    Thank you for documenting your progess. Its encouraging! That tip about going out when a lot of wind is key. After 2 sessions (in low) wind i realized i need to do that (or get a bigger wing). Not on foil yet but I will keep trying!

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  Год назад

      thx for your feedback ! Light wind is only possible with good technique. When you start lack of technique has to be compensated by more power in the wing. You need 18kn with a 5m² when you start...
      Try to find a boat that can pull you so you can focus on the foil, once some control you can add the wing.
      Don't forget to enjoy the learning journey ;-)

    NIce to see your progression. i have had two short sessions on the water; my knees are raw. LOL I think i should have started with a larger board. I kitesurf but no foiling experience. I'll get it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

      your weight +30-40 kg is ideal start volume... taking smaller wil be difficult in beginning, but you'll keep your board longer...

    I am 83 kgs. Getting ready to buy a 110L f-one with an Armstrong 2050 cm foil and 6m wing. From what I read foil will be ok. How about the board?

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  Год назад

      110l is a good volume to start (if you have some board experience and are a fit person). People tend to start with too small boards, this slows down the learning curve. After some time you will probably go for a smaller board, but I would give the advice to take your time to learn and not to get frustrated. Enjoy the learing process... mastering the foil is the hardest part.

    Very nice to see your progress. Long time windsurfer, no foil experience. My mistake turned out to be not going on flat water. I thought as long as I learned to stay upwind and waterstart I could learn on choppy water. That was wrong, flat water most critical to getting up on foil gradually with time to learn to make the small adjustments to stay up in control.

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  Год назад

      staying on the foil is the hardest part... we learned more than 5Y ago with kite. It took 1 year to master the foil. (with solid kiting background)

    • @MrBogfrog
      @MrBogfrog Год назад +2

      I've been learning exclusively in chop, and am finally starting to consistently get up on foil after a WHOLE YEAR and upwards of 50 sessions! I started with absolutely no board sport or foil experience. It was BRUTALLY difficult. My stubbornness is the only thing that got me through it.

    Mooi om die progressie te zien! Ik wil zelf ook gaan beginnen maar we hebben alleen een redelijk klein meer hier met beperkte wind. Wat kopen?. Downwind board om makkelijker op foil te komen? Maar deze is dan weer erg instabiel? Thx

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  3 месяца назад +1

      beginnen met normaal beginners materiaal en eenmaal onder de knie ander materiaal kopen. Voor binnenwater moet je ander materiaal kopen dan voor de zee. Voorzie een grote foil die snel uit het water komt.
      Die downwinder planken zijn heel smal en niet aangepast om op te beginnen, maar ze zijn wel top voor binnenwater. Ook een grote foil met grote AR helpt enorm. (terug niet geschikt voor beginner)

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  2 года назад +2

      We are already kitefoiling for 4 years, so that helps a lot. Getting on the foil is the hardest part... this lake is 'gavermeer' Harelbeke in Belgium. We live 10 min from that lake... most wind is very anemic and irregular so in fact we have mostly bad conditions... with a big foil (2100cm²) and a big wing (6 and now 8m²) you can really have a lot of sessions, even on a shitty inland lake... (but most people don't want big foils and wings and are vary negative about them...). Other spots are 'aan de Plas' in Brugge or the north Sea, but 85% is on Gavermeer.

    Great videos - did you learn on your own or take lessons?

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  2 года назад +2

      We learned on our own, but we had a solid background in kitesurfing, kitefoiling and surfing.
      If you don't have a watersport backgroud, I would advise to take at least take some hours of foiling behind a boat... once you control the foil the rest will come by itself...
      And start with the right gear on flat water...

    Nice compilation! I'm learning to wingfoil right now. I am at the stage where I am trying to "float" the foil. What would be your best 3-5 tips at this stage? My front-wing is a low-aspect 1700 cm2 size. Is this size ok for me as a beginner?

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver  2 года назад

      this size is intermediate (some will say this is big)... ok if you have wind (>15kn) and are not too heavy... I started with a 6m² wing and and 2100 cm² for 68 kg. But on an inland lake with very light and irregular winds. With more wind you can go smaller. i'll think about the tips and post them later...

      @@tonolegarda9919 here's the 5 tips...
      1 - it’s easier to learn with high wind conditions than low wind conditions
      2 - start if possible on flat water (lake)
      3 - start on a bigger board (80l is really small to start)
      4 - feel how the wing behaves on land, learn how it's feeling is and do this using the different handles.
      5 - be patient 😊

      @yannickver  Год назад

      Hi Hendry, we had a solid background in other watersports like kitesurfing and kitefoiling... this speeds up the learning proces.
      The hardest part is to control the foil: try to rent/borrow a boat and let you pull behind it untill you can control the foil and have stable flights.
      Only go on the water with the wing when there is a lot of wind when you start. (>18kn) You'll master the lowwind later.
      don't forget to enjoy the proces ;-)
      Yes our spot is flat, and that's the only good point about it. Most of the time we have anemic and very irregular winds... and algae ;-).

Last 20 years intensive Kitesurfing, and last 5 years intesive kitefoiling practice... the foiling background is most important I think... didn't have to learn the foil control. Hi, sorry for the late reply... your question only popped up 2 days ago... (YT bug)
      I don’t realy have a preference, I like both. The big advantage of winging is that I can practice it on an inland lake where I live, this maken it for me possible to have a lot more sessions in one season. Winging also improves my kitefoil skills, better board control. The more you practice, the better you will get and the more fun you will have.

      Hi Reinier, this is partly filmed on the Gavermeer (85%), north sea and St. Pietersplas ...
      Speed is much less than a windsurfer, on the big foil max around 30km/h, small foil max about 36km/h.
