Dear Young Family: I think you know negative comments are rooted in envy and jealousy. Anyone following you and who watch your videos all the way through, KNOW what motivates you and it’s not money. The fact that people have responded and support you so you are monetarily benefited are the blessings God has for you because of the love and kindness you sow. I have always loved horses (all animals really) but have not been that present in my life. The benefit you have given to me is helping me understand my human traumas and bad habits developed because of them. Your work with horses has taught me how to treat myself. I have epiphany-sized breakthroughs. I will be forever grateful. Please try to remember this when those gut-sickening comments get made. And remember it’s only upsetting you as much as it does because you care so much. May God continue to bless you in full abundance.

Hi all. I wanted to share my huge success with my new mare, all thanks to Steve and Tanya's amazing videos. I bought a 15 year old retired school horse that I believe had been in a wreck in the barn...possibly during an attempted live breeding. I've had 5 ottb, as well as a chariot pony, and never encountered a horse with so little disregard for humans. In 2 weeks we've gone from terrified and breaking away to walking in with head down. You're reminder of controlling the feet was what worked for her. Then once in the barn it's all about staying calm. She quickly realized that the barn is where the love with boundaries and special buckets are! Thanks Steve.
Steve you and Tanya are a brilliant team, in my opinion any nasty comments (especially from trainers) is complete jealousy because you are thriving through your excellent horsemanship and kindness❤️❤️

Hi guys,I’ve been a horse trainer and riding teacher for almost 50 years.I also had a saddlery shop and specialised in saddle fitting,especially the flat backed horses that we have many of in this country.I retired after the gainsayers and the negative people wore me down…..sounds a bit pathetic but it took the joy that I had from helping people. It's such a shame that you stopped doing the good work. I'm very sorry to hear that! I think, since covid, peoples' attitudes have deteriorated. We're living in a really troubled time, full of negativity and people are oppressed. The only way they can relieve themselves is to pass on their negativity to other people. I know how it feels. I'm very susceptible to negative thoughts and others can easily bring me down, but if we give in, the negative will win! I try to spread good will in other, smaller and more manageable ways. It depends on how big you want to be, but being bigger is being a bigger target. From the sounds of it, you did some really good work and should be proud of what you achieved 😄
I never thought that you did any of this for free. I wouldn’t expect you to and I think most everyone in your following just naturally assumed you are making a living doing horse training and clinics. The trainer has other issues and it may be a bit of jealousy. I hope this person can somehow find her way out of this kind of mindset. My mom told me years ago that she had a real problem with jealousy and it took a lot for her to defeat it. Jealous people sometimes randomly choose a target just to justify the mental anguish they are feeling. You and your team are genuine people that deserve admiration and encouragement. Thank you for all that you do.

Jealously is the worst most destructive emotion there is !!! I lived with it for years and being on the receiving end is not pleasant I can tell you. I’ve raised both my daughters with the knowledge the must affected and hurt people are the jealous ones, they tend to lose everything. ❤
Have just discovered Steve Young on RUclips. What a knowledgeable horseman! Results are proof of that dedication and knowledge. I doubt we would have many like him in Australia. Congratulations on being such a saviour for these beautiful animals.
@@marionwigzell7334 I couldn’t agree more. I have 2 rescue horses, thankfully they don’t have major issues, but I can’t imagine ever hurting them, emotionally or physically. I despise the way some people treat their horses, but am encouraged by the growing community of people who stand up against the abuse.
@@marionwigzell7334 The healing starts in many different ways and places… healing for the humans who didn’t know better of how to understand either themselves or the horses, and healing for the horses themselves. It really helps to reach out to understand where each one has come from, and as best we can to see how we can bridge to a more harmonious way. Harsh judgement of any being is, in my opinion, similar to the mishandling of horses. If we could all do with ourselves and each other what Steve does here with people and horses , what Klaus Hempfling and so many others also do to bridge the connection inside and between the different beings… that would be awesome. Look at how amazingly far Warwick Schiller has come. And listen carefully to what Steve says about how much he himself had to learn over the years! One of his most healing ways with both the horse and the humans they are with, is his accepting and redirecting, moving toward the solutions rather than harping on just the troubles. May all people see and start to integrate these wonderful people’s skills and heart mind perspectives!
As someone that does not own a horse and is unlikely to ever own a horse, I love watching what you do with horses. I love how you educate each horse with gentleness, kindness and skills. The transformation of the horses you work with always astounds me. Keep up the excellent work Steve, you’re doing wonderful work for horses and owners.
Having studied PNH in the 90’s here in the States, I am so impressed with how Steve uses the least amount of pressure and has patience when waiting for the results he wants. It’s the release that teaches. I learned to ask for snappy results which now I see was not the best. Maybe later on in the training one can get faster responses. I really like Steve’s feel and timing.
In my experience the response can be slow because the horse is asking you questions like - is this what you want? - am I doing it right? - are you sure? - is this enough? -what do you want?
Another great episode - stay strong Steve & Tanya, shame people have to be negative (but unfortunately a modern age internet theme). But the rest of us all enjoy the good vibes and learning we get by watching. They can always just trot on by !

