- Getting excited about the new Star Wars movie? Some of our men are...
Yesterday, four musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra gifted us with a beautiful concert of Christmas music on French horns. As they announced their finale, several men called out from the audience, requesting the Star Wars theme... and they performed it on the fly as an encore!
Thanks to Jeannie Getz, David Smith, Shona Goldberg-Leopold, and Ken Bell: talented musicians with a good sense of humor.
You ever just clap mid performance 😂
Yeah that was cringe
As a French horn player, I can say that this must have been very difficult. Learning the French horn is very hard and to keep the pitch like that takes effort.
+Marissa Maldonado You've got that right. On top of that, this was a surprise request from the audience - and they performed it after conferring for only 30 seconds or so, with no sheet music! Amazing skill.
And also trying to hear your self during the clapping I can barely here my self when that happens
Marissa Maldonado I play the French horn and mellophone (Marching French horn) I now have a goal. Be as good as these guys
I am going on 6 years now for playing the French horn. I have learned 2 octave C scales and all but come of them are slightly hard to hit.
Marissa Maldonado I actually disagree with you I've been playing the french horn for about 4 years and it isn't really a difficult but we all have different opinions
I play the French horn and it’s nearly impossible but this is *real* talent.
As a horn player I can say that must have been very hard to play because the French Horn is by far one of the most difficult brass instrument to play job plus the mouth peice is tiny so you need so laser thin air so good job
French Horn really isn't that hard B. Chill.
Luke8624 uh ya it is😂😭
Luke8624 bruh....
@@FishmanNemo the intervals between notes on a French horn are crazy close together compared to other brass instruments like a trumpet. Not even mentioning that going into a double French horns means you're playing an instrument not only in the key of F, but also Bb, it's one of the more complex instruments to learn.
JubeJubesGaming a double horn doesn’t change keys when you press the thumb valve they’re both tuned in F... And as somebody who’s played trumpet and horn the mouthpiece size isn’t that much of a difference if you actually put them side to side
look I am in band and everyone else think you barley need any air to play but they don't know the first of it
NoScope Gaming Yah
But first learn to spell barely
I'm a trumpet player and my ex plays clarinet but wanted to try trumpet because of me and one day (after we left each other) she was complaining that I suck and I am a showoff even though everyone obviously sees me as the best trumpet player by far. She was like he isn't even that good, trumpet isn't hard. It's easier than clarinet. My band director (who can play both) had to step in and correct the facts. Also, I don't know any fingerings for clarinet but I tried my brother's and I can hold he sound very good so give me a week to memorize some fingerings and I can play some songs on a clarinet better than her.
Troy Andrade I was told by my band director that the clarinet was one of if not the easiest to learn
I've got to say that these people are good at the horn, but I was hoping on a full arrangement for french horns, with backgrounds and everything.
Backgrounds? Like sets and matte paintings?
I want to play like this one day, I'm in middle school and I've only been play for one and a half years. But I have a goal for going to collage for my F Horn. I'm very proud in my work, I'm the only person in my band who plays the F Horn, and my director is very happy with my efforts. I'm teaching my brother and his friend how to play, and I'm very proud to help them out, I know I can be trusted. If we have playing tests from book to memory, I nail them all. I'm the best player in the band, it's hard to keep a role like that. Especially if you can't get certain partials. The horn is very hard, it's the hardest instrument in my band, we have wonderful trumpet players. Yet none give it a go for the horn. I'm a little upset about that, I started in middle of 6th grade and my brother isn't even in middle of the year and the band director is already checking things over with him to see if he can join the band with his horn.
I’d say that that message is a bit cocky, but in no way am I making light of the fact that French horn is very hard to play. Without the French horn, there is no band.
ACanOfCarrots good job, you will probably be playing a double horn in collage though, your skills with the f horn will help.
I am a sophomore French Hornist for the OTHS Concert Band, we have a plethora of phenomenal players and yet we have two French hornists and a Clarinet trying French Horn. I am also the best French Hornists in my band and I have two pieces of advice for you: 1) Stay with French Horn. It will pay off in the end, and 2) If you have the opportunity for something as Solo and Ensemble, take it. My first ever solo I was terrified and got a Division 4 (One of the worst classifications since it goes to five) and the next year I had 2 ensembles and both were First Superiors. French Horn is hard but it is super fun (EXCEPT UPBEATS)
I started with trumpet then I tried to mess with a trombone. It is easy, only moving the slide fast is the hard part. Then I tried a broken horn. The F/Bb key is broken so you hold it to play in F but it is good for me because my trumpet is in Bb so I played my music while my trumpet got repaired. It was definitely more difficult. All the partials and the mouthpiece is so small. But it was fun. When we go back to school after this mess I look forward to giving it a go again.
I love the french horn its my all time favorite
i play horn too it is hard
Edit 2020 i no longer play horn 😂
It's the hardest brass instrument to learn
+Ryan Phon while it is hard, I doubt it's the hardest brass one
For beginners
Ryan Phon I play the French Horn Double I am in beginning band I have a concert tomorrow. It is hard to play at first but then it is easy. The hard part is getting the spit out. ;-;
+Thebubble360 good luck with your concert, keep with the horn. it's a lot of fun
This interpretation was amazing! I am still feeling goose bumps.
Thank you so much for trying them!! :3
Great job guys! It would probably be better if you did more of the background/filling parts, though. Keep it up!
The midrange of the horn is literally melted caramel to the ear. The high notes, too 😍
This is awesome!!

French horn is difficult but not much, I play french horn in my school band and we learnt it differently.
Coming from a French horn player I honestly know this was a difficult task
Music ?
So amazing, much better than I can play horn, especially since I'm a trumpet player, but I think it would have sounded better and more professional if they would have played the filler parts as well
My son is a beginner French horn player
dude the horn is so easy
Yes I play French horn and I am 11 and it is hard
French horn is equally as difficult as any other instrument
Dot high school French horn

At 0:29 I feel like the woman started to speed up the tempo. Is it just me
I’m not old enough to play it
I thought it was decent. As a horn player I heard some notes were they messed up.

All the squeaks and missed notes UGHGHGHG
ya french horn is difficult
Also as a fellow F horn player, I will say making a pitch that high can be quit difficult. Amazing job!
People keep saying playing French horn is hard
And
For me it isnt-
E
It's just a little bit too fast
Wow that is a lot of cracked notes
Tate Wadsworth Lol can you do any better you have a terrible sound btw
+Tate Wadsworth I’d agree XD
You try playing French horn, as a French horn player, it's hard to learn. Go ahead and try.
I can play the whole song! They play only the beginning part :)
Wether it’s hard or not, it’s still a lot of cracked notes. More than I’d expect from three pros
they missed so many notes....
wooprtroopr French horn is hard to play, a lot of partials close together
BlueHood Lol can you do any better?”No”
Exactly
You’re trash
Waffle 101 you're a very triggered waffle
Waffle 101 yeah I could probably do a lot better lol
Jackson Hhh Everyone’s ears will bleed when you play bro
There’s so many cracks yikes.
It was their first time playing the music it was an encore and they played the music on the spot
bobsayshi9 okay but they shouldn’t be crack that much they sound like beginners
Madi Garcia They defently don't sound like beginners, like they sound actually incredible. The french horn is VERY hard to play, so at least respect their playing.
They look/sound so bored...
