I'm a crafter not an artist. I don't sell. I am weird and enjoy art marketing videos. I find them fascinating and love yours. I saved up and went to an art show in VA Beach VA. I wasn't going to buy anything expensive and at that time in my life expensive was over $50. I looked at a painting with some mixed media elements. I came back and looked at it again. The second time the artist described her process to me. I still remember it. I bought the $350 piece and it is still on my wall. I would have regretfully walked away if she hadn't talked to me.
Great post! Its very similar to the time when music videos began. Many musicians were against making music videos, saying the are musicians, not actors or actresses, and in time those who didn't embrace the change fell to the wayside. Music videos became a huge movement, a way to connect with their fans, a way to tell a story, and gave music lovers an easy way to find new artists. Its the same type of movement, except this time it involves all artists, not just one medium.
Nailed it! Putting yourself out there, though uncomfortable at first, can lead you to places and people you never thought possible. It's an adventure for sure
This video is like a pep talk from your most trusted friend. I am one of those that is trying to raise my prices but when I do nothing sells and I need to replace the invested $$ to buy more supplies. I am working at that confidence, but only when I am willing to work as hard as you do will I get there. Thank you again!
I agree with this and sometimes interaction makes a difference. Art videos with the artist in them get my attention faster as one example. You have nothing to lose by at least trying.
Great video Lisa! 😆 I would also say, besides putting yourself out there you also need to come across as genuine, confident yet humble. Confidence in your art without a giant head ego. You can have the same type and level of art, but if you under charge the customer/client feels as if you don't have confidence in your art, so why should they be confident in buying. yay 1st like & view 😉
You know what Lisa, just when I think you've taught me so much, you put out another video that teaches me so much more and more to the point, life long important information. I'm not at the stage were I'd be selling art, I have a while to go but I love doing the reviews. There are loads of excellent people doing reviews on RUclips that aren't getting the views I'm getting and I've often wondered why. But I think you just explained it, I think because I let people know about me and my background, that allowed people to build up trust in me and so when watching my reviews they know I'm telling them exactly how I feel about a product and not what a company wants me to say. Thank you.
Well that and your reviews are very complete. So many of the others out there don't do much more than show the box and say "these are good". Your reviews and videos in general are great!
Wow Lisa, thank you so much, that means so much to me coming from you. When someone you have followed and learned so much from acknowledges what you are doing is good, it is mind blowing, I can't tell you how much that means to me. Thank you.
It's hard to listen to this. It's all true and I am lazy. I've recently felt (since I'm not selling as much) that my art isn't worthy of a decent price. I cringed at some points here because you hit the nail right on the head. Being a good artist isn't going to get the works sold, being a good marketer is. It means going the extra mile, but doing what works. Thanks a million.
I'm not so much lazy but I'm put of a guy cause he got me mistunderstood thinking I was charging 500 when I was 150 then 100 I cause hes getting strange about money .he started saying yes neighbour IS an artist ..I'm doing he's pets and already put money in it ..I've told him to think about it .but what really sucks .this is the best art I've done but he just doesn't no my art ..sad this art madness xx
i sold some of my art on my facebook wall... I never thought that they would sell, because I only wanted to show them what I did. I had offers immediately
Lisa, you have covered the complete circle of "How to become a successful artists" in your hundreds of videos. You have been discussing for the past years about how one need to be a great business manager and also a great artists. If I listen carefully to the great art work that is speaking to it's intended buyers, I may hear a faint and frustrated phrase of "buy me, please by me". This is not a parallel, but when I want a good 'fast food' chicken sandwich I will go to a well known chain restaurant that always greats me with a smile, serves me quickly, and makes me feel special. I can get a chicken sandwich anywhere, but I chose them. Art is a luxury, and those who want to purchase a work of art would like to purchase the complete experience and feel a little special. Again, Lisa, your words of wisdom are so correct.
