you see players invest into a pokemons attack stat with their IVS (because also keep in mind pokemon go has no EVS only IVS) to win a CMP tie in the mirror match. But that also comes with the trade off of cutting into their bulk, since Attack stats are weighed more than Defense and HP (if you have a higher attack stat in pokemon go, you're waaaay less bulky)
    I could go on and on about pokemon go PVP, like how it's preferred to have a low Attack IV for Great League and Ultra league, but I'll stop. It's such a cool format that is VERY different from the Main series. Charjabug isn't even the only pre evolution BETTER than it's evolution. Gligar, Vigoroth, Lickitung, Golbat, Ursaring, and Dragonair come to my mind right away but there could be more.

  • @tobiasgund8048
    @tobiasgund8048 2 месяца назад +20

    The most important information to mention is, that CP increase more rapidly with attack than defense or HP, so with a CP limit, more offense based Pokémon are at a lower level and even more frail than usual, so bulky Pokemon can have a much higher stat total than offensive ones, which is why much more defensive Pokémon like Charjabug, Lickitung, Altaria, Azumarill, Registeel, Cresselia, Skarmory and similar Pokémon get used. It's also not surprising to see Pokémon with usually lowish BSTs, since they just have a higher level and then reach similar stats to a Pokemon with high BST on a lower level.

  • @placeholder7311
    @placeholder7311 2 месяца назад +19

    1:37 I don't know if this has been mentioned by someone else in the comments yet but the type chart isn't one to one because immunities don't exist in Pokemon Go. Hello, competitive GO player here from Argentina (aka, the country of this years 3rd place)
    I will just ignore all the sarcasm in the comment section as we deserve some respect as well and clarify some other "weird" and messed up stuff that made the format kinda unique:
    -As many have noticed: some NFE Forms are better and in most cases directly outclassed their fellow evolved forms not only by bulk but for moveset (For example: Lickitung has Power Whip to hit waters/grounds that could threat its teammates, Lickilicky doesn´t)
    -NFEs are not the only mons that can be good in GO unlike in VG: The clearest example i can think of rn is WHISCASH being a menace in GO since it got Scald but being laughably bad in VG
    -"Do i have to bring a perfect iv to compete?" NO. In almost all scenarios thats a TERRIBLE IDEA: How IVs work on GO is weird, the CP is defined by ATK, DEF and HP but the thing is the ATK stat affects more on the CP. What most competitive players will tell you is that you want a pokemon with LOW ATTACK & HIGH DEF/HP IVs. So why is that? Well, bcuz you can give it more levels until it reaches its 1500 CP limit. So instead of having a lvl 33 Charjabug you can have a lvl 38 charjabug with a similar attack stat but WAY BETTER bulk. And in a real time battle you WANT to have a chance to be in clutch and survive at 1HP to throw a last minute charged move or to farm down your opponent
    -"Why do you fail the minigame?" There´s occassions where you can (and should) afford to not immediately KO your opponent active pokemon with a charge move bcuz you want to KO it with fast moves, farm down all the energy you can AND throw a needed charge move to the Pokemon in the back that will get in. A charged move that in other cirscuntances you wouldn´t have reached but that you needed to get either cheap or big damage on it to win

    Something people don't consider is how much harder it is to build a team for pokemon go than other teams. You want low attack but high defence high hp IVS, and the only way to get ivs like that is through pure luck. It's way easier to get a pokemon with perfect IVS than with PVP IVS. On top of that, certain pokemon aren't always available, and sometimes their moves aren't available outside of Elite Tm. It could take like six months or longer to build the team you want, and there's no shortcut. Especially if you want a legendary like registeel or cressellia, who are only obtainable via raids, and THEN need to be traded to try get pvp ivs (as the floor for raids is 10/10/10).

    • @VideoGamer110
      @VideoGamer110 2 месяца назад

      On top of that, IVs are randomised AGAIN upon trading, so you can't have someone gift you a trained Pokemon already. And, you can only trade a specific Pokemon once, so you can't even keep trading back and forth to reroll IVs

    Lmao 4:40 i can explain, the bubbles are actually insane. You can literally choose how much damage you can do with your charge attack, based on how many bubbles you pop. You may be wondering why youd want to do less damage. Its so you can farm the enemy down with your fast attack so you have more energy going into the persons next pokemon. Say you know your opponent has a lantern in the back that can kill you with one charge attack, and that lantern can also kill you in one charge attack. You also know that if you ko tijs Pokemon that you are attacking right now lantern can reach its charge attack before you and you will lose. So instead you use you charge attack to get the current opponent to die a couple fast moves (instead of dying to a charge move), now you have leftover energy and you can reach your charge attack before the lantern when it comes in.
    Lmk if that made sense

