THE BEST FREE MODIFICATION TO YOUR MANUAL CAR!!!

- What is amazing about this modification is that you will be producing LESS WEAR ON YOUR CLUTCH. An unnatural throw means you will be harsher on your clutch, eating away at the liner on your clutch disk.
If you have a modern manual transmission car, you might have a ‘clutch helper spring’. It is designed to make the throw of the clutch pedal linear, however the main drawback is that it makes the pedal feel numb, resulting in a very unnatural feel when driving manual. A simple google search will show you that many Nissans, Infinitis, Scions, Mustangs, and even Porsche’s have them. Plenty of vehicles are made with them, yet many enthusiasts remove them or swap them out to get remove/ reduce the numbness.
There are 3 different approaches to changing the feeling from the engagement point of the clutch pedal;
Approach 1 - Remove the helper spring entirely
Approach 2 - Change out the stock helper spring, with a spring with a different rate
Approach 3 - Replace the stock clutch pedal with an adjustable one.
Approach 1 is pretty much the same with every vehicle and you don’t need to purchase any tools to get this done. Approach 2 is different with every car, as you will need a spring with the same length, similar ID and OD, however a lower spring rate. Approach 3 is vehicle specific since you will need to find a clutch pedal that is made for your car for it to be an easy installation.

Your face when you drive the z without the spring says it all...also that free mod that actually works smile was the best..
I actually removed mine in my 350z while I was doing the master cylinder. It’s a much more natural type of feel for the grabbing point.
Just did this. Took like 5 minutes and damn what a positive difference!
Absolutely reccomend this to anyone reading.
I bet this is intentional from the manufactures, as the clutch pedal springs your foot up the faster the clutch engages causing less slippage and maybe less warranty claims from people prematurely burning their clutch....
Great vid Milan, I hope you were happy with the free little mod, you were smiling enough 😜👍👍👍👍👍
I have a 2019 370Z 6M with the sport package and the clutch action is different than it was on older Zs. Starting in 2018, Nissan is sourcing its clutches from Exedy and from what I'm told it greatly improved the clutch. I've had a Nissan mechanic who told me that the clutch action on these newer Zs is really nice.
I've found that the clutch is a bit tricky when it's cold. Once it warms up (like 5 minutes driving, or 10 idling in the drive) it's smooth as silk.
Removal of spring changed my car, never stall again, thanks bro!
glad you got a Z ...cant wait to see more modz you'll be doing in the future
Perfect timing on this video. I literally received my new helper spring TODAY.
Glad to hear it Andrew :) Did you buy the same one I linked?
Actually yes, I ordered it from CSC. However, after your review, I may try removing all together first!
You got a new subs in the building 🤙🏼
Thanks for the Vids, I gotta try it on my 06 g35 sports coupe 🤙🏼
You should also investigate your car's "Clutch Delay Valve" ... that will cause a bad clutch feel as well. They do it to make engagement smoother. Unfortunately it makes the clutch engagement SLOWER and less predictable, which in performance driving can actually increase wear on the clutch. As I understand it the Z cars have this. It's typically pretty easy to remove.
Finally a RUclipsr that gets to the point. And does what’s in the title
You’re awesome!
I like the snappy springiness for everyday driving..It's done because it makes it easier to dis engage the clutch fully for changing gears I reckon. But it's so good in traffic not having the pedal fighting against your leg. Can totally understand why you'd remove it...
I can honestly say I've never experienced this on my 2012 Z - it's one of the best manual trans experiences I've had thus far ...
The issue isn't the transmission, it's with the clutch pedal. If you try driving around a Z with the RJM clutch pedal assembly, you'll want one for yourself without a doubt!
Shared and liked Ur video
Just did this. Incredible difference. Reversing especially is so much smoother and easier to modulate than before. + wEiGhT sAvInGs
Gonna do this to my Z tonight!! Cant wait man... TBH i didnt even know there was a solution for this lol
Did you do anything to improve the clutch feel on your Accord?
I have a 03 vw passat and the clutch fells also a bit akward and i googled if my car has a clutch spring and it does, but i can only find replacment videos and posts, so im wondering if it only works with some cars.
Hopefully some can give an answer
I’ve noticed my clutch pedal feeling more stiff. (Don’t laugh but I’m wearing new shoes that might actually be less industrial, making the clutch feel a little tougher to push!) I’ve got a 07 Mini Cooper S. Did you say that you deleted the spring on your Mini as well? Thanks for the great video. I’m going to search under the pedals and see what’s happening down there.
Definitely gonna try it on my NISMO z34
Did you ever reinstall with a lighter spring or just keep it removed?
Has anyone tried this on the 350z? Until I saw this video, I'd only seen people replace the clutch pedal altogether
Does it damage slave cylinder?
Is this necessary to do on a 2020?? Or did Nissan upgrade the spring?
My 07 Z does this. I had no idea about changing that spring. Will be looking into that. New subscriber!!
How did you go with the helper spring Kevin? I have an 07 HR also and think of doing it.
