    The Ruck Shop rules!! Great video! I installed the same NCY 171cc Big Bore Kit that I purchased from the Ruck Shop for a great price! This video was an excellent step by step guide for me to install my kit and it answered all of my questions. Much Thanks and appreciation to Ryan and Kevin for their professionalism.

      They actually did ok. But whatever you do. Do more research. After literally hundreds I will never waste time trying to fight with the piston half crammed in the jug to install they were lucky they didn’t have trouble. Just load the piston start cylinder down studs then you only fight with the rings only. And the A12 cam is strictly a low end torque cam with a loss on the top end. And the lift is very close to stock just with a different center line. They did do fine. But definitely need more experience before giving instructions

    Hey thanks guys I just got my 171 big bore kit in your video really helped me out? One thing I know that’s not n your video that you didn’t do that is I recommend is dropping a little bit of oil in the bottom of the cylinder body and then the top of the cylinder body and work the piston back-and-forth

    Thank You for your Tutelage. Ilearned more on this one video than on all the videos I've watched, combined!! I have an 80cc engine that had the Spark plug tread got stripped on the bore, and I would lose compression, and the engine would stall and shut off at stops. I don't know why or how it happened. I need to remove and replace the Bore and was not sure if I could do it. Now I can safely say, that I can positively do it and be on the road in no time. Again, Thank You for the Video Keep them coming!!!!

    When doing this, please don't forget to put assembly lube on wrist pin, cams, lube cylinder before putting a dry piston in and running it up and down dry several times. On first crank up, its going to turn about 300-400 times before oil gets to piston and cam. Easier to install g-clip in on one side before pushing the wrist pin in too. As always, all your videos are very informative and educational. Thank you for telling everyone about the bolt size reference on torque specs. Also, I am assuming the since this is a complete kit, that the ring gaps have already been checked at factory?? Keep up the good work, will be ordering mine after Thanksgiving.

    • @Theruckshop

      good practice. the rings are pre-gapped and we have checked the on 50 installs. assembly lube good point but remember your motor will smoke on start up till it burns off so hopefully people know this

      I have on very similar. But you can’t be accurate just slamming it till it beeps. I promise those head studs have a half round to go before torqued. It hasn’t even pulled the spring out of the gasket yet when they never pulled slowly a second time or third? I have to stop watching. Very nice guy’s. They will probably do well I just wish they would study before giving instructions.

    Very interesting and thank you for such a professional demonstration. I have a 2016 SYM HD 200 Evo (171cc motor) now with 10k miles. My bike runs silky smooth and it still looks brand new as the day I rode it away off the dealer lot. So yes, I do change the oil at up to 600 mile intervals max. Maybe that's a bit over-the-top frequency but w/o an oil filter on the GY6 the oil does get very dark at about 600 miles or so. I do all the other fluid changes myself too. I let the pro scooter guy at my local shop (Seattle Scooter / Cycle Center, Pete) do the serious adjustments and stuff. I am not a gifted scooter tech.
    Question: Why are there two oil drain plugs on my GY6 171cc? One on each side down below? Also, should I continue to do a full oil drain removing both plugs for every oil change? Am I starving the engine when remove both plugs? Should I just do one side at a time? I'll stop rambling now.
    Thanks again for your professionalism.

    This video is absolutely amazing, all questions answered with visual proof. I don't have a Ruckus but looking forward to doing business with you guys for my 150cc Tao Tao engine upgrade. I was wondering if the process will be as easy (no boring) installing a 180cc?

    • @Theruckshop
      @Theruckshop  6 лет назад +2

      its the same kit we would just do a 171cc a 180 is just a crank but we really do not see that much more difference with a 2.5 crank and you have to split the cases. not worth the gain for the amount of work in our opinion

    • @Theruckshop
      @Theruckshop  6 лет назад +3

      sorry the 180cc is going to require boring of the case due to its 63mm piston. the crank is the same. i would recommend doing just the 171cc and make it simple. our 171cc gy6's down here are beating 180cc all day.

    • @boccaccioboyer1140
      @boccaccioboyer1140 6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for getting back to me on this. I already have a 26 mm carb, would this be ideal for the 171, or would you recommend a 30 mm? Also what jetting (pilot and main) would you guys recommend for the 171?

    • @Theruckshop
      @Theruckshop  6 лет назад +2

      i would say either a 28mm or 30mm and we usually start with a 115 main and 32 idle. air mixture screw all the way in then a half turn out. start with the c clip at the bottom and work your way up until you find the right setting for the carb.

    • @boccaccioboyer1140
      @boccaccioboyer1140 6 лет назад +1

      Again thanks for the great advice! I was wondering if you could clear something else for me? I am getting a lot of confusion on whether to change my stock air filter box out (mine runs under the seat) for a so called performance filter (uni). Are people just having issue because they aren't up jetting the carb. or what?

    Watched your video then ordered the kit to find out that it was too large to fit the bore without boring out the case. Guess I need to get one they milled down to fit the 57.4 bore. But I did install an A15 for added torque. Before it was about 32MPH at the top of one hill and now it is closer to 40MPH BUT Starting up a hill without a few grand RPM is very slow...Cant get out of my driveway with out a good run at it. So ordered an A8 to maybe get a good start...With the 3 I will decide which works best in these hills...The standard would do about 52 top end...the A15 does about 56 but is slow getting there. The torque should get two of us up my hill...The standard would but now it is slower at the peak with just one rider...Odd

      You shouldn’t. It’s only for hills and pulls. The lift is pretty much stock with a different lobe center line. The A 9 is the top end cam. I’m not truly sure on it but it’s also mostly in just the center line. But it’s way more aggressive mid and top end.

