  • You can store sequences of notes on the Lumina and play them back triggering each note in turn with mallet strokes or up/down pedaling. This is called "step sequencing". By assigning different sequences to different bars - or mallets - things can get pretty crazy, as shown here. Mallet independence anyone?
    I use step sequencing in my arrangement of Freedom Jazz Dance ( • Marimba Lumina Classic... . Here are some moments to watch for:
    The initial statement of the melody is played "au natural"
    8:50 I'm using the foot switch (down and up) to trigger the syncopated bass/piano comping pattern
    9:00 Pitch bending (a la episode 1)
    10:00 Step sequencing the melody
    11:00 Alternating the sequence with drum strokes
    11:30 Alternating the sequence with C Jam Blues
