Great Review. Totally agree. I saw this movie in 84, loved it then, but I actually like it more now. Terrific time capsule. The two leads have great chemistry. Great 80's movie.
I would have to say that in the 80's and even 90's high schoolers were always portrayed on the screen as far more adult like and advanced than teenagers could ever be.

Photon City News this was my favorite movie when I was 9 in 1993 saw it on USA up all night they showed private Benjamin at the time recorded a lot of episodes on a Friday night I was 7 in 1991 when I recorded the talk show episode and kept recording until I was 13 in 1998 when USA up all night was cancelled 📼
Great review. Agree with most of it. But why don't reviews of this movie include how awesome the soundtrack is? They only ever mention "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". The songs with Bobby Caldwell, Chris Farren, Amy Holland and produced by Don Perry and Bob Summers demonstrate everything right about 80s music.

It's everyone who's NOT spending the night in a metal (steel to be specific) building into dust--and partially protected people become zombies.
Also Robert Beltran basically played Chatoay the same way - boring w/not much personality.
Over the years I’ve imagined they came across several other survivors, like military personnel that were in a submarine at the time the comet ☄️ went by. I don’t know what military tanks are made of but maybe anyone in a tank at the time also survived.
