Ok, answering the question about what I know about Vanuatu, before watching the video (and without Googling). It is an island nation in the Western Pacific, south of Solomon Islands and west of Fiji. It is comprised of several volcanic islands, including Espiritu Santu and Tanna. Tanna has an active volcano which is a tourist attraction. The capital city is Port Vila, which is a tourist hub and cruise ships dock there. The people are Melanesian. Not sure of the population, but I would guess less than 100,000. I think it was a French colony at one time. One of the traditional activities of Vanuatu people is jumping from a tower with a rope made of vines attached to their ankles. This was adapted by AJ Hackett, a New Zealander, to become bungie jumping. There is a remote village on Vanuatu where the people worship Prince Phillip (as in Queen Elizabeth's husband) as a god. I think another region of Vanuatu does the same regarding Captain Cook and many of the villagers there name their children "Captain Cook". How did I go?

0:50 I know its flag immediately by heart, its name by heart, its next door to New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands, and is sometimes considered to have one of the more hostile attitudes toward people coming to visit/vacation there of the Pacific/Polynesian island chains, for which I've never cared about myself and been somewhat hesitant to believe. I don't know why, but I've always been drawn to Vanuatu throughout my adult life. Maybe its because they're so unknown by even many geography nerds. Their flag is one of my own personal favorites. I genuinely do not see much if any differences between Polynesian and Melanesian peoples and cultures, so to me, they're all just Polynesian, plus poly meaning more than one/multiple further backs that choice up. I had no idea the Hebrides was Vanuatu! See, that's new to me!
I've been to Vanuatu 🇻🇺. I arrived the day after an eruption and port Villa was covered in black powder! The currency at the time was coloured beads you wore around your neck. I saw most of the island and some neighbouring also.
This is so cool, I picked up a bit of interest in geography a few months back and learned all the countries (or 193 UN members) on a website called Seterra (old school, nothing flashy but is perfect). So now I see this video uploaded and I'm like Vanuata? I know where that is, I know what's next to it and therefor I now watch this video to learn more about Vanuatu. If I didn't learn all these countries recently I think I would just skipped it. So learning....is fun? Someone should've told me that before I dropped out of high school lmao.
I totally agree with your intro. I made a comment in your community section yesterday about not knowing about it and the weirdos on the internet found a way to be offended over the slightest thing as usual. I literally said ''no shade'' but that didn't stop them.
I'm not sure if anyone is gonna see this but kinda still wanna post it here. It was in 2010 at Shanghai's World Expo. Me, an elementary schooler, and my mom were wandering around at the "Pacific Countries United Pavillion", and we bumped into the Vanuatu section in the very corner. It was a small place with only some pictures of the country and very few visitors, compared to some larger sections with fancy animal specimen. And only two staffs were there, one Vanuatuan and one Chinese assistant. They saw us walking into their section, and passionately handed a bag of gifts to me. I expressed my gratitude, but I didn't stay in that section or even talk to them. However, when I returned home, I discovered with surprise that there were a full set of fish postal stamps, a banner of their national flag, and a little book introducing their country. I felt guilty for not even talking to them, listening to their intro, or maybe just exhibit more curiosity. I started learning by myself more about the country, and have always wanted to visit the country. I just want to let the Vanuatuan girl at Shanghai Expo 2010 know that she has spread very positive image into a Chinese boy's heart, and let anyone from Vanuatu know that you have a friend who's passionate about your country in China. Thank you!
The only thing I know about Vanuatu before watching this video is that they exist, they are part of Oceania, how their flag looks and the fact that their national football team is probably the best in Oceania if we exclude Australia and New Zealand so it's great that Barbs exists :D
Very interesting, thanks ! For the friendzone segment, New Caledonia is still a part of France, so techniiically France is the best friend of Vanuatu !
As someone who studies both biology and linguistics, I have made lists of languages in all of Oceania. There are only 125 extant (still living) languages in Vanuatu. As for the species, Vanuatu actually has quite a lot of species entirely endemic to the islands, some of my favorite actually being lichen species. Edit: I should also point out that there is no such thing as that "Vanuatu Iguana". That's a Fiji Iguana that was brought to Vanuatu and they live there now, but Fiji is very adamant on keeping its native iguanas in Fiji.
OMG! I'm getting so excited b/c since I found this site I've been waiting for 3 years for Venezuela and we're on one country away - Vatican City, then Venezuela!
I remember first learning of Vanuatu in my anthropology class in college, when my professor showed us pictures of the native Vanatuans with blonde hair, she made it clear to me and my class that "they are not Hispanics".
The New Hebrides Condominium was known sarcastically as the New Hebrides "Pandemonium" because the dual system with overlapping instututions created endless disputes over jurisdiction between the British and the French. But as neither side wanted to give up its influence to the other, so the Condominum was kept in place.
Technically America does have a slight relationship with Vanuatu but barely. We don’t really get that many immigrants from them although if they do Hawaii tends to be their landing spot as it’s multicultural and has a similar climate to their country. America only has a relationship with Vanuatu through Australia and New Caledonia.

