I started with a cbr600f4 almost 20years ago, but now I only own an R3 which I use daily to commute to work. Of course it is slower than a 600 on straights, but more than enough to leave other cars from intersections. The fun factor is way higher on the R3 because it’s more nimble, better on gas, cheaper on insurance, not intimidating (almost impossible to get speed wobbles or accidental wheelies), looks just like a 600, etc. If you split lanes like me (California) then the R3 is the perfect weapon. I bought a used 2016 for a price way cheaper than most good mountain bikes and it’s very well worth it because it melts away the stress of work at the end of each workday.
I got my motorcycle permit today and this is gonna be my first bike I get to go get it in a week it is brand new no miles and is blue like the one in the video 😊 IM SO EXCITED!!!!
This shit was funny I'm about to get an r3 and I agree with all your reasons. I'm not looking to go 140+ for awhile. I just wanna ride and have fun. Good channel bro keep doing what you're doing!
Darrian Martin big facts!!! I got a 2016 Matte Grey and I’m enjoying it man. I’m quicker than almost everything on the road. It’s a blast to ride. I love it. Plus I work in the city it’s good on gas. I loving doing quick small burst of 100mph.
@@L3G3NDSOWAVY I don’t know if you still have it but I am looking at getting one, but how does or did it handle getting around semis on the interstate. I know those are pretty light so the wind can blow them around, and I had a coworker that had a 250cc bike and said it didn’t have enough power to get him going. However, he is twice the size of me so I am thinking that may be why.
@@MotoChrisOfficial nice! I love that concept. Now I really want this bike to be my first bike in about 2 years (first learning to drive a car and then planning on driving a car for a while and then beginning with my motorcycle license here in Holland)!
Hehe remember I said I was going to drive around with a car for 2 years? :P Well I hope to get started with my motorcycle license in a few months ;) Cannot resist waiting any longer haha
I know this an older video. But there is nothing wrong with the R3. As long as you can stay ahead of traffic on your commute to work, and YOU are having fun. That's all that matters. Plus, you got plenty of upgrades available to make your experience even better. Let other people laugh. You're having fun, and becoming an even better rider.
My R3 is just right in my opinion, in the highway it's not bad. Since it's a lighter bike the wind knocks it around some but I have learned to just get down grip the tank with your legs and it feels better, I do need to get a double bubble wind screen and put a louder exhaust.
@@MotoChrisOfficial I agree. I'd like to have and R6 or R1 one day, not because of their power but because of the sound and how powerful they look. But for my needs R3 is a perfect bike. When I want to ride a bit faster and enjoy myself, I can do that. When I want to go on the trip, I can do that as well without a problem. And even though I have to go to a gas station quite often because of its small fuel tank it barely sips fuel. I have done 3000km on mine, and my average fuel consumption is 3.1L/100km (google says it is 75-76 mpg) which is more than 3x lower than my car.
@@92Cuky_ It is truly a fantastic little bike. It handles very well in corners, weighs little and the fuel consumption is minimal. One it gets up to highway speeds, it gets a little shy, and it should because it's not made to cruise on highways. Take it to some twisty roads instead or just commute, the R3 is more than enough for it. The only mods I would recommend is a quicker throttle tube, slip on exhaust and some good tires.
@@IBANEZfil I had no problems on highways, though those were only short duration rides there to avoid traffic through cities. But I try to avoid highways as much as I can. I decided to get a motorcycle license and buy one because I wanted to explore, not ride in a straight line on highway. As for mods, I haven't put any on my bike other than a phone holder and tank pad. But I plan to buy higher visor and maybe slip on exhaust at some time. As for tires, I am actually quite happy with Dunlops it came with, though I have my eyes on Pirelli Diablo Rosso II, Pirelli Diablo Rosso III or Metzeler Sportec Street
It’s all about how you drive it brother. Got my 2015 r3 and I love it blow pretty much most cars away not bikes but eh that’s what the r6 is for but for commuting it’s perfect mix of speed and light In my opinion
thanks for this video to a clear up the misconception of most people's minds there are people out here trying to work with a motorcycle with just too much power for them. Regardless of the power you must respect the motorcycle. Do you, love your motorcycle and it will show love back.
