With each boss you can tell how many tries it took to beat them without taking damage by the amount of sheer uncontrolled slashes of pure fucking anger dealt to them at the end in Blade Mode
Funnily enough, the only one who gave me genuine trouble was Mistral and by extension her Body Double. The Body Doubles are where I had to call a few days just to let myself open up to new ideas. That's where I came up with the idea of Parry Countering Mistral as soon as possible, since I could get through her, but that meant I could essentially bypass her fight and get a chance to practice on Monsoon, which let me re-learn how to do deal with the smokescreen in that room.

I can't tell you how annoying mistral was that once I beat on my first playthru abused the fuck out of her using the pole arm combo'd her into absolute oblivion. Monsoon was a little bit difficult for me till I realized to stop being a noob

The entire Counter Attack mechanic gets a huge buff on Revengeance when compared to playing on Normal - the reason I say the entire Counter Attack mechanic is because it also applies to things like the QTE's in Armstrongs fight, the button mashing just wipes out about 1/4 of his health bar on Revengeance. In Sam's DLC it's far more balanced but still pretty much required to beat Wolf fast enough to get the S-Rank.
@PaladinAtom9 Armstrong went much harder on Raiden on the latter part. Armstrong meant to recruit Sam,but in the final standoff,he gave up on changing Raiden's mind and intended to murder him. Let alone the nanomachines seem to absorb,store and propel energy,Sam's fight had a few vehicles drained,Raiden had to fight Armstrong when he had drained dry the goddamn EXCELSUS lmao Think the devs came out and said Sam would have killed Armstrong if he played the long game. Which makes sense,he would run out of juice and Sam would have chopped him to pieces. During Raiden's fight,Armstrong had healing phases,EXCELSUS is a big juicy boi but even so the long fight wore him down,thats why you see him getting scars towards the end and eventually getting cut and heartbroken also Sam is wearing a powersuit,it greatly enhances his physical capabilities but yeah thats flesh and bone on tech enhancement and mad skills

Y'know, on my first playthrough of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance I genuinely got so mad at the Sundowner fight that when I respawned at his second phase, I screamed: "LET 'ER RIP!", activated ripper mode, and shredded him as fast as I could in a literal blind rage.
It is good... but 41:00? Getting that same number having destroyed the two plasma cannons then doing a Z-A-K like Zorro? That was a complete accident, I was setting out to also do R-A-S, but then I saw that number and had to stop it there.
Imagine if instead of killing them, there was the option to remove their still conscious heads, put them on some device that keeps them conscious and alive, and bringing those heads back to Doktor, considering his robot hand fetish and all. Like then Raiden straps the head to his back and casually strolls back to base while the head is constantly screaming profanities at him. Cut to a cutscene where Doktor has set Sundowner's head to constantly watching an unending stream of peacetime news coverage on TV, all while Sundowner is just going nuts.
It's significantly easier to beat him this way, as you don't have to deal with the extra attacks and the back up cyborgs that come in once his shields are off.
@@gladoseon4117 yeah but even then it just takes a bit of practice. Phase 2 isn't hard either but using Defensive offense makes the fight go by faster.
I just love how music in this game gets stage 5 music cancer every time. Because you're doing it so much faster than intended. After watching this shit I'll go drive my bike listening to each one of these songs WITHOUT ANY CUTOUTS.
Tip:You can use second heavy attack(charge attack after 1 light attack) of pincer blades agaisnt moonson after his head fall off you can do like 30-40% damage
The weird new Watch Data tells us some interesting things. 1. As expected, people mainly only watch the beginning and end of the fights while skipping the meat of the battles, with the exception of Senetor Armstrong who has almost equal watch time throughout the entire fight. 2. The most replayed moment in the video is the climax of the Khamsin fight, which I'm only assuming is because Heat of the Desert is the best song in the game and it's a disgrace that's it's relegated to a DLC boss and not one of the main bosses.

