I am looking to upgrade to 1440p in the future, but i got a monitor from a friend for pretty pretty cheap (its the 27g2wg3 monitor), im looking to upgrade but i just keep changing my mind, i primarily game, but I do some video editing. Im looking at a ryzen 7 5700x for the card, as im going to go 1440p in the future, is that a good combo? im also looking for a good motherboard but i have some time.
There are a couple of things to consider here looking at your individual points. First, the 6800 will be good for a high refresh rate experience at 1080p and will be capable at 1440p when you’re ready to upgrade your monitor. The 5700x and AM4 in general is a pretty good value platform still and that gives you a little bit of room to upgrade in the future to something like a 5800x3D. And the 5700x + RX 6800 will work well for video editing. The other side of the coin though, is, do you just jump in on AM5? AM5 motherboards are much less expensive now, Ryzen 7600 is ~$220 comes with a cooler and is a really fantastic gaming CPU. Also there should be many more upgrade paths down the road on AM5 compared to AM4. Personally, I would go the AM5 route because of these factors, but the initial cost may just be a little bit more. Maybe that means going with a 6700xt to try and make it all work within your budget, which would also be a great 1080p experience!
@@PuffinTechYT Thanks for replying so fast! I currently have an i3-10100 with a 1660 super and the thing is upgrading everything at the moment is very hard as i practically need to change everything other than my SSD and HDD. The case needs to be changed because its an old office case with 0 fans and very bad airflow, the ram is 2666mhz because thats what the CPU supports. I want to upgrade my GPU first, and im thinking either 6800 or 7700xt ( where i live they are the exact same price, so im still deciding on which one, 7700xt is newer, but the 6800 seems to be better in almost every other way), and im gonna change the PSU ( i currently have chosen the 750W be quiet! Bronze one as gold ones are like 40 bucks on top) and get a new case (right now i have Zalman N5 OF as my choice, seems good comes with 3 fans as well and its not that expensive). And after 5-6 more months im going to upgrade everything else (CPU, Motherboard, RAM and probably get a cooler for the CPU) So i still have time for the cpu choice and stuff, im just really stuck on whether or not i should get the 6800 or 7700xt ( i originally had 4070 in mind but upgrading everything is coming in to a very pricey budget :C) Also to point out, im not looking at the most ultra preset available, im okay with turning down settings a bit in story games to get that 60fps at least sorry for all the questions and stuff, thanks in advance if you decide to help me !
@@darkuskata I see, ok. Seems like you have a good plan, that's the nice thing about PC, you can upgrade a piece at a time :D 6800 vs 7700xt yeah they're pretty similar performance-wise but the 6800 has more VRAM and is typically less expensive, at least in my region. I would honestly just get whatever is less expensive between the two. It might be interesting to see what happens to the price of the 4070 after the 4070 Super launches, the 4070 is quite a good card. I doesn't look like that case is available in the US so I can't really speak to it. Zalman has kind of a weird reputation in the US for various issues they've had and I think they're banned from Gamers Nexus at this point lol.
@@PuffinTechYT Thanks for the info! @@PuffinTechYT Yes it's quite good. The launch price was 579 so it's 170 € cheaper than that also only about 50 euros more than the 6750xt and cheaper than the rtx 4060 ti 8/16gb.
Thanks for all your efforts you put into the video! Im building my first gaming pc to play in 1440p at the moment. Now I cant decide if I should buy the 6800 for 380€ or if its worth to pay 90€ more for the 7800xt🙈 Do you maybe have an advice for me?
Thanks, I appreciate it! Let's see, the 7800xt can be about 20-30% faster than the 6800 at 1440p depending on the title. Based on the pricing of the cards you provided that's about 23% higher cost for the 7800xt. I wouldn't consider that amazing value, basically a 1 to 1 price to performance increase. At the same time, you will notice the extra performance of the 7800xt, so it's really a tough call. I would say if you can comfortably stretch your budget then the 7800xt is probably worth it even though it isn't an amazing value.
