You've always been one of the best and most consistent guide/content creators for mage in the past, but damn dog you really stepped it up to a new level this cycle. Appreciate all you're doin to keep the community informed and playing well.
Well, I really wanted to play Fire.
I think frost will be favorable because of its simplicity when dealing with cost opportunity DPS loss from unplanned movement. Right now in pre-patch, it’s hard to do consistent competitive dps to many melee dps class in M+ because their margin of dps loss is a lot less. Especially if your tank is dragging huge groups through a hallway in a string. A caster cannot do optimum damage in those scenarios by spamming insta procs…but will frost SS, you can and have it be near optimal.
Arcane Mage Sunfury is a tall poppy and its going to get pruned.
I hope they make it fit the normal arcane rotation instead of making this degenerate shit too.

@@kikoredog they are theorycrafters who havent uploaded anything in a month. I watch their clips but preheat is on another level because how he keeps the community current and up to date with changes basically daily. He also streams a lot of theorycrafting and simming and not just final guides. He's the best.

All I want is to be able to play Spellslinger Arcane in +12 keys, my late tier CE guild, and not be totally griefing them. I LOVE the playstyle and just pray Blizz brings Sunfury closer to that 1.4mil dps mark. I'm okay with Spellslinger be less optimal than the more difficult Sunfury rotation, just not so much that I'm trolling my friends by playing Spellslinger
I'll never understand why people think that if something isn't meta, that it needs to be dogshit (referring to comments, not the video). Fire has been really good for a while but that doesn't mean it needs to be dumpster fire tier as compensation 💀just make it average or slightly above average and no one would complain
They ruined living bomb. Its incredibly sad to see how absolutely gutted it is.
Yeah... here's hoping they buff it and tune it correctly so it's up there.
Thanks for the guide! Very useful. I’m always puzzled on why frost mages love when their damage is holed up in glacial spike instead of ice lance given how immobile glacial spike makes you. I’ve never liked it when glacial spike is the meta/most of your damage because it turns you into a turret. Aggressively tuned ice lance does just as damage but makes you magnitudes more mobile. Arcane and frost looking fun as it stands!
This! Glacial Spike seems unnecessary with this build! I’d rather use Ray of Frost for the Fingers of Frost triggers and a quick single target burst spell for a priority target than use Spike.
Damn they really crushed fire in all forms of content. Bottom of the barrel for pvp, m+, and raid

@leiny5421 it was good for barely a fraction of the END of the expansion. Cope harder and enjoy being st the bottom of the meters
Overall for the first couple of weeks, if I wanna push keys with my team would you say playing fire is "worth" it due to current tuning or should I invest my time into learning Frost/Arcane? Really wanna play Fire but don't wanna hold my team back due to pigheadedness
I hope they buff fires damage a bit. Its so much fun to play with how it works now. Just needs the numbers to match
Personally I'm glad fire is finally not beating everything else by miles anymore. It's literally been top almost the entire lifetime of the game.
@Aerogosa doesn't need to be top but it currently ranks as one of the worst along with Dev evoker. I'd be happy with it being bottom of a tier or tip of b kinda thing doesn't need to be s tier

@@VelvetSkyyefire was not beating everyone by miles for the most of part of DF, especially in raid. In M+ it was only played for its priority damage profile and survivability, frost could do more overall damage, and multiple other specs could outdps fire easily.

Hopefully arcane is good in m plus. Love sending orbs and barrages into mobs
It seems to be fairly weak in large pulls but strong in small ones
Arcane seems to be able to burst with the best of them in aoe. There are definitely other specs that are more consistent in aoe in terms of overall damage but I think with how potent SF Arcane is in single target tends to balance it out. Haven't played beta but just from the videos I watch this seems to be how it usually plays out
@@hunterbell2066 arcane is very hard target capped so the moment the pull has let's say 10 mobs it's already down doing 3.8m dps while frost dk pumps 9m+
Why do so many subscribe to the idea that there has to be bad specs? Buffing fire doesn't make Arcane/Frost obsolete. It just gives mages more options. I'm playing Fire regardless, but it just seems silly to campaign for a spec to be nerfed into oblivion.
Reading all the talents when they first got announced no way in the world I would expect a Sunfury Arcane mage to be on top.

I'm down for Fire to be in the dumps for a bit it has had plenty of time to shine, Arcane prob needs to be tuned back a bit but not gutted, it should have its time to be the best mage spec and I can't comment on frost really becasie I am a frost main buy I ma glad it seems to be doing well atm
Arcane doesn’t need anymore nerfs. Hero talents need adjusting, not actually make talents
@@christophervelasquez2063 arcane isn't even top3 overall dps in m+. Maybe not even top5. That makes it good but not deserving of nerfs.

Why is there such a huge dependence on GS for frost? With everything else you can use and do, a big cast time like that seems like a waste for not the biggest payoff overall.
I'm new to Mage and was thinking of coming back in TWW with a Mage. Is Frost still the go-to spec to level up? Or should I be Arcane from the get-go?

