    What on earth am I hearing about Karma Cannon? It's nowhere near one of the worst traps lmfao. That is one of the most shortsighted things I have ever heard in one of these videos.
    The special thing about this card is the second part "then, if either player controls a face-up monster(s), they must send all face-up monsters they control to the GY." This alone makes the card one of the very, very few outs to cards (notable others being Kaijus/Lava Golem etc.) that have built in protection. Having this as a trap option gives trap decks a relatively simple out to many things that are a nightmare to deal with otherwise. Things like an IP Masquerena'd Avramax, which is untargetable and cannot be destroyed by card effects, and you can't even run over it by battle. Flip this and it's gone (as well as every other Link in the game regardless of what protection it has). A trap deck might literally have no other option to get rid of that outside of Lava Golem etc. Another example is BLS-Chaos Soldier. It will also completely wipe a Dinosaur players board if they used Miscellaneousaurus. It might not be a premier option vs current decks but the card has a very unique use case (especially for a trap) and is also incredibly versatile in general. Also, locking materials face-down is very often better than destroying them, since most decks cannot interact with their own monsters if they are face-down, whereas they can usually do stuff with them if they are in the graveyard or if their field is cleared.
    I would say this is definitely a tech option for Labrynth as they have incredible Normal Trap access, and situations can come up where you have to out something that cannot be targeted/destroyed, and this bypasses all of that. Skill Drain of course will generally take care of stuff like that (besides cards that are unaffected by everything if they are on the field first) but it's not a Normal Trap and would have to be hard drawn and active in advance. This is a nice option to have in the toolbox of traps for Lady to search in case you run into something like that. And most of what I have said is just specifically talking about the secondary effect, not even the primary effect of the card which can end turns on its own (especially vs stuff like Kashtira if they didn't just hard draw Birth).
    Really disappointed to see this card trashed like that. Rarran was much closer with the "other cards are more powerful", especially with the primary effect being overshadowed by the upcoming Weight Measuring card, but the fact remains that the secondary effect is still extremely unique and something to keep in mind. This card is much, much better than Torrential Tribute considering the current state of the game. Book of Moon was not at 1 for years for nothing.

      @YukiFubuki. Год назад +2

      yeah i have to agree, daruma cannon is definitely at least a side-deck stable for any trap heavy/centric deck
      most of the time it will just be a stun tool which is rather mid but against certain matchups and specific threats it is very much the counter to those
      many been wishing rarran would toss stevie and just grab someone else already, people been complaining about stevie's assessment's on cards since the first vid months back
      btw i've actually killed a IP masq'ed avramax in battle before using icejades of all things, all the banishing my opponent did in prior turns allowed a normal summoned aegerine to reach +5000 atk from aegirocassis equipping itself to her to slap avramax into the grave, hilarious shit

    5:18 Stevie is wrong about Daruma Cannon. The card IS good, it's just a niche card, currently only seeing play in OCG Labrynth decks. The same can be said for Torrential Tribute, and Daruma Cannon is arguably better because it sends the monsters instead of destroying them, and it can be activated whenever you want as opposed to a specific trigger window. It also has weird language that forces your opponent to send the monsters so it bypasses trap immunity. Stevie paints cards in a specific framework (like with Dogwood), so it was frustrating to see he wasn't consistent with this card.

      The conditions in most circumstances can honestly be boiled down to "flip all monsters, send all Links"
      I absolutely see how Labrynth is having fun with this, blessed be the "whatever the fuck you want" Trap Searcher

