Welcome. My husband died suddenly in our home of a heart attack in December 2019. Then covid. I WAS at a lost. I am 79 yrs old and trying to cope with it all. I have sewed quilted embroideried cross stitch but but just couldn't feel happy. Then my daughter got me going on RUclips. Soon I stumbled into flosstube. Happy and busy with my cross stitch. My favorite is Blackbird and I love making strawberries. I loved your first RUclips. You sis great. I love Shanda too.
Thank you for sharing your story with me. I'm so glad there is this amazing and encouraging community at our fingertips to share our challenging time with, yet find joy and a healthy way of keeping our minds and hands occupied with something lovely! So glad you found my videos and I sure hope to hear from you again. My plan is to do weekly videos....but time sure does fly by somedays!
Our stories are so alike. I haven't cross stitched in nearly 30 years. My kids are grown and out of the house. I recently started scrapbooking again and then I found flosstube. I've purchased a few items and I'm learning, like you, this is all new again.
I’m now binging these older floss tubes after finding you a while back. Your now in Colorado and I’m still loving your videos. We have a lot in common when it comes to how we started quilting and cross stitching. Hugs from Arkansas. ❤
I’ve been on the fence since 2020 about doing a floss tube/ quilt tube. I’ve been a quilter since 2001 but cross stitched in my early 20’s but stopped when I bacame a mom in 1993. Son is now 30, I’m holding my first grand baby (girl) born n October 2023, closed my longarm business of 8 years due to an unexpected medical procedure…..Which is why I started back to cross stitching. I needed something other than hand embroidery to do. And like you I went down a huge rabbit hole. Now I’m torn between my quilting, hand embroidery, wool appliqué and now cross stitching….. I’ve been collecting patterns and fabrics but yet to have a fully finished project🤭🤷🏼♀️😂
Thank you Bonnie for sharing. I too started again doing cross stitching. I first started in 89 when I was pregnant with my first child. I learned by purchasing a baby announcement. I had no idea that I had to start in the middle of the chart. Needless to say the finished product was off center. I started again because of the COVID stay at home. And by watching you I get inspired by you. Thank you one again. Keep doing what your doing. You are doing amazing. God Bless.
I'm so glad you picked up needle and thread again! I find it such a positive way to deal with my crazy and then we get lovely projects to enjoy. Thank you for your encouragement and I'm happy to have you as part of my dear little stitching family!
I just found you and I'm SO excited to have found a stitcher that I can relate to! Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and talent. It had been at least 5 years since I picked up my cross-stitch (being an avid cross stitcher from the 80s and into the early 2090s). I have discovered my love for it again this summer when I started making Christmas stockings for my new grandbabies. I actually found your 3rd video first but halfway through it, I decided to find your first video and watch them in order! Thank you Bonnie. You're reinforcement that stitching is a calming way to self heal is spot on!❤️
You’re working your way though my videos! So cool, just don’t get tired of me, yet! Glad we have so much in common, so it’s like hanging out with a friend when you’re listening to my stories.
Bonnie, Welcome! Your first video is wonderful and inspiring. I'm fairly new to FlossTube, too. I recently moved from KY to Northwest Ohio and knew no one. After unpacking all my cross-stitch things from years back and some more recently, I discovered FlossTube and have been able to connect with some wonderful stitchers. I, too, am a quilter and wool appliqué stitcher. I was inspired by so many FlossTubers that I started my own channel - The Just BeeCuzz Buzz - in July. I would love it if you stopped by for a visit. Blessings for the day. Happy Stitching.
What a great way to get connected when you're in a new area. With our lack of connection in 2020, I just needed to feel close with other stitchers, as well. I'm so glad you found me, and I will definitely visit your channel! Love it that we're both new to this.
Enjoyed your first video today. I certainly loved it all. Another person you should watch is Quilt Roadies. Her name is Anna can't think of her last name, but she loves and does a lot of quilting and wool applique. She also has a Stitch Roadies floss tube. There are so many great flosstubers. Will see you next time.