I am from Australia and an old girl to boot. I know nothing about horses but both of my brothers spent their working lives breeding some famous thoroughbreds. I love your videos. All I can say about that other trainer is that the green eyed monster is well and truly showing. You are an amazing trainer and I watch for the entertainment. I hope anyone who saw the negative comments from the other trainer doesn't go within cooee of them. Good luck to you and keep up the good work.

I bet owners feel a million dollars when Steve praises them for doing well. He’s not only great with horses he’s great with people too. I love how Tanya knows when to talk or not to when filming. What a wonderful team they are.
Steve is amazing, I agree! He doesn’t think or talk negatively about others. Struck about ‘not’ hand feeding, his reasoning is in and for the horse’s benefit and makes perfect sense! You need to write books for folks who come after you can help their horses succeed!

Made my weekend having another video in which to lose myself. An escape from pain and the narrow world my life has become. Can't say thank you enough. Carry on being the lovely family that you are. I've been suggesting Steve's channel to people who are having issues with their horses. He has such a common sense approach to helping horses. Much less ego than a couple of the big name trainers out there, but more natural talent and true understanding of horses and how to communicate with them.
Have watched many trainers online and you are by far the better handler. I love the fact that your ways are reminiscent of the Tom Roberts method who was a trainer in my younger days. Well done guysx
My hubby now recognises your voice and Sandi Brock’s. He will say to the kids mum is watching the horse whisperer or the sheep lady. He is lucky that we have a no hooved animal clause on our property. So all I have my chickens and cats here in Western Australia 🇦🇺

I'm glad you're the kind of bloke who says Thank You with a hug, Steve! You persevered thru wind and rain (and more wind and rain and wind and rain), and made an enormous difference for these people and their lovely rescue horses. Sometimes a long necked horse, like a saddlebred, will unintentionally bring their head up and back quickly. If you happen to be leaning forward at that moment, it is like a maul to the forehead. I had it happen a couple times with a baby sitter type of aged horse that had no intention whatsoever of that result and have heard of it happening to others as well. Thank God, we all survived it with no injuries.
Hello, Steve and family. You are an amazing horse trainer. Do not let these negative comments from people affect you. This always happens no matter what platform you're on or where you are in life. You and your family are good people you don't have to prove that. I've had horses in the past myself. Was never taught much about understanding them. What if i'm wonderful to have someone like you around to show me. Never really understood well until I started watching your videos. There's also a dog trainer that reminds me of you. He understands the dogs and how they think. They don't think like people they think like dogs. If you get a chance check out beckman's dog training. He used to work with killer whales. Just like horses don't think like people they think like horses. I watch your videos daily. Please keep up the good work
The horses behavioral changes when you work with them on screen speaks for itself. The horses speak for you. Your explanations about everything from the horses wild herd behaviour and the importance of being the Alpha in your relationship with the horses in line with the Aplha Male in the wild horses herd are excellent. As well as your explanations of their brain functions and the fight or flight scenario helps people to understand their motives and behaviour as well as how dangerous they can be if feeling threatened. Even though I dont own a horse I find your videos both fascinating and informative. There are always trolls on the internet and comments often make me feel that certain individuals are like gossips they have got to say something which is nasty just because. However if someone's comments are thought through and positive and maybe even thought provoking these people can have a purely academic and interesting conversation where they learn from each other. I like your son do not like crowds and prefer to be alone with my close family circle where I can research subjects which interest me or watch various videos on interesting topics. Thank you yours is one of these and they add a lot to my general knowledge as well as allowing me to watch one of Gods noblest animals in action.
I am 58 years old and just beginning my horse journey with learning how to ride. We could never afford it when I was young, so here I am ...figuring there is no time like the present!!. I am a big fan of your channel. I have learned so much about horse behavior from watching you and just little helpful tidbits, like looking at a horses feet, taking pressure off (which also converts to my riding lesson) etc, etc. It's a bit hard with a lesson horse that is not mine, but he tends to be pushy and mouthy sometimes and gives a bit of a fuss when I am trying to bridle him. I always learn something from you. I love your saying "don't make it personal"... I am sorry you had to experience the negative comments, but when you are "out there" in internet world, it is bound to happen. I think you are confident in what you are doing and that it works and the look on your clients faces after you have had such tremendous breakthroughs with their horses is all the validation you need. So everytime there is a negative comment, just pull out that picture of this owner with the horse in her "bridling embrace" and know that you are making a difference not only to the owners of these horses, but also the horses themselves! Carry on!! (p.s....also love that you took the high road with this negative comment...speaks volumes!!!)
Horses are such beautiful animals yet I am terrified, truly terrified of them. My three daughters own horses and love them and I am just too scared to go any where near them . But watching your very instructive videos has changed my fear to cautious understanding. Thank you. I shall keep watching and learning.

