Me: I'm a violinist.
Layne: (plays)
Me: I'm not a violinist.
😂
How he plays can be your goal then
@@GeekGamer666 Can't just Layne be the goal? (ok, so I'm objectifying... But man, o man alive, this group of men.)
@@GeekGamer666 very encouraging!😊🌸
I just love how straightforward this comment is
Lingling challenge: play a violin while beatboxing*
Layne: hold my beer
Hi Linglingwannabee! 😄
Well Kevin played Cello and was beatboxing hat the same time
It's LayneLayneChallenge now.
He practiced 40 hours a day, that's why he can do it
Layne IS Ling Ling
i’m so happy people are recognizing just how talented Layne is
He’s beaming with talent
He’s probably my favorite, I mean everyone else is great and all. But he’s the best.
Smh he wouldn't be there if he wasn't AT LEAST great
wait, there's ppl that didn't know?
He is
That look at 1:40 said it all
Geoff: "I survived that note Layne"
Layne: "Go on Geoff"

I've seen it more as
Layne: Geoff, you good there?
Geoff: I think so
@@Lafayette-hk2gd: J None: I have the lead
Layne: whatz up.
Somebody should tell Skrillex if he's alive.....
Is there anything that Layne can't do?
His arrangements are always brilliant.
His beatboxing is exceptional.
When he sings, his voice is just so beautiful I melt.
And now the violin???
Yep
Yes thank you!
I'd like to see them do a version of Talking Heads "Burning Down the House" now, LOL
I know, right??? I’m hooked on Layne now! 😊😊😊😍
He can also dance some what, He's so sweet and adorable, and he is funny also. This man is perfect.
If Layne and Lindsey Sterling did an arrangement together, with Voice play doing vocals.......💙💙💙
Ok, but like, what about K.O. from PTX as well?
Yes please😎
So true
Great idea!
Omg yes!!😍💜💜💜😌🌈
It saddens me how many musicians forget the power of silence. The "rest" is one of the most often used, and underrated, musical notations. An entire orchestra at rest, then suddenly (or even not-so-suddenly), hitting the mark with a return to sound, can be just as effective as filling every moment with sound.
VoicePlay uses that device to fantastic effect here. Bravo!
I keep coming back to this song (and Oogie Boogie Man, tbh) because of the power of the harmonies. Especially the minor harmonies and the supreme voice control required to shift them mid-note like ya'all are doing. And Lainey rocking that violin! This isn't my favorite song, but for the sake of pure harmonic power and precision, I don't know I've heard better.
YES! I have had to convince people that a well placed silent drop is powerful.
@@CharronMcLeod yes, they are do some really cool and original stuff in their arrangements. They seem to pay such careful attention to every detail and truly excel.
"It's not the notes that make the music. It is the silence in between." -- Mozart

Now this ladies and gentlemen, it what you would call a BASS drop
Perfect
You mean 1:37?
He admitted it was electronically manupilated
ZevGotNoBev Meh, he still hit the note either way. J. None’s transition note was also electronically manipulated, just adds onto the intensity of the song
@ZevGotNoBev that was a different note, no? that is not the debated A0 right?
Well....now I know why Voiceplay is an acapella group.......because them with musical accompaniment is WAY TOO DANGEROUS 😳
I have one thing to say to that: Let's get dangerous!
Layne...
1. Arranged this amazing piece
2. Will be beatboxing
3. Will be playing the violin
4. Will be making each one of us go "Wow" 😍
LOVE #violayne !!! 💕❤💝
Edit (after premiere): I commented this before the premiere, hope everything makes sense ✨and everyone was SO. AMAZING. Earl's crazy high notes, Eli's and J.None's angelic singing voice, Layne's godlike beatboxing, and Geoff's powerful bass... They never failed to keep us reminded why we love them so much 💕
Mini Apple i agree
Layne can cellobox wowzzers

@@narfx95770 you should probably collaborate with Pentatonix, it would be absolutely lit 🔥
I’m not the only one who found the violin playing beautifully satisfying right?
No
Definitely not, it was _glorious._
I guss it was oki but thats not acapella they have a 0 tolrence for instruments props yes instruments no.
Regardless droping that it was a acapella group i can accept it was a good vilin work.
Layne just totally blows my mind in this one. His violin playing is amazing, and the fact that he's doing the vocal percussion at the same time, just amazing.
He’s a beast!❤
One thing that sets Voiceplay apart from any other Acapella group is their storytelling. They don’t just sing. They tell a story with their expressions and with their voices. That’s why I love them so much. Incredible as always.
You're right about Voiceplay, but there are a handful of other groups out there who do it as well. All the love.
What about calling it a capella when it has instrument accompaniment?
@@ORIGINALhamsterbait They’re not the first to do this. But also the song is mainly their voices.
@@ORIGINALhamsterbait You should watch more of their videos, friend. The vast majority are actually a capella. This one is anomalous (but no less impressive for it!)
@@ORIGINALhamsterbait they are an acaapella group that occasionally has another instrument added. They' fit best in that category. That said, they knocked it out of the park with this one.
When a bunch of guys smother their faces in dirt and still look great, you know you've got some seriously good looks right there.
To be fair, it also matters HOW you smother it... cause if done well enough, a person could look better with the dirt.
@@TheDeathmail XD true but I don't think these guys could look bad if they tried lol
Who cares how they look, when they sound like this?

But now, I've determined he's not even living- the amount of talent he has is so un-f*cking-believable.