In Port Vila, there's also one of the University of South Pacific campuses, an interesting intergovernmental institution.
Honestly, the only reason I know about Vanuatu is because as a californianI have those earthquake alert apps and there's almost always a quake there
This seems like one of the most unique countries. A very interesting video.
Thank you!
Well a 7.3 earthquake just rocked Vanuatu
Yeah
One rocked Japan too
First time?
we're used to those ... our structures are built to withstand them
The only thing I know about Vanuatu before watching this video is that they exist, they are part of Oceania, how their flag looks and the fact that their national football team is probably the best in Oceania if we exclude Australia and New Zealand so it's great that Barbs exists :D
Solomon Islands would like a word about football.
Happy to learn this series still exists. Just happened to be interested in learning about this place and was greeted with a familiar face
Wow, this Jakie boy turned out to be very wholesome.
Very interesting, thanks ! For the friendzone segment, New Caledonia is still a part of France, so techniiically France is the best friend of Vanuatu !
What an obscure yet beautiful country!
Indeed 🇻🇺🇻🇺🇻🇺🇻🇺🇻🇺
I knew 4 things about Vanuatu before this episode:
1. The capital is Port Vila
2. The flag
3. The famous bungee jumping
4. Survivor Vanuatu SLAPPED
As an Australian, I would love to visit all the Pacific Island nations!
This show has been so helpful, because it helps me with geography.I really needed that information.💖💝
Thanks for this great video about Yanuatu!
Greetings Vanuatu from Romania!!!
👋😁🇷🇴 🫶🤝☝️🇻🇺☺️✨️Blessings🙏😊
Fun fact: The name bislama comes from beche-de-mer (sea cumubers).
True
So sad that this series is reaching the end, but love from Canada

OMG! I'm getting so excited b/c since I found this site I've been waiting for 3 years for Venezuela and we're on one country away - Vatican City, then Venezuela!

Great video! Loved it! One day I´ll visit Vanuatu
Have been watching from the Bangladesh video, amazing journey cant believe we are almosta at the end 🇻🇺🇧🇩
I remember first learning of Vanuatu in my anthropology class in college, when my professor showed us pictures of the native Vanatuans with blonde hair, she made it clear to me and my class that "they are not Hispanics".
it's wild how Hannah was totally in the video and Art left so early. Also Hannah looks and sounds way different, and has a green shirt, how weird
America does NOT have a relationship with them. And Vanuatans move to Canada. Not the US. And Hawaii is white. Not multicultural
I am ni-Vanuatu recently visiting Florida - USA is awesome. We both drive on the right side of the road and I had the chance of a lifetime to hire a Dodge Challenger and drive it around Florida - except for the gators,, loved it much like home

That river is bigger than THE Joradan river (well, not as long as it, but much much wider).
I'm sure Venezuela is gonna be interesting to make, especially because of the recent referendum concerning the Guyana Esequibo Territory
1:25 WRONG Red Line Melanisea... Its Include Australia, Moluccas Arc (Indonesia), Timor Arc (Indonesia)
Their national bird's name "Vanuatu Megapode" literally means "Bigfoot", lol.
Vanuatu, been waiting for this episode for a long time now. ❤😂
Much love from PNG.
Been there while working cruise ships! Great place!
Yk if the country's biggest problem is the fact that Natural Disasters happen, than Vanuatu must be a pretty swell place.
A very interesting country, indeed! What a great video so I can learn about it Vanua-today!
Been watching your channel since like you started it. seems like you’re slowly getting closer to the end, will you then do unofficially recognised nations? Mars geography?