I really need to see you mod the A4 to like 300 hp and do a drag race vs the Z and the Accord :D hehehe
My spring literally fell out after the clutch got stuck and now I’m debating wether to put it in you definitely do need a spring bc without it it’s ever so slightly putting pressure on the clutch leading to whare
What about lexus is220d clutch spring it's work or not?
Will this work in my 2011 GT?
Any more accord videos coming?
You could probably get an aftermarket clutch spring to have the same feel. It still is debated wether or not removing the clutch spring will increase wear on the throw out bearing.
Why would it? You aren't changing how much pressure is on the throw out bearing, only how much effort it takes to push the clutch pedal itself
milanmastracci I believe the spring is there to rest the clutch up to prevent the throwout bearing from touching the clutch disc. No immediate harm however but may wear it down
There's a guy on Ebay who sells softer springs that you can install. I just put one in mine and it made a huge difference in terms of feel and smooth engagement.
Upgrade to the RJM pedal like I did after the spring change, and you'll be in awe!
On mustangs it fucks up the master cylinder if you don't put a replacement lighter spring
I did that back in 2015 to my 370GT. Ive been driving with the modified pedal for 4 years and I love free mods like this.
My reaction after the mod was the same as yours bro soo much better!! I also did a couple more things to it. Let me remember what it was and get back to you so you can try it.
U gained 5 hp removing that spring, weight reduction!! LOL
the spring doesn't take off the "weight", in fact it adds to the "weight" but when you're in a stop for long time the spring is the one holding down that bch for you
Did you find any negatives to this yet? I dont want to remove the spring completely so I might replace it.
Did you end up doing this? Can't decide which to do
After 20 minutes of trying to remove the c clip with needle nosed pliers, just slid a zip tie through the little gap in the clip and it popped right out
If I were you I would write to Nissan in Japan and get a job in engineering their future cars.
I am going to try this on my bmw f10
I've driven stick for 20 years almost i've gotten a chance to drive stuff from the early 90s, to 00s
i'm currently driving the hardest to drive stick of them all a 2017 toyota corolla IM. its bite is very high, its very--- narrow like unforgiving clutch it feels like every start is a hill start. also your foot has to do calculus and trig while driving because too much or too little foot play causes the car to bob----
The g35 and the 350z shares a lot of parts in common
What car did your brother get
Without the spring it doesn't fully depress the clutch pedal as you drive. So when you drive, it will be slightly pressing down on the clutch as if you're resting your foot on the pedal
Who drives a manual car with their foot resting on the clutch pedal? There are countless vehicles made without clutch springs and work perfectly fine. No?
milanmastracci those countless vehicles are made differently and have a different mechanical design that help the clutch pedal fully depress.
Some people have bad habits of not putting their foot on the dead pedal after releasing the clutch. So this slight pressure on the clutch while driving will throw it your csc prematurely which is a common thing for our cars 370z
Jonathan Dinh no offence bro but u realize you comment is stupid right? No serious manual driver drives with there foot on the clutch Ur asking to get fcked every time u hit a pot hole with that set up not to mention if someone is knowingly reducing the pressure by pulling the spring out they would know that it wouldn't take much to press the clutch therefore not rest there foot there.
He said “as if”, not “as” you’re resting your foot on the pedal.
Mehmet Mallı yes thank you for understanding. I was just using that example as a hypothetical
You can just press the clutch that easily with your hand? My clutch does not move that easily when I press it with my hand lol I have to step on that shit with a lot of force to press it to the floor like you just did
Before 1mil views
lmfao
Will this mod make my g35 clutch lighter?
Yes!
Is this possible on a 350z 07, the spring location is much different then a 370z
You figure it out? Its WAY different
Removing now on my 350z and I know same setup just looks different as far as pedal assembly goes. Hoping it works
how did it feel on a 350z after you did this?
@@daneblackburn2803 in my opinion the clutch pedal felt better than ever before and felt like it maintained same pressure to my foot consistently when pressing making it much easier to operate and solved my issue of there being a point when releasing where it felt like it would hang up and very inconsistent making it worse so I took that thing out and haven’t looked back since. I recommend it.
@@johncarney6385 after a lot of research i decided to go with the RJM clutch pedal should be here next week!
@@daneblackburn2803 nice I’m sure it works even better and I heard good things about it let me kneo
I have the same problem, and turning my T control on if I’m a bit more aggressive!
Does the mini cooper has the springs too?
Yes it does 👍 We removed it from my GF's mini and it made a big difference
milanmastracci
Thanks I'll try on my wife's 2012 mini cooper. Car jerks alot on 1st/2nd gear and want to eliminate that
@@milanmastracci Ah just found this. That’s cool. No issues since removal? I’m going to check it out. Thanks again man! 🤙🏻
First of all. Love the channel..Just want to share my thoughts. The OEM helper-spring is one of the best designs ever. It's not necessary an issue. It's a new/different feeling that unfortunately a lot of new G/Z owners remove once they buy the car. The helper-spring actually helps the pedal feel a bit lighter, which helps in stop-and-go traffic. Helps for a smoother engagement. I've driven many OEM G's and Z's. The pedal is linear yes, but not 100% linear. There is a noticeable catch-point. you have to train your leg to feel for it (probably a day of driving it). Instead of removing the spring, and reverting to what you're used to. I suggest driving with the spring more often, you will soon feel the catch point. You'll appreciate the engineering. The issue is not the design. The issue is the user.