Welcome Bonnie! Just so you know there is no cure for Cross Stitch Fever! Be sure to check out these ladies: Rags to Stitches, Stitching by the Lake, Half Stitch Cross Stitch, Jan Hicks Creates, and Sunshine Stitchers (2 ladies and 1 guy all friends here in FL). Also Becca of My Stitchy Home is a stitcher and quilter. Kitten Stitcher is great and has an on-line shop. You've already mentioned 2 of my favorites - Mischievous Stitches and Handworkmaniac. I've stitched on and off since the '80s and fell into the FlossTube hurricane 2 years ago. I still have some unopened kits from back then but I have more stash now due to all of the enablers that happily share their addiction with us. Beware, you will get infected with their joy, love and inspiration.
Wow! You gave me a wealth of more videos to find and enjoy. I can't get enough of this lovely community and the encouragement and passion we can all share in our stitching. It's funny how I did love and enjoy stitching in the 80s and 90s, but now, I see it with new eyes (Oh, actually OLDER eyes!) but I'm finding the richness of so very many patterns and designers and the threads and linens......just enchanting!!
Welcome to the new cross stitch community. I also put my cross stitch down 20 -30 years ago. I love to embroider, quilt, applique (both cotton and wool) and I paint. I have only been back into cross stitch about one year. It is very addictive and now I have a large stash of patterns, floss and linen along with everything else. Too many fun projects and there never seems to be enough time to everything. My one suggestion for you is to watch some flosstube about stitching in hand before you invest in too many hoops. I find that my stitches look much better in hand. It did take awhile to catch on, but it is worth it. Enjoy.
Wow, sounds like we have alotin common with needle and thread! Oh, yeah. I'm gathering quite a few patterns, but the fabrics are harder to find with the low stock many places have on hand. I've got enough to keep me out of trouble for awhile! I'll take your advise and check out the stitching in hand. I've seen several tutorials, but I was not sure how the stitches would look. I'll give it a go!
Welcome! I use a light box that is as thin as a tablet. It was the one that Hello by Liz Matthews recommended. It was on Amazon and doesn’t have a brand on it, just a G. It was on her Amazon list. I bought one for my mother also and she likes it. Your quilt is strikingly beautiful! I’m trying a little bit of quilt as you go but am a 35+ year veteran crossstitcher! I’m in the Scattered Seed club as well. I used to always use Q snap frames. Since retiring, I need lighter hoops so I bought antique wooden hoops that are Duchess hoops. They show up on Ebay. I love all threads! My favorite needles are Pat Carson needles and the ball-tipped needles for high-count fabrics. My favorite gadget is LoRan needle threader.
What a wealth of information for me to check into! I do keep seeing the Duchess hoops and love the time-worn look of them. Good idea to check eBay. Thank you for sharing all those tips...I wrote them down in my notebook! Hope to hear from you soon....next FlossTube and companion Quilting videos should be uploaded this weekend!
Welcome. You just popped up. Enjoying your quilting and cross stitching. As you, I fell down the rabbit hole in May. Flosstube appeared, and having FOMO, I had to check it out. I said the same thing. Nope, nope ... nice but I haven’t cross stitched since late 80’s and I have wool appliqué, quilting, knitting and don’t need another hobby. That didn’t last long. Have you found Pumpkin Hollow Quilts Flosstube? She’s a quilter and stitcher also. I look forward to watching you. I have a nice scroll rod but watching and listening to all the ladies who stitch in hand, I decided to give that a try and love it. It’s light weight and less cumbersome.
Ahh! I keep hearing that there are many of us out there....trying to resist...but FlossTube drew us in and we love it!!!! So glad we have so much in common with stitching. I'm looking forward to getting to share more stories with you and get to know you through these comments!
