  • I’m sure I’m not the only person who has been massively impacted by Jim Steinman’s extraordinary music.
I recorded this FCOL last night on Smule - and perfect timing - it’s Jim’s birthday today!
In my family, when it’s someone’s birthday we share our favorite stories, memories, jokes, etc about the person, as part of our celebration.
So, in honor of this tradition, I would like to share (quickly, I promise) how his music impacted me and my life -
2020 was a really rough time for me. I won’t bore you guys with details, but I will just say that, even though I’d never want to relive the turmoil, I’m grateful for it. Had I never gone through it, I would not have had the desire to find an outlet in Jim’s music the way I have.
I have always been a fan of his music since childhood. (Ex: Streets of Fire soundtrack was played pretty regularly at our house In the weekends - haha)
The game changed for me in 2020 and it left me craving something far beyond listening to his music.
That is when I stumbled upon the Smule app!
It was being advertised on TV. From then on, singing into my cell phone for countless hours each night, became a ritual I am so thankful for.
I wasn’t aware how much I missed singing (I had not sang since college 19 or so years ago - save the occasional friends wedding or random karaoke nights).
And even greater, I also was made aware of how much I loved to sing Steinman!!
    And I LOVE it, truly.
I started and couldn’t stop! And I learned a lot about myself through doing it!
“For Crying Out Loud” is the first song of Jim’s and Meat Loaf’s that I was obsessively singing on the app.
Now, if we FFW from fall 2020 to fall of 2021, I had been pulled to the song again, didn’t think much as to why, either. So, of course, I started singing it again. After singing it, over the last few weeks, I realized that it was about a year ago that I began to sing anything Steinman I could get my chords on. (Don’t ya love when things go full circle?)
It’s a rabbit hole I’m still falling down and it’s thrill!
(There’s always something magic, there’s always something new 🖤)
    To Jim,
You’ve taught me a lot, two of many specific lessons below:
“There’s always something shattered, when there’s something breaking through”
    and
“when you really, really need it the most, that’s when rock and roll dreams come through”
And for that, I thank you!
I always wanted to write you a REAL thank you letter from the bottom of my heart, this will have to do - for you, from me.

@@LaurenBradleyGivingOffSparks I'm absolute game. I have done stuff on Smule. Will have to wait a bit as I have a nasty cold and my voice is shot to hell. I'd be up for giving a few of the Meat duets a crack. All Coming Back, Paradise, Couldn't Have Said it Better, I'd Lie for you, Dead Ringer etc. x

I’ve waited for this for 40 years! “For Crying Out Loud” is my all-time favorite song, and it holds a sacred place within my world. Through Meat Loaf’s performance of the original, Jim Steinman drew vital emotional blood, and with it he painted the portrait of a soul utterly consumed by devotion and passion, desperation and near madness - an exquisite illustration of the power and infinite potential of love! I thought it was beyond impossible for anyone to do even the slightest bit more with the song, until now - UNTIL LAUREN BRADLEY JUST DID THIS! Her performance is nearly indescribable! For certain, that has a lot to do with her astonishing voice, but it’s her profound connection to the song and life-on-the-line dedication that elevates her delivery to the highest level imaginable. I’ve always held that with FCOL, if you don’t go all in, don’t go in at all! Lauren is as “all in” as one can be! I won’t even bother comparing her tribute here to all of the other FCOL versions out there - there is no comparison, there is no second place. And it took me almost no time at all to know that this is not just my favorite of Lauren’s performances - THIS IS, INSTANTLY, MY FAVORITE (DARE I SAY, THE BEST?) PERFORMANCE OF ANY JIM STEINMAN SONG - COVER OR ORIGINAL! When Jim died earlier this year, I was almost paralyzed by fear that his music would die along with him. Lauren has proven that that won’t happen - Jim’s music, his passion, his grand vision lives on through her!

Bryan, as I mentioned on IG - I took a screenshot of your comment and sent it to my mom (who was extremely excited and thankful for it). 😂 This is truly the best love song of all time!! And yeah, for that very reason, it did take some soul searching to get to the connection I wanted!! I’m just ecstatic that it shined through! Thank you for this tremendous comment!! I am really so thrilled when I read these comments and see that you and others are enjoying these. Like I said on IG, if I had to find the perfect response to you and to anyone else who enjoyed my interpretation of this beautiful melody of Jim’s, it would undoubtedly have to be, “For that, I thank you.” & “For that, I serve you.” ☺️

I just discovered your channel tonight. Which also led me to Smule to discover your other gems. I rarely comment on social media but felt compelled to leave you a message. I have been truly stunned by these performances - in particular the Jim Steinman works. Like many othes - JS and ML, as well as his many other collaborators, have been the companions in my life for the past 35 years and losing them has been tough. Your passion and respect for the music is commendable, and watching these has been very emotional. You are a fantastic talent, and I wish you all the best. You have a new follower in me and I very much look forward to your future recordings. This particular song was my favourite and you covered it beautifuly.

One problem: For the life of me I can't figure out how a lady's jeans burst apart. Unless it's weight gain.
Please can you post recordings of "Objects in the Rear View Mirror" and "Tonight is What it Means to be Young". Two other favourites of mine. Everything song you do is 24 carat gold.

Hi Lauren, I recently read that some songs should only be sung by a male voice. As one who was initially skeptical that anyone could adequately 'cover' For Crying out loud...especially not a female voice..*smiles*..But since it appeared on my RUclips home page, I thought that I would give it a listen to. And I was pleasantly surprised that you could not only cover it, but lead me to the belief: that once I heard Lauren Bradley sing a 'cover' there is no need to listen to anyone else sing a song that she would sing. So, hey, maybe your an exception to the rules: that only guys should sing certain songs!
But on the other hand, maybe because I have always prefer a female singing voice to a male voice: maybe I'm prejudiced. But then again, I am a philosopher who likes to look at all 'sides of an equation. And I think that perhaps, we maybe unknowingly are judging songs like we judge people: maybe not looking at the beauty of the song or person, but judging superficially by appearances or expectations....and thereby miss so much of the beauty of a song or person...cause we're comparing 'it' to someone else....which is a battle that we can never win.
Sorry if I went on and on. And I'm not making any judgements as to how people think. Just offering philosophical comments! *smiles* Bri

This masterpiece appeared on my RUclips home page, again. so, I felt that I was destined to listen to it again. And I think that we can safely say that Lauren Bradley now owns the song!
Wishing you a happy new year that I'm sure will be filled with many good things, musically speaking! *smiles* Bri
P.s. I'm often amazed at how Jim Steinman can give us such beauty, then he takes 'it' to another level, like with the last 2 minutes of this song. Chills appear listening to you sing those last 2 minutes. And maybe it's like I'm listening to the song for the first time, and I hear your voice just soaring majestically: chills appear! *smiles*