Use whichever you have more fun with / are more comfortable with and follow the boss / single target events in the active prepatch event zone. U will max in about 4 - 5 hours or so
Let's hope they just adjust the Hero talents for SF Arcane and not mess with any of our ability damage. Would just push SS down even further. Also, if SF Arcane is harder to pick up I hope it stays ahead. They just need to bring up the other mage specs imo and not nerf Arcane more than they already have.
Preheat do we think FrostFire Fire will get some tuning? I can’t imagine they will leave living bomb like this.

I love my fire mages, but I thought I'd make an Arcane just to try. It's powerful, no doubt, but I sure do miss that rhythm you get into with Fire..
Frost rotation is so simple it allows you to pay attention to mechanics and delegate the rotation to the autopilot part of the brain.

As someone who wants to main mage for first time what spec do you think i should go for which is more noob friendly lol? they all seem kinda hard
I picked up mage a couple weeks ago, and for more context, I only started playing WoW in S4 of DF. I've found fire to be the easiest to pick up, but a bit harder to master. Arcane isn't that bad, but I was doing a decent amount of research to learn the rotation (obviously Preheat helped a lot with this). And to this day, I'm still stumped by frost. There's so many procs, and then there's shatter. It has me a bit lost, but I probably just need to do homework like what I did with Arcane. YMMV, but this is what I found over the past couple weeks :)
Spellslinger frost imo. Fairly easy to play and decent dmg profile according to this video. I recommend Manathers Frost mage guide from like >6 months ago to get a basic understanding of frost and the rotation. Then you can watch Preheats latest SS Frost guide.

@@davidt2956 Factually wrong, Fire and Frost were pretty good for M+ with an option to change specs as for Raids Arcane pulled ahead of Fire and Frost for many tiers.

they're the talent choices, variants of the builds, he should explain these but yeah if you wanna know just look at your talent tree and hero talents :) its usually at the end, GS = glacial spike, ss is spell slinger hero talents etc
Why is Fire still so weak? WTF are they doing?! I want to play Fire again but it seems to be dead still.....
Guess the top 5 builds get nerfed a bit - except arcane SF which will get a big Hit.
Other classes are under 1.4 m
@@davidw.5984 its completely ridiculous to assume people can pull off the same as arcane sim when the rotation is so complex and heavy on hard casting (during encounters with mechanics no less). Watch some streams. Compare sf arcane with db frost dk. The latter has 5x easier rotation for 2x the damage (in big pulls).
Arcane is tempting but I’ve been playing frost for 20 years. I’d feel like I’m cheating on frost if I switch lol.

I hope Blizzard is aware that Arc SF is one of the hardest spec to play and if they nerf it, they still keep it rewardable if played almost perfectly and not "oh no, its way too strong, destroy it"
They will gut it, just like they did with the funniest/hardest spec in legion : Surrender to madness SP.
@@Mozillarum i agree. In WoW theres no reward for playing hard specs. A spec can both be hard and terrible in dps. Often times very easy specs are allows to be top damage.

Tuning SF Arcane will be a disaster, it's a heavy casting high tech build that's not realistic to do this kind of numbers on a real raid scenario... Logs are more important on specs with so much casting time.

Lets be real, by the time this is live Arcane will not just be the worst mage spec, but also one of the bottom specs in game.
We had same thing happen in Shadowlands and Dragonflight, they try to balance it way too late, and then they don't have enough time to partially revert some of the nerfs.
Arcane was overall super fine in DF. Mostly middle of the pack, sometimes a top spec..

i really dont like how mage is moving towards having fewer and fewer casts and more instant procs. Nothing feels as good as a mage as casting some big pew pew, compared to braindead spamming ice lance.. idk maybe it's just me
There’s a plus side though, the cost opportunity for dps loss for constant unplanned/forced movement will be less. Making mages have competitive dps to melee dps in most scenarios, such as a tank that continues to pull groups of mobs in a string.

Well, they managed to ruin Spellslinger and now arcane is forced to play this lame Fire themed shit with a fire phoenix that casts half lame fire spells instead of having actual arcane visuals, and those Spellfire spheres look horrible compared to the Felo'melorn orbs.
How did they ruin Spellslinger? SF is obviously a tad overturned and SS Arcane is basically tied for second according to these sims
@@hunterbell2066 They nerfed clearcast, splinter procs and nerfed the damage. What we end up with is a horrible arcane blast spam, where if you want a better rotation with more barrage to not be an arcane blast turret, you have to play Sunfury.
I honestly don't even care about just the numbers, I'd rather be a B spec with a fun, varied rotation instead of an S-A tier spec with arcane blast spam.
I'd rather they undo the proc nerfs and just apply an aura damage reduction nerf to balance the numbers without ruining the great rotation we had in early beta.
@@hunterbell2066 they ruined arcane. If you have to ask how then you didnt play arcane last month when it was smooth as butter. Now its a spreadsheet 500iq hardcast turret simulator. Better not have any mechanics or movement or your 1.9m sim becomes 850k.
Worst fire build sims lowest within mage specs at 1.1mil, while the best devastation evoker build sims at 920k. WTAF is blizzard doing?? Nerfing aug and slapping dev on the face at the same time??
