His written guides are really helpful and have nice charts to get you started. Spellslinger frost is very intuitive and still does good damage. That’s what cool about mage. You can scale it to be as sweaty as you want. :) When his written guides come out, I suggest you give it another shot! It’s good fun.

Just came back to retail and decided I wanted to play something different, turns out arcane is gonna be pretty meta. Spent about 4hrs on the target dummies learning the current pre patch rotation, glad I spent a lot of time learning it since this looks super complicated. Different story playing it in a dungeon but I'm looking forward to some complicated but rewarding gameplay. Nice video :)
Y'know, Imma gonna press arcane blast until something glows, then I will press that. Counting charges and spheres and orbs and pebbles, spell queueing and clipping while interupting, spellstealing, avoiding 7987 mechanics that trash has, removing curses, iceblock soaking, nah, thank you. I'll be doing 10-15% less damage and we'll be fine till +13/14, atleast I won't have to worry about affixes then.
This spec looks so fun. I can't wait. I was a little disheartened when they cut Arcane's difficulty recently, as I was a massive fan of the 'big brain' Arcane spec of Shadowlands and early Dragonflight. This definitely looks like most challenging version of any of the mage trees we've got at the moment. I'm very excited for TWW.
Love the guides, and excited for Arcane! Wish the dps difference between Sunfury and Spellslinger was closer as I personally enjoy that playstyle more. But glad the spec has such different ways of playing regardless.
Thanks for the guide and it makes sense to a seasoned arcane mage. You said a couple of times in the video that if you get to 4 stacks of BOP and you don't have CC missiles then you just have bad luck. I didn't notice if you mentioned what you should do in this scenario but @ 18:38 you run into this exact problem. It looks like you AE to proc CC then cast missiles into double barrage. Do you think this is the best approach to when you get caught in this situation? If not, what do you think is a better approach?
Great vid, tested it out on the dummy's a bunch and it's super fun tryna manage and line up the buffs for big barrages in aoe! Managed to get a 3.9k no crit barrage on my one test pull... I wish it crit!! Haha that was also with no optimised endgame gear, just 4 set, trinkets and PvP weapon on beta
This is all looking slightly more complicated than what i thought it would be haha. Is there a "dumbed down" way to play this but at a DPS loss? I play quite casually but still wanna pump some decent numbers ofc haha. Great videos though, been learning quite a bit about mages from you! Excited to play one in TWW! Letting my priest/healing rest for an expansion XD
I would suggest watching it a few times and practicing it a bit on the beta servers. It looks intimidating on first watch because of the buff tracking but once you get a feel for the rotation and understanding of the spell queueing synergy it starts getting easier.
Is it worth holding off 2NP 5 Spheres in preparation for TOTM without surge? Say like you have 3 seconds left until TOTM and you have 2 NP 5 Spheres. Do we just dump it or wait a bit so you can do the TOTM macro and blast barrage after for the double dip?
Great guide as always, what is the reason that we dont use orb at the beginning of the ST opener so we are at 4 charges to use the barrage into touch thing? Keep it up man
Because in single target with this build you won’t be at 4 charges after using orb. As a result, it would just be a wasted resource since you are going to be building to 4 with touch either way.
Preheat, do you think there is any hope for Fire Mages, all I see is Arcane and Frost, I really want to play fire, but it is SO far behind the other two specs, I feel a bit disheartened to put time and effort into it, thoughts?

So question. When DF first launched I tried mage for the first time ever. I was struggling with the windows and felt like if you missed something in the rotation you were screwed. Felt extremely punishing if you could not play it right. And me being new to the class it happened regularly. How does it feel now comparatively? Still punishing? Still big brain? It was refreshing to play something new. Ive mained a rogue my entire wow career. I love the class fantasy and the visuals. Just couldnt keep up with others.
So i don't get a point at 19:23 (Tips for AOE). You are saying that when we are out ot charges it is better to Blast instead of Explosion, but it feels weird a little. Like you should be able to generate charges faster with Explosion rather than Blast. Blast obviously generate our spheres but is it more important than barrage on full charges ?
man I miss old arcane mage so much (WOD/Cata/MOP)... used to be so fun and simple. Keep wanting to come back to Arcane for the cool fun looking abilities then see rotation guides and they makin it real easy to say no thanks. Even spellslinger which is easier than this and DF... way too complex to bring me back or a quantifiable # of players back to the spec (which has been super low % since WOD from what I've seen). I want to play and enjoy the content not a sweaty rotation, especially with the huge increase in encounter complexity past couple years. Plenty of other specs that compare in dps and not this sweaty that I will play, just wish I could play Arcane that way. I'm clearly not the target audience though, just makes me sad.
Huge agree. Almost every mage ive played with since SL has been awful since nobody actually can gigabrain the intricacies of the rotation. The high end mage players are having a great time while everybody else is in the dumpster its wild. Id like them to simplify all complex specs a bit more for the overall health of the game personally... and idc if the top 1% vocal minority dont like that
Yeah I mean it’s actually kind of interesting that the game at the highest level of raiding, m+, PvP, not only requires Weakauras to play the content, but also to play your spec. If you dont lean into using weakauras then you will not understand this spec at all. The default animations are not enough.

I feel like I missed it, can someone point out why we use missiles instead of arcane explosion in aoe? And why is it bad to use explosions to build up arcane charges if we don't have anything else?
AE is a damage loss except for the case where you have Burden up and are below 3 charges. Missiles boosts barrage in other ways, AE only gives charges.