👋 live your perky attitude! I probably heard this info before but never stopped to let it sink in. I’m now at the point of pricing my items to open online and will take your point if not just selling art but behind the art as well. Thanks for sharing and posting.
Well okay but what if the artist is old, fat, has bad teeth and socially awkward? I notice every single artist "who puts themselves out there" is slim and has a nice smile. Some things like weight and teeth are incredibly difficult and/or expensive to improve. Making a living as an artist seems to be only for the pretty people... I personally have a very determined stalker who harassed me for years, eventually got me fired from my job and would likely continue to stir up sh*t -- if they could find me. Now I try to fly below the radar. I understand that it helps greatly to "put oneself out there" but what about the people who either can't for safety reasons or lack visual appeal?
Maybe if you feel like you don't have "the right looks" and/or are socially awkward, you could do videos that shows you working on your pieces while talking, rather than videos of your face? I'm not happy with this video either and the advice that we have to put ourselves out there, and our art is not enough in itself. I have social anxiety and this is enough of a challenge for me that I lean towards putting my whole dream away and forget about it. I know it's probably true, that people pay as much for the artists immiage and persona as they do for the actual artowrk, but the whole idea of putting myself out there and marketing ME, just brings me into a cold sweat....
Another thing you should know:I and at least two other people I know of on RUclips have created art promotional videos (video exhibits) that DONT show the artists's face and body to the camera (I do this to remain anonymous online). To do this all you have to do is put your pictures down on a clean floor or table and POINT YOUR CAMERA DIRECTLY AT THE PICTURES ONLY and GIVE A TALK ABOUT THEM.You can show your art and you dont have to appear on camera at all.
I think this is the opportunity to heal yourself, be stronger and upgrade yourself. It's hard, it takes time, need alot of patience, need to go out of your comfort zone. I'm still trying too though. It's scary indeed. How if the process to make your art be seen more, will heal you? How if your art is the one that will help you see yourself better?
That's an excuse you can use if you want, but it doesn't hold up. Plenty of rich and famous fat slobs to fuel a counter argument. Not a lot of fat slob artists come to mind, but plenty of weird and ugly ones.
This is very true, I craft jewelry and do art as a side job and take pride and value with my work and time especially the supplies I use to create. I charge $75.00 for graphics also depending on how much detail and work I put in to it, and just to let you all know please value your work and never let a client cheapen the price of your work. That is very insulting, I like this video it makes it's good points and gives you a good heads up
Yes, don't let customers try and talk you down in price. I agree, it's quite insulting. That's what prints are for if they want a cheaper version of that painting!
Great video, I love going to local art fairs and markets and a huge part of my decision to buy art is whether or not I resonate with the artist, I genuinely love chatting with artists about there process and lives. I've met so many cool people and heard so many cool stories this way and I love that when I look at my pieces I have those memories and insight.
my self esteem is shite, after over a decade of family destruction, honestly.. and im an extreme introvert, isolated where i live in the country, disabled and dont drive.. the only time i feel ok is when im in the paints.. and they are a labor, of love, and pretty good. i just dont feel ok, but need to liquidate a lot of paintings; for room and to afford to keep going.. i paint every day!! learning, daily, too.. thanks for the great examples, i get it.. once upon a time it wouldve been more doable...
Alaysia: I'm so sorry you feel like this, I sort of know how you feel because I've lost a lot of confidence too but I'm so lucky: people are helping me with my art but I too desperately need to liquidate (as you put it so well) some of my art-work: I'm drowning in it plus the materials are so expensive and it's all I have really because I lost my job when I became disabled and I can lose myself & my pain & worries in it often = does your art do that for you? It sounds awful to be disabled and so isolated - I think a lot of disabled people don't get the support, practical help and money to be able to live a decent life. I've got a brain injury (and other 'invisible' injuries/disabilities) and have learned about all this the hard way = as most of us do because unless someone we know or ourselves are injured/disabled we have no idea of how hard daily life can be = I was the same: I was totally ignorant too. I wish somebody would help you show your art and sell it - are there no charities who do that near where you live? In the UK Headway (the brain injury charity) used to be loaned an empty shop to do a temporary art gallery/shop with some of the sale price going to Headway. Have you heard of www.outsidein.org.uk ? I think they help disabled artists. I'm sending you very best wishes from France = where I live now, all the very best to you, Jenny.
