  • I decided to change things up a bit and take out the shotgun on a grouse hunt. I grabbed my single shot 20 gauge break action shotgun and hit the road hunting ruffed grouse and spruce grouse.

    This is sorcery. I go out for a full day looking for birds and get none and see a whitetail. Went out the next day for whitetail, no deer, but saw 5 birds amd didn't wanna explode them with the .308. I have bad chicken luck. And you're blasting them basically from camp!

    Great Video Sheldon! Im wondering if you typically see more spruce grouse then partridge? Here in Maine we see moatly partridge every now and again ill see a spruce grouse but we cant shoot them in maine. Cant wait for the birds to be done!

      It all depends on where I hunt. We have such a diverse ecosystem in BC. Where I was hunting this fall, I could be hunting in a low lying swamp and seeing mainly spruce, drive 15 minutes up the hill into the populars and willows and see mainly ruffed grouse, then drive another hour and be in the mountains seeing ptarmigan and mountain goats.

    Like your work! Using your 22,what is the average shot distance? Also ,do you always go for the head?

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks! It's typically 15 to 40 yards and we always go for the head. Body shots don't kill them right away, makes them suffer, some get away and it ruins quite a bit of meat.

    What kind of bullets did you use for your 20 gauge?

    • @BuickOutdoors
      @BuickOutdoors  8 месяцев назад +3

      Federal game load. 2 3/4, 6 shot.

      @@BuickOutdoors Exact ones I was using at the end. First year I've hunted with a 20 gauge shotgun. Unlike you I miss a lot haha. I switched to a improved cylinder choke and now I'm having much more success but I still miss about 1 out of ever 3 shots I make. I find that if they're moving and running away I typically miss.
