Why would anyone move there? I own a nice car, can drive anywhere, I can carry things, I can pull up into my own garage, I can drive 10 miles away in 10 minutes, at a moments notice. My workplace is just 15 minutes away, I can see trees, lakes, summer, winter, parks, everything. Why would I move to the world's largest apartment building, with no roads, in the middle of the desert? Let's say I want to go to a new store that is a mile away. First I need to walk to the nearest elevator, take it to the basement, wait for a train, sit with other random people, watch for my stop, find another elevator, find the store, walk in, buy my stuff, now how to do I get it home? I want it now, not some delivery. And I live there for what, a job? What businesses are there? Why would they be there? There would be so little privacy, it would take forever to get anywhere, and would be totally inconvenient. Might be fun to visit, but it would be like living in a strip mall, with no cars. Sad that this will be a total waste.
Sounds like you live in a nice place. What county / city do you live in? I agree about the line, it will suck having a life just inside a building. They will probably make parks at the rooftop, but still there is something about just being out in nature that people need.

A huge plethora of vacuous enthusiasm from the various architects, but a monumental lack of detail which will lead to a lot of sceptical criticism. The renderings need to have a much more "lived in" look as now they look empty and almost abandoned. There needs to be a lot more commerce shown, markets, events, adverts and general life to make it realistic. Car free sounds good but how are big and heavy objects going to be delivered to the various homes and businesses? How would delivery vans get around and deliver to peoples doors? There is a phrase that "cities are the mess left over from people making money". How are people going to get rich by living in The Line? One of the reasons people like cities is that they are cultural, with theaters, exhibitions, the Arts, conferences and a political centre. Where are the cultural hubs? Where are the airports? If people are going to live in the city there will need to be exceptional transport links to other cities The marina at the end shows large superyacht diesel guzzling powerboats! Ooops, if the city is to be zero carbon emissions then they all need to be carbon neutral sailboats!

What a dystopia it will turn into. Imagine when one section revolts and blocks passthrough or those on the bottom floor rise against those on the top. And I consider keeping the integrity of this 170-kilometer-long building to be impossible over time. One earthquake and the line will probably break because the ground shifts horizontally or vertically at some point(s). And a thousand other things...
The more I'm seeing of this, the more I expect this to end up being a new Dubai, but much worse. The feverdream of people completely removed from reality, at best. The wet dream of tyrants, at worst. Even if they build this thing to completion, there are so, so many reasons why this city is a bad idea, at least one of those reasons will be its downfall.
A rail system that can travel from one end to the other in only 20 minutes? So, those living at each end can easily visit each other. All those in-between must still use camels in the desert? lol (Or, 170 stations, each one kilometer apart, and the entire trip now takes 14 hours.)...this entire video is misinformation. Imagine how many people want to live near the coast, rather than the center of the desert. But there isn't enough room in the "Line". Eventually, an entire city will appear around the "Line" at the coast. Probably mostly slums, but still a city, defeating the whole point of a narrow walled environment..

If they wanna try it, try it I don’t care. But there is literally zero reason to go for 170 miles in length and go for 500 meter height. Why? I am 100% sure that first they will build like a 20 mile one and then test it out, because the whole thing is just a huge waste of money, and work. It’s incredibly fucking stupid. Why would anyone want to live in such a stupid enclosed space like that?? And they say it’s luxury???? This is a disaster and it’s never gonna happen. I hope they realize it sooner than later that this is basically burning money. And the concept sounds incredibly stupid.
500m highwall that taller than 90% of the world skyscrapers, and 170 km long that a fking huge sail, then the mirror how long these mirror last- replace them every 20yrs at least. 170km x500m= 85,000,000 square meter of mirror x 2 for both side total surface area of the walls 170,000,000 msq. that is a lots of mirror if they install solar. still stupidly expensive and atmost utilise 30%-40% of the solar power generation what ever way it just stupid idea ( and this is only the wall)
This seems like a dystopian hellscape. Even though it’s huge, the feeling of knowing you are constrained within walls would seem claustrophobic If you ever want to leave, you are just in the middle of a desert. The Middle East already barely has an economy outside oil and tourism, so I don’t understand where people are going to work. Seems like it will be wall-e type environment