    Stupid question, but having a larger bore, wouldnt it require more oil in the block? After i installed the kit, I've got a ticking sound? Tripled checked all adjustments and specs, fresh oil change with 750ml 10w40 and everything is on point. Any ideas?

    • @Theruckshop

      Salty One big bore does not mean more oil . If you have a bigger cam it will tick . Make sure your valves are adjusted and remember it's a fresh too end everything needs to seat.

    • @claudio67362

      I have noticed the torque on the head is really important,also take into account the thickness of the base gasket and the metal gasket,in case you like to spray it with copper spray or copper silicone...The valve lash clearance should also be considered..i guess as a general rule your intake could be 0.06 mm and the exhaust 0.08 mm..The ticking is hard to tell you from here..but make sure your valves are not making contact with the piston..The gy6 150 cc takes 850 ml when it is new,750 ml when changing the oil from there on...10 w 40 is fine,adding some stp oil treatment helps a lot..I have used it consistenly .Ranging from 25 ml to 110 ml depending on the temperature..If its cold use 25 ml to a quart of motor oil,or anywhere in between.Motor oils are deprived from Additives nowadays,that is why they are so cheap.And this is not coming from me but From the API engineers..Most of these gy6's have a metal alloy that needs oil in the SE,SF or SG API category,not SM or SL like most oils nowadays..You can be buying the same quality brand you bought for years getting great results,but if the bottle says API service SN you are over paying for it,,there is a lot of debate on this,but mostly because many are not up to date..The ZDDP is down by half or more in most motor oils..So be wise and try it for yourself,especially when breaking in your new engine..I have a gy6 150 cc chinese scooter,it is 4 years old and has 23000 miles on it.The smoothness is comparable to any japanese scooter and the performance as well..I make food deliveries and have been putting
      Literally 500 miles a week lately for the last 4 months for 3 to four hours non stop..and then 3 to 4 hours in the evening..I live in Florida and here is where you need to know this very well.Especially on an air cooled scooter..For a big bore kit i would recommend up jetting the main jet,and the pilot jet in case of harsh starts and back firing on deacceleration..A free flow muffler is a must,and the exhaust valve at least 0.08 mm if not 0.09 depending on the clicking..I installed a fan to cool the valve head and i put from 5 to 10 cc of Lucas fuel treatment per gallon in regular gas to neutralize the ethanol and raise the octane as well as keeping the carb,spark plug and valve seats clean.I recently removed the head of my 170 cc oil cooled head after 5 years of intense use including trips of up to 50 miles non stop on the high way and could not believe this engine looks ,not only clean but it works like when i bough it.i use the air box and it works perfect.i never have to clean my carbs,it is a great combination with the lucas added in gas..High octane gas also lacks more than 50 percent of additives nowadays...Adding 10 ml lucas to regular gas will work excellent..I hope this helps..I have had 28 motor vehicles,including scooters from 50 cc to 650..Suzuki burgman..A few years ago i rode my Suzuki burgman 400 from Palm Beach To NYC..and i can not wait to do it again,best ride of my lifetime..I am planning to ride across the U.S and Canada hopefully this coming summer..

    if I buy a cheap €40 61mm big bore kit it won't fit unless I bore out ? but your kits just slot in yeah ??

    • @Theruckshop
      @Theruckshop  7 лет назад +1

      That is correct because the cheap 61mm one have thick cylinder walls only the NCY and Taida are slip in cylinder kits they use thin cylinder walls for drop in

    I am installing a 155cc bbk and an A9 cam. do I need to replace my valve springs to a harder springs to reach a higher rpm?

    • @Theruckshop
      @Theruckshop  7 лет назад +2

      nope stock ones are fine. the 155cc has nothing to do with hitting hight RPM. That is your weights and even then we have never seen anyone hit the rev limiter on a gy6

      Why do you insist on getting higher R.P.M on an air cooled engine..That does not make sense...I use 16 g rollers..light contra spring...32 pilot jet and 105 main jet..make sure your spark plug is not white(Lean)...Adjust the air fuel mixture screw until the spark plug electrode is kindda brick color...i get 40 mph at 4000 rpm..and my engine is never hotter than 100 F even.in summer days...Add 10 ml of STP oil treatment in 10 W 40 motor oil and add a mixture of lucas gas treatment and 2 cycle marine oil..penzzoil is the one i use..the blended one..3 parts of lucas to 1 part of 2 cycle oil to lubricate the top ring..Add that mixture from 10 ml per gallon and increase up to 5 ml per gallon if needed..i usually add 2 to 3 ml to a gallon..87 octane is perfect...

      vince denimarck yes there’s a 6mm and 8mm but if you got the exhaust from us it will work on both . Don’t tighten the header all the way . Install the header then the bracket bolt muffler to bracket loose and tighten header and muffler on bracket little by little each time till all 3 are tight

    • @vamountainman2512
      @vamountainman2512 3 года назад

      I know this is from a while ago but to hopefully answer your question. From my experience, did you notice how they appeared a little loose on the piston pre install? When you go to slide the piston into cylinder you will need to squeeze the rings down just a tad to make it fit and as it seats into the cylinder it forces the rings into the correct gap

      if you said 50cc to a 80cc or 100cc would be reasonable... but you can dream to get it to a 171cc lol buy a 150cc gy6 engine those cost 200€ will be cheaper then upgrading a 50cc to 171cc .. if that even is possible...