Im so excited to hopefully purchase this bike instead of using my car to commute to college and work. I have about a twenty minute ride and I feel like having a bike would be way more convenient than a car due to parking availability at my school. I am going to be a new rider and am taking my msf course soon. Your videos have been an incredible resource in helping be decide to go with the R3 as everyone I have talked to tells me to get a used 600cc. As a new rider not only is that scary but I personally dont think I would get bored on a 300cc. Im not riding for the thrill of speed, but for practicality and have always loved motorcycles. I cant wait to get mine. Keep up the good work brother!
You're making a good chance! In love with the R3 and if you're going to school on it it's going to change your life! You can park ANYWHERE! No more parallel parking either. You'll have different problems now like weather and carrying all your stuff with you. I recommend getting a tail bag
@@MotoChrisOfficial i have a military style bookbag that fits everything in and has a sternum strap. I feel like the tail bag ruins the aesthetic of the bike. And i pulled the trigger! Copped a white 2019 r3 with abs cuz it was on sale for 3,990 in my area.
I have the equivalent of your bike - a 2019 YZF-R25 and I must say, holy cow! It's comfy, smooth, punchy, good-looking and is just about an all rounder. Sure, I've been looking at 600s and wanting one, but for the maintenence costs and livability, this 250 is just nice.
Great video... slow as compared to what? Plenty of power for the street and as you said... to have fun! I had a 17 Ninja 650 and all the Busa fan boys said that bike too slow...lol. Keep doing great vlogs.
Slow it down Moto Chris - no need to ride like that - it places too many people in danger. If it were only you maybe that would be different; and that's a big maybe. We would like to see you hang around a bit. We know the R3 is fast. You want to enjoy your R3 but you don't want to frighten the people on the interstate or inspire anyone to ride like a fool. At least I hope you're still with us.
The thing is - it's not slow, until you ride 600. Then 600 is not slow by any means, until... You know the drill. This is how it works. R3 is slow. And that's absolutely ok! :)
@@MotoChrisOfficial it is obviously. That's why it's great r3 is there for people who just want to commute or do the speed limit. But it's slow. And that's good.
I LOVE lower cc bikes man ! Commuting on a zx6r is 1st and 2nd gear Max threw town.. but these you can ring em out and rev them high and flick in and out of cars and it's just fun as hell man lol an absolute blast I'm telling you. Plus it's literally HALF the cost of a 600 supersport
I have a r3 and I love the thing, I put 5700 miles on it in about 3 months and for people who say it’s not fast and you can’t get in trouble use me as living proof, granted I only weigh 135 pounds but I got my stock r3 to what read 120 on the spedo down a slight hill and I’ve got it to 118 on flat ground, so it will move pretty good and you can indeed get in trouble, I got pulled over for doing a wheelie and I then got my license revoked for 6 months for 105 in a 60 on it, so be carful and have fun everybody the r3 is a great bike that is definitely capable
I live in Germany and even without a speed limit on some parts of the highway nobody really goes faster than 140 kmh (roughly 90mph) for a long time. A litre of Gas costs 1.60€ and if you ride at full throttle all the time you will lose a lot of money. So I honestly think a 300 is perfectly fine for the highway maybe even better than a SV650
Just stumbled upon this video... The streets looked suspiciously familiar until I realized you were on I-25 going north lol I live around there and take that road all the time. Great video bro, going to have to buy an R3 now after watching you tear it up!!
300cc class bikes are the BEST! I have a Ninja 300 and love that I can use all the power without having too much. I like that it's light and makes me feel more connected when I'm riding. R3 is a hot looking bike. If I upgrade my Ninja 300 in the future, this is the bike I will be looking at next.
Slow is relative... it looks like the R3 is in the 'car performance' range so it can get out of its own way no problem. On the street where there are legal issues with riding like Rossi there's a solid argument that a low power bike is a lot more fun to ride than the big guys. You get to row through the gears for one thing... I don't even have a 'top tier' power bike, but on my 160hp Multi I can get a speeding ticket on any highway in my state... in first gear. Handling wise the bike looks like it would be a ton of fun in the twisties... and you can go wot on the exit without risking life and license, that sounds like fun to me.
your videos are one of the few worth watching to see the R3 in action, becasue there are not much information about this bike, normally in my country, the people prefer to buy a 650 or 800 instead of a beginer bike due to the what the other people will think if you dont use a motogp bike.
