Actually most International magazines have rated Malaysian food as second best in Southeast Asia after Thailand and ahead of Vietnam. But Malaysia has its pluses. Recently Roti Canai was voted no 1 bread in the world while Nasi Lemak and Asam Laksa have frequently been voted among the top 5 in the world. So I guess Malaysian food is going up the food ladder. Peace ✌️
Jalan Alor is not really a Malay dish area... most of the dish are Chinese, Thailand and Indonesian dishes. If you wish to taste Malay food you may proceed to Kampung Baru where they sell a lot of Malay food variety from breakfast until midnight. The famous Nasi Lemak Wanjo also situated in Kampung Baru. You may want to take a look over there for Malay cuisine....
Yes dear ... you can try Nasi Lemak (Nasi Lemak Wanjo is popular among tourist, tastier than the one you eat) with more choices of side dish, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang, Laksa, Nasi Campur (mix rice)... meaning you can take any side dish you want (vegetables, fish, chicken, beef, lamb, etc)... sometimes they have more than 30 choices of side dish for you to pick and eat with rice... Plus, don't forget the no 1 bread Roti Canai, Nasi Briyani, Nasi Kandar and last but not least the famous Ramly Burger... (you can search for Burger Boss at the end of Jalan Alor) or anywhere else also no problem,..
ride the LRT and go to kampung baru for malays and Indonesian cuisine there also ride the KTM komuter to komuter pantai dalam and having a nasi padang there😊 happy and enjoy your stay in Malaysia 🤗
Best Nasi Kandar is on Penang. Kaya is an amazing restaurant . The Kaya near the AC Hotel is open 24 hours. We ate there 3 times in 2 days. Eat with your right hand only for an authentic experience. They have wash stations for before and after eating.
13:07 - Cendol ( the pronunciation is "chen - dol" ). If you come to Melaka city, should try Cendol Kampung Hulu, near the Masjid Kampung Hulu ( mosque ) and Ghost Museum.
Where is "nasi kerabu"( blue rice)? I think I saw at the thumbnail...I recommend u visit Kampung Baru if u want to explore n experience local Malay food. You can walk to Kampung Baru from KLCC through the beautiful Saloma Bridge 👌
Ah thanks for the recommendation! We will definitely look into that next time we’re in the area! We didn’t fit the Nasi Kerabu in this video, but good eye! We’ll have to in the next one for sure! 😋🇲🇾🍛🙌
About Nasi Lemak, formerly famous in Kampung Baru early before Wanjo was "Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru". A few years ago they temporarily closed the business and now they are back in operation in Rawang, Selangor. • Nasi Lemak Pandan ( green colour ) is something you should try also. 😊👍🏻
That is awesome to know, we will definitely look into it more and try out this place next time we come! We love the recommendations, we’re adding it to the list! 🙂🙌
Looking fwd to trying all of these! Thks for sharing! I’ve heard that Jalan Alor is more touristy and a bit expensive/ less authentic. We are visiting kampung baru when we go, where malay food is better priced + more authentic/quality 👌ill let you know how I like it in January so u can try it if you visit KL again
Original nasi lemak is colorless but tastes a bit coconut milk. The popular Nasi Lemak restaurant in Kuala Lumpur is located in Kampung Baru, Wanjo Nasi Lemak not far from the Petronas Twin Tower and you only need to walk across the Saloma Bypass. Don't forget to try the street Ramly Burger. The most popular burger in Malaysia.
Yes, great food! Might not have pronounced them perfectly, as it is our first time trying them. But had an amazing experience, will be eating them again for sure
Great video...thanks for the info...by chance, could you share the written names of some of these dishes and prices. We're planning on heading to Malaysia and interested in trying some of these dishes. Thanks!
Hey thank you! Sorry for the delayed response... Here is a list of the items we had and where we found them, in order on the video... Mansion Tea Stall: Flooded Roti & Pulled Tea: The Roti Banjir Special & Teh Tarik In Brickfields Area: Traditional South Indian Banana Leaf Meal: Mutton, Fish Curry, Chicken Curry Jalan Alor: Nasi Lemak (We got the knockoffs, so look for the real deal), Apam Balik (Chinese Pancakes) & Cendol Hope that helps and you enjoy your trip! 🙂🙌
It seems to me the nasi lemak made with food coloring, nat a real pandan leaves. The real one doesn't like florecent rice. It suppose to be brownish green.
Roti canai is pronounced as roti canai, not roti kenai. Satay is pronounced as sate, not satai. Apam balik is pronounced as apam balik, not apam balak. Cendol is pronounced as cendol, not kendol. Do come to Malaysia again
Haha we got them all wrong! 🤣 Thank you for correcting us, we mean no disrespect with our poor pronunciations! The food was absolutely delicious! Thank you for watching and your warm welcome, we’ll be back for sure! 🙂🇲🇾🙌
Ok so you tried the wrong type of Nasi Lemak. That is a commercialized version. Not the right type. If you wish to try the original version, go to Wanjo Restaurant at Kampung Baru, across the Saloma Bridge from the Petronas Towers. Malaysian satay has a different type of peanut sauce and not mixed together with the satay. Also you dip into the sauce later. Also in Malaysia, its spelled satay. Do remember, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore are all Malay states in the Nusantara. So the food is about the same.
Thanks for the recommendations! It was our first time trying Nasi Lemak, after all the comments, it seems we had a beginners mistake in trying the “authentic” dish. Next time, we’ll be on the hunt for the real thing for sure 🤣🇲🇾🙌

We loved Malaysia culture and the food! We realize we didn’t get the authentic Nasi Lemak, but just one more thing to look forward to for next time 🙂🇲🇾🙌
What's your favourite SE Asia Cuisine? 🍱
Satay
I love nasi dagang ❤😊

The apam balik you had is the crispy type for people who like something very light. The traditional apam balik is thicker, soft and quite filling.
Oh that’s good to know! Thanks for sharing, we’ll look out for the fluffier/fuller one next time 🙂

Yeah for sure! 🙂
The original Apam Balik is thick and soft. It has become a popular and traditional food for the Malays.
Apam balik originates from China.
Yes! That’s what we’d seen when walking around Petaling Street, unfortunately that crispy version was all we found on Jalan Alor
That was pretty awesome!
It was awesome to film/eat it all! 😋🇲🇾🍛🙌
The good explanation.. Love it ✌️good eater 👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂🙌
theres 2 time of apam balik
the dry ones, the soft pancake-ish ones

Yeah, a bit unfortunate/beginner ignorance. Next time, we’ll find the real thing for sure!
Indonesian satay is spicy. Malay satay is sweet.
Yes! Could definitely tell the difference. We love both versions haha
Next time remember to wrap the banana leaves towards you , if you acknowledge that it’s delicious
If turn away from you , means its not delicious
