Everything in this update has improved Sonic Horizons by like 10000% and has only increased the potential of this fangame even more, the movement seems so smooth, so fluid and so free! Not to mention the high speed and the use of camera angles even the music and sound effects are awesome! if the sequel of Sonic Frontiers and future games have this as a basis I will be so happy even if it's just for traditional 3D stages
@jacobweatherford4696 I don't judge, if I didn't follow the development of the fangame on social media and saw gameplay like that I would also think it was something official, which is a great compliment because it's very well done
@@collinsokoye6352 it's not really better as shadow gens and this fan game have a different play style. The homing attack seems nice to use in open environments but with any precise platforming it seems finicky
Sonic fangames do this the best, I hate hate HATE how Frontiers and Shadow Generations to an extent stops all your momentum when hitting a homing attack.
@biomseedcombat in frontiers would be better if the attacks also helped for movement, bouncing from side to side to constantly disorient the enemy would be great for a basic attack. also in cyberspace since there's no conbat, there's even less excuse for a delay. And for shadow gens, you can only doom blast specific enemies anyway so the delay for other enemies is unnecessary.
Because that's how it should be. If the homing attack accelerates Sonic in the direction of an enemy, the only natural resolution of that bounce is for it to redirect his speed in the direction it hits the enemy, not stop him to a halt, that's lame as all hell
you don't really realize how much weight camera movement has in a sonic game until you see a ton of fangames do nothing with it. the zoom outs during loops, backing up the faster you go, and cinematics look great here, very excited to see what people do with this.
I've always hated how the Homing Attack sends you up and interrupts your speed. I love that in this fangame, the Homing Attack doesn't interrupt it, it just makes it more comfortable and satisfying to play.
Man I love the boost and how it can be a blast moving through stages at top speed. It’s an entire spectacle in itself. But seeing how smooth chaining different actions is and how quickly you can pick up speed if you know what you’re doing just looks so satisfying! I just want to see Sonic have a more flexible and in-depth move set that allows him to move through complex level geometry in an official game. Anyway, this fan game looks so fluid; I love it and nice work.
I really like this game, as it looks like a really fun take on Modern Sonic games. But if I had to be picky on something, Sonic's silent. I wish for voice clips to be added in the future.
Yeah! I noticed when playing sonic dream team how fun it is when the characters are reacting to the space, or when you can hear sonic having fun haha It really pointed it out to me just how valuable voice clips are whilst playing imo!
If im honest with you, i don't want voice clips in a fangame never more. Sorry if i sound like a hater, but a lot of fangames use the same clips of Jason and Sonic is all the time like: WOO, GOO, HA! COOL.
@@ChristianCastro-it9qjtotally, if anything i’d want them to find a solid voice actor- not just a friend with a semi good jason impression, like some fangames do, but someone with their own take on sonic…
1:33 They did with the homing attack what I've been wanting Sonic games to do with it for ages now. Allow me to keep/gain momentum while doing them and after I'm done. The momentum killing after each hit that the main games do is something I've never liked and it just makes me want to spam boost or something just to keep up the pace after I land or finish.
Mapping the roll and the drop dash to the RT button is actually genius. Great way to build momentum without having to charge a spin dash or holding the jump button to do a drop dash. Also, RT + B for spin dash? Perfect. 👌
I know this is an unhealthy expectation. But this is how I think frontiers 2 will play. Shadow generations is already similar and that was made by a B Team.
This thing blew me away when i downloaded and played. Controlling sonic feels so natural and rewarding, chaining his actions together to create a seemless stream of speed. Its not like hitting a boost button and turning the brain off, theres momentum involved which puts you there in the moment, being creative of how you want to traverse the level. Speed isnt just given to you, its rewarded. And this was done on the Utility engine. This is something SEGA, hell; a handful of developers can get behind and make assets and stages from.
@@TwiliPaladin Yeah it was Great aside from some animation blending oddities but they worked for the Classic Style they were going for, it became an issue when they used the Lost World Skeleton for Modern Styled games where even Shadow Gens suffers.
