The entire song has it, and it’s just crazy how it took me this long to realize that

Celeste is the one game I don't get mad at.
This is the furthest from the other chapters for a few reasons. This time, you're not climbing up. This time, you're taking the route to a more, compact space. But that's not why there's less space to move. The place is central to the power of Celeste Mountain, and because of it, you'll need to be careful with your dash tools. The temperature rises and falls with your actions, moving platforms now slip under your grip, as launching blocks now crumble weakly. Flames that would halt your approach become ice steps to guide you through areas not before possible. Now there's Ice and Lava closing in, and you will need to learn to control the nature of this strange place. Discoveries wait inside...
For some reason, I seriously love the four piano notes that always play at the beginning. It's so atmospheric.
A great leitmotif indeed.
_...this is it?_
_This is what's at the center of all this?_
_It's so empty... and vast..._
_Yet it feels nostalgic somehow._
_And peaceful._
Sincerely one of the most cool, epic, and peaceful moments in all the game (and in all the story of the videogames!!) Owo

absolutely LOVE how this song uses the exhale motif
wow extremely good observation dude seriously
Wait what's that
いやNoa he’s saying that it uses the same melody as track 19: exhale (the one that plays in the epilogue)
@@herb2110 ohh yeah that's cool
Yeah! I was learning this by ear on the piano and the left hand is like the exact same with two notes swapped around. I actually laughed irl
This is all you could want from a final area.
You’ve ventured to the peak, but if you want to see the real secret of the mountain, the inner workings, a treasure more valuable than anything else so far, the mountain is going to hold nothing back. Your dash is changed, and random switches transform the entire cave. One second it’s a fiery inferno filled with deadly lava and bouncing magma blocks, all with active music. The next, it’s a calm, fragile icy cave, where everything seems it could snap at any moment, the wind blowing in the background, all the mechanics changed. Now the lava/ice is moving, and you have to be quick.
Until it all leads up to what you sought.
*_The heart of the mountain._*
Edit: So this comment didn’t age well.
This is such a lovely description of this area!

absolutely beautiful, the music really brought out the atmosphere of the game
Absolutely love how the theme is different depending on whether it’s hot or cold. Really brings out the creativity of this game and the composer of the soundtrack
not trying to compare anything but crypt of the necrodancer did it before
It reminds me back to CotN indeed. Nice to hear more of this.
@@vincentvalentine1877 crypt of the necrodancer is pretty much a rhythim game though, not a fair comparison
I agree, but Celeste wasn't the only game that did this. Banjo-Tooie and Mario Galaxy had hot/cold themes where the music changes, plus other games have their own inversion gimmicks with the same formula. The overall concept is creative, but it's easy to assume Celeste got the idea from other sources. But I will say Celeste handles the hot/cold inversion the best with all the tricky platforming puzzles.
just gonna be honest real quick, hot and cold are polar opposites, not sure if you can NOT make the themes different
Y'know, you could, really, realistically, quite possibly say that this is FIRE.
And ice. I think. Wait, no. It's fire now. OH F
You can say: It's cool..
The hardest levels generally have pleasant peaceful music that doesn't fit the difficulty at all, I feel that this can keep you calm and another game I've heard did this is dkc 2 in the level "Bramble scramble," apparently this is when the games difficulty kicks up a notch and the music does the same thing as in this level.
That's pretty much the only way I was able to stay sane during the C-sides for chapters 5 through 7.
it's supposed to be motivating
Chapter 9 as well. Calming pianos did the best they possibly could at preventing me from putting my switch through a window