So I found your most recent floss tube. I had to go back to the first to find out about you. I am laughing because of how many times I say I don’t need another hobby. But cross stitch wasn’t a new one, I just put it away for 30 years until this July. My going back has to do with a lost quilt I made for my oldest child that was cross stitched Peter Rabbit characters with the alphabet. I stored it at moms and we have not been able to find it for 5 years. So I decided to go back and redo it in linen this time. Since July I have acquired many many many other patterns and linen too! Love floss tube because I never turn on a tv
I loved this first video and look forward to more. I also am a big quilter and love to see your quilts, too. Pumpkin Hollow shows her quilting projects at the end of her flosstube. It's a real treat for those of us who do both.
Wonderful!Thank you for the lovely compliment! Yes, I need to watch more Pumpkin Hollow. I love the variety of stitching we all do and specially when another flosstuber is really into quilting, as I am.
Hi Bonnie! Your Flosstube popped up in my FT Feed. Enjoyed your first video very much❣️You are such a talented Needlewoman; quilting, wool appliqué, punch needle and embroidery. I look forward to catching up on your videos and have subscribed. 🌻
Welcome Bonnie to this wonderful world of floss tube!! My favorites to watch are Priscilla and Chelsea, The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch, Fat Quarter Shop with Kimberly, 911 stitcher, and I liked Distracted Stitcher but I don’t think she’s filming anymore. My favorite “gadget” is my basket that I keep my current project and floss in. It belonged to my mother, also gone from this world and who taught me to sew and encouraged ALL my needlework, saying I was just like HER mother 💗 it all feeds my soul 🙏🏻 Looking forward to more episodes!!
I love your first video. I have used cross stitch and floss tube for my mental therapy for the past 4 years. I’ve experienced some personal losses in my life and I would not have made it without my stitching. I would love to learn to quilt after seeing everyone’s quilts in their floss tube videos. I hope to retire in December and maybe take a beginners quilt class. I’m looking forward to your quilting you tube. The two things that I use for cross stitch that I love are Sullivan’s size 28 Easy Guide Ball-Tip Needles. I can’t use a regular needle now. The other accessory is my Morgan embroidery hoops. I have several sizes and find that you have really tight tension with them. Thanks for jumping into the floss tube world.
Ahh, I've seen Morgan hoops, but hadn't heard from someone who uses them. Good to know. I like the idea of the ball-tip needles. That way they don't catch on the fabric. Thanks so much for watching. I'm glad you've been using stitching for mental therapy as well. It's amazing how much it calms to make something lovely.
Hi Bonnie! Welcome to the floss tube community and wonderful enabling friends of fellow cross stitchers. I am catching up on all your floss tubes so am a bit late with the welcome. Amazon has light up tracing boxes for a reasonable price, depending on the size that you would like. I have found it very helpful for especially stitching on dark/black fabric. My favorite needle currently is the 28 ball-tip Easy Guide needle. I first became acquainted with them through the former owner of the company and have not went back to using any other needle since. The best price I have found for them is a Canadian company called Charting Creations and they average $2 per needle instead of $4 like here in the States. They work very well on 18 ct Aida, 32 count evenweave and linen. I do not stitch on anything smaller than that due to my eyesight but feel they would be fine for the smaller count linens as well. I find your floss tubes to be very uplifting and enjoy the sharing of your life stories, your quilting, and all the wonderful memories you have associated with the quilts. Thank you for your time as well.
Oh, good review on the Ball tip needle Easy Glide. I've seen them as I shop and have wondered if they are worth the price. Good to know there are options!! Thank you so much for your welcome and encouragement!!
That’s a great idea. This weekend’s upcoming video I was going to share my embroidery heart WIP and talk about how my new cross stitching re-entry has helped me with my embroidery stitching. Thanks for the encouragement to share more!
