      Hello.. same here. I've bought b9.. And I've read on rtings that the pre-calibration on this TV is very bad. But after the calibration, it even surpasses c9. But I'm a noob in all these things. So my question is from this video settings can I match my B9 calibration settings with the C9 ? Thanks.

  • @rlechters

    Your information and approach to picture setup on the LG C9 is exceptional. I did find that the defaults on any device - fresh out of the box were useless. On my C9 everything initially looked like "Video" and mostly very grainy. SDR for the cable provider worked well with the "ISF - Expert - Dark Room" with modest tweaks per environment. Netflix and Amazon Prime also worked well with "ISF - Expert - Dark Room" following the suggestions but this is where it required more changes to OLED, Contrast and Color. The original "Blade Runner" - 4K HDR DVD was very grainy on "Cinema" - "Technicolor Expert" was more natural as the original Film Stock, at the time, had more grain than current Kodak Negative Stocks. Apple TV defaulted to HDR and a "Picture'"preset that looked like "Video". "Cinema" was more accurate and appropriate here. I think everyone is going to discover differences that require learning the basic tools for "Picture Setup". It is a good suggestion that people generally stay clear of color management that get you in the realm of calibration. My experience as a cinematographer for 30 years - the picture quality is stunning with out it.

Hedge on OLED because of price and burn in. i listened to fomo tech. he mentioned olded are now at qled prices. i bought the cx 10 55" 3 days ago. now i see why oled is better. i wont got back and the Samsung q90t i just bought is going back but i wish i could keep it, because it's a quality tv that did an awesome job. and watch out Samsung is catching up to OLED level blacks. till they do i will stick with lg. i owned the q90t 1 week prior to switching to oled. • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  4 года назад +1

      Main difference between them is that Bright has Color gamut set to Wide by default to have more saturated colors in bright environment. You could copy settings from Dark to Bright or vice versa and have exactly the same presets.

    What is the consensus on using dynamic tone mapping for the HDR settings, on or off on the c9? Many reviewers seem to like it, but the more heavy ones (like rtings) prefer it off. Do you set it to off or on? On looks too bright, especially in game mode but do add detail in very bright scenes.
    Also, do you prefer using the RGB setting or 4:2:0 when connecting it to a Nvidia GPU? Activating HDR when setting it to RGB FULL looks exactly the same as setting it to 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 for me...
    cannot wait for the G-sync firmware update!

    • @TVguyDarko

    Hi Darko, thanks for this great video. Just a quick question...
    If I copy all the values of the isf (Dark Room) setting to the technicolor setting (for example), then these two modes would perform EXACTLY the same?
    I mean, is each mode the sum of its values? Or there are settings for each mode that we can't control (maybe hidden)?

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  5 лет назад +5

      To be honest, I think they would perform slightly different as their baseline white balance/color system is adjusted in a different way. But definitely a good question and I will try to investigate next time I have a TV from LG in my room.

      @@TVguyDarko many thanks on that. When I calibrated my Philips 55 7303 connected to a Windows PC I did the manual calibration with charts for every kind of image quality aspect (sharpness, contrast, gamma, ecc) then I did the fine tune with the iDisplay Pro Plus and provided software by xrite. As I'm a Photographer who print in a not so professional but good quality 5 inks printer I'm having great time in a color managed printing workflow getting many matches on screen to print and also to my LG G8 phone which "assuress" me I got a good calibration at least for what I aimed for print/web image creation. Hope to get the same results on the C9 because I love this panel quality but I'm afraid on not having color accuracy for graphic design and photography because you know this TV is pinnacle of picture quality and it's not definitely what people have at hands to see my pictures. I hope I've explained my point.

    I can pause a scene and turn it off and on, see things lost in shadow when I turn it to high, yet many reviews say leave to low.

  • @optimalsettings

    It's not a good idea to raise the brightness above 51. So you destroy the black referenze and will lose contrast and realt black. At the end you have a black like an non Oled. To see the near black pattern you better have to raise the low end of the gamma equalizer. So you won't lose black and also can see near black.

