- The Keep + Dinosaur Jr. collaboration is now available at www.keepcompany.com! This extremely limited project was produced in an edition of 360. Designed by J Mascis and using Keep's desert boot Shaheen silhouette, the Keep + Dinosaur Jr. shoe features a deep violet, vegan microsuede body and an embroidered guitar strap accent patterned after one of J's own straps. Each pair will come with a 7" picture disc, featuring J Mascis' warm and ethereal cover of Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You". This track has never been released to the public until now.

In pulling this together I just discovered that a bunch of my newer favs put out an album called bridges where they cover one of my old favs [(like his and Patty's music kept me from suicide in HS...good times:)). New favs cover old favs? I'm in a Twilight Zone Episode.] This might all change. That's cool. If you aint changing you're dying (Rusts never sleeps after all and/or It's better to burn out than to fade away...not a sermon just a thought). I wonder if the title has anything to do w/ his then wife's school? Yes! The album was made from a benefit for the bridges school. The album is titled Bridges and a must listen if you haven't already. Standouts for me based on a very quick sampling: Victoria Williams-Don't let it bring you down, Lips-After the Gold Rush, Bongwater-Mr. Soul, Pixies-Winter, Sonic-Computer Age, Kaiser-Words.
This is why I also love their Just Like Heaven cover. Also, Smashing Pumpkins’ cover of Landslide is also such a success in the same way

Great new take on a classic, but the original is impossible to top IMO. Hope Sandoval's vocal had this element to it that was hard to identify but impossible to forget. A combination of melancholic hopelessness, apathy, and a hint of a southern drawl.
Love this version, but the original is one of my favorite vocal performances ever.
J.Mascis understands and feels pain here..really gives a solid and respectful performance..the band follow suit and deftly take flight with him..

Although I am a long time Dinosaur Jr. fan (especially of their older stuff), I didn't know this.
But this might be their best cover, although they usually do them great.
Actually the only cover done by Dinosaur Jr (at least out of the ones I have heard) that wasn't greater than the original (but still great) was J. Mascis' cover of "No good trying" by Syd Barrett (with Soft Machine as backing band, Syd Barrett's original version that is).
This cover is definitely better than the original, though not bad either, but Dinosaur Jr. really brings the best out of this song.

I didn't knew he did that, that must be one of the only records I don't have from them...Jay nailed it, and I think also because he was touched by the lyrics & vocal style...I always considered he was doing some kinda "Sentimental Grunge" & all his solo career proves it imho....Sure I'm very attached to the original, but he could have written the song (& nice solo at the end), Another cover song that fits him well is Just like Heaven...