The level design is good and the physics look good too. And the music is also nice 👍However I guess my only complaint would be that I'm kinda tired of the slopes being perfectly smooth, I would like some bumpy terrain occasionally because this feels kinda like a racing game rather than a platformer
I love the fact that you used Modern Sonic as the character for this. The homing attack is also perfect, but It's just one preference of mine that i think could use a little tweak and that's the transition from roll back to running. I think once you tweak that, It would look more realistic than the lil delayed action that we see right now. However this shit is fire. I love it. Keep going !
Spin dash mechanic is great. I like how Sonic is kinda bouncy after a homing attack. Great animations. But I think Sonic gets way ahead when he gets speed and seems a bit light when moving at low speeds. But top tier work, keep it up man
This is gorgeous, only complaint is Sonic’s run animations. Seems like a minor nitpick sure but maybe make his feet go a little faster when he reaches higher speeds. Amazing game though, fantastic, just me being autistic
The movement looks really fun, and the way you use the drop dash to gain speed as well as rolling down slopes feels like such a natural evolution from the way it worked in the classic sonic games, without it being super uncontrollable. I really like this control scheme! If Sega decides to ditch the boost in future games, I think they definitely should go this route.
Sonic Roboblast 3D This is literally exactly what I want out of a Sonic game. Just give it actual environments, good story, banging soundtrack, and it would be amazing. The gameplay here is nearly perfect. If I had one complaint it would be that he looks very stiff while grail rinding. I laughed out loud when he was completely upside down on the big loopy rail and barely moving lol
This is excellent! Honestly, great job I do have some nitpicks tho I think the sound needs to be punchier in general. Rail grinding to have a rougher sound Louder bassier wind sounds Just generally, louder and more flashy really. Other than that, no complaints I love the homing attack and how you keep momentum after hitting an enemy The bounce attack being there All of it
I gave up on the open world because I’m not good enough to do it, far too much work that I both can’t do and don’t have time to do because of school, so I figured instead of releasing a garbage open world that ruined the game i’d rather make some good levels with a hub world ala shadow gens, easier for me to handle with studies on my back
I feel like with how momentum based Sonic’s movement is they shouldn’t keep any open world levels, it just feels kinda janky without them making his movement really snappy
Get this person a job at Sega, please! Also, if there isn't already a boosting section, please add the ability to boost like in the main games. With how well this has turned out so far, I know you'll make boosting amazing!
They decided to change their approach, I'm pretty sure they're going with a more structured stage like thing now but still having something a little more open.
This is how 3D Sonic should look like. I mean, Sonic's gameplay has always been based, not on speed, but on gaining, maintaining and controlling speed via momentum. And this fangame nails that and seems to translate it to 3D pretty well. Simply love when fans got their shit together better than SEGA
Wait… is this not the gameplay from Sonic Project Hero? Did Sonic Horizons take inspiration from it? Because I absolutely love these smooth and fluid movements!
One critique I have about this game; I'm not sure how the gameplay allows for level design featuring waves of badniks. In Sonic Forces, eggman has control over the world, and has millions of badniks across the globe. In the gameplay, this is shown as chunks of 5-15 badniks placed all throughout yhe levels for sonic to blast through. To a lesser extent, this pattern can be seen in Sonic Gemerations, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Unleashed. But this game, as great as it feels, demands an open space for Sonic to run around in. He seems to be going too fast for attacking bunches of ground troops, which Eggman would likely use if he was targeting literally anyone other than him and even including him. Sonic has no boost here, he can't just blast through them. He has to homing attack, which launches him really far. Maybe he could spindash into them? But we don't see that happening in the video, so I cant give a full opinion on that yet.
Its really cool, but Sonic needs to speak. Definitely the best Sonic fan material I've seen, but him being so quiet is like when X-men sewed Deadpools mouth shut.
Imagine if SEGA were to give us a playable new human shaped android in a new sonic game as they did with adding shadow in sonic adventure 2! A green-aura fake human as a playable new original character much like with introducing shadow! a robot with an anime human appearance that is as fast as the hedgehogs, a green aura like how SEGA did with shadow and his orange aura, an ability that lets him temporarily shatter reality around him like a shatter-space by using a new BLACK Chaos Emerald with the ability being called Chaos Shatter!