@@specialtyspider8228 Not to worry, I do know about it (47:34 I think it's almost necessary to get the longest combo on Armstrong), but I didn't wanna use any Infinite Wigs for this run, just the standard HF Blade maxed out, 200% Health & Electrolytes and sub-weapons. I wanted to not rely on over the top, deep knowledge of the mechanics strategies for my MGS Boss vids in favour of gameplay any player who can ace normal difficulty but has doubts about their ability on the higher difficulties. It's the classic; "If I can do it, you CAN do it." only I hope my performance is a little less daunting for players who hope to pull this off one day.
After about a half hour of learning that the only way to attack without getting hit would be to let him attack first and counter depending on whether he performed an axe drop, axe swing/sandstorm, or the two-step combo - followed by about 4 and a half hours of practicing the restraint to not attack at all until he did. Also, telling myself to ignore how much damage I'd done to his health bar and focus purely on him helped. Remember; most of what you see on the internet, is nothing more than a carefully selected fraction of the experience.
@@ZakRas thanks for the tip, I went into khamsin thinking he would be just as easy as every other boss, boy was I wrong. I did find a way to perfect parry him, but he also shoots you on the way, making it pretty much impossible to no damage him with perfect parry I think
It depends on a number of factors. - Mistral has the camera working against you the most, you want to keep track of her and the Dwarf Gekko. - The Body Doubles are mentally exhausting if you don't kill Mistral fast with a Perfect Parry like I did here. - Sundowner had an unexpectedly high Combo requirement along with Time which took some figuring out. It's why I don't cut his shields off - the actual fight itself is no trouble. - Sam vs Armstrong relies entirely on a taunted Armstrong not doing his unblockable clothesliner chain attack- which he does quite almost all the time on Revengeance, unless you get lucky and he does the black boot which has a huge cooldown. - Khamsin requires absolute patience. You cannot go on the offensive since Wolf has no effective dodge cancel - you can only attack by counter-acting what attacks Khamsin does first. Khamsin strategy; Axe drop - run around him & evade. Axe swings - jump then heavy attack. Two-Step Combo - jump then heavy attack and follow it up with aerial light attacks to stay in the air long enough to let him finish the two-step combo. Stay in front of and close to him so he doesn't do a charge, if you land behind him run away and wait for him to turn around because he has some unexpectedly wide behind him based attacks.

Mistral double is not so hard... But Monsoon double... In my first playthrough I hated Monsoon so much, and after appearance if his double I thought something like: "NO, NOT AGAIN!!! PLEASE!!! I HAD ENOUGH PAIN IN THE FIRST FIGHT AGAINST YOU!!!"

I had a much harder time with armstrong in hard mode in the dlc. I didnt have any upgrades on so it took me 20 full charge attacks because each one deals 5% damage
For Controller Type B; while in Blade Mode, click and hold Right Stick - this will lock the camera in place and stick movement now control Raiden's postioning.
Hey, do you think the game is worth 30 bucks together with the extra DLC skins and VR missions? Since I don't have a gaming PC I'm considering buying this game on my Xbox One in the future. Congrats on those fights by the way! I don't know the game's mechanics but I guess it took a lot of time and practice getting the fights down, especially with all those parries!
Yes - although I struggle to recommend it if you've not at least played MGS2 & watched 4, so many people are admitting their ignorance of certain plot elements with a kind of pride, then are shocked to realise this is the third game Raiden's appeared in and most of the things they speculate on has been known since 2001, then end up admitting they only bought it for the memes - trendchasing.

