  • A very frightened and troubled fell pony can panic and run in hand and under saddle. He is being ridden but shouldn't be! And every ride is stolen, How can this little horse get through all this fear and move forward in life as a riding horse and keep his owner safe.

I’ve been around horses my whole life, I’ve watched expert Horsemanship from various styles and disciplines. With that said, I came here to tell you and anyone else who cares to hear an old horsewoman’s opinion, that you Steve are absolutely, positively without question the very top of the heap. Your honest, selfless approach and pure love of animals is absolutely second to none. Your care and patience with humans of every level of horsemanship is impressive and should be a model for every other horse/people trainer. Well done. 👏

I love your training methods. My dad was a trainer in Canada for side saddle jumpers and when I said I wanted to buy my first horse and train it myself he said to go watch a herd and when I could tell him who was in charge I could buy my first horse. It took me a whole summer but I learned it wasn't the stallion but the lead mare. Studying the herd taught me so much. I love your connection with every horse because it is always different and focused on why they have the fears and anxieties that they. So sad to say most of their behaviors come from human mishandling. Love your videos.
The paint mare I bought back in 1970 turned out to be the best horse I have ever had and she passed away at 32. Rest in peace Missy.

Fell ponies were used as pack horses in the fell terrain as they could go where a cart couldn't, so they needed to be stocky and sure-footed. He's a lovely little chap who is bright and realises he has a leader in Steve. Calm and confidence are the basis for working with horses and dogs.

Absolutely loved watching the entire video. I learned a great deal. Stout horse and yes Linda needs to take lots of ground time. If she does that the results will be more safe. If she tries to rush it, it will all fall apart.
I wish there would have been the same opportunity for the Fell pony she sold that she said was aggressive and would but. The poor thing is misunderstood. He will probably have a traumatic end.
It’s not horses that need to learn, it’s humans.

In some aspects it reminds me of the amazing books of James Herriot, with the English landscape and the conversations, and in some ways, they have a ducumentary aspect. I used to resocialize rescue dogs & rehome them. It's hard emotionally but if we kept everyone then we couldn't help some other animal out there in a bad place & give them what they need to flourish & be in a place where they can move on to a new & better life. You take great care of all your horses & love them all. You have to plan each day so to make sure each horse gets what they need for care, training & love.
When you decide a horse is ready to move on to the next phase of their life, I have no doubt whatsoever that you know the home you have picked will match up to the horse's needs & capabilities. Horses need to have a job, there is a huge difference in how they act when you give them a purpose, it strengthens the bond between owner & horse.
The new owners will have more free time to devote to this training & advancement. I just don't see how becoming the center of attention can be a bad thing for the horse.
You'd be more selfish to keep them all just cuz you love them, especially when your path has led you to saving, finding what they'd excel at & rehoming them to someone that would help them to reach that.
You just keep doing you & let the naysayers feel how they feel. God Bless

One of your "best" videos, Steve! So much insight was revealed without needing to stop and talk about it. I love your quiet and methodical manner with horses. I agree with others who would like to see an update with Linda and her pony. My best to you and your team.
