This cut off technique is typically used when you are not fast enough to change your angle and travel flat across your crease with a player making a hard power move to your far side from a sharp short side position. It has to be done perfectly or it results in a goal against. Learn to use it only in the situations in which it is necessary, and be explosive when you decide to use it.

For those that know the rules better than I, at 00:27 would that be considered a hook by 94 in white or is that fair game? That directly prevented NY from able to clear the puck.
The stick on stick contact that prevents the clear is legal. almost all stick fighting is legal as long as the stick doesnt break. hooking refers to hooking a players body with your stick.

Ay! Thanks for covering the PWHL!! That game was wild! It was Osborne's first career start for the team, so to stop 34 of 37 shots is damn impressive. Maschmeyer on the other team is an incredibly strong goaltender in her own right though she played a little sloppy this game. I remember when Ottawa faced Montreal earlier this season and the game went to shootouts. Masch stopped something absurd like 46 shots on net.
It was a fun game to watch! I’ll try to keep an eye on the PWHL as well. And yeah 34/37 with Some really nice saves she almost got the W for her team. I heard the announcers speaking about Maschmeyer being excellent as well. I’ll have to keep an eye on her games too

@Jbeen3596 tough break, but it's why we have systems for how to play pucks behind the net. Got to be prepared for bad breaks like that. When you do things by the book, you make more saves. Great work as always, Jimmy.
Hey man! Would love some stuff on Jake Oettinger if you could analyze one of his games soon and what you think of him overall. I've only ever heard just a couple people talk about his skills in a breakdown and they've only been on a certain play or two and that's it. Nobodies ever really given a full analysis on him, how he plays, and what his normal strengths and weaknesses are in his game. Would love to see it. Thanks!
He’s an awesome goalie to look at! I try to pick goalies by what will be the most educational or interesting out of the games played recently. I’ll keep my eye on the stars and if he has a good game to breakdown I’ll Definitly do it! One of my favorites as well!

anyway the goal against Dobes should not be good in my opinion, I know rules are rules but they are ridiculous, the Avalanche players knew exactly what he was doing and his skates for a fraction of a second were part of the plan. Some will say it is not a push movement with the skate but in fact both skates were pushing it the perfect angle at the perfect timing.

That’s awesome! I remember seeing Braden Holtby play for the Hershey Bears the year before he entered the NHL. He was making AHL shooters look like little kids

Really enjoyed this video! Great stuff. What stands out to me (as someone who doesnt know the ins and outs of goaltending technique as much as you) is his interesting combination of calmness when the other teams are creating chances (great rebound control, never sprawling, covering up any time he feels it's right), and intensity. For example when he robs a breakaway then immediately fired a pass to the opposite blueline By all accounts hes a very competitive guy too. I'm very excited to see how he, Monty, and eventually Fowler fare in the coming years Great video again man.
I see the same thing. He’s calm but explodes with speed when he knows it’s the right thing to do and he’s been right on almost every play. I think it shows a great ability to read the play at a high level.
I'm no expert, but when I'm looking at young goalies and who I expect to succeed, calmness in net and efficiency of motion are the two biggest things I look for.
He's only played two games we'll see in the long run but he shows good positioning and anticipation! Reminds me of goalies who were good right from the start like Ken Dryden and Patrick Roy!
Excellent point! Can he consistently play with that sharpened mental focus and ability to read the play when put under the pressure and difficulty of a full game schedule? A question that will only be answered in time. I hope Montreal does not hurt his development by asking him to play a serious schedule this season. I think he’s a young and talented asset that should be developed with care.
He gives me young carey price feelings, the way he moves. Been a while since i've seen anyone give me that feeling.
That same sharp and simple footwork that Carey made made famous certainly shines through in this goalie. It’s good to see the fundamentals used so solidly at such a young age for him. Will be interesting to see how he develops from here

Doby is a beast already, I'm excited to see how he adds to the team, love to see him playing the puck nice and quick too, really works with the way some if the boys like to stretch up the ice.

@@Uniquegoalhorns I did watch the game he started for them and he looked great. There must’ve been a better game to review around that time. I try to pick games with teachable moments or really excellent goaltending to highlight. If he plays again I’ll Definitely be watching.

Happy New Year, Jimmy! Fun goalie duel video, I love the concept. I really don't like those Dallas jerseys, but I think Desmith's set up make them look a bit better. I was wondering if you've seen the brutal goal Demko allowed last night (Jan 2nd) before later leaving the game injured 😭Demko just can't stay healthy. coach is saying it was back spasms, maybe that's all it is, but Canucks nation are having a total meltdown right now. Anyway, existential crisis aside, the goal he allowed was terrible, wondering if you have any insight about what went wrong.

And I agree the Dallas jerseys are not awesome but I love it on a goalie with that kind of a set up. He looks like some evil glowing boss from a video game. I hope it was just back spasm. That injury demko has in the first place is brutal to rehab and continue playing with so hopefully it has nothing to do with that knee

That demko goal was soft for sure I just watched it. Maybe just a little lack of focus or disrespect there but his positioning looks fine. He made a bunch of insane saves after and looked great. The highlights don’t show him getting injured but I’m trying to find it on RUclips
@@Jbeen3596there wasn't really a clear incident that led Demko to leave the game. He left after the Canucks had scored. There was something in the first period that some people have suggested might have instigated the injury, Demko gets tripped by his defensemen and fall pretty hard. But, that was long before the left the game. He left in the second period, and the fall happened in the first.

The second I think he could have gained more depth as well but he shouldn’t have to anticipate his own men not clearing the lane and jumping in to a perfect double screen so I think he wasn’t expecting that Anyway. He would Have had to be way out to catch that puck with his shoulder. I’m more aggressive as well but that has more to do with me being 5’9” than my style.

Monty had to start for like 5 games straight since MSL doesn't trust Primeau anymore, and as a result Monty stopped performing at his 100% since he was already getting tired
