Edit: TO THOSE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE WORDING, PERENNIALISM IS A PHILOSOPHY ABOUT RELIGION. PERHAPS I SHOULD HAVE USED THE WORD PERENNIALIST!
From the book, Faith and Fire. I did a presentation on perennialism last year. Neat stuff.
I think our bar for "nice" has gotten real low
I love the music you use in your videos, could you please add a link to it or the name for us in every one?
@@VonBrachsenbrueggesong name is at the end of the video
My first thought was Perennialism is the belief of some very extreme people like Evola and that fits with the Imperium
I don’t think anyone failed to understand the wording. Someone failed to use it correctly.

That does make a lot of sense.

Literally what the emperor punished Lorgar for doing....
Well, the ecclesiarchy is preaching what Lorgar wrote...
Black templars got their custom of chaining their weapons to their wrists from Sigismund, who learned it fron the World Eaters
It's a cruel irony. Emperor didn't want to be a God when Lorgar saw him as one, but by turning to Chaos Gods and ensuring their victory he essentially forced Emperor to become one, so humanity had some chance of surviving.
The Librarius was Magnus’s creation, the Chaplains were Lorgar’s, and the Imperial Cult was based on a screed even Lorgar discarded.
@@TheNemesis432 not really the irony is that the Emperor who hates religion used the basis of Christianity as the icons he showed/used when conquering humanity to unite them.
In lore its probly since its been around for ages and is in the collective unconscious enough to be recognized. I mean Giant Flaming Sword, great and glorious appearance, huge comforting figure, Halo, all projected into the minds of others. Christian angel iconography.

Now, life isn't guaranteed to be great or anything but it's not like every person is enslaved and forced to work in a continent-sized factory 20 hours a day

I REALLY want Ian McDiarmid to play Malcador in any show or movie we get in the future. I need to hear the little cackle he did as Palpatine when he's talking to the Primarchs or the Emperor
I wouldnt say learned more like there was no one to tell them they shouldn't worship Big E like a god so they did. When Rowboat Girlyman came back he was wanted to crush it all but too much time had passed and he was like fuck it we ball
Plus he's had to come to the conclusion of "Even if its technically not true, its still an "in practice true" fact, as the emperor's power is such that it really comes down to semantics about "is a God a God if its scientifically explainable but is otherwise unchanged?"
Being brought back from the dead by the presence of big E inhabiting his body is kind of miraculous anyways you look at it even if there's a "logical" reason for it.

Gotta love how all of this is, Lorgar Aurelin's work, the orchestrator of the Heresy
Still very funny knowing that EVERYTHING the modern day Imperium's doing is exactly what the Emperor as their dying wish had asked his subjects NOT TO DO, he never wanted to be seen as a god and expressed that time and time again and yet here we are an Imperium doing the ultimate heresy by denying their Emperor his dying wish.
I believe in one of the Eisenhorn books, a heretic learned that the reason why the Imperial Cult took over the Imperium was because, after the horrors of the Horus Heresy, some believed that promoting belief in the Emperor's Divinity was the only way to ensure stability across the ravaged Imperium. The idea that humanity had a powerful God as their sovereign gave people the hope and devotion to keep going and keep the Imperium together.
Even Roboute Gulliman, as disdainful as he is towards the Ecclesiarchy, admits that tearing it down and telling everyone "my dad is not a god" would destroy the Imperium.
You have to remember that everything the imperium does is for the good of mankind including using new lost tech as there are many tales of how easily corruptible each aspect of life there is. For example using and development of AI could lead to mass chaos corruption
If he didn't want to be called a god, why did he make himself appear 14ft tall and clad in golden armour?
Malcador stated this exact scenario to the Emperor during the Great Crusade.
People will start deifying him because he legitimately looks and acts like a god. This is best exemplified by Lorgar.
He dismissed Malcador, saying that will never happen. Again, Big E's hubris being his downfall.
Big E can be awfully dense about human nature sometimes
"blood soilled over a single verse"
I hope theres have been planet sized ears for centuries
It‘s easy to forget just how vast the Imperium of Man is. We are still talking millions of worlds and they don‘t have any AI to manage the flow of information for them. So even if they wanted to keep every single letter of their creed in line (which wouldn‘t even be practical cause it means many more rebellions) they couldn‘t.
Also in many ways the Imperium overall is very pragmatic. Sure there are zealots everywhere but the higher ups will usually take a world that sees the emperor as a big wolf in the woods but would 200% die for that wolf wholesale, over a world that somewhat believes the creed but would second guess an order to move all their men to a trench that‘s very crucial dfor the imperium overall
Their vs They're war was crazy
What if, all the pieces of The Emperor's soul are all worshiped by these different iterations of the imperial cult.
Considering the Emperor is a super shapeshifter, this is actually pretty funny lol
The quotes from the priest are some of the best in Dawn of War.
I had a homebrew world where the faith in the Emperor is based on old Celtic myth and legend- the Emperor is known as the "King of the Faeries", and keeps his court deep in the woods.
Gives me the same energy as, "Let me speak to the people, Piccolo".
That's actually new lore for me and i've been in this for a while thanks!
I consider it kinda sad. In earlier editions it was widely known that imperial religion and culture weren't so widespread. Galaxy was full of miriad different traditions, customs and cultures that still were part of Credo. Ministorum did Missionaria Protectiva things from Dune to make sure everyone believed that the Emperor is god of humankind, but myriad variations bloomed. There were only three rules each world had to follow: venerate the God Emperor, pay your taxes (in men, resources and psykers), do not associate with enemies of Mankind). Beyond that you could have democratic planets in the Milky Way Galaxy. The Imperium really felt like an actual Roman Empire where you had Roman customs, Roman governance and Roman administration next to unique local variations of compliant, but different, people. Something like local government and federal government.
Now all this magnificent variety just got crushed beneath great simplification that each imperial religion is Catholic Church in space and each imperial planet is the same Soviet regime in space.