Thank you, this helped to solidify what I already thought but was unsure of, people tend to like me when they meat me, yes Jasper M, I am also fat and old, but I really like people and they sense that. So getting back to the video, thank you, this helped me to feel more confident. One of the big rule of sales is they first have to like you before they will like your product
It's so funny because I've always known this was true. It's pretty much marketing and branding 101, but to experience it as the buyer was really interesting for me!
I’ve always been camera shy for various reasons and this has been my biggest challenge as I plan to start a RUclips channel. On the one hand I would like to just have every video be a time lapse of a sketch and then watch the money from Patreon and from selling prints roll in. I get to show off my art and the viewers never have to see me. Win win. On the other hand something’s been telling me to just rip the bandaid off and make my first video be a face to camera explanation of what to expect from the channel. It’s scary but your video is making me think maybe the second one would be a good idea; even if I do have the perfect face (and figure) for radio.
very good video I myself sell in ebay I do sell for less but I do understand what you say about the pricing to low but over the years the customers are paying more and I raise the price little by little it works for me that way very soon I will sell it for the thousands
I could sell some of my work but for how long it takes me and what I could probably get for it...I'd rather keep it...money comes and goes...but an original artwork lasts a lifetime
Thank-you for this video. I'm going to try to think of this whole side of marketing as another opportunity to enjoy being creative. I like this quote from Helena Bonham Carter, which I feel sums it up well: “I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.”
I always hate when people say 'you can't do that' or 'this won't work'. I think the art can speak for the artist and that it's other artists that tend to make things a popularity contest. There are many ways to connect with your followers and it's up to the artist how they want to go about doing that.
My goal is to help artist's sell more work, to make a living from their art, not to sugar coat how things work. There is a reason so many artists have such a hard time making a living and it stems largely from not understanding or following simple business strategies. There are plenty who don't want to hear this message, but it doesn't make it any less true.
Lachri Fine Art On RUclips alone there are a ton of artists with conflicting opinions. I've seen tons of projects that should have been successful fail and artists who managed to pull off things that others said couldn't be done. For this reason, I think people have to at least try out their own wild ideas once in awhile outside of conventional wisdom just to see what sticks. I have no doubt you have valuable insight when someone is clearly struggling, but at the same time, if an artist did exactly everything you did to become successful could you guarantee they'd have the same experience?
Because of my environment I can't put my real identity out there, but is it enough to be social and have connections? I mean that's how I find artists who I like and would buy from them
This all depends on your end goals. The reasons an artist has not to put themselves out there does not change the fact that those who do will connect with far more people.
art is the reflection of it's creator so putting yourself out their ain't a bad thing although, I can see why people don't want to. my excuse is I think I'll fail if I tried.
Too many ppl in the world to compete with! It's your edge that will bring you to the top! Quick questions maybe off topic ..., what is the difference between Derwent Drawing Pencils VS color soft? Light fast but really how they are used ( I find Derwent confusing with not much info to go off their vague descriptions) and Is it the Derwent Chinese white drawing pencil you use? ( when your not using luminance white)
I only use the derwent drawing white, the difference with that one is that it is super soft and opaque. It blends very well compared to coloursoft. I've not tried the other derwent drawing pencils though.
You can present yourself however you want. Trust me when I say that half the videos you see where people are super happy and friendly are not necessarily how they are in person. If you know you are intimidating to others then that is something you can work on in your presentation.
Hello Lisa. I am painting a market place with people in them. After painting out the background can charcoal pencil be used for sketching out people and details? And then can we paint(acrylic) over that charcoal? Please Reply.. Thanks.