*Beat the game*
Game: Hey, BTW, there's more levels.
Me: Please god no, I've already suffered enough.
**A wild Golden Berry has appeared**
You haven't really beat the game until you have done all the b sides, c sides, and Farewell. Once you finish all of those, you'll feel amazing at finishing the game. Getting all the golden berrys is actually torture, but you gotta beat all the levels for sure.
Artuigi 12 I think that (maybe other than summit) you should try to get the golden berries on all A-sides. B-sides.... yeah idk about that. And c-sides... I mean, if you want to.
@@mariasullivan493 It's actually easier to get the gold berryes on c-sides rather than b-sides because they are much shorter
You mean "Oh, God Yess!!"?
My second favourite level right after the mirror temple. the music here really added to the game play. Once the music picked up at the flooding lava section i was like "HOLY SHIT". Really great job at enhancing the danger in the atmosphere.
Rebin Go I was also really amazed at the moment the lava starts rising. It gave an epic tense feeling.
god, mirror temple was a pain in the ass, or at least for me
god i think mirror temple is really underappreciated. Its fs my favourite level, same with the b-side. The layout is amazing, and the portrayal of emotions throughout it is incredible
My favorite level is the hotel, without a doubt. It was kind of a pain to play through, but it also houses one of my favorite characters in video game history. I just got a lot of emotional vibes from that level, and I loved it. Mr oshiro isn’t kind of an a-hole, but you can’t help but feel bad for him.
mastering the art of controlling and using the monsters to your advantage is so satisying! Once a scary threat, now a toy to be played with >:D
Lena you really did something special with celeste. I can't stop playing it. This game changed me, I really thank you for that
Eclipse Gaming same for me. I can’t stop playing the game.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the gameplay of the core. When the heat cycle was on you could see the beautiful heat waves and when then cold cycle was on everything felt frozen and cold. The vibrant art style really made the setting stand out to me.
Also I really like how the game just knows how to put you in more difficult situations every step of the game. When I got 2 dashes I finally thought I was unstoppable until the core said, nope those dashes don’t replenish.
The music fits the location so well. It feels chill but intense at the same time! Even tho I just got into this game, the core’s music feels really nostalgic to me somehow.
Anyways, definitely one of my favorite areas in the whole game
Did the Core's music also feel peaceful?
> Also I really like how the game just knows how to put you in more difficult situations every step of the game
i think they just went ham with making levels and then sorted them by difficulty (unless you mean by chapter then idk)
the music reminds me of old flash mining games like Reach The Core, maybe thats why it feels so nostalgic
I love how you can feel the chill in the slow notes and the burn in the fast notes
it's incredible how that first note consistently sends shivers down my spine, what an incredible track
this song feels like the pervasive weariness of the passage of time. it's that weariness that comes about from realizing all at once that one is older and that the world has changed.
Oh the core is so easy just i use my dash all the ti.. *dies*
This is why speedrunning core is so difficult; you have to optimize it with the added limiter of not being able to hyperdash every 0.2 seconds.
These notes are two-handed! Those two hands represents ice and lava, which is awesomely made. İf you focus, you will hear one hand at a time(which shows fire or ice used). But these notes are perfectly made, that it gives a moment to focus and chill.
What I really love about this track is how it builds up the tension. Starting small, relaxed as the challenge becomes greater to finally end up with a finale, and rewards you with a quiet melody to tell you that you can now relax. All in all, perfect.
1:32 Ice
2:05 Fire
I almost can't believe how good the soundtrack to this game is. What an absolute masterpiece.

and then 3:30 hits oml
nICE (im not sorry)
Every track in this game is my favorite track.
Idk how this game did it, but i beat the entire game including c-sides and never once felt frustrated, in farewell i think i have over 9000 deaths, but that didin't make me mad, somehow this game made me feel more determined to win every time i died/cleared a room, this game did something literally no other game has ever done for me before
Yes! I felt pretty much the same way. I am starting to feel slightly irritated about the golden strawberries though...
@@masonfrandsen Yeah, was only able to get 2 after getting frustrated about my progress flying away
The way the game tallies up deaths - only after each chapter, and in a non-linear approach (from large steps of 100's of deaths down to 1's) - might have something to do with it.
There's much more at play here, of course, but that small detail adds up as you progress each chapter.
I loved switching back and forth in-game between lava and ice, watching the visual difference and the sudden-yet-smooth change in soundtrack. Blows my mind
If you like the fusion of synth and piano so much WHY DON'T YOU MARRY IT?!
...
Okay!
Everything about this track was done so beautifully, but the lava chase sequence has to be my favorite part.
"Wait... why can't I dash Anymore?"
How does this game nail music, story, AND gameplay?
Black Magic, man
@@pridemuramasa1820 BADELINCE magic you mean?
It nailed it because of awesome people working together. Of course, that wasn't the only thing they did to accomplish this, but it was essential.
The beginning of this theme gives me anxiety. It's so calm yet so anticipatory and longing. Absolutely amazing soundtrack
ok but the bass drop though 3:30 and especially 4:10 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I do get nostalgia from this, because somehow this reminds me of those lava and ice levels in super mario galaxy.
Edit: And oh my god this gives me goosebumbs, it's so good.
Axicity freezeflame galaxy ? Especially the third star where ice and lava collide
Idk how but Celeste music has become music I listen to when I want to calm down
Considering what this entire game tackles, I'm not too surprised this OST has that effect.
spent a whopping 633 deaths on this level. all of them worth it
Bro. It was hard. Good thing the music was too tho
My dude
1.1K here. Probably would've been better if I hadn't taken a break after chapter 7 haha.
@Audrey Hester yeah.. i got 250 deaths on this level, first playthrough
even more interestingly, I died almost as much on my first A side run as I did on my first B side run
After the bass line kicked in while i was playing i said "yup Im finding out who composed this masterpiece" good job. Thanks for the music
Probably my favorite from the OST. Bass grooves hard
Only this game can make such a traumatic experience.
It takes the one concrete tool that has always worked the same.
It changes element constantly.
But you still

