She then realizes that the curse of the rune is very real, and in turn, finally understands that any life she could have with McDohl would inevitably end in tragedy...for both of them. That is in fact, the entire point of this sequence (beyond the fan-service); McDohl stays far away from all of those he cares for the most because the Soul Eater has already taken so many close to him. Related aside: Pay attention to Judgment's animation; the spell originally has the 4 souls taken in Suikoden 1. But in Suikoden 2, Judgment has six souls. The two new souls taken are up for debate as they were never confirmed, but the most reasonable theory I've heard is that they're Emperor Barbarossa's and Matthiu Silverberg's, two people close to McDohl personally before and during the main conflict of Suikoden 1, respectively) In any case, it's impressive how much good writing can say with so few words. For that, the loss of Yoshitaka Murayama hurts. At least, for the relatively few of us who grew up with these games and their excellent characters/stories.
Was originally supposed to be a couple hours earlier in the night, but the event fell behind due to an internet outage and a power outage at separate points. Generally the long runs take up the overnight slots for a few different reasons, not the least of which is that there are fewer people awake to handle volunteer positions so it's more convenient to schedule stuff when there's less need for more setup/tech stuff
