  • Really nice little 2005 Mini One (not and S) I picked up a few Months ago, I wanted to see the differences between the Super Charged and Turbo versions, and the stock 1.6 Petrol versions. So how do these little cheap cars compare to their faster Brothers?

I think you got a good deal. Just bought one of these myself 2004 and it's running great. Cost me 600 quid.

It wasn't the worst deal I have ever had for sure, it was more the fact that I didn't check for the clutch issue, it's something we should all do on a test drive really, but a decent car all the same. Thanks for your comment :)

Fairly certain you have a MINI ONE not a Cooper. Early Mini One's had a 1.4 engine but then moved to the 1.6 in yours, power I believe for both was 90hp, while the Cooper managed to squeeze a massive 116hp out of the same engine.
The give away, apart from badges, between the One and the Cooper is the small rear spoiler and black or white roof on the Coopers.
I had a 53 reg Cooper back in 2003 to 2005, great car, brilliant handling but the engine was the weak point, 116hp was just not enough and economy was pretty awful as well.

Yes looking back through the car check I did when I bought the car, it does indeed state "Mini One" so I have changed the title now, Cheers Paul :)

You mentioned about the different tyres you had on this, I’ve got a combination of winter and summer tyres on mine and the tracking seems a bit off and wobbly. I’ve also just had a red tyre pressure light on. Guessing I’ll need to change those tyres…?

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  Месяц назад +1

You should never have different tyres on idealy, and certainly not Winter AND Summer tyres combined! matching tyres will makre a huge difference to how your car drives 😁

I find my GF mini convertible pretty fun to drive they are decent motors. Bit of a nightmare to work on at times but not to bad , had to change the back box on the mini last month also done the thermostat and Radiator fan amongst some other stuff

So much fun on a budget! but yes agreed, bit of a ball ache to work on the engines, a lot of times it's easier to take off the front end for any engine work.

In December 2021, I bought a 2008 Mini Cooper - 1.6 Diesel for £850 even though its market value was £1,200 for a car with 145k mileage. Didn't check on the cambelt or when the clutch is replaced but seems fine for now even though diesel engines are noisy at times

Not sure if you’ve still got the car but I have exact same one just black and the clutch is the same I found out the actual bearing is to small for the car so it wears quicker the bearing is something you’d stick in a smart car not a decently powered mini £285 for clutch replacement for me

I got a 2005 Mini 8 months MOT 106 on the clock the other day and I know the guy was not telling me the truth and the logbook were in a female name, I looked it over and knew I could tidy it up and not a lot of work needed so I went for it, I got the new logbook in my name today so now I will start the job of tidying her up and look forward to doing a mini-run soon while doing little bits and bobs on her before I decide what to do next. I would have met the man to say worthier or not I would have gone for that one but it looks like a good little runabout!

I bought a 2006 Mini One Seven for £999 two years ago, and two weeks later I had to replace the clutch too! But mine cost £650 to replace...
BUT I still have it and still love it, and it's only had minor issues since.

They are great fun little cars, as long as you get a good One, there are plenty of rough Ones out there cheap, that can cost a fortune to maintain, a new clutch can cost as much ass the car! as can a new cam chain :)

Thats funny! We bought my girlfriend a 2003 Mini Cooper 1.6 6 weeks ago who had lost the logbook and everything with it. Conveniently lost it after we put the deposit down. I was so worried about the whole V62 thing he was telling us to sort out, it seemed dodgy as hell! We got the logbook a few weeks ago but the stress it puts you through is simply not worth it. He also gave us a bullshit story on how it was his girlfriends car. Funny, he had another Mini for sale the day after...

Yes I have seen a lot of suspect adverts for cars over the Years, especially on Facebook, where it always tends to be some pretty young girls selling her car, but knows NOTHING about the car, and all the photo's are set up like she's been selling cars for a long time, so my guess is it's the Boyfriends car, but he can't advertise anymore as he sold so many Dogs in the past, so gets his Girl to look like she is selling her car. Gotta be careful out there Guys :)

@@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes Tell me about it! We had the car serviced a few days ago and turns out its a lemon. Something to do with oil pressure and needing to take it directly to mini to fix, according to halfords autocentre that is. Still works and everything but ever since the service the oil light keeps popping up!

Not a cheap job, From what I know, it's around $1000! most of that is labour as it's quite a long drawn out process, I was quoted around $500 locally, but most others I have spoken to say that's way too cheap? 7 hours at $100 an hour plus parts, but if you can find someone cheaper then the parts are actually pretty cheap ($250)