I love these discussion videos. Thank you for making them, I've learned so much in such a short time! What you say is indeed very true... I myself am going to try and put myself out there in terms of personality (and I always explain my pieces anyways) but there is still a fear I have since I'm still a teenager. On the off chance colleges find and look at my social media (I'm not going to art school by the way), what will they think...? Do you think this is a legitimate fear?
I don't see how putting yourself out there could hurt unless your posts were generally inappropriate in some way. For example, you may be a person who swears a lot, but I wouldn't suggest most artists include that side of their personality in their posts. You can be yourself and show yourself without those elements that can have a negative impact on different people seeing your profile :)
Thank you so much for replying! :) I was actually thinking more on the side of, "oh, this person is too artsy for our technical university" or something like that. I'm overthinking this, who cares anyway? Just going to go off to the other videos of yours I haven't watched this week... Those cherries looked stunning on instagram and I really want to see how you made them. Thank you again!
Do you think artists should brand themselves as their name or (in my case) inspired by their Nickname - Janmac art? I’m in 2 minds about this as people often misspell my surname and my other 2 business feature ‘Janmac’.
Hi Lisa, I have an original Alexandru Darida oil painting that I’m thinking of selling. Do you have any advice or fine art dealers you can recommend in/near Ventura co. Ca?
Your description sounded like her. I found her on FB a long time ago and immediately fell in love with her art. I wish i could afford a pc of her work.
I love fantasy, hence Missticdragon Creations lol, therefore; when I found her, on top the her unique style, I was blown away. I haven't seen anything like her work until I found her. I would probably stay loyal to her even if I did find other artists because as you said, she puts herself out there. She puts on display her personality and love for her craft in her presentations. She and her pieces basically "speak to you" as one as she makes her creations "come alive". I love it!
This is a Godsend, Thank You So Much for posting this! I have NEVER heard this saying before. But I have a question, what if you want, or in my case NEED to do controversial work, such as extremely political pieces, does this still apply, what you said here? Well thanks again for posting this video it has truly helped.
What should I do if my commission sales aren't doing so well. Before, i made a lot of commissions and adoptable sales but lately, it's been pretty nonexistent when I need it to pay bills and such. What should I do?
There is no way to simply answer this. There are so many possible factors involved, but the one thing you do know for sure at this point is that it's time to rethink the way you market and brand yourself. If you had commissions at one time that tells me your work is good enough to get more sales, you're just not getting that work in front of the right people now. I would suggest brainstorming ideas to get more people to see your work. And look at artist's social media sites who are getting tons of attention, what are they doing differently than you?
Lachri Fine Art Hm, you're right. I think I haven't really shown it to the right people. On social media sites, I've noticed artists tend to show their practices, personal projects and work of progress. I even saw one I know quite personally just post her practice on drawing men and someone immediately comment that they'll commission them since they see they can draw guys so I should do that. Show others how versatile and adaptive I am in my medium and soon other mediums. Thanks Lisa, I got it!
Could you give any suggestions on how to do this, when you're afraid of someone who keeps an eye on your social media? It's personal, obviously, but I've been putting myself off from posting lately because I know this person is lurking.
I would use different accounts if your concerned for art and personal. That way you can keep personal stuff personal. Your art accounts still should be professional even while showing your personality, so you shouldn't be posting things there that you wouldn't want the world to see (although honestly that should be a general rule for all social media).
Lachri Fine Art Well, I do have pages etc with this name all over the internet (Which is a made up one), but my concern is probably that he'll see what I post and then... Yeah. I really don't know how to get myself out of this feeling.
ah, stalker situation then huh? I've had some issues with that. I'm just careful not to post anything that lets anyone know exactly where I live or where I am at specific times of the day. Anytime you put yourself into the public eye these are things you have to be well aware of. I don't think there is any sure way to 100% protect yourself from this, but we do want to use common sense. I remember seeing a girl posting one night around midnight about how she was walking home from work, along with a photo of where she was at. She was trying to show off the snow at the time. It would have taken me all of 2 minutes based on the other information on her profile and the businesses in the background of that photo to pinpoint her...at midnight, walking home... alone. Just very stupid choices on her part.