Because if both players pull off their special at the sametime it will go to the player with the higher attack and if both are 100 stats then it will be based off the individual hidden speed mechanic. Type chart is NOT 100% accurate, as immunities don’t exist in Go. Instead, immunities are treated as double resistances, as a consequence Sableye only singly resists fighting types. This is to prevent locking the game completely if two pokemon only have moves which the other is immune to

  • @al77709
    @al77709 2 месяца назад +1

    The reason Charjabug is preferred over Vikavolt is not higher defenses per se, but higher defenses compared to its attack.
    In effect, Pokemon GO's combat power calculations use a point buy system. Each point of defense gives you one unit of Combat Power, each point of HP also gives you one unit, but each point in attack gives you two units. Since Great League forces you to remain under 1500 CP, Pokemon with high attack stats compared to their defenses are greatly penalized. They can't "buy" as many stats as more defensive Pokemon, making them worse overall.
    Since legendary Pokemon nearly always have good offenses, they're useless in Great League, as they can only get in at a very low level that leaves them basically defenseless. The hyper-bulky Cresselia and Registeel are the main exceptions. This is also the reason that the "ideal" PvP Pokemon has very low IVs in attack and high IVs in defense/HP - you're trying to cram as many points as you can within the 1500 CP cap, and the double cost of attack makes it undesirable. As a consequence, other bulksters with no offenses (e.g. Umbreon, Carbink, Stunfisk, Azumarill, Greedent and Bastiodon) are also very prominent in this format.
    The "under-charging" of a charged attack is easy to understand: since your regular attacks charge your energy, you can leave your opponent with a sliver of HP, whittle it down with your fast attack to charge up energy, and fire it at the next 'mon to come your way. Of course, if you miscalculate and give your opponent too much time, they will have enough energy to shoot their charged attacks at you too, hence the skill involved.
    (The miniscule, miniscule amount of skill involved. Pokemon GO's PvP is a dust mite compared to ADV OU, the best and only official format of Pokemon).

    The type chart in Pokemon Go is not the same as the core series game. There are no immunities, they are replaced for double resistances. That means:
    - Ghost type is double resistant to Normal and Fighting moves.
    - Normal type is double resistant to Ghost moves.
    - Flying type is double resistant to Ground moves.
    - Ground type is double resistant to Electric moves.
    - Dark type is double resistant to Psychic moves.
    - Steel type is double resistant to Poison moves.
    - Fairy type is double resistant to Dragon moves.
    Now these result in some really intersting changes, some of them are:
    Zapdos (Electric/ Flying)
    Core series: Unaffected by Ground type moves (Flying is immune to Ground)
    Pokemon Go: Takes resisted damage from Ground type moves (+1 for Electric & -2 for Flying giving a net -1 effectiveness)
    Garchomp (Dragon/ Ground)
    Core series: Unaffected by Electric type moves (Ground is immune to Electric)
    Pokemon Go: Takes triple resisted damage from Electric type moves (-1 for Dragon & -2 for Ground giving a net -3 effectiveness)
    Sableye (Dark/ Ghost)
    Core series: Unaffected by Fighting, Normal and Psychic type moves (Dark is immune to Psychic, Ghost is immune to Fighting and Normal)
    Pokemon Go: Takes resisted damage from Fighting type moves (+1 for Dark & -2 for Ghost giving a net -1 effectiveness)
    Pokemon Go: Takes double resisted damage from Normal type moves (+0 for Dark & -2 for Ghost giving a net -2 effectiveness)
    Pokemon Go: Takes double resisted damage from Psychic type moves (-2 for Dark & +0 for Ghost giving a net -2 effectiveness)

    As a go battle league player, this is a very good analysis on the game. you got almost everything right, but there are a few innacuracies:
    1. The great league doesn't determine which pokemon can be played; only the stats. CP, or combat power, is a rough calculation of stat product. However, this system isn't completely accurate as it counts the attack stat as two points, while defense and stamina are only given one. Since there is a limit on CP, attack weighted pokemon(such as gengar, or in this case, vikavolt) have lower stat products and are therefore weaker in neutral scenarios.
    2. tapping the screen faster doesn't make you do any more damage, people just do it as habit or to ensure that they don't miss any moves.

