  • Earlier this year my Twitter feed was flooded with a group of writers from #Ship30for30. If you want to build a writing habit in a supportive community and well run course structure, Ship 30 for 30 is can't-miss opportunity.
    → Join the next cohort at mattragland.com/Ship30
    → Free training with me, Dickie, and Cole at mattragland.podia.com/replay-...
    → One Week Writer email course (for Ship30) matt.ck.page/ship30-evergreen
    They start new cohorts every 6-8 weeks, so no matter when you watch this video there is an opportunity to join!
    As the month went on I was astounded to see how consistent the “shippers” were at putting their ideas in the world. The practice resonated with me, because OG subscribers to my channel will remember that I launched on RUclips with a 30 day challenge in February 2017.
    What I didn’t have for my challenge and Ship30for30 does is a community of people who were along for the ride. Ship30 solved the three biggest problems of building a creative habit.
    1. Generating ideas to write about
    2. Helpful constraints to work in
    3. A community to cheer you on
    That last point is so important. If you’ve started publishing content on the internet before you know how lonely it can feel to publish a video, newsletter, or podcast and have no one respond. Even for the most dedicated creators it’s a difficult challenge to overcome.
    The best part of Ship30, besides the confidence of becoming a writer, is the community you build. There’s always someone on Twitter liking, commenting, celebrating, and supporting new Ship30for30 essays - so you never feel like you’re shouting into the void. We see you and are so excited you decided to ship.
    You can also get a free training with myself, Dickie, and Cole about how to generate endless ideas for writing, protect your “sacred hours” to write, and use Twitter the way it was meant to be used… as the greatest idea lab ever created. Sign up here - matt.ck.page/ship30-evergreen
    Thanks for watching this video about my experience with Ship30for30, I truly believe it’s one of the best if not the best course, community, and challenge for building a writing habit. I’d love to see you what you ship in the future, tag me on Twitter @mattragland and I’ll be sure to like and follow your essays. See you there!

      I would love to communicate my passion and my research work and experiences online in a way that motivates and helps others who want to work in my field. I have started a blog, and I wrote a few essays but this issue of literally no one reading it just really really demotivated me.
      Since I am writing more of informative, scientific stuff, each essay takes quite a lot of background reading and fact checking so not having readers is really demotivating. I have a couple articles ready to post but haven't bothered to proof read and post them yet. So thanks for this video! I hope this helps!
      (Oh and I primarily write about Astronomy and would like to branch out a little bit into my graduate school experience too)

      @@sohinidutta97 I know that is demotivating! What I'd think about is how to test different subjects in your writing in micro-essays. Could be just one specific point you want to tease out and gauge feedback. Think of it like writing one section at a time and seeing how people respond. I'd also think about how to share the meta process of academic writing. A lot of people search for "how to write academic journal articles" and you could find some inspiration there!

      Hey Matt,
      I work as a solution architect and software developer and my plan is to write longer form blog posts in the form of tutorials mainly
      If you could give some tips on how the atomic essays, which in my mind are much much shorter, could help the longer form tutorial writing, that would be highly appreciated.
      Keep up the great work!

    Recently discovered Ship 30 and the work of Dickie and Cole, already learned a lot and haven't even taken the course yet. Not sure if you're still responding to comments in this video, but I'm putting together ideas for my experience starting and running an art gallery, how artists can establish themselves in the art world, and learning what you should have been taught at art school.

      They seriously make it very easy to set up a writing system and you can get to 250 words in 30 minutes or less. An easy on-ramp to writing is using your most popular and/or important RUclips videos! Start with how you quit caffeine, took cold showers, and Notion tips. You already have content to practice with!

    Interesting! I've always wanted to do NaNoWriMo which is a challenge to write a novel in a month but never had the time to do it because its in November and that's exam season. This seems better since they run more sessions each year.

    • @MattRagland
      @MattRagland  2 года назад +1

      @@niceandgloomy definitely good there is a range of options for writers. I can say the benefit of a paid course like Ship30 is the organization, community, and resources for members. Most people who I've watched do NaNoWriMo just do it on their own without any support or structure. That's tough too :)

    • @andrewmolloy376
      @andrewmolloy376 2 года назад +2

      I've tried NaNoWriMo a couple of times over the years. Never got further than 1000 words or couple of days in. Ironically I could probably go back to it this year and do a lot better because of Ship 30.

    Hi Matt, thank you for the video. I am all set up to start my own ship 30 for 30 story (without joining the cohort), the one missing piece I need is how I get to format my Atomic Essays the way you guys in the cohort do it!? Is that a PDF? Or a screenshot of something written in Typeshare. I know, just a detail, but an important one, as I see it, cause it needs to look that sharp and sweet. Would be cool if you could help me out. Thank you, Philipp

    • @MattRagland
      @MattRagland  Месяц назад +1

      Hey Philipp, I think Typeshare is the easiest. You could also format in cool ways and screenshot from Notion, too. I used a Figma file, but I think that is overkill for most people.

    I’m interested in the intersection of learning, visual note taking and PKM and geography. Thoughts??

    • @MattRagland
      @MattRagland  2 года назад +1

      Lots of different overlap there! 💡 How visual notes help with retention, creativity, and learning new subjects (all can be separate essays) 💡 PKM structures for visual notes (since there isn't as much or any text to search) 💡Organizing geographic data in a PKM system to for quick access.