Lachri Fine Art Yeah, unfortunately for me, this guy is my ex... So he knows where I live. I've had to move back in with my parents, because the fear of living alone with him acting the way he does, got to me. Oh, I'd never do that. That's just... No. Never. But I guess I'm just afraid of him reacting, if I post? Anything really. When I told my facebook followers that I needed a break, he texted me a bunch... (with a number he unfortunately found, when I forgot to tell my new phone-company to be unlisted).
Sounds like it's time for a restraining order. You should be able to block his accounts from your art pages so he won't be able to see or interact with them. He can make new accounts, but it's a start.
Very true. Buyers of original art want to know about the artist. They want to buy from real artists otherwise they'd buy factory made art from Target or Walmart. Selling on price is a dead end. Again - Walmart will kill you and as real artist, your buyer is not the Walmart art buyer.
Not always true Lachri [ie banksy] no one knows him or sees him and his work is in the millions of £ and $. He started as a graffity artest and made a name through that with criminal acts painting on private property, and now today a well known brand. But it is normally true for most artists that need to be known more than the art work they produce these days. Some get known by reputation [not the good kind] ie tracey emin, but i would not go down those roads so will stay in the dark and enjoy art for myself. Love your work by the way, keep it up and have a great xmas and new year.
Lachri Fine Art how would I know that!?psychic ! I do like her older stuff ,when it wasn't ALL fur but more clay sculpture but she has evolved .it is harder to get her stuff now you have to go for the little palm sized creatures good luck!
Yeah that's who I thought it was too, I've been following her on Deviantart for a long time. Sometimes she has contests on facebook you could try winning something from her.
There are infinite possibilities. If you do art based on trends you won't be happy in the long run. It would be better to ask others about the specific genre you're interested in.
Since my most recent posting here the price of Banksy paintings have increased to 1.5 million dollars each! This is JUST BECAUSE OF BANKSY'S INTERNATIONAL FAME AND FOR NO OTHER REASON.
Sux I know this to be the case yet I am still telling people I don't do commissions. Instead I rather do the art they want post it to eBay and let meritocracy win it may go for less but atleast the art speaks for itself
Do I have to put my face out there? I sell work already and get commissions but I'm very self conscious and low confident. I have social anxiety and don't like to get too personal, I guess I'm hindered for life...
Depends on how far you want to go with your career. If the amount of commissions and sales you get now is enough for you, then you're fine. If you want to go farther you will need to make adjustments to your business and marketing strategy.
Greetings!! You are right about that, I am in an art gallery but not selling anything, I have to sell myself, market myself. I don't know to much about marketing, and I don't know anyone who can help me but I have some home work to do, I had a web site but that did not work and I gave that a year and a half to work, what do I do any ideas? the name of the art gallery I'm in is Art247--247 Market St.---Lockport, NY,....any marketing ideas? Thank You!!!
I think it can be difficult to get traffic to your website unless people have a reason to go there. Personally, I visit artist sites that constantly update with limited edition prints / originals or that have blogs talking about their work. Do you have a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram page? Posting daily on social media helps. Best of luck to you.
No but i think it is easier at 18+ because you can manage bank accounts and can sell and buy legal stuff without limits. There is a guy who sold his art at age 9 tho. You might just need your parents' help :)
I know you were joking but, I'm sure there are a lot of artists that have a physical / mental factor they have to contend with that may hurt or help sales.
No, not really joking. I do have many social media accounts but no pictures or videos of me. I really believe that my lived-in and half paralyzed mug would hinder my sales. As for personality-- look how quickly I got your dander up without even trying! I do that. Offend people without even knowing how or why.
