My wash and go’s used to flake, but now after everything dries before I stretch it I put castor oil on the curls (section by section) and it helps!
It could be the product combination because curling creams that are already heavy then adding a gel will mostly like flake.
Banding like that is my go to way to stretch, but i recommend getting a pack of satin scrunchies from amazon! They basically slide off when you go to take them out and leave less dents in my hair the next day.
My hair always flakes with that mielle product, too. It gives such good definition but it's just sooooo flaky.
Dee That Mielle custard does the same thing to me, I just had to return it. I tried it numerous ways. A good leave in, castor oil and the new wet line gel is my go to.

It’s definitely the product combo. Try the kinky curly knot today leave in then an oil and the wet line. Best combo works every time for me 🙌🏾

Can we get an updated wash & go routine? I’m a braidout girl and I’m always scared to try wash n go’s because i can never find anyone with a similar texture to mine 💜💜💜
I use that custard. I learned that less is more. Hair has to be soaked to apply so you don't use so much of it. Hope that helps. It took me a few tries to get used to it. Some just honestly don't like it. Lol. It's hit or miss.

I used that Mielle custard last summer for a twistout and my hair flaked A LOT!!!
Honestly I just did a wash and go with the pattern leave in and the doux’s mousse and there’s no flakes and tons of hold // definition! I would def give it a try

Try a different leave in that will mesh well with the gel and custard!
Test the product on your hand (mix the gel and the custard / and or whatever products your using in your hair for your wash and go) and if it doesn’t blend on your hand properly .. leaving no residue then it won’t flake ... if it does , then it will flake .... I hope that makes since .. I’ve used the same combo and it was a no go for me !

That mielle custard is my go to!!! That's my all time favorite product! and girl, same about the hair typing thing... Like i hate the whole conversation. Your hair looks BOMB btw!!! My wash and goes look similar to yours so this is exactly what I needed.
Using more water usually reduces flakes... other than that idk what to do bc mine flake alot too so I be having to style it more often. When I use the mielle custard I use the leave that goes with it, then the custard, then style factor gel (but any gel works). I drench each section heavily with water before and in between each product.
Light gels always flake on me but I’ve learnt to add more water first instead of product if my hair isn’t clumping the way I want it to.

I don’t think you need the custard if you use a gel. If you pick one your flaking should be reduced. When I do my wash n go I do The Camille Rose Coconut Water leave in conditioner and curl setter cream and then wetline gel and I don’t get any flaking. It could just be the combination of those products also
you’re literally the ONLY other person i’ve seen with hair just like mine!! I’m going to attempt to do a wash & go once I take these braids down but i’m sooo lazy😭
your hair probably flakes a lot because of the combination or the gel and other products . to see if it will flake in your hair , mix your gel and the other product/s you use in your wash n go & mix a little into your hand . if it because clear and mixed well , it will most likely work in your hair . if it because white and chunky and not mixed well , it will most likely react with flaking , etc in your hair .

yeah I do this technique and I’ve still gotten flaking. Usually less when it mixes correctly but still some.
its still so cute defined and moisturized. i cant make a wash and go last a week...3 days tops
My hair used to flake a lot too, I found that applying products to soaking wet hair helps!
I have the same exact problem with flaking and the only thing that fixes it is if I use the texture id styling cream and it mixes with all the eco gels and wet line but instead of applying it first I have to put it on top of my gel to stop the flaking it’s kind of annoying but not more annoying than those flakes. Plus lots of water.
Your hair can flake more from touching it or manipulating it too much. It happens with me so I style my hair the way I want when it isn’t dry and when it’s done drying if I have to touch it I add oils to my palms first
I have 4b hair, and my curl pattern is the same as yours. But I get what you mean about not specifically stating it...cause it can be hard to determine!

A custard and a gel mix is bound to flake. Im convinced 😭 bomb definition but it will flake. I know from experience.

I use the mielle custard and noticed that it flakes easily when paired with other gels. I think the mielle paired with miss Jessie’s gel doesn’t flake too badly.
I used xtreme wetline gel (the new one ) for my wash and goes i love it tbh my curls last long and are super defined each time !! I have type 4 hair btw ☺

I’ve used Mielle’s custard as well with their curl smoothie from the same line for a wash and go & I got flakes too. Maybe it’s just the product. Also that big scarf, where did you get it? I NEED one. 😭

I think the problem might be you used too many products. Maybe next time just use a leave in & gel, like you mentioned, Instead of using 3 products.