Ok
Those 9 people who disliked must be jealous of Layne's ability to sing, beatbox and play the violin majestically.
Or they came here expecting an a cappella performance and found it wasn't.

That Pizzicato is just perfect with the acapella voices!
I just realized that Layne is playing violin and drums simultaneously. Now that's talent right there! How many bands have someone who can do that? 😂❤️
Pentatonix; Kevin plays cello and beatboxes at the same time.
Geoff’s epic baseline, the higher harmonies from Eli and Earl, the talent of j none singing and playing violin, and laynes beatboxing and violin-ing made for an epic combination.
Layne has super powers.... I mean everyone else did amazing but Layne not only showed us his violin skills but he killed it!

1:37 Geoff finally reaching the 0th octave on mic (B0)
Sounds like a subharmonic B1 to me
@@camctrail if you think b1 sounds like that.oof to you my friend
A0!!!
edit: that A0 wasn’t him😢
That is a subharmonic B0 . . .
Pretty sure this one is a C2-B1, layered with the fifth above it (G2-F#2). Because the ratio of perfect fifths is 3/2, the constructive interference between the sine waves creates a new wave with a wavelength of half the lower of the fifth (in this case C2-B1), making it sound like the resulting note is C1-B0. If you listen closely with headphones or a good sound system, you can hear both notes. Another great example of this is on Home Free and Chris Rupp's "What Child is This?" in the last section, when Tim sings a C#2 and Adam Chance sings a G#2 and the resulting note sounds like a C#1 (this is followed up by a perfect C#3 and C#2 octave which sounds much different). I asked Chris about that one and he told me it was a C#2. This is good stuff either way!
I have to take a moment to appreciate Laynes level of concentration to be able to beat box while playing the violin! I get distracted by squirrels while having a conversation 😂 haha
I feel so sorry for Geoff and his wife...it must be real awkward when people’s pants fall off every time he opens his mouth.

Love the VIOLIN! And Geoff’s lower range just doesn’t stop. I’m obsessed!
So I was yesterday years old when I discovered that Eli can _sing his ass off._ I only discovered VoicePlay last week (actually I found Geoff's channel first, which completely blew me away and then lead me to VoicePlay for MOAR) and I haven't even watched half of your vids yet, but just... wow. Wow wow WOW. Geoff of course has an _astounding_ voice and range that makes it easy to focus on him and miss how talented you all are, but seriously part of the joy of skipping between VoicePlay videos is finding out who is going to stun me with brilliance next. Speaking of which, the violins in this? Perfection. I was already impressed with Layne and then THIS just floored me that he can play violin like this too?!
It's not just that the music is amazing - which it freaking *_is,_* omg - but the costumes, the entire scenes you set so every one of your videos is a feast not just for the ears but also the eyes and the imagination- like the absolute best traits of musical theatre distilled down into short yet perfect vignettes of glorious fantasy.
Aaaaaand I'm going to stop gushing like a fangirl and go back to downloading all your music onto my phone so I don't use up all my month's data watching your vids on RUclips. Ahem. (I promise I'm a grownup. You guys are just that awesome.)
P.S. I think this one is my favorite despite my love for all the NMBC ones- I've probably listened to this like 25 times since yesterday afternoon! xD
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole! It's a wonderful, happy place filled with musical magic, as you've discovered. I almost envy you!
Thank you! It's been rather slow going through their old songs since almost every one I listen to becomes my new obsession, but it's a wonderful journey!
Voiceplay before the video: haha look Layne can play the violin!
Us: wow 🤩
Voiceplay in the video: J. None can too!
Us: holy sh*t
I remember hearing this for Worlds 2014 and my mind being blown. Thank you VoicePlay for blowing my mind again!
So it WAS a violin I saw in Layne’s hands in the thumbnail. I couldn’t believe my eyes
Such talent, Layne🤯👏

These guys always inspire me, eachin different ways:
1. As a percussionist, I look up to Layne with his intricate rhythm.
2. As a bass, I look up to Geoff and his vocal technique, which has made my vocal range expand lower.
And 3. As someone who has perfect pitch, the overall harmonic overtones of Eli, Earl, and J are absolutely flawless, please keep up with what you guys are doing and do not change a thing.

To give a reference to how low Geoff can now go. He hits a very well toned B0, the lowest note on a 5 string bass guitar. Yes the bass guitar that had an extra string to go lower and he hits that note. That’s a note I would rarely hit live because usually doesn’t always sound nice tonally when you use it on a device made to play low. But here Geoff is clear clean sound with great tonal quality.
It was digitally altered in this recording. They used an undertone boost on a subharmonic clip to get that sound. They even said so live. He could very easily chest fry that line with enough warmup

Love it when Layne plays the violin. BRAVO! Great foot stamping! Great close harmony! DRAMATIC! Thank you for including the lyrics! WELL DONE!
As a fan of Imagine Dragons and Violin in pop music, I approve this cover.
Each one of them are incredible but the ensemble of each one is magnificent, exciting and much more, because they all have something to contribute and that is what makes this group perfect. I honestly do not think there is a better member than the other since they all have a quality that makes them special and when they are brought together the purest representation of harmony is formed because they are all very good at what they do and know how to work together. In conclusion, there is nothing better than the five of them together or even one of them separated because they all complement each other and benefit each other.
Ya'll... every time you release a new video, you astound me all over again. This time, I just straight up short circuited.
Layne, you did an INCREDIBLE job. I had no idea you could play the violin, and you KILLED IT. J.None as well. I am so stoked to hear what you guys come up with next.
