Just an awesome voice and technically she sang that perfectly. However, Annette's version lets my soul know what the musical version of joy feels like.
When Annette Strean of Venus Hum and Venus Hum did this, SHE ABSOLUTELY OWNED THAT STAGE, because she did it RIGHT. This pales. Annette Strean, I hope you will read this. Mitch
Donna Summers, Annette Strean and Katherine Jenkins ALL smashed this. Trying to choose between them is wrong. Each brought their individual voices to the song.
So so, just another humdrum IFL cover and not an especially good one right up until Jenkins starts using her voice as an instrument and BANG! Jesus, Mary, Joseph and all the little orphans... she absolutely nails it. Talk about leading us up the garden path to nowhere before turning off onto the Yellow Brick Road to all the wonders of Oz. This climax left me speechless and wanting more.
Was ein Sopran! ... meiner Treu! ... hatte schon Sorge, mir zerspringt das Glas in der Vitrine. Dennoch: Gefühlvoller und authentischer hatte es Annette Stearn rübergebracht. Hi Annette, if you read this: your voice is gorgeous and your version makes me an addict to this song.
We all know that Katherine is away from her usual genre here but she certainly has the voice range for this version. Combining her talents with the superb studied lunacy of the blue man group as "backing" is just brilliant. Its not a competition. Donna and Georgio were a ground breakers with this song here and Annette certainly gave a different vocal slant to what is a unique and simply fantastic track. Katherine here just did the same - and magnificently at that.
Agreed. I was just reading your post when the video had her voice go high and your point was nailed home flawlessly. I'm clicking-out and going to the Venus Hum version
If anything, Katherine Jenkin's voice is too powerful for pop, but this is pretty good, prefer the original version by Donna Summer, and also the live version with Venus Hum though.
Rich Mond pop and classic/ opera don't go usually...like oil and water....when one tries to do the other it doesn't usually work (out)...then again I could be wrong...I guess there's exceptions
Its a stylistic issue not strength of voice. Strean has quite a set of pipes on her and clearly her voice is not "too powerful". Its poor creative choices in this rendition.
its good, but her voice and version dont achieve the greatness of annette strean s performance as venus hum with the Blue Man group. Glad I heard it but I am going back to the Venus Hum version
Is she a great singer? Yes. Is she the right singer for THIS song, in this style? Nope. When she went opera, I thought, "Either the whole thing should have been that way, or none at all." I also thought, "The Venus Hum version posted by Bicycle Nerd is immensely better." This woman is talented, and gorgeous to boot...but just not the right choice.
Like McCartney & Wings say Venus & Mars are all right tonight ! Venus Hum and Annette Strean were far better ! But the opera version was definitely different and worth the listen.
For those bemoaning Katherine Jenkins voice - it sounds brilliant and does what it's supposed to do, she's very successful in her field. Blue Man Group are almost a group on their own. They are very unique and not the normal "rock" group or "pop" group that people in the comments seem to be boxing them into. To hear the juxtaposition between BMG and Jenkin's voice is great. It's very unusual.
Totally agree, technically correct but no charisma. The tempo is slightly slower to suit the operatic singing style. And a typical tv mix, all vocals at the expense of everything else.
Cute enough certainly but Venus did it much better. Blue man and the back up guys tried but this is a C minus overall. I'll go watch the many superior Venus versions instead.
I don't like the mix & the tempo varies settling on slightly slower. Very much a tv mix, vocals out front, all else buried. Plus the tempo is slightly slower to suit the singer but it throws everything of, including the musicians. All talented musicians but clearly a one-off version needing work.
I really dislike the trained soprano voice. It's unnatural and unsuitable for this song. I've never listened to a classically trained singer perform a pop or rock song without cringing.
Annette Strean, Venus Hum still did it better but holy cow, when Jenkins kicked it into overdrive it was pretty impressive.
Just an awesome voice and technically she sang that perfectly. However, Annette's version lets my soul know what the musical version of joy feels like.
I love both of these, but Annette is the better version I agree.
Amen.
@@Jan-S-Simonsen Agree - KJ sacrifices pure joy for technical brilliance. VH has the joy and personal connection and a great voice..
Wow.. what a fantastic way to put it. "the musical version of joy"... I like that.
My first time hearing this without Annette Strean. Katherine Jenkins does a great version, but I miss the joy on Annette's face when she sings it.
annette's joy is the best
Аннет просто излучает энергию и радость .🎉
When she hits them high notes my hairs stand. 😍
When Annette Strean of Venus Hum and Venus Hum did this, SHE ABSOLUTELY OWNED THAT STAGE, because she did it RIGHT. This pales. Annette Strean, I hope you will read this. Mitch
They have slowed the tempo slightly to suit the singing style. Plus tv rarely does good mixes, vocals too dominant.

Hi Annette,
if you read this:
your voice is gorgeous and your version
makes me an addict to this song.
opera star vs Annette's enthusiasm? I'll take Annette....
she's got a one hell of a voice
This is a pale shadow of Annette Strean's ( Venus Hum ) version which is even better than the Donna Summer original
We all know that Katherine is away from her usual genre here but she certainly has the voice range for this version. Combining her talents with the superb studied lunacy of the blue man group as "backing" is just brilliant. Its not a competition. Ok no disrespect intended here but when she hit the high notes that totally blew it. Venus hum with Annette is the best.
Agreed. I was just reading your post when the video had her voice go high and your point was nailed home flawlessly. I'm clicking-out and going to the Venus Hum version
You both fkn nuts....her high notes are the best damn thing
Sometimes people are just too good for stuff and this is one of them occasions.
Opera vocals with electronic rock and roll and African rhythm beat
Still fantastic but I prefer the version with Venus hum. More spontaneous joyful and happy
Is she actually a mezzo soprano? When she shifted gears, and engaged the afterburners, it was electrifying.
......but, she's never actually performed in a full opera
Yes she is.
Lovely, but Katy is just to perfect 😍
I love this version .
Venus Hum was better, But your vocals at the end WOW :)
If anything, Katherine Jenkin's voice is too powerful for pop, but this is pretty good, prefer the original version by Donna Summer, and also the live version with Venus Hum though.