Hi Steve and Tania, I would like to add something to the trainer. If you are criticizing Steve Young then you must not be confident about your own skills as a horse trainer or you are worried that Steve is going to take business from you. Steve has helped a lot of horse owners even very experienced horse owners who ask Steve to come look at their horses because they have tried and exhausted all their knowledge on the horse and really care about the horses. He has a gift with horses there is no question about it he as an outsider comes in and figures out what the horse needs to move forwards. He gives the tools to do the job right and shows the owners how to best move forwards with the tools they are given. He helps others help their horses get over their fears and teaches the horse that what ever they think they have to do to survive is not always to only way. Horses are prey animals they have centuries of instinct that comes right to the front of their heads when they feel threatened. they will fight or they will bold. he is teaching the owners to help their horses trust and accept that they are the Alpha mare or Stallion and that is a rare gift. To say Steve is a horse whisperer is an understatement to me and i have watched a lot of his videos. Some horse owners had lessons when they first started riding and other taught themselves by trial and error. not all owners are matched for their horses and there have been so serious injuries before Steve came to work with them. the owners of the horses have been so grateful to Steve for his help. and some have become good friends to them. Can you say the same. Steve is based out of Pembrokeshire in Wales and because of that he has to do thing that is easiest for him and his family. It hasn't been about the money but he does sell merchandise the same as any other business out there. maybe you should come up with your own merchandise and promote yourself in the same way instead of making a big deal out of things you don't know too much about. My parents always taught me if you have nothing nice to say then don't say it. and no truer words have been spoken. I think Steve and Tania are wonderful people who know what they are doing because they have learned techniques from other trainers un the USA. From real trainers that train horses like mustangs and really wild and angry horses, horses with very serious problems. Instead of being a negative Nancy why don't you connect with Steve and ask him to teach you a few things that you can learn how to do so you can help take the hugh load he has of clients that want his help, turning the negative Nancy into a positive Judy. Steve and Tania Charlotte and his other family members are great kind caring people who takes the health and well being of horses and owners very seriously, and they have saved horses ending up in the slaughter pipeline because the owners would have no other choice if Steve and Tania didn't step in to help them. So please do something nice and apologize to Steve and his family they aren't in it for the money they are in it to help, that being said he still has things to pay for the same as the rest of us the normal stuff as Steve has already mentioned. Steve and Tania and Charlotte and James i think you are all bloody marvelous and keep up the great work you are doing. Cos there are not enough of people like you in this world, the old way of beating a horse into submission is slowly going the ways of the Dodo. Unfortunately there are still too many people like that in this world and you and other horsemen and women are changing that thinking on horse and owner at a time. God bless you all love you guys.

I love that pony. I have a haflinger mare that size, flat back and round, too...you mentioned a breast collar, and I would like to mention in rough country a crupper or britching is good too, also a horse that you can mount from either side. I rode until age 82, then broke my hip (not horse related) and my Miz Buddy is 24 yo, so we are both retiring (she has cushings) and I sure enjoy your videos. One is never too old to learn something. 'Everything with grace' - NIce to see completely different horse personalties, same technique, responding well. I love your vids! I have always had to buy ponies at lower end of the market, which ment they have 'stuff going on in there' (heads- that is!). I'm sure lots of us have come across a 'Bella'. If there's a spark inside a human that saves another horse being sold on because they don't know help the horse well then Steve you've done your job ++. Nice mic - try a fuzzy cover over the foam to reduce wind noises even more. It should be like the hairy stuffed animals (troll hair) with all wispy kind of hair. As the wind blows, the hair moves, and keeps the wind from blowing across a more stiff surface or edge. Really impressed with both horses quick change.

I came across your videos a few months ago . I rode a fair bit as a youngster .. and remember this crazy little pony who shared the field / livery , no one could get near her other than her elderly owner.. She had to be sedated for the farrier as she had a problem with her back feet. , the farrier and vet both said it was ' phycological' ..she was seen by 2 different " trainers" .. both recommended she was uthenised, her owner refused tho .. She lived a fair few years , as wild as ever ... Such a pity she never got the ' steve' cure I think your so gifted and down to earth.. brilliant .