I guess it's made so once it starts to catch, even if you make the rookie mistake of dumping it as soon as the car goes, it slow downs the pedal to prevent stalling and to be smoother.
think the video didnt sync with audio to good still a informative video cheers
Aaron Ditchfield worked for me
I've never driven another manual car. But I've never noticed anything weird about my clutch.
good video don't have this setup on anything of mine but as a mechanic watching you do this I cant help but think you made it seem a million times harder then it actually is to do this .. the whole time watching you remove spring cant help but yell at you the whole time to remove the pin a different way with the same tool you are using ... like watching someone trying to hammer a round peg into a square hole ? either way I have driven many a manual as a mechanic and some always had a steep learning curve on them always thought it was the idiot owner not breaking in the clutch correctly ..apparently it was this type of spring assist clutch ?
What are some bad signs for a diff please help I have a g35 coupe
If the open diff is going or if your viscous diff is going?
Theirs a difference?
part out
Hey Milan..Where's the Audi?
Does this work for a 350z
Nino Brown yes
2016 model the same??? I don't have that problem
2009-2018 all have them. From the base models to the Nismo's, they all run the same transmission and same clutch mechanism.
i want to see where this goes lol.
I am the first to comment☺️☺️☺️
My r55 is like that
If you remove that spring you HAVE to replace it with a spring of some sort.
Why do you HAVE to? There isn't any pressure on the clutch without the spring. The spring only serves as a way to give your foot 'less resistance'.
milanmastracci the spring helps keep the clutch from reengaging. When you remove the spring the clutch can be accidentally engaged if the pedal isn't pushed all the way out. Your foot doesn't push the clutch pedal all the way out when you let it off. Over time the vibrations of the car can cause the pedal to be too loose. Your clutch may be fine now without it but overtime youre actually damaging the clutch. Thus the need for the replacement spring. Spring replacement or new pedal is the best option like you said but you shouldn't drive without a spring at all once you remove it. A softer spring replacement does help though.
milanmastracci no reply? Wassup with that
@@Diddy_Doodat I think this spring is there just to prevent wear on the clutch in case you habitually rest your foot on the pedal. A lot of people do that, not knowing that its harmful for the clutch, so manufacturers have to Idiot-proof it.
@@nightpz well what you think is wrong. Besides, he took my advice and replaced it. Go look at his other videos. I don't even watch his channel anymore. Way to respond to old comments.
Which spring did you order first?
I ordered the one from eBay and will throw it on as soon as I get it :)
Does the Honda have a spring
Not to my knowledge.. To be honest I don't think I've checked ahah
I removed the CDValve on my Honda , pretty good mod
You gotta gas earlier in the clutch pullback. It’s super smooth once you get it
My g makes a screeching noise once every week or two whenever I engage the clutch slowly, almost like a grinding sound, I noticed it would happen when I would use the clutch a lot like in traffic… any ideas?
Like I said it happens once every week or two, not too common however it grinds my gears when I head it
Milan yu look stoned towards end of the video..
I have an automatic Tacoma can I do this to it?
Bruh I drive the z almost everyday, spring still on , idk what people talking about
I've found that the clutch is a bit tricky when it's cold. Once it warms up (like 5 minutes driving, or 10 idling in the drive) it's smooth as silk.
Mate just get to the point, this video could have been half the time, u spent most of the time repeating yourself..
had to hit 10 min mark 4 $
Mate, just shut up and watch! You bumbling buffoon...
Hey man nobody makes you watch, me and plenty of others like milans longer videos. If you're not a fan and just need instructions on how to do something it's not hard to skip to the part you need to see
Gota squeeezzzzeee out that video so its over 10 mins. RUclipss 'rule' for 10 min vids making more money has caused so much dumb, repetitive and down-right boring content.
Did I subbed cuz of how much detail he gives, but it gets redundant, and he talks about every thing like the viewers never even opened a hood. Lol he does get good angles tho vids are smooth and clear lol it so right tho😭😭😭
Your clutch is on its last legs..
I HATE the stock clutch feel on those cars. If I owned one, I'd absolutely have to remedy the feel of the clutch.
I couldn't agree with you more!! It doesn't have a nice feel at all. I could expect this from a standard Altima or Micra, not from their sports car..
milanmastracci You should also research a clutch master cylinder brace. I don't remember if it's the 350z or 370z (or if it matters) but the clutch master cylinder flexes the firewall quite a bit which also spoils the clutch feel and makes it spongey. A brace keeps the master from bulging the firewall outward toward the front of the car.
Dude actually said "Final Solution".... yikes

Best free modification for my manual car? Why, I have cable clutches. I don't have this problem lol
Bro it’s not a good thing for the clutch to slip this is not something you should do LOL instead of this you should learn to drive
Damn shame Toyotas take too long 😅
French cars don’t need this
Boring