@@christheplayer99 The MGS HD Collection, which has MGS2, 3 & Peace Walker is currently de-listed from digital stores for license renewal, but there might be physical copies floating around. The reason I recommend watching MGS4, is because that game is so heavily tied to the PS3, you'll never play that unless you own one.
@@ZakRas I see. Sadly the HD collection starts from 40 all the way up to 140 euros even, and even at the lowest price I don't think It would be ideal to pay that much. Since I don't even own a Ps3 I guess my best option is watching the story here on RUclips. Thanks for your help by the way :)
The move I do there, Defensive Offense, was designed by the devs to have a generous number of invincibility frames so that it can be used an effective dodge move in such a fast paced action scenario - rather than the evasion being 100% reliant on physical positioning of both Raiden and all enemies surrounding him.
Not gonna lie Raiden is fricking strong and can cut anything but his damage doesn't do like a one instant hit. But still awesome when it comes to combat.
Normally, if you get it to 0% by any other means prior, Sam'l automatically launch himself into the air and do that animation - it's also the only time in a video game I've seen a character being able to perform a quadruple jump. Double jump to go at RAY's head, triple if he goes into a Blade Mode and then the quad when he does the finisher animation.
That attack would be no issue, if Sam wasn't able to do it when you've been engaged in close quarters combat, right next to him for a notable period of time, given it has no wind-up and instantly hurts you if you're near him.
I was wondering, considering you said you spent a lot of time on Armstrong's second phase to get it done with No Damage, isn't it possible to do a manual backup of your save so that you can start from there if you screw up? This would be useful for S rank runs of the entire game in general, as you wouldn't need to do the whole mission again if you screwed up the final boss or something and the game checkpointed you. I know you can't backup Xbox One saves because of the cloud feature, but maybe it still works for 360 saves. If that doesn't work, does it mean your only option was to replay the mission each time you didn't get the S/ No damage? If that's the case you deserve even more praise.
@@medicgaming101 Time. Sundowner's S-Rank has a ridiculously strict time limit combined with a stupidly high (60 I think) highest combo count - which is easier to do in Phase 1 where he has no ability to block.
On monsoon I had a glitch where it skipped the 40% mark and just continued with the new move set but without the lyrics and did everything I missed at 10%
On Revengeance difficulty, the damage from the first counter attack (parrying at the last moment possible) you perform on a Boss is through the roof compared to normal - that's also why in the Armstrong fight, the Block QTE is treated as a counter, that's why the body blows burn through 50% of his health, not to mention the damage the final hit from that QTE does.
I know - I personally never incorporated the Secondary Weapons into my playstyle. I admit there's no reason for me not to do even just a single use like in that scenario - I have no point to make following that.
Why the hell wont the ninja run let me dodge EXCELSUS' blades? It's so annoying, i see it all the time in videos like this yet when i use ninja run Raiden just runs straight into the blade like a knucklehead
Allow me to rub salt in the wound. In my Wooden Sword video, there's a brief moment he Ninja Run's through the blades... while running AWAY, rather than iNTO them. I have no idea if that's normal or a 1 in a million shot of the game being too hype to handle itself caught on video, but worth mentioning.
I always did ninjarun + strong to do the slide at just the right moment (this is before i learned how to dodge or parry) [Yes i made it that far into the game without learning how to dodge or parry]

You can cancel monsoon spinning run attack by using Polearm Heavy+Light+Heavy move, it makes you spin on ground and dodge or confuse monsoon
You can also do it by just spamming Heavy Attacks with it

Trying to do khamsin myself and ohh god what a nightmare, how on earth did you do it so cleanly?
After about a half hour of learning that the only way to attack without getting hit would be to let him attack first and counter depending on whether he performed an axe drop, axe swing/sandstorm, or the two-step combo - followed by about 4 and a half hours of practicing the restraint to not attack at all until he did. Also, telling myself to ignore how much damage I'd done to his health bar and focus purely on him helped.
Remember; most of what you see on the internet, is nothing more than a carefully selected fraction of the experience.
@@ZakRas thanks for the tip, I went into khamsin thinking he would be just as easy as every other boss, boy was I wrong. I did find a way to perfect parry him, but he also shoots you on the way, making it pretty much impossible to no damage him with perfect parry I think
I hate the fact that Sundowner's hp total is so low, because you can barely hear any of his theme, and it's one of the best
Sundowner's dumb, he calls himself invincible yet if he were to touch the blade of his own weapon, his hand would explode

Which one of these bosses were the hardest to S rank?
It depends on a number of factors.
- Mistral has the camera working against you the most, you want to keep track of her and the Dwarf Gekko.
- The Body Doubles are mentally exhausting if you don't kill Mistral fast with a Perfect Parry like I did here.
- Sundowner had an unexpectedly high Combo requirement along with Time which took some figuring out. It's why I don't cut his shields off - the actual fight itself is no trouble.
- Sam vs Armstrong relies entirely on a taunted Armstrong not doing his unblockable clothesliner chain attack- which he does quite almost all the time on Revengeance, unless you get lucky and he does the black boot which has a huge cooldown.
- Khamsin requires absolute patience. You cannot go on the offensive since Wolf has no effective dodge cancel - you can only attack by counter-acting what attacks Khamsin does first.
Khamsin strategy;
Axe drop - run around him & evade. Axe swings - jump then heavy attack. Two-Step Combo - jump then heavy attack and follow it up with aerial light attacks to stay in the air long enough to let him finish the two-step combo. Stay in front of and close to him so he doesn't do a charge, if you land behind him run away and wait for him to turn around because he has some unexpectedly wide behind him based attacks.