I got a 2019 r25.well its not THAT fast but economical and really can zip itself among heavy traffic.0 to 100kph in 7+second and 140 kph in no time is plenty for me.what I really like is the SOUND.
I have a 2019 R3 I've done 94 to 104 mph easily on A wind factor of 39. I was laying down on my motorcycle because that wind would have taken my head off
Now I'm riding a 150 cc bike which is enjoyable and it can easily reach up to 125 kmph but It's my dream bike. Someday I'll buy this one. Love your videos and best wishes from India🇮🇳.
great video man! I just bought a 2019 R3 and it's so much fun to ride. I had a CBR 250 to start with then an Iron 883 then a Night Rod (1200cc) and I wanted something smaller and more relaxed. This bike has been a blast and I'm a pretty experienced rider.
I just bought my first bike, 2011 R1 from a Harley shop. 2 days after riding, it gave me major mechanical problems. Talked to my sales guy and he got the approval for me to trade it in for an R3. Could be a sign from the Most High that 1000cc may be too much for an inexperienced rider.
At 54 I’m slowing down a wee. I have had my hair on fire longer than necessary and survived all the stupidity that was and is still around. Wheelies are fun as fuck as much as haulin ass waaaay over 100 mph. I just don’t need to anymore. This is my next purchase. A few tweaks as in loose the entire exhaust, intake work and a power commander so I can ride around normally and enjoy myself and every so often just fuckin send it. The object of the game isn’t to die in some safe and sane manner. I want to slide in some day on fire smiling my arse off having been there and done that. But for now, a wee break for normality. I have an sv for track stupidity so this can remain as I crashed as possible.
I own a 2018 Yamaha R3 and it’s anything but slow, I’ve done top speed on it and I’ll say this holy molly it’s fast, I’ll do modifications to it to amped up the horsepower on it.
Hahahaha killed it at 10:12... No matter how long you ride you will still do this. I killed mine yesterday getting too excited seeing a window of opportunity. Unfortunately I had to wait for another one. Love the video
Great vid Chris! Finally an un-edited view/sound focused on the gearing/speed. Perfect camera angle too. Yamaha appears to have killed it with the gear ratio and two overdrive gears (4th/5th) for chill. Until we test ride, the questions are: 1) If the R3 is maintaining 90-95mph (152kmh) is the ride too buzzy with the engine appearing to be stressed? 2) If maintaining 35-45mph (56-72kmh) in 3rd or 4th gear, does the bike feel stressed or screaming for a gear change? or is 4th gear similar to "overdive" if the desired speed is met in 3rd gear? (as in, chillin' in 4th at 35mph?). If you went to 5th or 6th would it bog down and demand only 4th gear? 3) I can't imagine getting bored with going through the gear box but are there times when you don't feel like having to push to the rev-limiter? Better yet, if you don't go balls-to-the-wall, is the R3 sluggish? As for haters of 300/400cc bikes; they aren't complete motorcycle lovers.
Sal Sonic I have had the 2017 and currently own the 2019 r3 plus numerous other higher bikes and I also commute to work every day as well so I can probably answer these. 1) the 2017 I had def felt pretty buzzy around those speeds however the 2019 does not at all. It’s honestly very smooth even when you are pushing it to its limits. 2)the bike is def not stressed in 4th gear going 45 miles an hour. If you went up to 5th it wouldn’t bog down but if you get to 6th it def would. 3)the r3 is a blast to own and ride. Going through the gear box keeps you engaged and actually makes the ride way more fun to me. Honestly I commute about 30 minutes to work every day on a major highway and never push to the rev limiter. The bike is an amazing commuter. You are not gonna be able to go 140mph but you can kill in the corners and it sips gas. On the highway cruising at 80 in 6th is comfortable and does not feel sluggish. People that hate have def never rode a 300. I have had several bigger bikes (mt07, r6, and a gsxr 750) and still find myself drawn to the r3. Its lightweight and you really can’t beat the handling. Plus going through the gears is fun! Hope this helped.
@@jbryan817 - Hell yeah, that answered my questions. That's the most succinct answer I've ever received and I appreciate it. It says a lot that you had the '17 and came back for more, buying the '19. I know it will pop up in first (and 1st is a short gear) I wonder if it's possible to ride a wheelie at balance point by changing into 2nd? It's not a deal breaker because the engine/gearing/style is awesome. I've had the, 2013 CB1000r and currently a '17 Triumph Street Cup but I'm infatuated with this R3. Anyway, thanks again for the reply. You rule!