the best video on the NEOM Project, which provides comprehensive construction updates on all the projects within NEOM. This video also Covers the criticisms surrounding the project, making it a well-balanced overview. I encourage others to watch the entire video for a thorough understanding.
well aren't you just a walking propaganda machine. no, it doesn't address the criticisms at all. it's not well balanced, it's just another MBS hype piece full of lies, and watching this doesn't support a thorough understanding because it doesn't address the fact that there are no blue prints, the technology to build this doesn't exist and even if it was feasible to scrape every single last bit of raw materials on the planet, there still isn't enough raw materials to make what is needed to build this. the fact that the claim is 20% complete is the same as saying that MBS is more compassionate than the bhudda. and to put a fork in this, the reality that this train will go end to end in 20 minutes means it has to run at 300mph without making a stop. that's the only feasible way to meet this 20 minute threshold, and currently, the fastest trains in china barely top 300 mph.
I love the idea, they should put garages on top for the hover cars, If the ski resort affects the atmosphere then maybe they should make it indoors, it will also keep the snow refrigerated, I definitely think this project will make everything flow better, look at all the projects they already made that were impossible in the past, this project actually makes the most sense.
That high-speed rail might be able to go from end to end in 20 minutes non-stop but it's going to take much longer if passengers have to get on and off every mile or so. I'm sure there would be plenty of stations for such a long city. What annoys me is that the Saudis can work that fast on such a huge project, yet in NYC it takes five years just to get a painted bicycle lane. Anyway, that project seems less than 2% completed, and not 20%. There are no walls or central building structures which should take much more time to construct than clearing the land.
Are they moving fast or are they just breaking ground over 175 KM and making it look like they are? I predict that what ever sections are completed will look like Blade Runner
20% does indeed seem like a lot for this scale of a project 15% maybe. Dirt work is a huge part of any building and often takes a lot of time to get correct at a set elevation that remains consistent. Without the ground laid out correctly it makes pouring level concrete very difficult
Nothing has been build yet. It's just a huge pit. The fun starts when they are going to make the foundations. All that concrete and rebar... Will be finished in 3225
And how exactly do you bring all the equipment and material to build in the middle of the desert, hundred of miles from cities..?and the water and electricity for all the workers all those years? A DESASTER !@@stefawn4042
even though I doubt it will ever be what they plan, spending all that money is a good thing; people get paid, products get purchased, manufacturing goes on, and that money flows out to many people. so in that aspect, I think it is a good thing.
Like China ghost cities. Short term. Then what? Oil money will dry up in 40 years or less- then what? This will be 300% over budget, 10 years behind schedule and likely an environmental disaster. This is the desert- high temperatures and no fresh water- who thinks this is a good idea?
Massive Emissions are blown out, people work like slaves, sand gets robbed from all over the world for concrete, hybris is free-flowing. Not so good, ey?
Have you seen Saudi Arabia? Might be better to spend the money on the country and the Saudi people before spunking it away on insane, child-like vanity projects. Most of the country looks poor, 3rd world poor. Much poorer than anywhere in Europe. Quite something when Saudi Arabia's per capita GDP is the same as Spain. I guess Saudi Arabia is just scrambling for some semblance of attention and relevance in today's world...
I have studied urban development for over 40 years. A line as the basic blueprint for a city is a wrong choice. Has been tried several times in the past and failed miserably. A thriving city needs a center and should develop organically into a circle, an egg, a square or a rectangle.
Western nations will make the prophet of constructing it and maintaining it indefinitely. Thus, it generates employment for Western nations and businesses. Suede has the most idiocratic lenders in the history of their nation.

Insane progress... yeah, way slower than thought. 1 year has passed and not 1% (1.5km) of bldg has been built. Only still dug sand. This is meant to be finished by 2030 right?
The slowest part of any project is the foundation. Excavating, drilling and placing pilings can take a lot of time, but once all the foundation is in place, putting up steel moves pretty quick. And overall construction techniques use a wave method. They start on one corner and start putting up steel, as soon as it has progressed enough they start the next phase while steel continues to move further down. And once phase 2 has progressed enough, they start interior layout work, etc. So really, once they get foundations in and ready, things will pick up pace drastically. And once enclosed it will appear to slow down as everything will be happening internally. They're absolutely going to run into delays, but they also have more money than God. Regardless of how this all plays out it is a bold attempt at some new things and ideas and I like that. It's how humanity has progressed for 10s of thousands of years. By trying and learning and trying again.

I'm interested how they plan to build plumbing and sewage systems. I hope they won't transport poops Burj Khalifa-style i.e. on trains. Also Line-city is very vulnerable to disasters. If something bad happens it might disconnect city in two parts: one part with water and another part without it.

NEOM feels like Westworld
mega city 1
If people are going to live in the city there will need to be exceptional transport links to other cities
The marina at the end shows large superyacht diesel guzzling powerboats! Ooops, if the city is to be zero carbon emissions then they all need to be carbon neutral sailboats!
Watch Blade runner if you want to see what the parts they complete will look like. No Natural light, and everyone crammed into a small place with no where else to go
YO. A SECTION OF TRAIN WILL CARRY ANYTHING YOU NEED AND WOULD BE DELIVERED THROUGH THE SIDES. THE GAP IN BETWEEN CAN ALSO HAVE ROADS FOR LIGHT TRAVEL. YOU THINK THESE THINGS WERE NOT TAKEN IN TO ACCOUNT WHILE DESIGNING A TRILLION DOLLAR PROJECT? SURELY THERE MUST BE SOME METHOD TO THE MADNESS.
--------
THERE COULD BE REPAIR SHOPS,PLUMMERS AND WHAT NOT INSIDE THAT AREA! IT IS A CITY HAVING EVERYTHING BUT ONLY IN LINE.