I get so excited when I get a notification that one of your videos have been posted. I used to be like glue after school and every weekend at our local stables, worked like trojans for nothing and got 1/2 free ride at the weekend. I then worked in private stables with two 17.3 point to pointers and then (many moons ago) was employed as their first girl groom at Lord Leverhulmes in Thornton Hough. If only I had a fraction of your horsemanship - my metaphorical hat is doffed. There are unfortunately some negative people in this world, but thank goodness most are positive. You and your lovely family deserve all the accolades that you get - much love xx
I feel the same way. When I was much younger, I worked at a couple of Thoroughbreds racetracks, usually assigned to the two-year-olds when they come in for their first experience being tracked. Many only knew bridling/leading, had their feet done and been ridden for very short time before being sent to the track--the rest of their basics were done by us. I would have given anything to know then what I know now, most especially Steve's methods! Loved working with the youngsters but cringe looking back--not sure how many mistakes I made but I'm convinced there were plenty, LOL.
This family is amazing and kind and their willingness to learn shows us everything (take note, horse trainers who already know everything(!). ) What wonderful horse owners. These horses are lucky. And Steve, as usual, is working miracles of what he's teaching us is commonsense in working with horses. Beautiful to watch.
Such lovely pictures at the end - they say it all as far as your handling & timing is concerned. I'm getting much better communication with my rescue pony from watching your videos and I've been with horses for 53 years!!! She's one that pushes on you a lot! She's such a sweet mare, but it's learned behaviour and as the companion, I've not spent the time working with her. She's now moving back when asked, in the shelter from just tutting and understanding that she doesn't need to be trying to lean out over the door chain as far as she can to avoid things 🤦🏼♀️😅, she is much happier, thank you & keep doing exactly what you're doing 🙏☯️🙌

I have to admit, I've been following your videos for a bit now, Steve, and I have to say, its amazing what you do with these troubled horses. They respond to you so well, and your methods are never harsh unless it really gets to a point where you need to firm up. I own a Thoroughbred/Appaloosa pony who's almost 20 yrs old now, smart as ever but, extremely sensitive and reactive. He's never been a bad horse but has always had "an engine". I basically just figured over the time I've had him, that he's just a hot head, when really, he's a very worried horse with a ton of energy and is just super sensitive to anything you do. He's very smart but also seems to want to please and just "GO" all the time. I've been using a bit of your methods with him, and he picks up on it very quickly. The only thing being, we just have to work on slowing down. I've had him for about ten years now and he's super willing to please, albeit, he can be very opinionated if you don't ask him to move often enough or if you don't give him enough to do. Because of how you work with these horses, and just seeing how they follow and settle down after a bit, it's nice to know that it is possible to get them to relax. Watching you work with multiple types of horses has also been really helpful especially since it's just a, "oh, it can happen with any breed, not just mine" when your horse decides to have a fantastic melt down across the arena. I do remember a day when lunging my nag and he did all of the best of his air ballet and acrobatics he had (Not bad for an oldie!) and another woman, a bit older and an older pony, was just watching and she went, "It's okay, we're just a lot slower" and I could tell she almost was worried about me getting onto my horse. It made me laugh and I had to go, "I'm sorry, he's usually never like this" but apparently when others are watching, it's the entire firework show on display. (Also glad to know he can still move just as well as an old man!) I've been riding my guy in a curb chain ever since he ran through my hands in a forest preserve the first year I had him. it looks sort of like the chin strap you have, but obviously it functions completely different. At first I had had just a simple snaffle on him. He is comfortable in his bit right now, but it would be nice to eliminate the chain. I'm going to try your chin strap and see how he goes, or what he thinks of it. I've been working on getting him to relax even at the walk. Our last ride was fine, but he got a bit sticky and decided to bronc out a bit at the canter (He only half attempts and I sit through it, but if he puts more effort than obviously that's a no-no). But even then, there were tons of different factors going into what made him go that route, and reprogramming him to softer means is going to take quite some time. (He is used to collection in the reins and gets super stressed when he doesn't feel any connection. I feel this is something that he relies on a bit too much and its my fault for programming him to do so. Basically when he runs around like a giraffe, I tighten and tense up a bit to compensate. Which he has learned that he can balance off of me for. As soon as I even shorten my reins he tenses up and its "time to go", but really, I feel its a ton of nervous energy.) Because he's so sensitive, I realized, I was using lighter contact than what he's used to, he was frustrated and/or just playing to see what he could get away with. He's never inherently been a "bad horse", there isn't a mean bone in his body. But by watching your videos I've realized that a lot of things could change and be a lot "quieter". It's one of those things where you watch these videos, then look at your horse, and you go, "Well shit. I wish I would have realized all of this sooner" and had done things completely different a long time ago. As someone has told me before, you can never do enough groundwork and it all transfers up into the saddle afterward. If anything, I would just like to get him to a point where we can just walk a few laps without jig-jogging and blowing through our nostrils as if a volcano is going to go off at any second.