Hi Andrew, thanks for the fast reply and your words. After a little thougt I think I will order the rx 6800. I would only get this price for the 7800xt with a cashback from asus. And the games u tested (esp. Cyberpunk and AW2) look so good on it. Anyway, thanks again for your support and the video 😊

I figured I will have to beef up the PSU but I might be able to get one for about the same price. I was going with. 750w but they recommend a 800w on the microcenter site for it
I think it will last the longest of any card currently available in its price/performance class (4060 Ti/7700XT), and will have similar longevity to GPUs a little bit higher (6800XT/7800XT/4070)
Yes, since it is a starter 4K card and a powerhouse 1440p/1080p card. I prefer this for the 250W max TDP so heat in case is not a huge issue. This card uses 2 8pin connectors, no issue with catching fire due to the new connector or adaptors, either.
I'm mind blown how people have slept on the 6800 and 6800xt. I looked at cards when the 6000 and 3000 series cards came out and went with the 6800xt. I've never had any issues out of it and I run the balls off of anything in 1440p.

just got this badboy for $233 used.. ex office use too, so i would assume it's not hardcore..
Awesome find! Love a deal like that
That's why i updated my cpu and not my 6800 recently
Who knew the RX 6800 is 2 inches longer than the RX 6700? I bought a 6800. Now I am waiting for a case to install it in. It's cool. I have had my last 4 builds in this case. I needed a new one. Waiting sucks. Had I known I would have gotten the case already.
What about getting the card for 1080p gaming?
And after 5-6 more months im going to upgrade everything else (CPU, Motherboard, RAM and probably get a cooler for the CPU)
So i still have time for the cpu choice and stuff, im just really stuck on whether or not i should get the 6800 or 7700xt ( i originally had 4070 in mind but upgrading everything is coming in to a very pricey budget :C)
Also to point out, im not looking at the most ultra preset available, im okay with turning down settings a bit in story games to get that 60fps at least
sorry for all the questions and stuff, thanks in advance if you decide to help me !
@@darkuskata I see, ok. Seems like you have a good plan, that's the nice thing about PC, you can upgrade a piece at a time :D
6800 vs 7700xt yeah they're pretty similar performance-wise but the 6800 has more VRAM and is typically less expensive, at least in my region.
I'm gonna wait till the start of February before I buy my GPU ( 6800, 7700xt or 4070), but I'm honestly really hoping i can get the 4070 or if the price is the same ill get the 4070 super and just wait a bit more before upgrading the rest, I just hope my CPU is gonna be okay with that strong of a GPU for at least 6 months.
Thanks for the video. About to buy this now for my neices birthday.
You just made me buy. Thanks.
Hope you enjoy it!
waiting mine bro nice video
6800xt still blows through everything so ill wait a few more years to upgrade!!!
Really needed that video. Gonna get my friend the 6800 in his new pc
Awesome, glad to hear that! I’m not sure if the Best Buy sale is still going, but Newegg has the same model for $409.99 right now
@@PuffinTechYT that do isn't matter for me as I'm not from the us. Here in Germany the got the same model for 409€
@@emanrov Just so I can understand, is that a good price in Europe?
@@PuffinTechYT Yes it's quite good. The launch price was 579 so it's 170 € cheaper than that also only about 50 euros more than the 6750xt and cheaper than the rtx 4060 ti 8/16gb.
@@emanrovhello neighbour if you want in France I could find it on Amazon for 389/399€
Thanks for all your efforts you put into the video!
And I’ve already read a lot of negative comments that it takes several months and frequent enquiries to get the payout.🙈
Since its my first gaming pc I think I will be more than happy with the 6800. And the games u tested (esp. Cyberpunk and AW2) look so good on it.
Anyway, thanks again for your support and the video 😊
Awesome, I think you’ll be happy with your decision. And an added benefit is that when you upgrade down the line you’ll get an even bigger performance upgrade, which is always fun!
just found your channel I haave the rx6800 PG asrock card OC to 2400 and 2100 on mem.
its an excellent card no RT but am super happy. looking to migrate it to a new AM5 build and wait for the 9000 series GPU`s
I was looking at the 6750xt but this card is available for $30 or so more. Now I'm thinking of getting this one.