Sal Sonic honestly haven’t really tried to ride it out on this one. It will def do a wheelie in first and second though if you try. The bike is a blast and if you wanted to make it a stunt bike I am sure just changing the gearing would get it done for you
@@jbryan817 - Definitely with a gearing change; I've seen the vids. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow. I'm interested in the XSR700 and 900, along with hopefully a test model of the '19 R3. I'm surprised you let go of the MT07, seems like a keeper. The newer ones are supposed to be less twitchy.
You dont get it.. I know you are asian suzuki raider 150 is a fast bike if you are a bigginer .. Buttt if time comes on you, you will start to crave more power... So.. If you try the r3 you will find it fast again.. But sooon you will also out grow that bike.. Upgreade again to a 600 then same process untill you settle to a 1000.
You compared a 150 cc underbone to a 300cc sportbike? Really?? The suzuki raider r 150 has a topspeed of 140km per hour its not slow for a 150 cc bike it can destroy some 200- 250 cc bikes out there
@@noname-ow9ls i know .. you see my pic .. thats my r3 .. lots of underbones tried but they cant .. even though i always ride with my obr .. rider has a street name as the king .. while i call my r3 the king slayer .. 😏
Best bike for lane splitting and riding to work. Cheap to run too. I average 3.7L/100km if I ride it like I stole it. Highway cruising it gets 3L/100km
I think you guys missing the point or am just too old. No doubt the R3 Is amazing compared to the old Kawasaki 250. But still do you hear the amount of constant distress on that engine? It is not about that it can reach speeds over 100MPH on the highway, but how comfortable are you, how distressed is that little engine and for how long can you keep that up? So for me, if I am going to spend $5K on s bike, I want to be able to cruise at 80mph with an engine that is totally relaxed and in pure comfort, no wind buffering, not being blown away by wind and not having to suggest my muscles and tendons to such high frequency vibration for a long amount of time. The question is if you need to go on 2hrs long ride right now, empty a whole tank before taking a break, how would that bike fare with that constant high rev, that sound is annoying, you see it in the bar graph, RPM was always at full blast... That is fun for a short stunt, but to do an hour commute everyday, it will get old. And that is where something like the SV650 would be a better investment.
I've taken this bike up to the canyons for hours at a time and the engine loves to be revved, Ive been on performance oil since the first service and at constant revs of up to 10k the engine doesn't complain at all. It's not buzzy either. At least the 2019 version
Im gono get my 1st bike in a couple weeks. Its a 50cc 😂😂 and i feel its plenty fast lol. So yeah if ppl make fun of a 300 imagine me on my moped 🤦♂️🤦♂️
i hv yamaha x1r 135cc moped too.. small displacement bike.. enjoy riding it.. one day if you need to upgrade your riding skill, go for 300cc.. you'll get more riding skills on 300cc rather than 600cc-1000cc bike..
with r3 we can definitely 'ride' a bike.. with 600cc the bike 'rides' me.. lol.. i own an r6 now downgrading to r25 (i was looking for new r3 but out of stock and i cant wait so i grab r25 same body but smaller displacement (250cc) and do enjoy riding it.. can reach 190kmh if you want to go faster
Incredibly cheap and Easy. I got mine and at 2500 miles did the oil change, oil filter, plugs and k&n filter replacement. All diy and done very quick and Easy with normal tools ando nothing special
I feel it is decently fast...more practical...you can have fun on it through out you are riding it rather than having fun on a heavy bike in bits...it is an awesome looking motorcycle. Who so ever says having a lower cc bike is not fun...they should ride ot once and then form an opinion. Your bike looks super kool. Ride hard ride safe.👍👍👌👌❤❤
I have a 2016 R3, and i weigh about 140lbs... its got some rip for sure... for a little 321, theyre plenty fast... and idk about the 2019.. but mine does NOT like hanging out in first gear doing slow bullshit... she wants to get up n go and feels wayyy better in 3-5th...
