  • Basic build guide for a cold damage caster character.
Never going to be 'the best build ever' but if you want a fairly easy caster/magic build that can also be viable in the base game (no DLCs), try this one.

With all the editing and re-recording footage, I think I managed to omit the part where I talk about the two one-pointer skills (one from Arcanist, one from Nightblade) that both give 3 seconds of total invulnerability. Grab those, obviously, particularly if you’re risking this build in hardcore.

Welcome back. Spellbreaker was my first level 100 Nightblade, and it felt giga-squishy... then I played a Reaper and discovered what squishy really was.

Yeah, I'm not even going to admit to the number of deaths on this but it's really just a cosmetic-theme build, no aspirations of being particularly strong in any department.

@@Arcadelife1 I don't remember which video it was in, but the most fun I've had in Grim Dawn was your Leafmane Trophy for inquisitor sigil. That build was so good. I played it 3 times to lvl 100 with different friend groups because it just felt great to me.

@ Heck yeah, that was funny - I originally did it on an Apostate (Inquisitor+Necro) with Namadea’s Eye and a vitality pistol but I’ve since done it on a Vindicator (Inquisitor+Shaman) and that was just as silly. Great to hear you’ve been using that build/concept and having fun with it 👊🙂

Welcome back, Merry christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I thought I was about done getting STEAM achievements until I raise up through the difficulty levels, but suddenly I got a couple of handfuls. Now I've got 111. I think that's 74 left to go. I started this build today, named mine "Winter". Good to have you back. Ciao for now.

@@Arcadelife1 I thought your Nuclear Olexra and your Acid Damage build were powerful!!! I'm running this one now and she's kicking some SERIOUS ASS!!!! I also farmed Janaxia (sp?) for the Chillblade, but although I got one with +207% Cold Damage and... I think it was higher than +170% Frostburn, I stuck with the Spectral Mace I'd gotten from Wradlith. The bonuses to skills on that thing make it SO much better. Maybe if I get bonuses to the same skills on other gear the Chillblade may then become viable so I'll hold onto it. So far nothing has killed her. I hit at least level 55 before I stopped a few hours ago due to fatigue. Hope you are staying warm. Later.

Craft Deathchill Bolts instead of using Chilled Steel once you hit level 15, it gives you Greater Ice Spike and nice bonuses to cold damage.
Early levels, a few points in iskandra's can help with energy regen. Also, if you have spare points, ring of frost and the pneumatic burst tree are nice additions.

      Sorry, just kidding.
Due to balancing, there are no really silly OP builds, however it is very easy to create an Occultist build using Dreeg’s Evil Eye that can one-shot bosses while levelling in Normal - that’s about as broken as I can get a build in this game.

i love cold damage builds, it's unfortunate it's one of the least supported damage type masteries-wise. Like you got nightblade, arcanist, necromancer and inquisitor, sounds a lot, but it's not the best of synergies, like nothing compared to vitality or fire. At least the devotions and skills are so good it makes up for it somewhat.

@@SlamDance87 In my experience, multiplayer is usually ‘co-op with a mate’ and random glitches. There are probably a few exceptions but I doubt you’ll find many open games where you can join random players. You’d need to be similar levels with similar (preferably exact) quest progression for it to actually work out ok. As I said, ‘in my experience’.