Michele Cunningham I assumed you were joking, my mistake and don't worry I'm not offended I like discussion. :) Thinking about this a little more I guess you wouldn't know until you tried. If someone is disabled but still doing what they love it could serve as a greater inspiration to others in theory.
+Carla René you are amazing,I have an artistic ability but I'm very shy,you have just inspired me to give it my best shot, thank you so much, best of luck to you
NOBODY KNOWS WHAT BANKSY LOOKS LIKE.HE'S GOT TO BE THE BEST SELLING ARTIST OUT THERE.HIS PAINTINGS ARE BEING SOLD FOR AT LEAST $400,000.00 EACH AND THE PRICE IS GOING UP.THIS IS JUST BECAUSE HE'S MORE FAMOUS THAN YOU (& HE DID NOT GET FAMOUS ON RUclips) AND HIS ART IS BEING BOUGHT BY INVESTORS WHO WILL HOLD ONTO THEM UNTIL THE PRICE OF THEM GOES UP AND THEN SELL THEM TO MAKE MONEY ON THEIR INVESTMENT(S).THIS IS THE REAL REASON COLLECTORS BUY EXPENSIVE,FAMOUS ART.
I have to disagree, to sell art you don't have to put your face or personality out there. That is a modern mindset, it's fan art your talking about. It's like buying Joe Black's crayon art when he was 2 years old. With Lachri logic you can be horrible at art, and sell fan art for lots of money..... Yes it is true you can do this, and no need to be an actual artist. When I buy art I look for quality work and what type of collection that artist produces. I'm not into fan art, sometimes an artist online personality can be a turn off.
LOL!!! No, it is not fan art I am talking about. Where did you even get that? No one should be selling fan art due to copyright. This isn't "Lachri logic", this is marketing and branding 101. Yes, those who are not great at art can still sell their work for quite a bit if they learn marketing and how to brand themselves. Have you never been to an art show or gallery? It happens ALL the time. Less skilled artists get far more sales over those who are more experienced just because the less skilled knew how to market themselves, how to draw their audience in. The one thing I agree with you on is that an artist's personality can turn buyers away. There are many artists who I would never purchase from just because of how they present themselves. Usually, these are artists who do nothing but complain about how no one likes them, have political rants, or are negative in general.
What I mean by fan art.... your reasoning is to use social media like youtube or facebook to sell personality to your fans. Nothing wrong with that, and you don't have to be talented in art. That is... your creating a fan base to buy your entertainment and art. Not many artist have an entertaining personality.... well the ones I know are pretty weird, but weird can be good. lol
haha, yeah weird can be very good. It's the negative personalities that are the problem. I have a few I watch for the sole purpose of "this is how not to build a brand". There is one guy who complains about how no one likes him pretty much every other post. I honestly think most of the things he claims people say to him were made up...it's pretty bizarre.
Yeah the girl who makes those fuzzy animals is fringe weird lol. No... really she is normal and is dyslexic like most of us. With her I think it's an animal cult following than personality, artist see her auction prices and wonder how. To be honest I know nothing about marketing, you seem to be like her in some ways, and that's being very dedicated to what you love. I think to be successful it takes hard work and dedication, one has to love their work...... Marketing is a major plus... but for some of us, marketing is a foreign language, it doesn't compute... that we must move on to other things to keep our right sided minds stimulated.
But you don't say anything about how to get yourself out there....I already know it's about the aritst... I am sure there are some who thought this video helpful... but I found it a waste of my time
I'm a crafter not an artist.
OMG thanks for being so real! I almost didn't watch but your advice is spot on.
This video is like a pep talk from your most trusted friend. I am one of those that is trying to raise my prices but when I do nothing sells and I need to replace the invested $$ to buy more supplies. I am working at that confidence, but only when I am willing to work as hard as you do will I get there. Thank you again!

You can have the same type and level of art, but if you under charge the customer/client feels as if you don't have confidence in your art, so why should they be confident in buying. yay 1st like & view 😉
Yes, having confidence in your work is a huge deal!