THE BUILDINGS WILL HAVE PLENTY OF OPENINGS AT THE BOTTOM PERHAPS FOR MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE, ITEMS, EMERGENCY ETC. IT IS NOT LIKE A SEALED WALL.

Blokwars, an unavoidable problem with megacities. Lucky for us, SA already has a judge system ready.
And what about Israel? What if they feel the need to ‘defend’ themselves again!
They will need a judge dread
@Donnerspeer you know the old saying, ppl that live in glass cities shouldn't blow themselves up.
Notice the work camps aren't in a line!😂
😂😂😂
A rail system that can travel from one end to the other in only 20 minutes? So, those living at each end can easily visit each other. All those in-between must still use camels in the desert? lol (Or, 170 stations, each one kilometer apart, and the entire trip now takes 14 hours.)...this entire video is misinformation. Imagine how many people want to live near the coast, rather than the center of the desert. But there isn't enough room in the "Line". Eventually, an entire city will appear around the "Line" at the coast. Probably mostly slums, but still a city, defeating the whole point of a narrow walled environment..
25.6 kilometers of rail for a 175 kilometers of city. Each end will go 25.6 kilometers from each end leaving 125 kilometers not serviced by rail

seems like an insane idea, i swear it was deemed not viable
If they wanna try it, try it I don’t care. But there is literally zero reason to go for 170 miles in length and go for 500 meter height. Why? I am 100% sure that first they will build like a 20 mile one and then test it out, because the whole thing is just a huge waste of money, and work. It’s incredibly fucking stupid. Why would anyone want to live in such a stupid enclosed space like that?? And they say it’s luxury???? This is a disaster and it’s never gonna happen. I hope they realize it sooner than later that this is basically burning money. And the concept sounds incredibly stupid.
500m highwall that taller than 90% of the world skyscrapers, and 170 km long
that a fking huge sail, then the mirror how long these mirror last- replace them every 20yrs at least.
170km x500m= 85,000,000 square meter of mirror x 2 for both side
total surface area of the walls 170,000,000 msq. that is a lots of mirror
if they install solar. still stupidly expensive and atmost utilise 30%-40% of the solar power generation
what ever way it just stupid idea ( and this is only the wall)
I Love it!!!

I would get so bored always traveling by the same buildings, shops and people in only one direction.
This seems like a dystopian hellscape. Even though it’s huge, the feeling of knowing you are constrained within walls would seem claustrophobic
If you ever want to leave, you are just in the middle of a desert.

I love the idea, they should put garages on top for the hover cars, If the ski resort affects the atmosphere then maybe they should make it indoors, it will also keep the snow refrigerated,
I definitely think this project will make everything flow better, look at all the projects they already made that were impossible in the past, this project actually makes the most sense.
U need to see cartoon named "solar opposites", in that movie they have a concept of "The Wall". It looks pretty the same:)
Building a canal by the look of it 🤷🏻♂️🍻
Desalination would work best with civilian solar plants.

Wow this really is a world news the line in the desert
I have studied urban development for over 40 years. A line as the basic blueprint for a city is a wrong choice. Has been tried several times in the past and failed miserably. A thriving city needs a center and should develop organically into a circle, an egg, a square or a rectangle.
you are confused
Why didn’t they build the residential communities in a line? Because a line is stupid.

Sindalah is nearly completed and is scheduled to open in the year 2024.
My question: Why?
The pyramids in Egypt were easier!
Kudos to Saudi Arabia ❤ love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
Merci Tous "...NEOM-...."...
Milli (⚜)... 🌌
just the fact that it appears they are going ahead with this is phenomenal, advanced transportation, wow, props to the visioner and funding... i'd surely like to work on it ... I am sure it's going to be more of a vacation/retirement/wealthy only community its a very cool place, I hope they have rooms or hotels at reasonable rates if not even hostels for travelers... be cool place to stay then take your motorcycle and go do some serious riding... fishing, outdoor recreation, 4x4ing, side by sides, man FUN! the desert can be very fun if you know what to do and how to negotiate it...
this first phase might be done by 2026 but not the entire 200 miles, no way, but it wont need to be completed, just enough to host the games.. so cool , I say PROPS to the dreamers and those who are making it happen!
This is a Muslim prison.
Just make sure your girlfriend keeps her arms and shoulders covered. You both could land in jail otherwise.
I'm interested how they plan to build plumbing and sewage systems. I hope they won't transport poops Burj Khalifa-style i.e. on trains. Also Line-city is very vulnerable to disasters. If something bad happens it might disconnect city in two parts: one part with water and another part without it.
Hopefully into a facility that turns biomatter into gas, you can reuse the rest as fertilizer. That said, it is an expensive option.
Definitely could use the desalination plant in San Diego and LA.😮
It’s sound dream but let wait. Ideas awesome 😊
