Improving your posture. Walking TALL and sitting TALL. I am 68 with Multiple Sclerosis. I have found that improving my posturer has enabled me to walk better with more confidence. Also my bladder functions better.
I told my wife and daughter to say or even shout “posture” at me when they see my shoulders roll forward and slump over while sitting. It’s a constant battle. Yoga has helped a lot and I’ve even asked my yoga teacher to pull my shoulders back if he sees me slouching. I think the iPhone is aiding and abetting the slouching too…..
It's a blessing coming around this video. I wish I found you earlier. Because of the bad posture i developed so many pains in my spine. Never too late. It's really helping me a lot. Blessings to you from India
My kyphosis started with vision changes. My being extremely myopic since preschool, as my close-up vision changed (starting in my early 40s), I had to lean my head forward to be close enough to the computer screen at work, and forward and down, looking over the top of my glasses, to see my hand needlework at home. No doubt the younger generations are rapidly headed this way with constant cellphone use, even before their vision changes. There should be warnings upon sales and with advertising!
I'm 67 and semi retired blue collar guy who started feeling short and like a cartoon turtle, hunched over! I intuitively started consciously watching the points made here, but the biggest difference was as follows. Upon waking during the night, or in the morning, I lay on my side and arch my back as far as possible. I then support that posture with my arms and legs and relax. Within 1-2 minutes I feel my spine "open up". When I wake again, or after several minutes, I switch sides and repeat. If I sleep some on each side I rise feeling 2 inches taller and no back tension!
I've been struggling with your exercise #3 (that I found in a previous video) for a couple of weeks now. After watching this one, I've raced out an purchased a Mediband so I can use it to perform exercise #2 and I've got to admit, it already feels so, so much better and I feel a lot more confident that exercise #2 is going to prove very effective over time. Thanks very much for the great videos, Will.
Thanks very much for your vids! You give clear and detailed instructions! You said in this vid, “don’t worry you won’t get a double chin”. So my question is, will it help get rid of a double chin? Thanks, keep up the good work!
I love your videos. Tried other posture exercises ( cat/cow) on the chair was easy but caused severe pain, lumbago, later. It took several days to get out of it, pelvis didn't like that move. Today's exercises are great. Thank you.
I have a condition (I don't suffer from it, since it causes me no pain or discomfort except when people point it out to me) which I've discovered is called Scheuermann’s kyphosis. It's a permanent curvature of the upper spine which makes the last exercise shown here impossible. I wonder how many other people have it.
Thanks Will....All the computer work really has me forward in that undesirable way. Are those posture strap devices worth wearing? I see various models for sale that have a criss cross strap across your back and wrap around your shoulders. Maybe they are good for reminding you to sit erect, but maybe not that effective for actually changing your physiology.
It's much better to strengthen your muscles to have proper posture than to try to rely on devices. Those devices can cause more problems. The only time you want to use a device is when it is to immobilize for protection while an injury heals.
When I'm walking I concentrate on looking forward and not at ground in front of me. That helps alot

We often need reminders, so this is a good tip! And yes definitely, anything that keeps us looking downwards can contribute!
Glad I found your videos. They have helped immensely. (USA)

Not Easy Exercises
Videos are too long. 11min for one exercise is just too much. You videos look interesting but most are just too long.