Steve you are a good horsemanship guy, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. We all started somewhere and all have either followed other experienced horse people or did self taught. People got to learn from others or keep to themselves if they dont want to learn. To eaches own and we all learn from lessons in life.
Learned a ton from this one. No longer have horses but love watching and learning. It is now 1am. Thought I would watch for a bit, but we know how that goes. Love that you mention Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. Always felt good about what they did. Made sense. What is so impressive about how you work is that you pay attention to where the horse is, meet her where she is. That can't be emphasized enough how one needs to do what's necessary before moving on. I have always loved horses (all animals really) but have not been that present in my life.

Hi all. I wanted to share my huge success with my new mare, all thanks to Steve and Tanya's amazing videos.
I bought a 15 year old retired school horse that I believe had been in a wreck in the barn...possibly during an attempted live breeding.
I've had 5 ottb, as well as a chariot pony, and never encountered a horse with so little disregard for humans. In 2 weeks we've gone from terrified and breaking away to walking in with head down.
You're reminder of controlling the feet was what worked for her. Then once in the barn it's all about staying calm. She quickly realized that the barn is where the love with boundaries and special buckets are! Thanks Steve.
Steve you and Tanya are a brilliant team, in my opinion any nasty comments (especially from trainers) is complete jealousy because you are thriving through your excellent horsemanship and kindness❤️❤️

Hi guys,I’ve been a horse trainer and riding teacher for almost 50 years.I also had a saddlery shop and specialised in saddle fitting,especially the flat backed horses that we have many of in this country.I retired after the gainsayers and the negative people wore me down…..sounds a bit pathetic but it took the joy that I had from helping people.

I think, since covid, peoples' attitudes have deteriorated. We're living in a really troubled time, full of negativity and people are oppressed. The only way they can relieve themselves is to pass on their negativity to other people.
I know how it feels. I'm very susceptible to negative thoughts and others can easily bring me down, but if we give in, the negative will win! I try to spread good will in other, smaller and more manageable ways.
It depends on how big you want to be, but being bigger is being a bigger target.
From the sounds of it, you did some really good work and should be proud of what you achieved 😄

I never thought that you did any of this for free. I wouldn’t expect you to and I think most everyone in your following just naturally assumed you are making a living doing horse training and clinics. The trainer has other issues and it may be a bit of jealousy. I hope this person can somehow find her way out of this kind of mindset. My mom told me years ago that she had a real problem with jealousy and it took a lot for her to defeat it. Jealous people sometimes randomly choose a target just to justify the mental anguish they are feeling. You and your team are genuine people that deserve admiration and encouragement. Thank you for all that you do.

Jealously is the worst most destructive emotion there is !!! I lived with it for years and being on the receiving end is not pleasant I can tell you. I’ve raised both my daughters with the knowledge the must affected and hurt people are the jealous ones, they tend to lose everything. ❤

@@marionwigzell7334 I couldn’t agree more. I have 2 rescue horses, thankfully they don’t have major issues, but I can’t imagine ever hurting them, emotionally or physically. I despise the way some people treat their horses, but am encouraged by the growing community of people who stand up against the abuse.
@@marionwigzell7334 The healing starts in many different ways and places… healing for the humans who didn’t know better of how to understand either themselves or the horses, and healing for the horses themselves.
It really helps to reach out to understand where each one has come from, and as best we can to see how we can bridge to a more harmonious way. Harsh judgement of any being is, in my opinion, similar to the mishandling of horses. If we could all do with ourselves and each other what Steve does here with people and horses , what Klaus Hempfling and so many others also do to bridge the connection inside and between the different beings… that would be awesome.
Look at how amazingly far Warwick Schiller has come. And listen carefully to what Steve says about how much he himself had to learn over the years! One of his most healing ways with both the horse and the humans they are with, is his accepting and redirecting, moving toward the solutions rather than harping on just the troubles.
May all people see and start to integrate these wonderful people’s skills and heart mind perspectives!
As someone that does not own a horse and is unlikely to ever own a horse, I love watching what you do with horses. I love how you educate each horse with gentleness, kindness and skills. Having studied PNH in the 90’s here in the States, I am so impressed with how Steve uses the least amount of pressure and has patience when waiting for the results he wants. It’s the release that teaches. I learned to ask for snappy results which now I see was not the best. Maybe later on in the training one can get faster responses. I really like Steve’s feel and timing.
In my experience the response can be slow because the horse is asking you questions like - is this what you want? - am I doing it right? - are you sure? - is this enough? -what do you want?
Another great episode - stay strong Steve & Tanya, shame people have to be negative (but unfortunately a modern age internet theme). But the rest of us all enjoy the good vibes and learning we get by watching. They can always just trot on by !

