Installing HPS Silicone Intake Pipes on the Z

  • The stock intake pipes on the Z are made out of plastic and rubber, which will wear and degrade over time. I’ve experienced that happen to my Honda and I replaced all of those hoses in my engine bay with ones from HPS. They will not break down like rubber hoses and are essentially lifetime items. I did the same thing with my 240 by replacing the cracking old hoses with new ones, and wanted to do the same thing with my Z.
    The stock intake pipes are restrictive and also feature an intake resonator on each pipe. This kit replaces the OEM restrictive rubber accordian intake tubes, which improve air flow and reduce heat soak while keeping the stock well-designed air box. With the stock air-box intact, you can replace the air filters with OEM ones to keep the cost of maintenance down, or you can replace them with upgraded drop in filters ▶︎ goo.gl/uxzAum
    Without any re-tuning, the HPS intake hose delivers dyno-proven performance gains +6.77 Whp, +6.38 Ft/lbs. Includes stainless steel t-bolt clamps for easy installation.

    Great vid Milan, thanks 👍👍 it may be worth dipping the ends of the hose in hot water for a minute next time to soften the silicone first, it may help with the fitting as they become more malleable, it’s a trick we engineers use for fitting stiff machine belts, etc. The Z sounds great by the way, very jealous 😜😜 just make sure that the speedo doesn’t get in the vid as some busy body will notify police and they can fine you for speeding 👍👍👍👍 keep up the great work buddy, it’s brilliant. 😜👍

    On the passenger side intake (4:45 mark) is how I found that best way to do in my 2014 INFINITI Q50. It was way more difficult than I had expected i.e. the silicone is very difficult to bend as you stated!!

    Very interesting mod I didn't know that intakes on the z's are so restrictive you actually save hundreds with these silicone tubes instead of going with cold air intakes

    Would’ve been helpful to explain why you didn’t go towards the cold air intake(CAI) route instead. But reading your comments helped lol. I never knew about the silicone replacements. I’ve only heard of CAI, and when I looked on forums they said for 06 350zs, it’s not that bad and with CAI it draws in heat bc theres no shield covering the open filter. But glad to know this is another option 👍🏽

    Hey Milan I’m super stoked you got a 370z. I have a g37 that I’m new to. You should do hps coolant hoses because i have them, but the process makes me a little nervous and your videos are great tutorials. Also the rjm clutch pedal assembly is what I’m really looking forward to. I installed mine a little while back and didn’t know about removing the spring. I want your opinion on what you think. Thank you!

    • @milanmastracci
      @milanmastracci  6 лет назад

      Paul that's awesome!! I have those same coolant hoses on the way with a Mishimoto thermostat :) I'm going to make a video regarding the install because it does look a bit messy.. Its a tight engine bay indeed.
      As for the clutch pedal, I'm excited to try all 3 options and give my feedback on which I prefer :)

    So bros4speed also got a lot of shit for installing silicone pipes but I believe this and the K&N drop ins are the cheapest route to go for a low budget intake since the intakes themselves aren’t a bad design. I personally wouldn’t go this route but not everyone is trying to squeeze every last hp NA

    • @ndk2k4
      @ndk2k4 6 лет назад +4

      bang for your buck, the silicone tubes and new filters for the airboxes are the best use of your money with a VQ. That, or Admin Tuning intakes if you have the budget. This mod gives almost identical results as the Takeda or Stillen Gen 3 long tube intakes for like quarter of the cost (of course those two would perform better, but its almost insignificant in most situations). The whole point is to remove the bendystraw section of the stock pipes as it creates unnecessary turbulence.