emotional banger
i guess thats just all of the celeste ost now that i think of it
This is hands down my favorite ingame song in terms of it dynamically changing seamlessly, and the OST version too does it justice
You did an absolutely wonderful job with this music. This track is the sole reason this stage is the only fire level I don't hate. Fire levels in games are usually so... well hot, that I can't stand them. But the music for the fire form of the level was so perfectly done it never gave off that hot feeling.
Combustible Lemons And it'll give you a chance to cool down occasionally, too.
@Combustible Lemons so without the music, you'd combust, right?
This might seem a bit off topic, but one of my favorite 2D platformers when growing up was Donkey Kong Country Returns, specifically the Volcano. The atmosphere and the music there is unlike anything I had seen before in 2D Mario. That world defiantly installed some early childhood fear into me. Few years go by and I get my hands on Tropical Freeze, and seeing what the Snowmads did to DK's island was crazy.
So you can imagine how excited I was when I saw that they had not defeated the Volcano...
Why do I bring this up?
Because that is exactly how I felt when I saw that Celeste Mountain had a flaming heart. When I first entered and saw the fire and lava, I genuinely stood up and started going crazy excited. Just when I thought the glory that was this game was over...It was obvious that it was just getting started...
Best Game Ever!!!
This soundtrack is the one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. The transitions between the cold, icy and almost space-ish atmosfere to a hot, flaming, eletronic explosion. I love this level (even thought it's frustrating AF) because of this dynamic change between moods. Congratulations Lena! ❤
This song just keeps getting stuck in my head. I love that gentle melody on the piano, and how it translates so well to aggressive synths too. I love all of your music for this game so much, my goodness.
what I dread most, celeste as a auto scroller
The devs couldn't decide whether to make this a cold or hot level.
I think it's fascinating how I just can't find anything to hate in any of the celeste sound tracks
This one is so damn cool! I love how it builds upon itself so seamlessly. Instead of the beat changing, new beats are layered on top of it, and yet it doesn’t sound repetitive! Easily top 5 for my favorite Celeste tracks
I love the entire soundtrack but this is probably my favorite A-Side.
Incredible soundtrack, all of it! Congrats Lena.
So happy i can now listen to it outside of playing the game as well.
First 3 notes
There was an idea
i cannot overstate the quality of the craft here
Is it just me or does this music give off Super Mario Galaxy vibes? It really starts to sound like it halfway into the buildup.
Yee
It sure does; this soundtrack gives me the vibes from the Freezeflame galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy 1.
I like that Hollow Knight prof. Pic
This one kinda reminds me a bit more of Metroid Prime.
SMG seems to be a massive influence on Celeste. Along with Meat Boy.
Best track by far imo

3:30 MY FAVORITE
This song...So nostalgic.

An underrated song for an underrated stage. Really though, this is probably my favorite stage in the entire game!
I haven't enjoyed a soundtrack this much since FEZ...amazing!!

No, I'm just saying FEZ was so great...and this is just as wonderful. It's nice to have so many great artist sharing there gifts!
WallyRocket 87 birds cool was just recommending a game though. Nothing about FEZ
Both FEZ and Hyper Light Drifter were composed by Disasterpeace. Now you have a name to look them up with.

After a long day of work and college, this ost really helps me wine down. Just great and very well made.
Perfect for the game too!

Well, Madeline DOES say to Theo “I drink, mostly” at the start of chapter six...
The juxtaposition of this theme being the center of the Celeste Mountain and the level that is between Summit and Farewell...is fitting. It's like staring at your soul and wondering why it's so blinding and incomprehensible.

I love this song! especially when the bass kicks in :D
the only part i hate in this song is at 6:22
Hell yea that bass is incredible. First time i heard it i was like wow
That sequence at the end where you have to switch between lava/ice rapid fire without stopping is one of my favorite stretches in the game. It’s so exhilarating
tbh my favorite OST in the entire game
Honestly o e of my favourite tracks in the ost
Good luck with any future projects
the fire part gives you a feeling of being confused, you don't know what's going on, your different part hasn't appeared yet, and the lava gives you an air of fear and imminent danger. while ice. There is a feeling of sadness, loneliness in a cold place, fear is still imminent, but everything is calmer and colder (I hope I managed to explain what these melodies from chapter 8 convey to me) (in case the translation is weird and because the translator I use is kind of weird from time to time.)
Gives me some epic Metroid/DKC vibes. It's truly an amazing soundtrack.

ok
i definetly understood everything that happened in this chapter really well
Is there a way I can like a video twice?!??! This whole soundtrack is too good, I have been listening to this nonstop every week for about 4 years.
This is one of those weird things in games that I forget about because it was overshadowed by something. In this case, it was Farewell. The design of the is level was pretty cool though.
3:30 is when i had to stop and start bouncing up and down in place
I remember dying like 500 times and spending almost one hour on one room (the one were you need to be launched in the air, turn to ice, and the jump on the jellyfish) just because I didn't know you could jump on the jellyfish, it ended with me looking at a playthrough of celeste for the first time and realizing how stupid I were
Jellyfish in core? What?
Isn’t it ironic that this particular song from the OST, which is a lava/ice level reminds me of the Freezeflame Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy?
How is that ironic
This theme and Freezeflame theme share similar things, one being the music that continues, but changing pace, instruments as you change between ice and fire
not ironic at all
