Is he saying that ALL St. Benards are supposed to drool and slobber a bunch? If so it would have to be an outside dog for me. If I get me an inside dog I don't want it to drool and slobber all over the place. But I don't want a small dog either. As for ways to improve the St Benard, find a reasonable test that a dog of it's type should be able to do before allowing it to compete in the adult confirmation class. Maybe some kind of draft test. Not nessasarly a draft competition, so much as can it move this certain weight for a certain amount of distance,or something. And maybe can it find a lost person. Just some kind of pass or fail test that it should be able to do. Then after the dog passes its allowed in the show Ring.
To me working line means the breeding program focuses on maintaining the dogs ability and willingness to work while still keeping type. While to me the breeder being interviewed here focuses on the show Ring to much.