I wouldn't class it as slow per se but I'm pretty sure my wolf would keep up with it & my wolf is only 124cc although you've got a couple of mph on me top end. Does look a nice bike & so long as your having fun who cares what anyone else thinks it's better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Smaller capacity machines are much more involving to ride which is why I only have a 125 at my age.
There are critics. However they are illegitimate because most of them have never been on a 300cc. This is an excellent first bike. Just take It easy and learn your bike before you get brave
Well. the 250cc version certainly is, its the slowest 250cc in the indonesian market rite now, with its rival the cbr250rr and new ninja 250, like Yamaha need to do something about this right? people are going to prefer the CBR250rr or the NInja 250 over the R25
I got new mirrors with signals for my 2019 R3 but I don't know how I connect the wires from the mirrors to the existing wires for the front turn signals, would anyone have any idea?
You are lucky have an R3 in your country, coz Here in Indonesia bike over 250cc will get double Tax. So we get R25, Ninja250 and CBR250RR here, only certain people have R1, H2 and So on over 250cc. R25 with the lower Horse power than R3 is not fast but also not slow because we could get easily to 150kph/90mph, I myself never reach in to the top speed with R25, only about 153kph gear 5th.
Good to know! Also pls slow down. There was like 39483 instances where you would have no chance but to die of someone merged. They can't see how fast you're going even if they see you.
yea it's slow lol 300's aren't meant to be fast. I have an MT-03 and it definitely starts feeling pretty breathless after your first 700 miles or so, but where it makes up for it is in its poise and handling. Once you start really getting good at cornering and braking, getting comfortable with really leaning the bike over, you really don't care that much about pure speed. Motorcycles are the most fun on the side of the tire. Do I want more power and torque? Who doesn't? Do I feel like the bike needs more power and torque? Not really...
Moto Chris some business thing not to sure. I was just there cuz my family downloaded this weird game where you travel all over and that was one location
Is the R3 slow .... My opinion, nope. It's absolutely with out a doubt one of the fastest things out there compared to your own two feet 😆. Seriously though, Go to deecaliboi channel and watch, he'll show you what it can do both on the street and the track if your willingness will allow you. I'm sure he's not the only one out there but I do enjoy watching
Because of regulation and many other reason, sometimes manufacture also cut down the power silently. Even my R25 with lower Horse power also able to reach 110mph. You know some issue when the R25 first gen launched in Indonesia? Many journalist and blogger try the test bike, some of them borrowed the test bike for a week, put it in to the dyno and get 31-32hp on wheel, that are pretty good for which claim 36hp on cranck. Few times later, one of blogger who dyno the test bike, bought R25 and put his own bike to the dyno which the same dyno machine that are using for the test bike. And what happened? Mass product bike only have 28-29 horse power which almost 3hp lost compare to the test bike.

I bought a used 2016 for a price way cheaper than most good mountain bikes and it’s very well worth it because it melts away the stress of work at the end of each workday.
yea i just couldn’t deal with this tho bro he’s going into 3rd gear at 59mph my 08 zx6r will do 75 in first
Isn't that boring though. Besides res pass 600s all the time in the corners at track day lol

I got my motorcycle permit today and this is gonna be my first bike I get to go get it in a week it is brand new no miles and is blue like the one in the video 😊 IM SO EXCITED!!!!
How was it? :)
Same question?
This shit was funny I'm about to get an r3 and I agree with all your reasons. I'm not looking to go 140+ for awhile. I just wanna ride and have fun. Good channel bro keep doing what you're doing!
Darrian Martin big facts!!! I got a 2016 Matte Grey and I’m enjoying it man. I’m quicker than almost everything on the road. It’s a blast to ride. I love it. Plus I work in the city it’s good on gas. I loving doing quick small burst of 100mph.
@Ruchn Yes
I love the fact that you include the whole ride and not just the good parts
Thanks man I appreciate that, the idea was to make the video as realistic as an expireance as possible without actually being on the bike

I wouldn't care if they laugh...no ones beating me up😏👊🏽...
I’m planning on buying an r3 in February as my first bike I can’t fucking wait
me too
Next month bro. still getting it?
and how is the bike?
My R3 is just right in my opinion, in the highway it's not bad. Since it's a lighter bike the wind knocks it around some but I have learned to just get down grip the tank with your legs and it feels better, I do need to get a double bubble wind screen and put a louder exhaust.
