1:00 the sweet angry sound of a V8 in the tunnel. Love it! I put a cat back on my 05 XC90 T6 and I mean it sounds pretty angry when I put my foot down and I like the sound but damn… that V8 sound And I always get questions about this so I’ll address it now. But yes, I still have the original transmission, with 157k miles on it, still running strong!
@@shaunbeaulieuxc90v87 I’m just as surprised as you are! And sort of yes. I also usually do all highway mileage and what I do is lock it in 4th as soon as I’m up to speed. I’ll put it in 3rd when passing and I try my best to “rev match” if that’s even a thing you can do in an automatic, because when I do leave it in drive and not manual, I know where all the shift points are so I’ll back off to the point where I “rev match” it when it’s about to downshift, and I ease the pedal down after it downshifts then lock it in gear until I finish accelerating so it doesn’t jump around and upshift when I don’t need it to. After accelerating I put it back in drive (because drive downshifts a lot smoother than manual which makes sense) to let it downshift. And like I mentioned when I’m up to speed on the highway (75-80mph) I lock it in 4th and cruise I don’t take it out of 4th until I have to pass, or I get on another highway. That sounds really complex and all over the place. I hope it made sense. It also sounds crazy but I guess I might be on to something here if it’s lasted me this long.
@@SongLyricsHD Fun to see another T6 owner! You’re on to something. I’m honestly not really sure how people killed so many transmissions in the T6. I have an 04 with a little over 100K on the 4T65 (a replacement, but due to trans cooler failure, not the trans itself) and a tune making about 310 HP. I generally avoid WOT from stoplights, try to roll into acceleration. I do rev it out past 5K pretty often though, I’ve towed with it too. Shift kits help speed things up under load - I have one from intense racing. I bring the car to the IPD Volvo meets every year, people who know are always surprised to see a T6 alive (and tuned). The weak points in the 4T65 are: accelerated clutch pack wear from slow shifts and lack of fluid changes leading to max adapt codes and banging (stock conventional fluid has ~30K mile life but no one changed it), weak input shaft/final drive and issues with the pressure control solenoid. Input shaft/final drive can’t be rectified without a rebuild, but a shift kit and proper fluid changes with synthetic lubricant can really help extend life.
@@phishphood423 Likewise!!! I’ve only seen 1 other T6 in the past 3 or so years. There are not many of our cars left that’s for sure! And exactly! If I can, I never come to a complete stop (at stop signs) and also roll and ease the throttle down into acceleration until I feel it get a good grab. I’m not sure how people kill these things either. I now have 163k miles on it and still going! I myself have a led foot and I get it up to 6k RPMs RARELY but I do it. I try my best not to go over 4k. And I’m just as surprised! I haven’t tuned mine because I thought Volvo locked it but that’s really good to know. I have messed with some of Volvos parameters that they will let me change though thanks to my friends dad who works for Volvo and has a Volvo scan tool but I wouldn’t exactly call what I did tuning 😂. Mine makes an estimated 296HP. I do want an official Dyno result though. So if you don’t mind me asking how did you tune yours? What equipment? I’ve been trying to look but I can’t find anything that claims it will work. I’ve been thinking of attending one of those meets at some point so I’ll be on the lookout for yours if I ever do go. Won’t be hard to find!
@@SongLyricsHD Whoops I meant to respond days ago and just forgot! There are not many T6 left at all, I looked last year and I think the UK statistics show only a hundred or so left registered over there! To tune anything P2/P3 platform, you need a DiCE cable, I’m gonna guess your friends dad has one since you said he has the scan tool! There are a couple companies that do it, and it depends if you want an off-the-shelf tune or a custom one. IPD sells an off the shelf tune, I think it’s about $700, and then Hilton Tuning is the main custom tuner with experience on the T6 afaik. I’m sure there are others, but he’s the one I know of! I think it’s actually cheaper at as little as $400 or so for the base tune if I remember. I ended up doing a tune through VDASH. It’s an app that runs on windows PCs. Works with the DiCE cable, tune was $350 I think? VDASH is not super easy to figure out, but once you do it’s usable, honestly easier than Volvo’s VIDA. You should come to the big anniversary garage sale in May! (21st I believe) Last year we had well over a hundred cars, cool parts used and new, and a raffle! Plus a discount on IPD stuff!