  • @NightFreeze9128
    @NightFreeze9128 2 месяца назад

    As a PoGO competitor myself, one trick I have to determine whether any given pokemon has good stats for Great League play is to look at the *proportions* between their Main Series base stats rather than the raw base stats themselves. Charjabug's base defenses are, on average, much higher than its base offenses, and while its HP is lower than both it's not far behind. If you compare that to a pokemon like Metagross, which is considered very bulky in the main series and is better than Charjabug in every base stat, you'll notice that Metagross's attacking stats are slightly higher on average than its defenses, and its HP is significantly behind both averages. Even though Metagross actually can be used in Great League, due to these proportions between its stats, it ends up having significantly lower Defense and HP than Charjabug in that format. Really comprehensive video though! Pretty much everything you covered here is stuff I couldn't have put in better words. Subscribed!

    I personally use Galvantula instead! It has the coveted Lunge charge attack, which lowers the opposing Pokémon's Attack stat by 1. This leads to an effective increase in bulk, which allows Galvantula to fire off more Charged Attacks. The opponent is forced to either stay in and get whittled, or swap in a counter (which will be trapped in by the switch timer) which will be debuffed and cleaned up by my second 'mob

    A better explanation of the charjabug over vikavolt thing is that attack stats are weighted most heavily when determining CP. this means that it will take a higher level for a charjabug to hit the CP cap than a vikavolt. Essentially it’s a choice between a lvl 100 charjabug or a lvl 50 vikavolt. That’s also partly why bug-electric is so good defensively. Most fire types are aggressively stated so they are too frail for great league

    I myself adore Charjabug (in general, I think it's cute) and I feel it's got some potential for Doubles/VGC given a support moveset (it can set Sticky Web, inflict paralysis, it can lower speed or special attack with String Shot or Eerie Impulse, and of course it may Protect), but more importantly is the ability Battery which gives ally pokemon a 30% boost to special attacks. If they are a special attacker, it's like putting on an additional life orb that doesn't hurt you, and you can still use a different item as well. Being weak to Fire and Rock does hurt, I agree; Incineroar and Rock Slide are everywhere, but having that mentioned ground neutrality definitely helps against all of the earthquakes used. But yeah, I think it's pretty neat, and as mentioned I think there's potential.

    Another important note is how attack contributes more points towards combat points than defense does. This is why pokemon like deoxys attack and rampardos are so laughably bad; they have too much attack so they get very little stat points in their total CP. Meanwhile bulky mons like cress and charjabug get more stat points as their low attack stat means they get more total points

    In Pokemon GO, bulk and the speed at which you get to moves is king. This is because of the game's CP system. In Pokemon GO's system, the Combat Power is derived harder from attack than it is from defence or HP. So if a bulky Pokemon can KO the opponent in two moves, it's far better than a heavier hitter who can't quite one-hit the opponent.
    The higher bulk also provides better stat product. Rather than looking at the BST, you have to look at the stat product which gains more value from the defensive stats. Fun fact, Pokemon such as Deoxys Defence, Whiscash, Pidgeot, Vigoroth, Lanturn, Sableye, Gligar and even Abomasnow are all meta in GO's system.
    Charjabug is relevant because it actually has a really good stat product and typing at this 1,500CP range. It has far better bulk than Vikavolt because it's level is so much higher at this arbitrary 1500 CP number.

    What really screws things like Vikavolt over in Great League metagame is how Combat Power is calculated.
    Roughly, it's Attack*Defense^0.5*HP^0.5. Because Vikavolt has pretty high Attack, it reaches the Combat Power cap with a much lower stat total than Charjabug. It's the reason why most good Pokemon have insane bulk but lower offenses (Registeel, Cresselia, Azumarill, Bastiodon, Mandibuzz...).
    Is it ever worth evolving a Charjabug? Well, yes. Raids are a popular game mode in GO and while Bug type is extremely niche as a raiding type, Vikavolt can do a lot of work against bosses such as Hoopa-Unbound. Niche, but useful.

As you can see the world championships format are drafting Pokémon below 1500 cp. since atk gives twice as more cp than defense, a high atk Pokémon actually have less stats than a more defensive ones under the 1500cp rule. Therefore people usually look for the ones with lower atk ivs too

    Actually the type chart isn’t exactly 1:1. Immunities in the main series are treated as double-resistances in Go, so Dark types still do take minimal damage from Psychic type moves, for example.
    Bulk is often valued more highly in Go, as you’re more likely to do greater amounts of damage over time. Charjabug at 1500CP has more bulk than its evolved form, so it’s better.
    Go actually has a ton of uniqueness to it and Charjabug is just one example of a Pokemon that would never see play on a competitive team in any of the main series games, but works great here. Thanks for making more people aware of it!