@@curiositypiqued6573 Not sure about that, many opera singers have sung on pop hits, many pop singers were trained as opera singers.
Its a stylistic issue not strength of voice. Strean has quite a set of pipes on her and clearly her voice is not "too powerful". Its poor creative choices in this rendition.
Great spin, She can certainly sing. Also really like Annette Strean`s "Venus Hum" Version of this song. Check it out
Annette gets the rhythm far more than Katherine here. But Kathrine sure can sing.
Annette's is way better!
your so right Annette version is so much better
The Venus Hum rendition is much better in my opinion.
No
F no. Only one woman with an adorable infectious smile sings this. This is sooooooo wrong.
Annette Strean's version rocks. Kate did ok in the beginning but turned it into an opera
People need to stop calling this opera. She's never been an opera singer.
Super Venus Hum!!!
I feel like her voice changed a lot from the first verse to the second but she sounds amazing
Jacieciociu ciary mi chodzą po plerach, gdy słucham tego wokalu
It's *Opera Barbie* LOL! I liked where that was going; it seemed they cut short of its true potential.
The Beach Boys called. They want their Theremin back.
i'm feeling a bit of love myself
American Idol first round vibes.
Katherine Jenkins or Venus Hum? Life is awesome when you are free too make choices.
Like “Ginger or Mary Ann”.
@@Boris_Chang LOL I loved Gilligan's Island, As a teen boy I also struggled with Ann or Nancy Wilson of Heart.
Nice voice.
Search Blue Man Group with Venus Hum and see the difference -
All the glasses in my house just broke.
A knockout! Wow.
Different to Venus Hum , but great 👍🏻
its good, but her voice and version dont achieve the greatness of annette strean s performance as venus hum with the Blue Man group. Glad I heard it but I am going back to the Venus Hum version
Operatic ..but Venus so darn Cute

She didn't go opera as she is not an opera singer. She went classical.
@@bexie1992, fair enough, my mistake.
I agree, its too sterile, at a slower tempo and a bad mix, vocals too dominant. But Opera or classical ... whats the difference?
Звучит необычно оперный вариант, но предыдущие версии тоже неплохи привычней мягче.
Venus Hum For The Win
good but venus hum wins
The soprano section was contrived and out of place....is what Simon Cowell would say.
talent and beauty - probably 130 + I.Q - she's good!
Nicking Annette’s idea.
* NICE * 👍👨🌎
She's taller than Annette Strean, so the dress looks shorter.
♫ Ooh, I see legs, I see legs, I see legs, I see legs, I see legs! ♫

Love Venus Hum, but Katherine’s voice takes the biscuit, and has the WoW factor.
HOLY COW
Annette's 10000000 way better
Like McCartney & Wings say Venus & Mars are all right tonight !
Venus Hum and Annette Strean were far better !
But the opera version was definitely different and worth the listen.
Donna Summer - FOREVER!!!
For those bemoaning Katherine Jenkins voice - it sounds brilliant and does what it's supposed to do, she's very successful in her field.

The BMG jumped the shark when they showed zero creativity and placed Jenkins in the exact same outfit as Strean only it was more svelte.
Doesn't compare to the performance turned in by Venus Hum
Annette strean all the way baby..
Прежняя певица лучше драйвовей и впечатлительней .А это оперная шняга какая-то.

Anette
Annette Strean, Venus Hum fait mieux l'a mis en surmultipliée, c'était assez impressionnant.
her voice is too classically trained for this song..
Completely agree.
Rather have a Humer.
Chasm
Makes me chuckle at all the people criticising. By all means show us that you can do it better.
Hot!
mini ladd
Amazing voice, but this just doesn't compare to other versions. For one thing, she seemed to feel nothing of what she was singing.
NOOOOOOOOOOO! JUST NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Петь умеет, но драйва нет, как у Аннет. Харизмы нет.
Muy buen cover. Hermosísima voz. Pero, demasiado vibrato para mi gusto.
Cute enough certainly but Venus did it much better. Blue man and the back up guys tried but this is a C minus overall. I'll go watch the many superior Venus versions instead.
brown eyed girl
Bloody sacrilege! Annette Strean is the ONLY one who should sing this in this format!!!!
I don't like the mix & the tempo varies settling on slightly slower. Very much a tv mix, vocals out front, all else buried. Plus the tempo is slightly slower to suit the singer but it throws everything of, including the musicians. All talented musicians but clearly a one-off version needing work.
Эх, не то
I really dislike the trained soprano voice. It's unnatural and unsuitable for this song. I've never listened to a classically trained singer perform a pop or rock song without cringing.
Flat, emotionless, just trained voice. Venus Hum rulez.
Venus Hum sang it better
penso che per questa canzone Annette Strean sia molto, molto, ma molto meglio, questa 👎…
Again the singer lips syncs! Just like Annette Strean.
She butchered it! Glad I heard Venus hum sing it first!
Nope, sorry both great but not together….maybe it’s just me?
I agree, the arrangement needs more work. And its at a slower tempo, maybe to suit the singers style, which imo throws the musicians off.
I still like Venus Hum better. Sorry
too much control and lack of emotion, and it didnt fit the song ! Venus Hums was better as you felt her enjoying it so much
Не кан.Ну ни как
que forma tan fea de descomponer una cancion . paraa mi la interpreta mucho mejor Annete
