R.I.P., Mike Nesmith. In his final book a few years ago he tells the story about the first screening of RM for the studio suits. A young woman was in attendance who responded to their bewildered silence after the end credits by standing up and shouting, "What is wrong with you people?! THIS IS THE GREATEST THING EVER!"
This was in a simpler time, when they let you discover the best bits of the movie once you paid to go see it, rather than spoil everything in the trailer.
Just watched this with the commentary by Alex Cox, Mike Nesmith, a couple of other people (casting director, actors, can't remember names) and it was BRILLIANT. They had an amazing conversation going throughout and laughed and giggled, gave some great insights into the film-making process in general, & some great stories about casting and filming. So I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen this to watch it at least twice. Once without commentary, & then again with commentary. You won't be sorry.
@@HisNameIsJoeyAndILovehim On the criterion edition of the DVD you can go into the settings and watch the film with running commentary by Nesmith and others, and then take that feature off and watch it as it was released in theaters. When you watch 'with commentary' they often talk over the actors in the scene, so you can miss dialogue if you only watch once with the commentary. So watch it twice, once with, once without.

This movie was one of the few random VHS cassettes I got from a garage sale when I was young. Too young to even know REPO was an abbreviation let alone most of the movie references. After seeing this trailer 20 years later, I'm excited to watch this again.
One of my fave cult movies ever with some well known actors. Harry Dean Stanton, Emilio Estevez for starters. Definitely one of my fave 80's movies too.
It's funny how a quirky little movie such as Repo Man can make such an impression on me. I used to watch this on a VHS cassette repeatedly. I must have watched it over 100 times. I finally decided to buy a digital copy of it the other day. The box set comes with a digital copy of the soundtrack which is out of print if I am not mistaken. Good stuff. Love, love, love this film!!
"Interesting friends you got there, Otto" "Thanks! I made them myself" This movie and High Voltage are two of my favorite 80s guilty pleasures with Emilio Estevez.
I loved Tracey Walter in this film and wish he had more scenes. Also, this trailer really should have have had a clip of Harry Dean Stanton. The man's a legend.
The way I found this movie was John Vorhees at the Seattle times said it was one of the 10 best movies of the year. It was not easy to find, but I was hooked. I got the sound track.
Saw this in the theaters when I was a 13 year old punk in L.A. The L.A. scene was fucking insane. I was getting into clubs, doing drugs, got sectioned to a youth psychiatric facility where I got a Xanax scrip that I still have to this day, heroin, gangs, 5150 checks, shot people, got shot myself. Thank you for reading my blog.
Here because my spouse’s doctor made the “all I wanted was a Pepsi” reference which we finished, saying “and she wouldn’t give it to me,” and he said we made his day. In ten years no one had finished the quote for him. No one got the reference. Turns out he was quoting Repo Man and we were quoting Suicidal Tendencies. I wondered aloud, “which came first? The chicken or the egg.” Then he had to do a little research and came back to let us know that it was Suicidal Tendencies in 83. But now I’m wondering, was there a connection? (Edit: the song is in the movie) All I know for sure is that it was the best experience we’ve ever had in the ER 😆
This was my favorite film for many, many years before being replaced by another, endlessly rewatchable film where the plot matters far less then the wonderful dialog and colorful characters. A film which, coincidently, is also set in Los Angles. Have you guessed which one yet? Its the big lebowski. You could describe the big lebowski as "after a case mistaken identity, a man becomes involved in the search for the kidnapped wife of a millionaire." That's accurate but does a very poor job of describing why people enjoy the movie. Both movies are satires. That's why they are so rewatchable; you stop worrying about what the film is about and where its going and instead just enjoy the ride.
Great movie. I get sick and tired of seeing movies full of rich yuppies and shit like that.