Nope! Just use your missile for np if you have 1 or less np stacks then barrage into totm (you should have 4 charges) and continue as normal. Also make sure you check out the new guide!
cant understand why i dont cast blast blast barrage all the time, instead someties we just do blast barrage... if its to loose the chargers why dont simple use the dip mechanic all the time ?
I've got to say you made this needlessly confusing for a guide and wanted to give some feedback on how that could have been avoided When showing the rotation and talking about sunfury orb charges you don't point out the indicator in your UI. Your graphic showing what to do at various charges is good but would benefit from a very quick explainer of even just what the acronyms mean. It saves a newcomer taking a minute to figure out what the graph & acronyms are actually saying while you're also talking. At 4:37 you suddenly start bringing up intuition without explaining what it is at all. You show the rotation but skipped certain parts like when you ran out of mana with 8 seconds remaining for Evocation. I feel like for a new Arcane player being oom could be stressful and so that part is exactly what they'd want to see, you do similar again later during AoE too (not oom but just skip). And overall I feel like you could just take your time more and explain what the buttons are actually doing more, even though sometimes it would be re-iteration people do need to hear things a couple of times and having something quickly explained again when it actually becomes relevant helps it stick. For one example what the Sunfury Orbs do at 5. I think a lot of newcomers by that point will be distracted by all the other rotational information and would benefit from a reminder as it's so core to everything you're saying.
when i watch his UI, he has alwys 4 arcane charges even if he uses barrage...how is is possible? as when i use barrage it always eats all charges unless it's proc from tier set
Why do we waste a gcd casting blast for our double dips in aoe scenarios when a standard barrage hits signicantly more than an empowered blast on multiple targets? Wouldnt we be better off skipping blast and throwing out another barrage, empowered or not? Is there a target count cut off that applies for this perhaps?
It's specifically with touch of the magi to make magi spark go off right away so it hits everything. If you activate it later you may not get the full value.
I'm 95% OTP arcane since years but hell this looks complicated to think about all this stuffs and conditions during a mythic progress where you have to think about all others boss mechanics. "old" arcane was basically alot of muscle memory, i hope with sunfury, once u get into it, it goes easier because this looks like the hardest iteration of arcane build we ever had, and not by a little :o Im used to the pre-patch arcane so i guess i will just have to deal with a new stuff, but for newbies... it's gonna be a "nope 2hard2learn" spec :(
as someone new to arcane, this video has been really REALLY hard to follow. you mix up "4" and "5" a couple of times which is confusing, you randomly without mentioning it jumped back to a point where you had no spheres which was confusing, you dont explain what AM is, and when i naturally neglect it being missiles because the graphic showed you using missiles despite it saying :no NP, AM" above it. thank you for the video but i literally had to watch it for an hour and a half, rewinding and repeating sections and trying to make sense myself of what you are saying just to learn, and i did learn, but this could have been explained much simpler
Hero talents are actually so great for Mage if they can get the builds DPS within reach of each other the class might becomeeven more perfect than it is already.
again i dont know why but i dont follow anyting u are saying. This spec seems so hard when u explain it :P but its rly not. Hope its just me, but u are so hard to follow because when u explain u dip and dive into all sorts of stuff. so the core stuff u have to do gets lost.

Always clip. It's a gain even in aoe. Sims do this

What if in the burn phase we delay touch of the magi so we can have the arcane soul sync with it, maybe under bl should be an higher burst

It's specifically with touch of the magi to make magi spark go off right away so it hits everything. If you activate it later you may not get the full value.

I remember you using a trinket that gave like 12k int and transformed you into a spider, it had a cast time as well iirc, whats that trinket called?
That trinket got nerfed to 4k intellect

I'm 95% OTP arcane since years but hell this looks complicated to think about all this stuffs and conditions during a mythic progress where you have to think about all others boss mechanics.
"old" arcane was basically alot of muscle memory, i hope with sunfury, once u get into it, it goes easier because this looks like the hardest iteration of arcane build we ever had, and not by a little :o
Im used to the pre-patch arcane so i guess i will just have to deal with a new stuff, but for newbies... it's gonna be a "nope 2hard2learn" spec :(
It's harder but it's also better. Put in the work and get rewarded.

as someone new to arcane, this video has been really REALLY hard to follow. you mix up "4" and "5" a couple of times which is confusing, you randomly without mentioning it jumped back to a point where you had no spheres which was confusing, you dont explain what AM is, and when i naturally neglect it being missiles because the graphic showed you using missiles despite it saying :no NP, AM" above it.
thank you for the video but i literally had to watch it for an hour and a half, rewinding and repeating sections and trying to make sense myself of what you are saying just to learn, and i did learn, but this could have been explained much simpler
I have other videos on arcane. Think of this as an upper level course. Also I don't mix rules for 4 and 5 everything is intentional.

This looks sick, but I do hope Spellslinger is the play. I'm a Huge fan of the idea of a caster that spends a single digit % of the fight casting.
Hero talents are actually so great for Mage if they can get the builds DPS within reach of each other the class might becomeeven more perfect than it is already.

again i dont know why but i dont follow anyting u are saying. This spec seems so hard when u explain it :P but its rly not. Hope its just me, but u are so hard to follow because when u explain u dip and dive into all sorts of stuff. so the core stuff u have to do gets lost.