    Pozdrav Darko, hvala za odličan video. Zbog tvojih recenzija sam davno kupio prvu plazmu G20 i kasnije jos ST60... sad je stigao C9, pa molim za par savjeta. Naime, tv se najviše gleda navečer u tamnoj sobi. Dal to znaci da stavim postavke na dark room mod i gotovo ili na dark room mod zajedno sa tvojim prikazanim postavkama? Drugo pitanje se odnosi na HDR i Dolby Vision. Budući da najviše gledam Netflix koji podržava oba moda, dal to znaci da sa dark room moda moram prebaciti na HDR ili Dolby Vision? Koji od ta dva odabrati u slučaju Netflixa? Sorry, mozda je zadnje pitanje nespretno postavljeno, ali jos sam rookie na tom terenu i ne razumijem zašto se postavke razlikuju od sdr ili hdr prikaza. Smatrao sam da trebam podesiti postavke za uvjete gledanja (npr tamna soba) uzimajući u obzir materijal koji se gleda (u mojem slučaju najviše 4k, Netflix) i ne brinuti o hdr ili dolby vision postavkama jer ce to tv sam 'aktivirati' ovisno o materijalu kojeg stream-a. Vjerojatno brkam nešto pa bi molio kratko objašnjenje. Puno hvala

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  5 лет назад +1

      Pozdrav! Biti će dovoljno prebaciti na Expert Dark Room i eventualno podesiti gammu/TruMotion na vrijednosti koje ti najbolje odgovaraju. Televizor automatski prebacuje u odgovarajući mod kad detektira tip signala - tako kod Netlixa će automatski prebaciti na Dolby Vision način rada za HDR, a onda trebaš ručno odabrati predložak po želji.
      SDR i HDR postavke se razlikuju jer se radi o sasvim drugačijim tipovima signala, svaki sa svojom gamma funkcijom, razinama crne i bijele boje, rasponom boja itd. Televizor automatski prebacuje u odgovarajuće modove, samo je bitno da za svaki ulaz odabereš mod koji ti odgovara, odnosno koji nudi najprecizniju sliku. Primjer - na Netflixu gledaš SDR sadržaj i odabereš Expert Dark Room. Nakon tog prebaciš na TV program gdje je SDR materijal, no ponovno ćeš trebat odabrati Expert Dark Room jer su automatski svi ulazi u Eco modu. To je samo potrebno jednom napraviti i za SDR i HDR, tako da slika na svim ulazima bude jednakih parametara.

      Yes, but it is not really effective.

    • @Tomiply
      @Tomiply 4 года назад +3

      @@TVguyDarko It has actually gotten pretty effective on newer TV models. Before, it used to make things much blurrier, but nowadays, setting it to low can help a lot if you notice streaming artifacts. I normally wouldn't use any extra processing, but streaming artifacts can be annoying, so I sometimes set it to low. The reason why you can't tell a difference is because you tried it on frames that didn't have the artifact problem or you tried it on high quality content.

    I would like to invest in one of these tvs,the C9 would be more than likely my choice, but I would be to worried about burn in. I don’t believe one should have to “babysit “ a tv or worry about falling asleep after watching a movie or streaming something. I’m leaning toward the Samsung Q80R 55 inch.

    • @Leitefsj
      @Leitefsj 5 лет назад +4

      I know, right? I bought my C9 worring about that too, but image quality is second to none: colors and black levels are impressive! So, all things considered, I think it's worth the risk. And I say risk in a huge metaphorical way, because if you're aware of dangerous situations (like CNN logos, unnecessary game huds or unhealthy long TV sessions), you'll be fine. I came from a 9 years-old plasma panel, so I think I may be used to it. Also, LG has built in the TV some features designed to prevent burn-in. Maybe that's just me trying not to worry much, but I feel confident nevertheless.

    • @juanmccoy3066

      Im telling u right now the samsung is gonna disappoint. Forget the c9. It has a more "futuristic" look than the E9 but the E9 is the superior model.
      That samsung screen will break when u bump into it or put down a cup like i did. Seriously my samsung which i bought in 2018 brand new broke a few months ago cuz i set down a cup on the shelf under the tv. The vibration sent a huge black line going across my tv vertically. Now its rainbow colored. I just got the E9 almost got the C9 but the price being a little lower isnt even worth it. The E9 has a strong screen. The salesmen encouraged me to knock on it and slap it and nothing. No lights or hand prints. Spend a little more on that E9 and you will be fucking happy.
      The E9 also has really good sound. So u dont have to worry about getting that sound bar or surround sound for a while cuz the sound is just really good. U can jam to spotify on the E9 and it sounds like a decent car system.