Honestly if he learn the problems of the imperium or The relationship between the emperor and his sons He would do what he does best His long term manipulation😅

The main question, would he give himself for chaos or no
Decent chance he won’t but woild be funny a daemon prince sidious of tzeetch or khorne absolutely annihalate everything
But seriously, he would try to manipulate the world around the emperor being nothing more than a liar, sinner, betrayer. Another thing he needs to do is spread the word of chaos and get as much people to know about chaos

That’s what Rome did with other civilizations. “Oh, that lightning god you worship? He’s actually Zeus which is OUR lightning god.” However, they did have a harder time with religions that differed widely than their own like the monotheistic ones.
some of these religions are probably Loregar's doing when he was creating the imperial truth.

That's probably not good for his sanity.
We don't care how you worship the Emperor! Only that you do!
i do love that the Tau are falling to this same thing. the more faith oriented aliens with psychic abilities join the the greater good the more powerful their "chaos god" becomes, they literally have no choice if they wish to proceed with spreading the greater good to accept the fact that chaos will consume their race just like everyone else. Seemingly Shadowsun will be something like the emperor chosen by their god already, and farsight like horus, though he seems to be resisting chaos so far, i cant see him winning that battle.
Their only chance to avoid this is to become like the empire and destroy everyone who isnt Tau

The Why Files, say otherwise.
Strangely enough this is kinda how real life religion was spread back in early......"conversion" The Holy Roman Empire couldn't go converting thousands of people after executing a few thousands without trying to ad hoc relate their "pagan" gods to THE "god" without somehow mixing them together.
See this is where Im confused, Lorgar wanted to worship and spread the Emperor's name as a diety wouldn't he be satisfied already in the current setting?
IIRC the Roman empire before Christianity did stuff like that. They'd conquer a group and then intergrate their faith as different representations of gods in the Roman pantheon.
This is also the part of the story where someone else rolls along and immediately annihilates the population of said planet for heretical idol worship.
Even with a hearts and minds campaign on par with the ancient Romans or Egyptians, the bulk of the more fervent imperium still regard idol worship with extreme callousness.
Imagine you are greeted by winged angels in suits of armor so big they tower over your mightiest warriors, they tell you your god is an extension of the god emperor and it is ok to worship that effigy, only for your people a couple thousand years later to be visited by a man or woman wearing black clothes with an symbol of an Inquisitor to say "You're all heretics; you will be purged."
The empirium went full Christianity lol
Gaslighting on a universal level
Ol Lorgar won this one.
I dont understand your use of "perennial" here. Can you explain it for me, please?
Perennialism is a philosophy about religion
@@DeadliftsForTheDarkGods excellent, thank you! Ive now googled it and learnt something new. It's apparently the recurrence of themes across religions that suggest some kind of universal truth about something.
The very start, just no. The Imperium didn't slowly accept anything. It was a civil war that let the Imperial Creed replace the Imperial truth and empower the Eccliasarchy.
That actually was something that christianisme did for real, like with the celtics, they didn't reject their heralds, but made them saints.
Smell like buddha

In the real world the Catholic Church would combine christianity with local beliefs. Some official Saints might have more with local pagan gods than real people. Christmas Trees come from a previous holiday called "Yule". God throw lightening because of Zeus.
