- In a world of comic book investing, comic book speculation, FOMO after any new announcement and just spending money on the top 10 list garbage, I am focused on buying key comic books to build an incredible comic book collection 5 books at a time. If you just had these 5 books in your collection you would have a pretty cool eye catching collection in my opinion. These books can be expensive, but if you come up with a plan on how to save up for these you can achieve them. They can also be affordable as well. Cool keys do not have to be expensive keys. Foundational Comic Books is a phrase I came up with to describe Universally Recognizable Key Issues. These are comics books that will increase the overall appeal and value of your collection on a broad basis. Obviously you want to collect what you like, but there are a lot of influential people that will tell you to buy 'Hot Books of the week'. Those comic books are fine, but they might not be recognizable to everyone or increase the value of your collection long term. Be weary when it comes to anyone telling you what you should buy.

I just purchased ASM 100 the day before John Ramada senior passed away. It brook my heart. I loved his art.
ASM 38 was the first spidey i ever bought as a kid for 12 cents. Never looked back.

ASM #100 remains a VASTLY underappreciated book. I still have my off-the-rack copy and a lovely, perfectly-centered VF/VF+ copy. Many years ago, at my peak of gathering, I had 9 or 10 copies of it....and I kinda wish I still had them....!!
I love 100 as well. This is probably only the 4th copy I’ve owned, but I agree about his special it is.
Amazing Spider-Man 122 is my favorite Spidey cover ever! Also, the first comic I spent $100 on.
122 is so epic. I actually love 119-122. Those are 4 awesome comics to own and pair well together

Never spent more than $100 on a comic before but I just opened a savings account for ASM 1. Got to grab AF15 (restored), FF1 and ASM1 before they leave my price range!

Foundational AMS 50, 100, 101, 121, 122, 129, 194, 238, 300 will get you a solid foundation to build off of.
Is 101 really a key in line with the rest? Lol
#252. I bought two copies off the spinner rack just after the magazine guy filled it. Both pressed and graded cgc 9.8 five years ago. News.

Avengers 11 isn't really Spider-Man. It's a bot built by Kang.
Actually ASM 122 was expensive during the boom. A CGC 8.5 was going for around 600-800 bucks. Even raw in 4.0, this book was well above 300. I was searching for this book and finally found a raw 8.5 for under 300. This book has seen a drastic drop however, but was ridiculously overpriced for a while during 2021-2022.
Correction: This book is still ridiculously expensive in high grade just by looking at recent eBay sales.