In my experience I am the one that is slow between me and my R3. I feel it can go so much faster in corners than I am able to (or have courage to) go.
Most people will never reach the limit of their bikes. They're incredible machines!
I have a 2017 R3 and can say it's NOT slow...luv that bike!
thanks for this video to a clear up the misconception of most people's minds there are people out here trying to work with a motorcycle with just too much power for them.
I think it's a perfect daily and a weekend backroad warrior. I don't ride a motorcycle yet but when the time comes, I'll definitely go for a R3.
I've ridden a 600, I think for most situations it's too fast
@@MotoChrisOfficial it is obviously. That's why it's great r3 is there for people who just want to commute or do the speed limit. But it's slow. And that's good.
I LOVE lower cc bikes man ! Commuting on a zx6r is 1st and 2nd gear Max threw town.. but these you can ring em out and rev them high and flick in and out of cars and it's just fun as hell man lol an absolute blast I'm telling you. Plus it's literally HALF the cost of a 600 supersport
That Yamaha r3 looks fast enough for me, thanks for the demonstration...
It’s not slow by any means for daily street riding. Now in terms of hanging with bigger bikes, yes it is. Good video!
Agreed
There is always some one faster in striaght line but its not the point.Take it to the twisties and big bikes are not that faster any more
Igor Holizna Exactly
After Installing Akrapovic gp full system it can go 0-60mph in 5 second which is equal to what Mustang can do and is pretty fast
Mines already 5 seconds less if that cuz I weigh 130 and smashed on a turbo subi
your videos are one of the few worth watching to see the R3 in action, becasue there are not much information about this bike, normally in my country, the people prefer to buy a 650 or 800 instead of a beginer bike due to the what the other people will think if you dont use a motogp bike.
I got a 2019 r25.well its not THAT fast but economical and really can zip itself among heavy traffic.0 to 100kph in 7+second and 140 kph in no time is plenty for me.what I really like is the SOUND.
Nice to see a moto vlogger wearing a decent helmet! Arai is where it's at!
The r3 is plenty for the road I haven't seen a speed limit higher than 75 and 0 to 60 compared to most cars is crushing

great video man! I just bought a 2019 R3 and it's so much fun to ride. I had a CBR 250 to start with then an Iron 883 then a Night Rod (1200cc) and I wanted something smaller and more relaxed. This bike has been a blast and I'm a pretty experienced rider.
very pretty bike! after 50 years of riding, going fast on a slow bike is not everything it is supposed to be. an R4 would be really nice!
Correct me if I'm wrong, was that the Amazon Fulfilment Center?! I use to work in Amazon too!
I was so disappointed in myself hahaha
Don't be. It's all good
What do you think of the cbr500r?
Great vid Chris! Finally an un-edited view/sound focused on the gearing/speed. Perfect camera angle too. Yamaha appears to have killed it with the gear ratio and two overdrive gears (4th/5th) for chill. Until we test ride, the questions are:
1) If the R3 is maintaining 90-95mph (152kmh) is the ride too buzzy with the engine appearing to be stressed?

Incredibly cheap and Easy. I got mine and at 2500 miles did the oil change, oil filter, plugs and k&n filter replacement. All diy and done very quick and Easy with normal tools ando nothing special

I wouldn't class it as slow per se but I'm pretty sure my wolf would keep up with it & my wolf is only 124cc although you've got a couple of mph on me top end. Well. the 250cc version certainly is, its the slowest 250cc in the indonesian market rite now, with its rival the cbr250rr and new ninja 250, like Yamaha need to do something about this right? people are going to prefer the CBR250rr or the NInja 250 over the R25
Do you have the R3 in Indonesia?

That'll be a beast of a bike.
What Makes an R3 better than a Ninja 400?
Watch out for the troopers that sit out along 36 by flatirons if you ate ever headed out that way.
Good to know! Also pls slow down. There was like 39483 instances where you would have no chance but to die of someone merged. They can't see how fast you're going even if they see you.
Is the speedo mph or kph?
yea it's slow lol 300's aren't meant to be fast.
Why were you moving so much while riding bro?
Haha. I was actually at the glass building at 1:57 today😂
What is that place even?

Yep for sure
Why this bike can go 180~199 kph(110~120 mph) in Brazil? And in your country go slowly than mine.
most likely weight of the rider

Stop means stop.