Thank you.
This lady is speaking the truth! The information still holds true.
Its true what you say and difficult for artists that are introverts to become extroverts as a sales person. Thank You Alex
I'm glad I could help :D
I'm not so much lazy but I'm put of a guy cause he got me mistunderstood thinking I was charging 500 when I was 150 then 100 I cause hes getting strange about money .he started saying yes neighbour IS an artist ..I'm doing he's pets and already put money in it ..I've told him to think about it .but what really sucks .this is the best art I've done but he just doesn't no my art ..sad this art madness xx
i sold some of my art on my facebook wall... I never thought that they would sell, because I only wanted to show them what I did. I had offers immediately
Congrats!
Good example about the chicken sandwich!
👋 live your perky attitude! I probably heard this info before but never stopped to let it sink in. I’m now at the point of pricing my items to open online and will take your point if not just selling art but behind the art as well. Thanks for sharing and posting.
yes. Art is connection. Sharing that experience and as humans understanding the emotion behind it.
Think 'Banksy'?
I love meeting artists at those shows! It can really make you connect more with their work can't it?!
Thank you so much Lisa!!🙏🏾🙏🏾😍😍💕💕🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💜💜🙏🏾🐢🐢
Thanks! I'll try to put myself out there more!
Wow wonderful video Lisa, I always appreciate the time you put into your videos.
Thanks :)
my self esteem is shite, after over a decade of family destruction, honestly.. and im an extreme introvert, isolated where i live in the country, disabled and dont drive.. the only time i feel ok is when im in the paints.. and they are a labor, of love, and pretty good. i just dont feel ok, but need to liquidate a lot of paintings; for room and to afford to keep going.. i paint every day!! learning, daily, too.. thanks for the great examples, i get it.. once upon a time it wouldve been more doable...
Thanks for arse kick, I'll try and take it all on board
Thank you, this helped to solidify what I already thought but was unsure of, people tend to like me when they meat me, yes Jasper M, I am also fat and old, but I really like people and they sense that. So getting back to the video, thank you, this helped me to feel more confident. One of the big rule of sales is they first have to like you before they will like your product
Great video! Good points about selling yourself. Its very true what you said about people wanting to know you as an Artist.
I'm such a huge fan! I love your work!😁
So true. This applies to success on RUclips as well.
You give the best art tips and I take it to heart. keep it up!
Great video! I haven't thought much about this, but I'm starting a RUclips channel soon, so good to know!
thanks for the video! gotta put yourself out there
Hey Lisa thanks for this video! Best wishes!
very good video I myself sell in ebay I do sell for less but I do understand what you say about the pricing to low but over the years the customers are paying more and I raise the price little by little it works for me that way very soon I will sell it for the thousands
I know of which artist you are talking about with the dolls. And I agree, I would love to have a doll of hers x3
:D
great video, so true! i am an aspiring artist trying to make a name for myself as well as my work.
:D
I could sell some of my work but for how long it takes me and what I could probably get for it...I'd rather keep it...money comes and goes...but an original artwork lasts a lifetime
I am loving your roses!!!
Great video lots of valid points! Thanks
Life is art.”
charityjf thanks for this quote. I’m going to put it on my wall 😀👍
thank you. Great Video
What is that behind you? Is it the top of the table? Love the advice. Thank you!
art is the reflection of it's creator so putting yourself out their ain't a bad thing although, I can see why people don't want to. my excuse is I think I'll fail if I tried.
Thanks Lisa.. and thanks for reminding me that I am a LAZYASS....
Love your channel so much. Do you do art business consulting one-on-one?
A great video and very true.
Thanks for the tips!! :)
Trying to get on youtube for years but editing software keeps freezing and it makes me extremely cross. So then my personality its kind of not bubbly.
