- Here's my review of the Google Pixel 8 Pro. Very similar design, but some great software changes make this a solid option for the best smartphone. It's also relatively cheaper to other flagships as well!

The Pixel 8 Pro has some awesome value (especially if you live here in Canada compared to the iPhone or S23 Ultra). It still has the best computational photography and feel that the 7 year update is the low-key winner on it!
Does it do 4k hdr 60p with lens swiching all 3 lenses without being late with pixels?
True I almost considered getting the Pixel 8 over the pro because I don't really lean into photo editing features they locked out, especially because adventurous users can unlock them. But that extra 4 gigs of ram does make a difference is how smooth the phone runs.

Yes but they neglected to release the 1 tb version here and even 512gb is available only in black which is ridiculous and porcelain is only in 128gb lol..total joke.

Reallllly debating taking the leap from iOS to Android with the 8 Pro. Scared of leaving the "eco system", but iPhone just feels so stale now. Great review as always!

I just recently switched from iPhone to Pixel and it's totally worth it. iOS felt so boring I wanted a refresher. I'm glad I switched to Android. So many cool things you can do compared to Apple. No regrets. I say go for it.
I have to use an iPhone 15 for work and iOS just sucks as an user experience. It’s just not intuitive to me. The hardware may be good although the iPhones always seem top heavy and unbalanced but the usability is so archaic.

My Pixel 8 Pro arrived today. Compared to my Pixel 6 Pro the screen is actually slightly smaller.

I just received my 1st pixel phone. It's annoying that you can't remove that Google bar at the bottom. ppff. But my question is; how do you remove the date and degrees at the top left? That doesn't work here? I am new to pixel software.
What I also notice, I have had the Samsung S23 and the Ultra and the OnePlus 11 and I notice that these smartphones work smoother.
I also stutter on Twitter and some other apps, how is this possible? ppf. I hate it.
I also have a football app called sofascore, I have already deleted the app; I can't even log in lol. And yes, everything is correct, with the OnePlus 11 that I have had for an hour, it works without any problem.
Not so positive here so far. Samsung and Oneplus are faster. I'll give it some time, but if there are no improvements, the pixel will quickly be exchanged or sold.
Everything I posted about the pixel doesn't work. You have to use a nova launcher which I didn't want at all.
I was also not very satisfied with the brightness and the screen, the brightness is not as high as you think and the screen is matte.
The video camera also leaves much to be desired and the zooming in and out.
Just look at the difference between the iPhone/Samsung and the Pixel 8 Pro during the day. Especially the iPhone, which is the best at video camera and zooming in and out.
I bought the iPhone 15 pro max, so happy with it.

I've owned every XL and Pro model Pixel since the original Pixel XL and I can honestly say that the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are the BEST Pixel phones to date! I preordered the Pixel 8 Pro 256 GB storage in Porcelain for $1100 and got the Pixel Watch 2 free ($350 value) for free. I received $420 for my Pixel 7 Pro trade-in. That means I received $1450 worth of merch for only $680. A deal I could not pass up! I love the Pixel 8 Pro so much that Pixel 9 Pro will have to be spectacular for me to upgrade again. I know that the Tensor G5 for Pixel 10/10 Pro will be manufactured by TSMC (same company that makes Apple's A17Pro SOC) so I may have to upgrade to Pixel 10 Pro when that is released.

I bought the 8 and I am truly impressed. The size and build quality is extremely high. Added a Latercase to it, which retains its form and gives direct access to the buttons and ports.

How do the photos do pixel wise if it was to be printed?
My older pixel seems to be blurry when zooming in on a photo that I'm hoping to print larger than the screen size.
Yes. I'm hoping the 8pro has better quality than the 6pro for enlarging pictures.
Initial reports suggest that some of the AI generated effects on some photos do not hold up too well when blown up in size and printed.

Can you address the overheating issues from the past pixel phones whether this has the same or has improved now . My Pixel 7A heats like in 2-3 minutes of video usage and throttles the whole phone performance down.
Samsung really nailed their blue with their S22, S23, and fold5 series. I'm happy Google jumped on board!

Karl, great video. One questoon for you though - in Canada which AI features are locked out, if any? I know magic editor works, but what about magic compose and summarize? I picked up an 8 pro, the pixel tips app mentions magic compose but it doesnt appear anywhere, and I cant seem to find summarize either. Thanks for your help.

How is the fingerprint reader? Is it the same as the 7? Or have they fixed the unreliability issues with the sensor?
Its the same, but with the new good face unlock feature it shouldnt be a problem. I had every pixel since the 4 XL and actually never had a problem with it
Still optical but it feels like it's slightly improved.
I second the view that face lock is pretty good except in low light conditions. The fingerprint reader is arguably the worst among any flagship phone. I'm constantly having to make multiple attempts for my print to be recognized.

I had a iPhone 11 pro Max wasn't going to upgrade because I'm on a budget right now but spectrum had the pixel 8 pro for 400 Dollars and on top of that I traded in my iPhone 11 pro Max and got it for even cheaper I'm literally only paying 7 Dollars a month for this brand new phone

Ultrasonic is better but the optical on the 8 has improved.

I just ordered the phone pro pixel over the iPhone pro max….i really wanted the pro res but I couldn’t resist a free watch and the AI cookies. I'm sorry but I don't understand the hype about the interpreter mode at 2:54. Don't all android phones with google assistant have this? I tried your example with greek language on my lg v40 and it worked pretty much the same. I don't think it's a pixel exclusive feature.
It's just quicker, easier and more seamless. Just like a lot of upgrades to the Pixel

Awesome looking phones! I didn't like the 7 series due to their sharp corners especially coming from iPhone. I wonder how the keynote speakers felt though explaining the temperature sensor on the back of these phones like it mattered.

Yeah I can't do another Pixel phone I have the 7 pro and the thermals are just really bad not to mention they don't hold their value well at all. Even the Google store is offering more for trade if you trade in your iPhone 14pro max vs trading your pixel 7pro for a pixel 8 pro. So the Pixel 7 pro will be my last Pixel phone, I'll be switching to a Samsung s24 ultra when it drops.
It’s odd I don’t know why iPhones hold there value so much more than Google and Samsung. I am tempted by a pixel 8 pro I currently use a iPhone 13 Pro and they will give me £575 trade in.
While it is absolutely true that iPhones hold their value better then other phones, Google is offering so much more trade in value for iPhones because they want you to switch. I did and I didn't regret it, but that's just my personal opinion.

All reviewers that get their devices ahead of the release date are not allowed to post their reviews until a specific date and time, which is why they all tend to come out at once.
They're sampled devices with an NDA embargo. If they posted any earlier they'd at minimum lose access to future devices, but could actually get sued.
