    Donald, I have missed your videos. I know you were under the weather for a while. Hope you are doing better. I have been watching this particular video for the last 9 years and have dreamed of owning a set of cultivators like this. I finally got around to ordering a set and they were delivered today. I got them all assembled and am just waiting on dry weather to use them. Take Care my friend.....Tim

    @kmaughe ... Skipping a row simply makes it much easier to control weeds / grasses and also makes harvesting a breeze. Corn is one of the few vegetables I don’t skip rows with because of pollination issues. I till approx 2 acres of garden space but usually only have about half of that planted at any one time. This gives me room to plant the fall garden while still having the summer vegetables producing. This year I’m trying something new with the fall garden. Video coming soon.... Donald

    Hi, Thanks so much for your videos. After watching your videos we have made several changes in our gardening techniques - - and it is going great so far. We have used a quick hitch and row builder for the first time and just love them. Can you help me with a supplier for the adjustable shank cultivator as we can't find one anywhere. Have been gardening for a long time and just goes to show one is never too old to learn something new! Thanks again. Patricia

    @palmerballer1 ... cultivating is removing any small grass and weeds that are coming up. Depending on the weather, corn is cultivated 1-2 times before lay by. Once it gets too tall it's on its own........Donald

    @webcajun Thanks the videos! I took your advice, searched out Stavens, and then placed an order there! The only place I've found the right stuff without having to buy a whole "kit". This will complete our gardening attachment set up with a new toolbar to go with the tines / hiller discs / shanks we already have. Should be much better than the old "v" shaped frame cultivator used in previous years which was a pain just because it hung too far out the back of the tractor Thanks Again!.

    Can you share the brand of the cultivator in the video. Having the ability to change the depths that the sweeps work seems like a unique feature. I am in the market for a single row cultivator but most can only be adjusted from side to side. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

    I'm planning on getting a cultivator and trying this method in the upcoming season. My question is what do you do when the plants are too tall to go over with the tractor? Would you recommend the Hoss wheeled hand cultivator at that point?

    • @webcajun
      @webcajun  10 лет назад

      When the plants get too tall it’s time to use a hoe in between and right next to the plants. As for the middles, I skip a row between rows, giving me room to run the tractor and tiller to clean them up. If you don’t have the room to skip a row then the easiest would be to run a walk behind tiller to keep them clean. I’ve only used the Hoss with the planter attachment and can’t comment on how well it cultivates……Donald

  • @231MasseyFerguson
    @231MasseyFerguson 10 лет назад

    Do you run your cultivator through the rows BEFORE the crop comes up, just to listen the soil some, or do u wait til grass starts growing after the crop is up?
    Planted my corn 6 days ago and haven't seen any sprouts yet. But the furrows are starting to crack open, so that may be a good sign. There is a "crust" over the top of the furrow. I hope the sprouts can break through it!!
    Thanks

    • @webcajun
      @webcajun  10 лет назад

      I’ll normally wait till I see grass growing before running the cultivators. If you can keep the top of the row moist the seeds will have no problem coming through…..Donald

    That is much easier than using a hoe on your crop and I have not forgotten your tip on using an empty row between each used row. I have a middle buster plow, a PTO driven tiller, and a landscaping rake and need a cultivator now. I am now looking for a good turning plow and think that I know where I can get one locally.
