Thanks for sharing this with us !! just got out this weekend on a Kayak Adventure and I'm already planning one for next weekend love your videos thanks for all you do RiverKings are awesome !!!🤙👍👍🇺🇸♥️😎
Awesome video! I fish at Robeson Creek all the time, great place. I would love to see a video explaining how to use the water data on the USGS site. I kayaked the Little River recently and it was just a little too low when the USGS site was reading a little over 100 CFS. I just got done with the Catawba River and that water was reading almost 4,000 CFS but it was perfect to paddle in. Maybe because it’s a wider river? Just wanted a little more info on how I should use the information. Thanks so much!
Good idea Grayson! Basically cfs is cubic feet per second (volume measurement). If the river is small, 4000cfs would be a torrent. A very large river could deliver the same cfs at a snail's pace...just totally depends. I will try to put a vid together...
If the gauge has been there for any length of time there will an avg flow for that day . This is an avg of that days flow for however many years the gauge has been in operation. so, the longer it has been in operation the better it is. This is designated as triangles........but nothing beats water time. I fish out of canoes and yaks so what me and Pete look for are differnent but the process is the same. I have a binder with every stream I have been on......it is a LOT. ex. there are 7 little rivers in nc. I have been on5. I have it notated that x flow on river Y is perfect or x flow is too high or too low. That way after time on the water you know for example that River Y is good to fish from say 200 cfm - say 600 but below that there is toooo much dragging and above that it is either too fast or too fast and probably really muddy. And like Pete said rivers are different. For example The Roanoke River I fish alot in the summer from Gaston to Weldon, I have fished it as low as 2000 and that is a trickle for it and as high as 30,000 cfm and 30,000 is floatable and really not dangerous as the river is so wide. My "preferred' fishing CFS for the roanoke in the summer is 4000 . My preferred fishing on the Haw River gauge is 200-350 cfm......big difference. Water time is the best way to learn levels. ****also, a few place get more dangerous to canoe/kayak the LOWER the water gets. one example is Weldon Falls on te Roanoke. at 2000-4000 it is fun but there is a good drop there....guessing 10'........at 8000 cfm and above the drop is not there and power boat can run upstream over it......at 20,000 I can paddle my kayak up over it as the falls are not there and the river is flat. i have run it in an open canoe at 4000 several times.
@@RiverKingsKayak Water quality. I'm from WV and occasionally I'll have jobs at the cape fear power plant. When I saw that river it looked like prime kayaking, but after a little research I heard it was polluted.
@@ClumsyWoodsman Up this way, it is actually really clean. There is some kind of something going on way down stream towards the coast after it turns into the Cape Fear. I still think you would be alright.
Nice video Pete....Luv Gabriels bend. One of my favorite places... when you were paddling up the south channel to the take out if you keep going to the rapid there is a big Eagle nest on the upper tip of that island to the right. If you look real hard at 5:30 you can see it. ruclips.net/video/_QInigMRniw/видео.html I know where about a bunch of them are that are in out of the way places around the lake....find most of them when deer hunting.
Thanks All for hanging out and making My Birthday a Special One!!
Happy Birthday Brian! Looking forward to our next paddle
Happy birthday!

Right on J S!
Thanks for showing us this is doable in a long boat. Went yesterday in my 14' Eddyline and had a blast. It was around 600cfs
Thanks Chery! It has been a while since we ran into each other. Hope you and yours are doing well!

Almost forgot long boat’s mater 😂😂😂
LOL!!!
We are looking to take our first trip down in the coming weeks! Any important advice that you can give?
Take you time and chase the flow if its low. Have fun!!
Can you safely swim in the haw?
In what regard? Water quality or danger posed by river bed

thanks canajian!
Hey Pete what kind of rear camera mount do you use?
Ok I just caught it on the merch video, the "tail boom", very cool.
It is a Ram Mount 24" bar with the 1.5" Ball Mount Plate

Right on Mack! I will look for that next time!
This river is as gentle as a lamb, come out west and try the Colorado, the Snake, the Arkansas, Green River, Utah to name just a few.
It's another story when this river is up...
I would love to Dillard!