    • @DarkCT
      @DarkCT Год назад +1

      @@syrelian exactly, this cards great for most flip/set focused or trap centric decks. my main trap deck is Paleozoics, and over there the card is basically mass book of moon+ links/unaffecteds all dead and a paleo activation on the top. it's a niche card for sure, but torrential is hardly what it once was either considering how many monsters can be destruction immune or even have self-revival clauses based on destruction. being able to activate it more freely helps too.
      It has it's issues- setting your own monsters even in trap focused decks does take away immunity to some effects at times. Traptrix in particular is better off with Torrential I think just because all their ED has some kind of trap immunity, thus falls into the unaffected class. but especially as a removal tool in a link/unaffected focused territory, the cards a deadly piece. even in it's worst case use in these decks, the mass BoM can just save you an additional turn if it goes off, plus any flip effects resets

If your opponent has monsters that are unaffected by card effects, they would stay face-up on the field, which would mean that your opponent would have to send all of their monsters to the graveyard. This is considered "non-destructive removal," which is a pretty valuable effect in yugioh

      monsters that are unaffected by card effects cant be getting rid of by anything thats text on a card.

    Haven't watched the entire video yet, but I have something to say about Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon, Stevie, like most YGO players, has min maxer brain and does not understand the fact that cards can just be good and not be amazing, for the majority of the ygo community the card is either broken or miserable with no in-between, also most ygo players will miss interpret a card's quality with the amount of tops and the amount of META play the card has, which there's usually a correlation, but not always, Girsu didn't see any META play, but no sane person would say that card is trash, same thing here, DDCK isn't the best thing ever, it isn't meta relevant, but it is a good card, just good, a typical 6/10 good.

      I think the issue wasn't really that, so much as missing the nuances of the card, because my initial read was pretty similar
      Why wouldn't I use a cleaner removal method? Or if I really wanted to force face-downs instead of blowing them out, there's other shit, including the god forsaken Mirror Force retrains
      But there's nuances I'm noticing from comments, like the wording on its removal, this card may as well say "Your opponent Sends all Link Monsters" and be done with it, out that goddamn 6k The Arrival Cyberse

Because I sure wouldn't. And those are just cards off the top of my head. There are nearly 2000 traps in the game, and I've probably only read like 1 or 2 hundred so far.
      OP is 100% right here, it feels like Stevie has a tendency to treat any card below a 6/10 as like a 1 or a 0, it feels like he should be leaning more on mediocrity when talking about a card like this.

If the game shifts to either a Link-heavy meta or a meta where more and more unaffected monsters see play it can be devstating because it works around any kind of protection and even turns them into a weakness.

    Personally, these videos are very interesting to watch. However Steve, although being a semi-wellknown yugituber doesn't always have correct reasoning for whether or not a card is good or not. With the example of Ultimate slayer, the card is a very good card, it is simply format dependent instead of it being bad because of deckbuilding commitments. I look forward to Rarran colabing with other more competitive yugitubers in these kinds of videos.