I am from Australia and an old girl to boot. I know nothing about horses but both of my brothers spent their working lives breeding some famous thoroughbreds. I love your videos. All I can say about that other trainer is that the green eyed monster is well and truly showing. You are an amazing trainer and I watch for the entertainment. I've been suggesting Steve's channel to people who are having issues with their horses. He has such a common sense approach to helping horses. Much less ego than a couple of the big name trainers out there, but more natural talent and true understanding of horses and how to communicate with them.
Have watched many trainers online and you are by far the better handler. I love the fact that your ways are reminiscent of the Tom Roberts method who was a trainer in my younger days. Well done guysx

I don’t know why (horse)people tend to be so clique-y, it’s a bummer. What’s that expression- a mind is like a parachute, it only works when it’s open, & also You can’t please all the people all the time!! You turned what could have been a really negative experience into a teaching moment on professionalism and just general human decency.

Sometimes a long necked horse, like a saddlebred, will unintentionally bring their head up and back quickly. If you happen to be leaning forward at that moment, it is like a maul to the forehead. I had it happen a couple times with a baby sitter type of aged horse that had no intention whatsoever of that result and have heard of it happening to others as well. Thank God, we all survived it with no injuries.

You and your family are good people you don't have to prove that. I've had horses in the past myself. Was never taught much about understanding them. What if i'm wonderful to have someone like you around to show me. Never really understood well until I started watching your videos. There's also a dog trainer that reminds me of you. He understands the dogs and how they think. They don't think like people they think like dogs. If you get a chance check out beckman's dog training. He used to work with killer whales. Just like horses don't think like people they think like horses.

The horses behavioral changes when you work with them on screen speaks for itself. The horses speak for you. Your explanations about everything from the horses wild herd behaviour and the importance of being the Alpha in your relationship with the horses in line with the Aplha Male in the wild horses herd are excellent. As well as your explanations of their brain functions and the fight or flight scenario helps people to understand their motives and behaviour as well as how dangerous they can be if feeling threatened. Even though I dont own a horse I find your videos both fascinating and informative.
There are always trolls on the internet and comments often make me feel that certain individuals are like gossips they have got to say something which is nasty just because. However if someone's comments are thought through and positive and maybe even thought provoking these people can have a purely academic and interesting conversation where they learn from each other. I like your son do not like crowds and prefer to be alone with my close family circle where I can research subjects which interest me or watch various videos on interesting topics. Thank you yours is one of these and they add a lot to my general knowledge as well as allowing me to watch one of Gods noblest animals in action.
I am 58 years old and just beginning my horse journey with learning how to ride. We could never afford it when I was young, so here I am ...figuring there is no time like the present!!. I am a big fan of your channel. I have learned so much about horse behavior from watching you and just little helpful tidbits, like looking at a horses feet, taking pressure off (which also converts to my riding lesson) etc, etc. It's a bit hard with a lesson horse that is not mine, but he tends to be pushy and mouthy sometimes and gives a bit of a fuss when I am trying to bridle him. I always learn something from you. I love your saying "don't make it personal"... I am sorry you had to experience the negative comments, but when you are "out there" in internet world, it is bound to happen. I think you are confident in what you are doing and that it works and the look on your clients faces after you have had such tremendous breakthroughs with their horses is all the validation you need. So everytime there is a negative comment, just pull out that picture of this owner with the horse in her "bridling embrace" and know that you are making a difference not only to the owners of these horses, but also the horses themselves! Carry on!! (p.s....also love that you took the high road with this negative comment...speaks volumes!!!)