The 6800 is a large step up in performance + 33% more VRAM, makes sense to me 😁
@@PuffinTechYT microcenter is running what seems to be a great bundle on a Ryzen 7, 7700x and I was thinking of pairing it with the 6750 xt which seems nice then I figured I'd check the 6800, the 6800xt being a bit out of the price range, but they have some of those too. I figured I will have to beef up the PSU but I might be able to get one for about the same price. I was going with. 750w but they recommend a 800w on the microcenter site for it
I mean you could probably get away with a 650w psu with that pairing if it’s a good quality psu, but I understand wanting some headroom
@@PuffinTechYT I thought 800 sounded a bit high. I will look into it
Run the 7700x in Eco mode, that’s 65w for the cpu if you’re worried about it
I bought one of these Xmas season.
It VR's quite well.
is it good for 422 USD ?
the price includes the gpu for 360 USD + Shipping outside the US + Customs/Import fees
just bought a 6800 like 3 weeks ago for 300 bucks best deal ever
do you think that this card will last for years to come for 1440p if bought now ?
I think it will last the longest of any card currently available in its price/performance class (4060 Ti/7700XT), and will have similar longevity to GPUs a little bit higher (6800XT/7800XT/4070)
@@PuffinTechYT that's amazing thanks for the reply ❤️
Yes, since it is a starter 4K card and a powerhouse 1440p/1080p card.
I prefer this for the 250W max TDP so heat in case is not a huge issue.
This card uses 2 8pin connectors, no issue with catching fire due to the new connector or adaptors, either.
I'm mind blown how people have slept on the 6800 and 6800xt. I looked at cards when the 6000 and 3000 series cards came out and went with the 6800xt. I've never had any issues out of it and I run the balls off of anything in 1440p.
Btw dont give up making videos. Its sad that you have so little subscribers, but hey, you just need to be consistent
Got mine 2m ago, its awesome card. 😁👍
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it
@@PuffinTechYT O, i do. Thanks 😁👍
For gaming only this is the best card price to performance in my opinion.
💯💯💯
Got my 6800xt for 320$ insane deal using it to build my brothers pc
just got that 2 days ago, i think its the best 16 gb gpu at its price
I got a used one for $275 it rarely goes over 50°c.
At top left showing fps and all, What program is that?
Good Job keep it up i like hour content! Subbed
Its a good looking card for the price but how long will it be supported by AMD ?
Would this gpu be any good with the r5 5600X? Looking to upgrade my rtx 3060
Any tips on setting up AMD Adrenalin for global gaming settings?
I have an Rx6800 and my temps on ultra settings are 74* and hotspot goes around 90* dont know if i should be worried about that.
Hi i have a question did you use your pigtail pcie or did you use 2x pcie cables
I use a pigtail 😁 shame on me but I’ve never had an issue with that and 8 pin Molex Mini-fit connectors with a pigtail are fine up to ~375 watts
@@PuffinTechYT hahaha Yeah i just wanted to know because i might get an rx6800
@@KottenHaven It's a great card if you choose to grab one!
6800 is right on spot with 2k resolution till this day...6800xt you can if you want to go with 4k...i do its ok with fsr on some titile...but today only alan wake 2 was too much for it at 4k. needed to use the fsr...lets see if wukong, stalker 2 or space marine 2 will hog it :D
still rocking my Aorus 6800 master. It has a little LCD screen on it :)
I used RX 6800 with a 5700X3D. Everything on high, RT off, native 1440p and my average FPS sits at 103fps according to AMD adrenaline.

How does it do with ray tracing? just curious.
@AncientGameplays Found a doppelganger.
hello, would i get similar results on 5600x and 6800xt? or would there be a bottleneck bc of the cou
I have a 6800 and 5600x and there is a small bottleneck when playing bf2042 but most games run perfectly.
Can you do an undervolt guide on this card?
Games and recording at same PC or recording at another PC
Would y'all recommend this card over 4060ti 16gb or 7600 xt 16gb? I don't know much about gpus i just decide based on vram quantity, clock speeds, and the generation of the card...
