This is soooo good!!! You made my day . . . an instant Classic!! Your timing couldn't be better . . . we have a buddy that is really working hard on step 15 after his first swim since 1993 on the weekend!!! 🤣
6 years ago did a swim in gulf of mexico in white water kayak in less than 2 ft of water than got up bowed to the clapping sunbather and than survied the larger wave to have fun a couple hundred yards out Great job pete
Excellent lesson! Love it! That was so funny, I had to show Tara and she literally gasped when the swimmer bell went off. And it just got better from there.
Ha ha, nice one, I was half expecting you to do a re-entry, although, you may have ended up even more exhausted. I tried twice on the lake at the bottom of the WW course the other weekend after a swim and it killed my energy for the rest of the session. I'm glad you posted this and I would have posted mine had I not accidentally changed the camera to blooming timlapse at the start of the session :/ Thanks, Pete.
Practice the re-enter and roll. I live near the coast and play in the surf. Swam in the surf, more than a few times. Point the bow into the waves, wait for a set to pass you by. Then quickly climb back in the upside down kayak, and roll back up. You will still have some water in the cockpit, but your body mass will displace most of it. At first chance pop on the skirt on and paddle past the breakers. Then pump out any remaining water, as needed.
That’s me, my first time in a kayak, on a deep river, carrying all my fishing gear, vests and camera gear, did 10yds and flipped! Twice in 100 yds! Luckily the water temperature was above 0 degrees and we had 3 degrees air temp….what can i say, warmest day of my life. 😂
Forgot to mention that i had no proper gear for kayaking, a t-shirt, cycling pair of trousers, trainers and no helmet. A very responsible father and husband!
Woohooo! I knew there was something I was missing that makes kayaking even more fun! Aren't you supposed to take a bow when you perform all these steps properly? Maybe a high 5 if your friends are close by? (Un)Fortunately my skills aren't up to ocean surf yet. Next summer, though if all goes well. And I have the advantage that I will be able to release the center clamps on my Pakayak and easily wash all that sand out.
Reenter and roll or just dont swim in the first place. Practice relaxing and partial roll or scull to catch some breaths then set up and nail it. Practice failing rolls so if it happens you dont have to swim.
thanks, pete, for letting us know you are human afterall

yes, we practice those all the time. If I actually had more than a 40yd swim, I might have thought about it.

Do you prefer this P&H to the Barracuda? Seems more lively.

Great Suggestions, but it is hard to make a funny spoof video about swimming if you dont swim first...LOL
Pretty funny!
Thanks Vince!
