- Kia has done it again with the 2021 K5 GT-Line. Following on the success of the Telluride they decided to redesign the Optima and change the name. Under the hood of the K5 is a 1.6L turbocharged inline-4 that is producing 180HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The K5 is longer, wider, and lower. On the outside you will find the K5's signature "heartbeat" DRL, and provocative styling of the GT-Line pkg. On the inside you will find more interior room because of its longer wheelbase, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and specific GT-Line interior trim. Yeah. I think Ford and Chevy could aswell if they made their cars more reliable. The main reason they are losing market is because they are still making the same stuff with overprice repairs and the cars will last you 3-5 years at most.
@@chrisp7110 um Ford makes good cars, all the Fords I owned have made over 200,000 miles troublefree, I’ve seen many Fords go over 400,000 miles troublefree, stop blaming Ford because of the junk gm puts out, gm makes junk not Ford, you don’t see me blaming Toyota because of the junk Nissan puts out do you?

If you think K5 vehicles are the best, look at the defect issues and the attitude the manufacturer is taking in Korea right now. You'll change your mind. I bought this same model with the wolfe grey and red interior. People at work freaked out. It looks better than almost anything in it's class.
I am really disappointed we are getting a downgraded version here in the states. The interior from the one sold in South Korea is insane

It's insanely disappointing. I was watching so many videos of the South Korean version and I loved it. I extended my lease so that I can get this, but then this odd downgrade happened. It was supposed to be Sonata interior like.... with the cool features that the Sonata has. Instead we get this... Not even a surround view. Such a shame. I'm even considering just keeping the 2017 Kia Optima SXL....

The EX has always been the luxury trim of the Optima. Wait until Joe reviews the K5 EX
@@ft9kop umm no. The SX has always been the highest trim, not just "sportier". The EX never offered anything the SX didn't. The SXL especially.

Best redesign I have seen in the world of sedans. Better than the Camry, Accord, Sonata.
It's nice but the Lexus IS 250 2021 and Acura TLX Type S 2021 looks better.

Kia used to have this cheap car stigma that I’m trying to get past, but I took this car for a test drive today, and I was very impressed. It was very comfortable, smooth, and despite the small turbocharged engine, it had good “pick up”. Peppy! The sound system was solid, too.

One thing I mention when I talk about my Optima is that every piece of the car is created with thought behind it. Nothing on the car looks cheap or just thrown together. I love my Kia!!! A great review when you get the new big GT that we all are waiting for would be top of the line K5 GT vs. top of the line Stinger. Thanks for the excellent reviews on these cars.

Raiti, I love your car reviews. This coverage of the k5 convinced me to buy a 2021 k5 gt-line, red seats, wolf grey exterior ,panoramic roof, AWD from Century Kia of Tampa. I did notice recently that there was some rev hang when the car was pushed to 4000 rpms in sport mode.
"I know alot people are upset that we don't get the rotary dial"... umm no me I love this , I hate rotary and push button shifter...this one is perfect

27k seems like a great price. That's even less than a loaded Civic Touring and less than comparable Camry or Accord.
Yea those offer bigger gauge clusters though this one has a gauge cluster straight from 2013

I saw my first K5 just a week ago. It was the base LX trim in red but I was blown away on the styling, even on the base. I saw the name K5 and was totally confused. We were the first dealer within a 50 mile radius to get one. It's a great looking vehicle for sure, much better than its twin counterpart Sonata which is too over-styled in the front. This sharknose grilled they're going for is much more appealing.

I’ve been saving up every penny I have to get a car. This is my top choice over the Camry and Accord. Kia really left my jaw dropped with this specific vehicle, an amazing explanation and in depth review

Before you decide, try driving a used Mazda 6 Grand Touring I got a 2014 in black for 5k 2 weeks ago after trading in my 2011 Outlander Sport. It drives like a dream.
KOKO PUFFS most cars aren’t coming with real leather anymore. It’s not like it used to be. You have to spend over $40k + and still don’t get it. I was just at Infiniti and it was all pleather until I was up to $60k. Volkswagen uses V-Tex leatherette until you get SEL Premium models for $41k. It’s crazy

Reconsider that dct though. It's super jerky at low speeds. They overheat. I read somewhere that Kia did a recall on them in S. Korea.
Hyundai and Kia is trying to upgrade their level. I really appreciate on their effort. But some major defect should be clarified like uncomfortable vibration and engine reliability.
I'm sure they know how to solve it. but i also do expect they will not compromise with quality due to cost.
I hope they will become great competitor to stop monopoly of Japanese brand in the world.

Totally disagree. The stinger is semi bland and uninspiring. The G70 and this car look so much better.
@@velr50gt The funny thing is the Stinger's design was actually inspired by the last two generation Optimas. You can tell by the C-pillar and greenhouse.
I just bought this car based on your review. I was going to wait for the 2.5 but Im glad I didn't. I do mostly in town driving. I have put 3000 miles on it and it has all been in town red light to red light. My avg mpg has been 30mpg hand calculated. It's early torque makes it great for in town driving. Has more than enough for my in town driving. This is my first kia so I am anxious to see how it holds up. Keep up the great content.

This is a big improvement over the Optima. That gray with those wheels looks really good. I’d like it better if it really was a hatchback and didn’t just look like one. Great job on the review as usual!

I have a Kia Stinger GT2 and absolutely love it. It is simply the best car I have ever owned.
I actually do love their vehicles. If I needed a daily I would go Telluride or Stinger GT in a heartbeat.

I like the analog gauges better than the digital ones. The digital ones can look choppy if the refresh rate of the screen is not fast enough.

I have a 2015 Kia Optima SXL Turbo, white with the white Napa leather. 🔥❤️ I love it so much. After my 3-year lease I was going to get the new 2018 Optima but my car looked way sexier AND it was faster (274hp to be exact)!!! They lowered the horsepower and made it look less sporty (thanks stinger) and more basic sedan. So I purchased my lease (I’ve never done that) and 5 years later I’m still in love with my car and said I would drive it until it fell apart. Well, until I watched the video of the new K5 GT! Uhhh, YES PLEASE!!!! 😍😍😍 Just might have to buy a new one after all! I’ve only got 77,000miles on my 2015 but...🤤

Just got this exact car. Same color with black interior and I love it! Once you throw some tints on it, it really sets it off. My 2 knocks against it are the sound system (you get a better one in the higher trim levels) and no heated or cooled seats. Other than that I’m really enjoying my K5.

Honestly I’m between this k5 and the Mazda 6. Coworker had the Mazda and I drove it every once in a while to pickup lunch. It drives nice, seats are great. But this k5 looks awesome
Hi. We find the 1.6 turbo 8 speed in the K5 much better than the non turbo 2.5 6 speed Mazda. But the 6 with the turbo is awesome and has much better interior quality then the Kia.