Horses are such beautiful animals yet I am terrified, truly terrified of them. My three daughters own horses and love them and I am just too scared to go any where near them . Hi Steve and Tania, I would like to add something to the trainer. If you are criticizing Steve Young then you must not be confident about your own skills as a horse trainer or you are worried that Steve is going to take business from you. Steve has helped a lot of horse owners even very experienced horse owners who ask Steve to come look at their horses because they have tried and exhausted all their knowledge on the horse and really care about the horses. He has a gift with horses there is no question about it he as an outsider comes in and figures out what the horse needs to move forwards. He gives the tools to do the job right and shows the owners how to best move forwards with the tools they are given. He helps others help their horses get over their fears and teaches the horse that what ever they think they have to do to survive is not always to only way. Horses are prey animals they have centuries of instinct that comes right to the front of their heads when they feel threatened. they will fight or they will bold. he is teaching the owners to help their horses trust and accept that they are the Alpha mare or Stallion and that is a rare gift. To say Steve is a horse whisperer is an understatement to me and i have watched a lot of his videos. Some horse owners had lessons when they first started riding and other taught themselves by trial and error. not all owners are matched for their horses and there have been so serious injuries before Steve came to work with them. the owners of the horses have been so grateful to Steve for his help. and some have become good friends to them. Can you say the same. Steve is based out of Pembrokeshire in Wales and because of that he has to do thing that is easiest for him and his family. It hasn't been about the money but he does sell merchandise the same as any other business out there. maybe you should come up with your own merchandise and promote yourself in the same way instead of making a big deal out of things you don't know too much about. My parents always taught me if you have nothing nice to say then don't say it. and no truer words have been spoken. I think Steve and Tania are wonderful people who know what they are doing because they have learned techniques from other trainers un the USA. From real trainers that train horses like mustangs and really wild and angry horses, horses with very serious problems. Instead of being a negative Nancy why don't you connect with Steve and ask him to teach you a few things that you can learn how to do so you can help take the hugh load he has of clients that want his help, turning the negative Nancy into a positive Judy. Steve and Tania Charlotte and his other family members are great kind caring people who takes the health and well being of horses and owners very seriously, and they have saved horses ending up in the slaughter pipeline because the owners would have no other choice if Steve and Tania didn't step in to help them. So please do something nice and apologize to Steve and his family they aren't in it for the money they are in it to help, that being said he still has things to pay for the same as the rest of us the normal stuff as Steve has already mentioned. Steve and Tania and Charlotte and James i think you are all bloody marvelous and keep up the great work you are doing. Cos there are not enough of people like you in this world, the old way of beating a horse into submission is slowly going the ways of the Dodo. Unfortunately there are still too many people like that in this world and you and other horsemen and women are changing that thinking on horse and owner at a time. God bless you all love you guys.

I love that pony. I have a haflinger mare that size, flat back and round, too...you mentioned a breast collar, and I would like to mention in rough country a crupper or britching is good too, also a horse that you can mount from either side. I rode until age 82, then broke my hip (not horse related) and my Miz Buddy is 24 yo, so we are both retiring (she has cushings) and I sure enjoy your videos. One is never too old to learn something. I have always had to buy ponies at lower end of the market, which ment they have 'stuff going on in there' (heads- that is!). I'm sure lots of us have come across a 'Bella'. If there's a spark inside a human that saves another horse being sold on because they don't know help the horse well then Steve you've done your job ++. Nice mic - try a fuzzy cover over the foam to reduce wind noises even more. It should be like the hairy stuffed animals (troll hair) with all wispy kind of hair. As the wind blows, the hair moves, and keeps the wind from blowing across a more stiff surface or edge.

I came across your videos a few months ago .
I rode a fair bit as a youngster .. and remember this crazy little pony who shared the field / livery , no one could get near her other than her elderly owner..
She had to be sedated for the farrier as she had a problem with her back feet. , the farrier and vet both said it was ' phycological' ..she was seen by 2 different " trainers" .. both recommended she was uthenised, her owner refused tho ..
She lived a fair few years , as wild as ever ...
Such a pity she never got the ' steve' cure

I get so excited when I get a notification that one of your videos have been posted. I used to be like glue after school and every weekend at our local stables, worked like trojans for nothing and got 1/2 free ride at the weekend. I then worked in private stables with two 17.3 point to pointers and then (many moons ago) was employed as their first girl groom at Lord Leverhulmes in Thornton Hough. If only I had a fraction of your horsemanship - my metaphorical hat is doffed. There are unfortunately some negative people in this world, but thank goodness most are positive. You and your lovely family deserve all the accolades that you get - much love xx
I feel the same way. When I was much younger, I worked at a couple of Thoroughbreds racetracks, usually assigned to the two-year-olds when they come in for their first experience being tracked. Many only knew bridling/leading, had their feet done and been ridden for very short time before being sent to the track--the rest of their basics were done by us. I would have given anything to know then what I know now, most especially Steve's methods! Loved working with the youngsters but cringe looking back--not sure how many mistakes I made but I'm convinced there were plenty, LOL.
This family is amazing and kind and their willingness to learn shows us everything (take note, horse trainers who already know everything(!). ) What wonderful horse owners. These horses are lucky. And Steve, as usual, is working miracles of what he's teaching us is commonsense in working with horses. Beautiful to watch.