The 6800 is much more powerful than those cards
right now i am still using a 6650xt in combo with an r7 5700x. i thought about heading on to the rx 6800. what do you think?
im swap 6600xt to 6800. get it 300$ and performance huge (maybe x2.0). Now.. i think its time to upgrade cpu, rn 10400f. In 2k alright, but in 1080p have some issues. overall u should take 6800 to. Fun fact ps5pro use +/- 7700xt and remind u 7700xt = 6800
i came here to see if my mid to late 80 degrees on my 6800 was fine.. i see you are getting about the same thing when the game is at higher settings. So id assume this is normal.
My gpu usage is super low and I only get around 50 frames in cyberpunk with fsr on, high settings. I have a 5600x too, so there shouldnt be an issue. Any help?
Hey dude! My eng is a little bad but i want to help you.
First of all tell me what is your system spec?
And did you use ddu software to install your gpu driver?
@@Xemi_1 My spec is: rx 6800, ryzen 5 5600x, A320M-A PRO motherboard, bequiet 650W psu, and 16 gb ddr4 RAM. And yes, I used ddu. Thanks for getting back to me :D
I have owned this card for 1 year and I can say for sure it is the best gpu card I owned so far. Due to my limited budget, I was unable to update to a high-end nvidia, so I opted for this one, and no regrets so far, I'm able to play all games marvelously, and hopefully, this card will be able to play new games for more 3/4 years, to say the least.
That’s great! I think it will last a long time too
It’s 330 brand new on Amazon now!!!
I just bought it for i7 8700k. I hope it will be good :D
Nice! Just upgrade that CPU next 😁
@@PuffinTechYT Due to the fact that after the premiere of the RTX 50xx, I will give the entire computer to my father, because I will be assembling a whole new unit (my father also plays games, often CS2, and now BF 2042), I was thinking of leaving the processor. Alternatively, I would sell the processor and motherboard and buy a 5600x. Is it worth it or leave it as it is?
I think it would be worth it, but if everyone is having an enjoyable experience then that’s all that matters really.
@@PuffinTechYT I understand :D The joy of playing is the most important thing :3 Thank you for the time you devoted to me. I found your channel by accident and it was a good thing. You're a nice man. I wish you every success :D
@@Elviss2k23 Thank you, that's very meaningful to me 😃
this card is a good in 4k ultra setting with fsr on, 60-80 fps average.
It would have been great to test a new competetive game like the finals
I’m working on a new video, I can test The Finals, are there any others you would like to see?
I can't get more or less than 75 fps in Cyberpunk and Vsync is off both in game and in adrenaline. I had the issue before and what fixed it was turning on smt in gameplay settings but now it stays at 75.
What driver version do you use?
This was 23.12.1
In my country xfx refurbished sells under 300 is it worth it?
Well, I don’t really know the context in your country, but in the USA this card would be amazing under $300
@@PuffinTechYT gonna get one soon :)
I don't recommend it to Windows 7 users, though! The drivers seem bad to me. Some games suffer from graphical issues and OBS recording is messed up as well!
Other than that the GPU performs well enough for me, but I'm thinking about getting RTX 3060 instead because of the Windows 7 issue. I hesitate though, as I do not know whether the drivers will work better.
Still good at 4k as well.
my 6600 died on me and powercolor has ignored / denied every RMA attempt, might as well pick up a 6800 hehe
That XFX 6800 reaches almost 90 degrees celsius, so so bad man, not good at all ;)
You should increase rmps with custom curve to decrease temps :)
does anyone know why my gpu overheating on factory fans settings? i have exact same rx 6800
What do you consider overheating? I find the default fan curve on the XFX to be tuned low, but not necessarily overheating. I also found that letting the fan ramp up to about 1300 rpm by about 70C was both much cooler and quiet enough for me
My PC was crashing when GPU was hitting like 85/86°C no video output on monitor and PC had like frozen sound i don't know how to name it. It happend like 4 times before i changed fan settings
And i have dual bios set to performance and when it was 85/86°C fans where like 900/980rpm
Would this gpu be fine with 650w psu?
Should be fine, but what CPU are you pairing with it?
@@PuffinTechYT Nothing fancy but it works well, Ryzen 5 5600. I currently have an RTX 2060 and I considered to upgrade to an RTX 4060ti but 6800 is cheaper (new)
Ok yeah, 650w should be perfectly fine with that combo