  • @hi-i-am-atan
    @hi-i-am-atan Год назад +2

    one nuance about ultimate slayer that didn't get touched on: the monster on its art is apollousa, a link monster with a negate, and that largely hints on the standard use case of the card: while apollousa herself ain't the prime target ( her negate only hits _monster_ effects, so the art is moreso meant to depict the art as her technique ), it _is_ meant to be a way to fairly reliably get rid of links with effects that would otherwise just negate or trade with your removal, because links are generic enough that it's a rare scenario to not have both players running 'em. and while extra deck space is tight enough that you don't really have room for kinda throwaway links, you'll still usually have a space or two for a knightmare that's only in there as a generic toolbox card which won't mess with your combo if you pitch it. and, hey, if you happen to be playing a deck that focuses on the same extra deck mechanics as your opponent, or a deck that just flat-out makes use of a variety of 'em, then it _does_ become as flexible as it may seem
    unfortunately, it's not a quick-play, and while links _are_ very generic, most of them are used as combo pieces and extenders outside of decks. so one of the main purposes of a dedicated link killer, disrupting a piece of the opponent's combo that they just sank a bunch of resources into, is totally lost. that just leaves it as a dedicated going second card to snipe troublesome big bosses so they can't disrupt your plays, and formats _do_ regularly see big generic link monsters as part of a turn 1 endboard ... but as secondary bosses to extend the board pressure of the deck's primary bosses. and dedicated link decks are good at shitting out multiple boss links. and you have to hard draw it. and it targets. and your opponent can still activate backrow in response, at which point they are no longer activating effects in response to ultimate slayer and they can use monster effects again
    hell, if _you_ chain an effect to _your own_ ultimate slayer, they are no longer activating effects in response to ultimate slayer and they can use monster effects
    like, it's still a p. nutty card in a vacuum - the fact that it _spins_ the monster back into the deck means that it completely bypasses most protection effects ( though, unfortunately, targeting protection is one of the more common forms ) and prevents any real target from floating - and it'd absolutely be a staple in a lot of the game's formats. it's just that all its traits that _could_ make it good are held back by those traits not quite reaching far enough. it could snipe important combo pieces, but you're stuck only using it on your turn. it could slip through preventative measures to remove a key part of your opponent's endboard, but you're only dealing with one troublemaker and there's no guarantee said endboard will even have a key monster that your extra deck can hit. and it targets. it's just sorta one of those cards that has its appeal and purpose and sees experimentation and play, but ends up being one of the first things to get cut when refining a deck

      @@animedegenerate1437 oh, right, completely forgot that a lot of the good extra deck floaters don't have any trouble proccing off of costs
      admittedly it's another good trait of the card that's held back by the finer details, because a lot of those floaters aren't links and dumping them is a lot more specific, but it's still a very real facet of the card's utility that helps keep it out of the abyss of "this doesn't quite look like pack filler, _but_ ..."

  • @SamBsound
    @SamBsound Год назад +2

    Destructive Daruma Karma Canon actually has competive applications. It's a niche, but to call it one of the worst cards ever printed is incorrect. It has extremely potent use cases if you understand how it works:
    1. Torrential Tribute (his supposedly better card) sends cards to the GY where they can trigger there effects. This card avoids that.
    2. The card sends face up monsters by game mechanics (not by card effect, as it reads "the player" must send). This is important, because it can be used to remove monsters that are unaffected by card effects.
    3. There are decks like Kashtira (the best deck in Yugioh right now), that cannot play with face down cards on their field. They require an empty field as a requirement to summon themselves from the hand. If you use this card to set their field facedown, they may have to just end their turn.
    4. You can activate this card at virtually any time, unlike alternatives like Torrential which can only be activated when your opponent summons a monster. For example, a trap deck can use this card to break a board going second. This is especially potent against link based strategies.
    None of these things make it a universal staple. But in the correct context, it can be more effective than it's alternatives.

It is searchable in the deck, forcing boss monsters to flip face down that have destruction protection or immune to targeting effects is a good way to get around certain annoying cards. And cards like raidraptor ultimate falcons get destroyed by it since it forces the player to remove it. Since Labrynth does struggle against cards with those effects because majority of removal traps target or says destroy. Outside of that it is a meh card. It is more or less a tech option.

      @YukiFubuki. Год назад

      sort of, pretty much every combo involves a couple monsters entering and leaving the field in tandem resulting in dogwood making you gain LP equal to the attack value of all of them each and every time they hit the field resulting in a non-neglectable amount of LP gain that can take multiple turns to to deplete back to the prior amount at worst meaning its not so much a stall card as IT IS the stall and again as mentioned by stevie its used to cheat the time rules
      it helps that the the atk value of bigger and better monsters starts getting exponentially lower the higher the lvls like many lvl 3-4 monsters has anywhere from 1.2k-2k so you would expect something like lvl 6-8 to have at least double that as the standard values at 3.2-4k but most hover at 2.5-3k instead so even if the opponent were to do a massive combo to get 3 monsters with at least 3k atk onto the field the user of dogwood would probably have already gained LP anywhere from 2-5 times the amount of dmg the opponent can eventually deal to them
