You're going to have a lot of subs coming your way brother. Stay patient and keep up the hard work on the channel. As a longtime hockey player who's a complete nerd for responsibilities and technical advice of the game you're going to be popping up on a lot of recommended home pages as you did mine today and it's only going go up from here. 💯
I found your channel by pure accident and wow I am impressed! You know a ton about goalies and hockey. A goalie has to be the most nerve wracking position in pro sports, but it's all part of the sometimes heroism sometimes blundering of hockey. Happy Holidays and you're gonna get a lot of subscriptions keep up the good work!
@@benmitchner2172 thank you man! I appreciate you saying that and taking the time to comment! If you liked this video check out the one I put out yesterday on stolarz. Welcome to the team and thank you for subscribing!!!
@@Jbeen3596 I'll check it out it's on my sidebar and I'll watch anything you put up. Hockey is the driving force behind what I do with music and brought me back to it. Hockey I.Q and music theory go together! Glad I found you as well thanks!
I am so happy you talked about this game! Especially the breakdown of that behind the net play. I was watching this game, and when that goal when in I literally said out loud, "I hope Jimmy does a breakdown of that." Behind the net stuff is probably the trickiest thing for young and/or beginner goaltenders, it's just not as intuitive as when the puck is in front of you. Perfect thing to talk about on your channel. Merzlikins' failure to TEND THE GOAL cost Columbus the game. At that point in the game it was 2-1 Columbus with one minute to go in the second period, and the shots were 26-7 for CBJ. The Canucks were playing absolutely abysmally. Suddenly it's a tie game after 2, the Canucks came out in the third like an entirely different team and dominated for the final 20. The timing of mistakes is often more important than the mistake itself. Understanding the game situation, when to take risks and when to play conservative is so important... Not that there was ever a time that that play by Elvis would have made any sense whatsoever. Even the announcers said the only explanation they had was that Elvis was bored, having done so little to that point in the game, and so he decided to involve himself in the worst possible way. As a Canucks fan, I really appreciate Elvis handing us the game. But even still, when that happened I screamed at the TV, "TEND THE GOAL!" And then I laughed in disbelief and said, "When the Canucks win the game, it is 100% because of that play by Merzlikins."
😂 I’m glad I came through with the breakdown. That is the wildest descision to play a puck I’ve seen in a while, all risk for little reward. Thank you for watching and commenting!! Im glad I got a chance to explain behind the net positioning too, so important to stay ahead of the play.
@Jbeen3596 You bet, bud, I'm happy to help drive that engagement! A wild decision to play that puck indeed. I like to get out and play the puck myself, but you know who is objectively better at handling the puck than a goalie? Literally anyone who doesn't have a blocker and catcher on theirs hands. If your teammate is going to get to that puck before the opponent, TEND THE GOAL! If I was the coach of CBJ, I'm not sure Elvis would have been in the net to start the third. Sometimes goalies mishandle the puck and it ends up in the net, shit happens, but the decision to race out to that puck was unforgivable.
TY! and Thanks for commenting! There is not a lot of good non-copyright music to choose from. I wish I could use copyrighted songs; this is why i had to sing "welcome to my life" myself in my video before this one
Goal #2: Lanks isn't expecting Dejarnais to blow his coverage so bad and let the pass go right through him- sadly, based on what we have seen recently. he should be.
It was certainly a tough play for him. Not the worst goal ever. However this winds back around to never anticipating but reading, reacting, and playing properly. Lenkanin has been close to perfect for weeks and by no means is he a bad goalie, but whiping your head around on a behind the net play before traveling towards your other post is atypical, and it's for this exact reason. if you travel your body to the far side but keep your eyes on the puck longer you can easily bump back the other way; if you take your eyes off the puck first you miss the chance to read the play the man behind the net wants to make at a critical moment. Very hard play here and the foward did an excellent job going as deep as he could before throwing it back the other way. I am using the clip as an example of why we are coached to move our body towards that far side post before transitioning our eyes. you can always hope for better defense but what I tell the goalies I coach is on 98% of goals you can go back and find somthing you could have done better, maybe the result wouldn't change, but you can improve your game being a stickler about everything you do.
@@kurtneufeld969 I agree Lankinen had a good game otherwise and the goal from behind the net was a hard play to track at top speed. But the first clip I don’t like that he didn’t give himself a good chance to ensure a proper angle when he had plenty of time. I was always very hard on myself when playing competitively and this is how I’d breakdown my own footage. If I gave up a goal like that I’d say my game was not good as it’s a goal I really don’t like to give up. Lankinen has been great recently, I have another video on him playing an excellent game from about a week ago. He’s been great for his team so far.
They’ve got games in hand on the whole division except Anaheim. Demmer is back soon and Miller’s signed up for the Four and if nothing else happens they could be gelling by Feb. The Stars are still clicking and everyone besides points isn’t a shoe in yet. Canucks don’t have first round first picks ever I think Allvin has made some pretty good choices. It’s one game at a time !

First goal I did the EXACT same thing in my game on sunday. Almost beat for beat how that happened...
But I'm a beer league goalie lol....
yo then you make the NHL
This would be difficult as i do not possess the talent or athletic ability. Thank you for the comment tho!