Mistral double is not so hard... But Monsoon double... In my first playthrough I hated Monsoon so much, and after appearance if his double I thought something like: "NO, NOT AGAIN!!! PLEASE!!! I HAD ENOUGH PAIN IN THE FIRST FIGHT AGAINST YOU!!!"

I had a much harder time with armstrong in hard mode in the dlc. I didnt have any upgrades on so it took me 20 full charge attacks because each one deals 5% damage
There are no upgrades for Sam's sword in the DLC - the only method he has of dishing out more damage than normal is if an enemy is taunted.

Hey, do you think the game is worth 30 bucks together with the extra DLC skins and VR missions? Since I don't have a gaming PC I'm considering buying this game on my Xbox One in the future. Congrats on those fights by the way! I don't know the game's mechanics but I guess it took a lot of time and practice getting the fights down, especially with all those parries!
Yes - although I struggle to recommend it if you've not at least played MGS2 & watched 4, so many people are admitting their ignorance of certain plot elements with a kind of pride, then are shocked to realise this is the third game Raiden's appeared in and most of the things they speculate on has been known since 2001, then end up admitting they only bought it for the memes - trendchasing.

The reason I recommend watching MGS4, is because that game is so heavily tied to the PS3, you'll never play that unless you own one.

The move I do there, Defensive Offense, was designed by the devs to have a generous number of invincibility frames so that it can be used an effective dodge move in such a fast paced action scenario - rather than the evasion being 100% reliant on physical positioning of both Raiden and all enemies surrounding him.

Normally, if you get it to 0% by any other means prior, Sam'l automatically launch himself into the air and do that animation - it's also the only time in a video game I've seen a character being able to perform a quadruple jump. Double jump to go at RAY's head, triple if he goes into a Blade Mode and then the quad when he does the finisher animation.

That attack would be no issue, if Sam wasn't able to do it when you've been engaged in close quarters combat, right next to him for a notable period of time, given it has no wind-up and instantly hurts you if you're near him.

I was wondering, considering you said you spent a lot of time on Armstrong's second phase to get it done with No Damage, isn't it possible to do a manual backup of your save so that you can start from there if you screw up? This would be useful for S rank runs of the entire game in general, as you wouldn't need to do the whole mission again if you screwed up the final boss or something and the game checkpointed you. I know you can't backup Xbox One saves because of the cloud feature, but maybe it still works for 360 saves. If that doesn't work, does it mean your only option was to replay the mission each time you didn't get the S/ No damage? If that's the case you deserve even more praise.
Probably, but given that mission is so short, I wasn't about to start messing around with backups.

Sundowner's S-Rank has a ridiculously strict time limit combined with a stupidly high (60 I think) highest combo count - which is easier to do in Phase 1 where he has no ability to block.
On monsoon I had a glitch where it skipped the 40% mark and just continued with the new move set but without the lyrics and did everything I missed at 10%

On Revengeance difficulty, the damage from the first counter attack (parrying at the last moment possible) you perform on a Boss is through the roof compared to normal - that's also why in the Armstrong fight, the Block QTE is treated as a counter, that's why the body blows burn through 50% of his health, not to mention the damage the final hit from that QTE does.

I know - I personally never incorporated the Secondary Weapons into my playstyle. I admit there's no reason for me not to do even just a single use like in that scenario - I have no point to make following that.
Why the hell wont the ninja run let me dodge EXCELSUS' blades? It's so annoying, i see it all the time in videos like this yet when i use ninja run Raiden just runs straight into the blade like a knucklehead
Allow me to rub salt in the wound. In my Wooden Sword video, there's a brief moment he Ninja Run's through the blades... while running AWAY, rather than iNTO them. I have no idea if that's normal or a 1 in a million shot of the game being too hype to handle itself caught on video, but worth mentioning.
I always did ninjarun + strong to do the slide at just the right moment (this is before i learned how to dodge or parry)