Wow thanks so much
what if your not a people person, putting yourself OUT THERE, can be quite scary and intimidating to an introvert type of person. just saying,
You can present yourself however you want. Trust me when I say that half the videos you see where people are super happy and friendly are not necessarily how they are in person. If you know you are intimidating to others then that is something you can work on in your presentation.
It’s ok to be an introvert, as long as your craft is really good
Who is the artist she is talking about?
You have to have the right buyers for your artwork
What do u have yr art on in the bakground? Interesting. Liked yr thoughts
Hello Lisa. I am painting a market place with people in them. After painting out the background can charcoal pencil be used for sketching out people and details? And then can we paint(acrylic) over that charcoal? Please Reply.. Thanks.
I use a white charcoal pencil to draw over my liquitex basics or airbrushed backgrounds all the time, then paint right over that :)
I think that it just shows you are well rounded. Colleges like that!
Thank you for the advice again :)
Ca?
Are you speaking of Wood-Splitter Lee Cross? Her pieces are FANTASTIC!!!!!
How did you know?!?! Someday I will own one of her pieces...someday!
Your description sounded like her. I found her on FB a long time ago and immediately fell in love with her art. I wish i could afford a pc of her work.
I totally stalk her facebook page haha!
Yep, still applies.
But you are an adorable talented dork!
lol
Lachri Fine Art do you think mixing sharpies, color pencils, and paint all together can create an epic pictures?
Is it wood splitter lee ? I am big fan and own a number of her stuff
Yes!! And I'm jealous :D
Can you do another video on types of content artists could do that would appeal to potential buyers?
You don't want to create art for the buyer, you want to find buyers who are interested in the art/style you create :)
Lisa, this is so true. Just like you have said in the past videos, develop your market to purchase and follow your work.
I wonder if what she meant was videos or blog posts for your potential buyers to see that would showcase you and your art.
Kathryn Bigelow Yes, that's exactly what I meant, or showcase myself. Thank you, Kathryn.
There are infinite possibilities. If you do art based on trends you won't be happy in the long run. It would be better to ask others about the specific genre you're interested in.
Very good video, but HOW do you get people to know you as an artist?
What do you mean put yourself out there?
Art is high dollars art marketing prices you art so right
Since my most recent posting here the price of Banksy paintings have increased to 1.5 million dollars each! This is JUST BECAUSE OF BANKSY'S INTERNATIONAL FAME AND FOR NO OTHER REASON.
good
Sux I know this to be the case yet I am still telling people I don't do commissions.
What is the girl’s name who makes those expensive dolls?
So you have 3 killer doles in the house now LOL, thanks for the info
I do! lol
Lisa, please don't name anyone of them "Chuck-ette". That may be a problem.
HAHA!
Do you have to be a specific age to sell your art?
No but i think it is easier at 18+ because you can manage bank accounts and can sell and buy legal stuff without limits. There is a guy who sold his art at age 9 tho. You might just need your parents' help :)
But what if you are ugly and fat and have an abrasive personality? Like me?
+Carla René you are amazing,I have an artistic ability but I'm very shy,you have just inspired me to give it my best shot, thank you so much, best of luck to you
Why is there watercolor on the the thumbnail
I sold my very first artwork for 50usd. 😅
probably temporary thing, but I cannot get to your website. My internet is fine, but it just won't open up your website for me... uhhhh... wth? :/
it's been abnormally slow lately. I am going to need to check with my hosting company, I may need to upgrade something.
BREATH !
It was quite a revaluation seeing that you are actually selling your artwork and prints dirt cheap.

Dudess, I respect you. I subbed and thumbs up. Check out my Avant Garde Painting. God Bless and kick butt.
So is she saying that you are suppose to put your face out to sell more?
Your face and personality... or at least the good parts of your personality. If you're a negative person, leave that part out haha.
Wolf girl '
😘💞💞💞
I am sure there are some who thought this video helpful... but I found it a waste of my time
must be some good coke
Didn't know artist we're such selfish arrogant people who cries when someone took their candy
