Love some dumb titles. Some years ago at an artist gathering everyone was asked how they usually come up with their titles. Some have clever wording, deep meaning or a personal reason. For myself most are on the fly working titles that accidentally get misspelled and kept at some point throughout the process.

A Glacier Eventually Farts is a song about imprisonment and resentment. Thats why it includes "and dont you listen to the song of life" in parentheses. Its mithrix's resentment for being sealed up in the moon. Mithrix and Providence might be millenia old. But they're still children lore-wise. And the power of soul was Providence's power.

To me it's an epic reversal of the reference song. It's not a hopeful "there may yet be happiness down the road if stick through things"; no, there _was_ happiness for those on Petrichor V and you knew it....but you had orders. Now you lie imprisoned in the void way down below, where the skies are always dark and dreams will never grow. You don't deserve to hope, but you do so because you have nothing left to cling to, and so you traverse the depths, hoping for a way out, perhaps knowing it will never come...
_...the ROR lore is deep, and should you see its face...behold, it is frozen._

The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky is one of my favorite ROR2 songs. The song will rise in the drop back down in octaves as if you're constantly being let down, and then it gets somber; like a realization that you're alone. Even in the video Chris posted, when that lonely part starts, it begins to rain.

  • @TriVisionTriesAgain

the area that this song plays in has a profound story, its title is the "Aphelian Sanctuary". Aphelian is a spin on the word "Aphelion", defined as "the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is furthest from the sun." This area is a run-down place marred with an infectious tar found throughout the game that we find through lore and item entries followed the Aphelian people from their home world to petrichor 5 after completely overrunning it. The area is also infested with vermin found throughout the game, a sure sign of long abandonment, and lack of care. All a result of the ending of the previous game.
All of this coincides with the discontent, unfulfilled, and still solemnly hopeful sound of this music. This song and area are the farthest point of being from the light, and the deepest into the void, but, eventually, all does eventually reach its perihelium.

It's worth noting that the tar is also present on petrichor 5, and was probably introduced there by an infected Aphelian. Specifically, tar enemies like clay templars and clay apothecaries can be found in the Aphelian sanctuary, indicating the tar found the Aphelian in their sanctuary and overran it. Clay people are already there in RoR 1 and you can see tar coming out of their pots, which would mean that, at least this time, it wasn't The Survivor's fault. Still tragic

The oboe at the end really really gives that melancholic touch it almost aches to hear - like someone is reminiscing the past or something, and combined with the Over the Rainbow ref, it could be someone remembering their childhood or how things used to be long ago and for some reason have been lost.

I definitely agree with the feeling of melancholy, but I also get a sense of triumph and defiance in this song. In the beginning it feels like that melancholy is building until the airhorns kick in, they break through and light up the song, kind of like a hope and defiance to whatever lies beyond the trials and tribulations we face in this mortal coil.

To me this entire song is phonetic representation of what it feels to feel bitter part of nostalgia, back then You were naive always curious child who had extremely unrealistic (kinda distorted) image of the world, but now here You are, You see and know world for what it is. And specially 6:47[I'm not crying at that sound, YOU ARE! 😭] , that always sounded to me like choir, choir of past genereations that tell You "Don't worry child, we've been there, we know it's hard to take" and by the end of the song it feels like You just became part of this eternal choir, echo, a lullaby of bygone time.

Personally, this song is the culmination of an entire journey, from its start, with the whole path between, and to the very point it ends. It tells me a story inverse of the one in the game; not of someone who lost who they were by the end of their journey, but one who cut their journey at its crescendo, choosing to excise the cancer caused by a world unknown, infectious, and corrupt. It's like... someone who refuses a world of flux, constant change, and impermanence, but with dignity, conviction, and reason; and most of all, with faith.
The last section is bordering on heavenly. That calm oboe, playing almost on its own; it's that passing between a world of hardship, into that dream of heaven. Into that lullaby we were once told.
I have heard more beautiful music; but I have *never* heard of a more beautiful story.

What I think makes this piece really shine is how it connects to the game.
The level that you hear this song on is a temple in the sky; but the temple is ruined and empty, alone. The song acts as story telling (in my opinion) to act as a way of showing how the ancient civilization that use to reside on the planet use to have high hopes and expectations only for them to be let down; it is also from the DLC where you are introduced into to the Void, a prison of nothingness, gloom, and darkness, many were kept prison into the Void, some broke free, some overcame it, most did not, and only became subject to it's corruption, perhaps the reason for the civilization's fall.

if i remember correctly the entire game was made by 3 people and just one of them made the whole soundtrack
just everything about RoR2 is amazing, i sunk so many hours into it with my friends during the (sickness that shall not be named) lockdown

i LOVE Chris Christo's work so much. this specifically has to be one of my favorites. (you speak in a beautiful and calming tone btw)
I would love if you checked out one of his other works, Hemolysis, from the DEADBOLT soundtrack. That one reeks of a tragedy.
Or, for another game, check out Reprise, from Outer Wilds (incredible game)