I'm getting much better communication with my rescue pony from watching your videos and I've been with horses for 53 years!!! She's one that pushes on you a lot! She's such a sweet mare, but it's learned behaviour and as the companion, I've not spent the time working with her. She's now moving back when asked, in the shelter from just tutting and understanding that she doesn't need to be trying to lean out over the door chain as far as she can to avoid things 🤦🏼♀️😅, she is much happier, thank you & keep doing exactly what you're doing 🙏☯️🙌

I have to admit, I've been following your videos for a bit now, Steve, and I have to say, its amazing what you do with these troubled horses. They respond to you so well, and your methods are never harsh unless it really gets to a point where you need to firm up. I own a Thoroughbred/Appaloosa pony who's almost 20 yrs old now, smart as ever but, extremely sensitive and reactive. He's never been a bad horse but has always had "an engine". I basically just figured over the time I've had him, that he's just a hot head, when really, he's a very worried horse with a ton of energy and is just super sensitive to anything you do. He's very smart but also seems to want to please and just "GO" all the time. I've been using a bit of your methods with him, and he picks up on it very quickly. The only thing being, we just have to work on slowing down. I've had him for about ten years now and he's super willing to please, albeit, he can be very opinionated if you don't ask him to move often enough or if you don't give him enough to do. Because of how you work with these horses, and just seeing how they follow and settle down after a bit, it's nice to know that it is possible to get them to relax. Watching you work with multiple types of horses has also been really helpful especially since it's just a, "oh, it can happen with any breed, not just mine" when your horse decides to have a fantastic melt down across the arena.
I do remember a day when lunging my nag and he did all of the best of his air ballet and acrobatics he had (Not bad for an oldie!) and another woman, a bit older and an older pony, was just watching and she went, "It's okay, we're just a lot slower" and I could tell she almost was worried about me getting onto my horse. It made me laugh and I had to go, "I'm sorry, he's usually never like this" but apparently when others are watching, it's the entire firework show on display. (Also glad to know he can still move just as well as an old man!)
I've been riding my guy in a curb chain ever since he ran through my hands in a forest preserve the first year I had him. it looks sort of like the chin strap you have, but obviously it functions completely different. At first I had had just a simple snaffle on him. He is comfortable in his bit right now, but it would be nice to eliminate the chain. I'm going to try your chin strap and see how he goes, or what he thinks of it. I've been working on getting him to relax even at the walk. Our last ride was fine, but he got a bit sticky and decided to bronc out a bit at the canter (He only half attempts and I sit through it, but if he puts more effort than obviously that's a no-no). But even then, there were tons of different factors going into what made him go that route, and reprogramming him to softer means is going to take quite some time. (He is used to collection in the reins and gets super stressed when he doesn't feel any connection. I feel this is something that he relies on a bit too much and its my fault for programming him to do so. Basically when he runs around like a giraffe, I tighten and tense up a bit to compensate. Which he has learned that he can balance off of me for. As soon as I even shorten my reins he tenses up and its "time to go", but really, I feel its a ton of nervous energy.) Because he's so sensitive, I realized, I was using lighter contact than what he's used to, he was frustrated and/or just playing to see what he could get away with. He's never inherently been a "bad horse", there isn't a mean bone in his body. But by watching your videos I've realized that a lot of things could change and be a lot "quieter". It's one of those things where you watch these videos, then look at your horse, and you go, "Well shit. I wish I would have realized all of this sooner" and had done things completely different a long time ago. As someone has told me before, you can never do enough groundwork and it all transfers up into the saddle afterward.
If anything, I would just like to get him to a point where we can just walk a few laps without jig-jogging and blowing through our nostrils as if a volcano is going to go off at any second.

Steve you are a good horsemanship guy, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. We all started somewhere and all have either followed other experienced horse people or did self taught. People got to learn from others or keep to themselves if they dont want to learn. To eaches own and we all learn from lessons in life.

What is so impressive about how you work is that you pay attention to where the horse is, meet her where she is. That can't be emphasized enough how one needs to do what's necessary before moving on. Whereas most trainers seem to have an agenda of what to show, ignoring the important parts needed.

You are a true gift to horses and humans alike Steve, the changes in those 2 horses in such a short time was fantastic❣️People who don’t put themselves on RUclips and put in hours upon hours of work have no idea just how much effort it takes with editing and filming to earn a living from RUclips. Just like any farrier, vet, stable hand, jockey, strapper or trainer, you don’t do your job for love and fresh air you do it to get paid for your time and expertise just like that trainer does with his clients.