Just came across your floss tube channel and I enjoyed listening to your story. You are quite the talent with the needle. I love all types of needlework and designed counted thread embroidery on linen for a number of years for the retail market retiring in 2014. I stitch every day. If you search for Hardwicke Manor embroidery hoops there are a number of places that carry this line and Hardwicke is a quality hoop. There are others, but some are harder to find these days. You also asked about a light box and this will probably be your laugh of the day, but it is cheap and it works. I used a porcelain light socket which has an electrical cord on it and they can be found at Home Depot. I have a 4 foot glass top table and I can put that light under it and work away. Other times, I have put the light into a plastic storage box and have used a piece of glass that fits across the top of the storage box, taping the edges with painters tape to avoid any cuts. Years ago, I researched light boxes and I thought they were kind of pricey, so worked on the next best solution. I have used my homemade light box for years and it still works the best for my needs. However, if you want a good light box, check it out on Shabby Fabrics web site. They also have a light box video on You Tube. So enjoyed listening and seeing your WIP's and all. Welcome to the world of floss tube. We are a lovely, friendly bunch and there is no unkindness here. Cheers from Boise, Idaho, Norma
You are a wealth of help!! I love all the suggestions from veteran stitchers. Isn't it so lovely that distance doesn't keep us apart! Now that I found FlossTube, I keep thinking, how did I manage without this sweet stitching community! OH, I did have my quilt guild meetings, but this is now going to be in addition when we can finally meet together again in person!
I love my Hardwick Manor wooden hoops. I get mine from Sassy Jacks Stitchery in North Carolina. I am back crossstitching since about 1 1/2 years ago after 20 + years away. I got hooked due to flosstube and all the new floss, Linen and updated finishing. My favorite items are petite needles especially with higher count fabrics, my Hardwick Manor sit on frame and my dovo embroidery scissors. Welcome to the dark side🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found me and now have several already waiting for you to continue to get to know me and the many projects I love and all the stories that go along with them!! My Quilting #7 shows a new part of my sewing room to see what I get to look at while I sit and stitch. Thanks for joining in my sweet stitching family!
Hello and welcome to our wonderful community. Cross stitch is the best. I identify with you. I wish I had more time for quilting and stitching. I love Pat Carson needles #28. I use the purple hoops at Jo-Ann’s. They have a deep channel that holds The fabric taut.
Hi there , Bonnie! My, we have a few things in common: - Married in 1983 - Made my wedding dress - homeschooled my five children -adore birds! - and so many loves of sewing/ stitching! The wool appliqué bird is absolutely stunning. ❤️
Oh we certainly do have a lot in common! Isn’t it amazing when we’ve been married a long time it’s a heritage we can leave our children. We have learned a lot along the way and not all the years mean that they were wonderful but we learned to work through the hard stuff. I am so glad you’re enjoying watching my channel thank you so much for sharing!
Hi so lovely to find your Floss Tube videos. I'm a stitcher from the UK and like you used to stitch in the 80's and 90's and then gave it up for a full time job and knitting and crochet. Like you I've fallen down the cross stitch rabbit hole after discovering Floss Tube during lockdown. I'm really looking forward to watching your other videos - I know there are going to be lots more lovely patterns to add to my wish list after watching your stitching journey. Love from Lesley (on Graham's laptop) x
Oh, Lesley, so glad you found me and I'm excited to have stitching friends from distant places that get to be close here on this virtual community!! I'm so thrilled to see all the lovely linens, flosses and patterns that are available now. Everyone can find just the right style they love. Thank you for watching!!!
So glad to find your channel. Anxious to learn about your light too. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I’m a returnee to cross stitch also after a long bout of rheumatoid arthritis it has quieted down for now and I constantly tell my husband I’m so glad I can stitch again! I’ve missed it for so long. Looking forward to your quilt channel as well. Thanks for sharing!
What a treat that you found me and I can bring some delight to you as well! I've got a friend with RA and I know what a challenge it can be. So glad it has calmed and you can stitch again. What sweet therapy! Yes, that magnifying lamp is AMAZING and not too expensive! I plan to upload that video this weekend!
Hi Bonnie, you did a great job on your 1st video. Your quilt is gorgeous. I will definitely be watching you in the future. I found Flosstube when I retired. I don't watch regular TV anymore either . Too many great crafters out there making awesome videos. Kim
Great floss tube #1!!! I like ball point needles, but I only stitch on 14 count. I have neuropathy and am thankful to be able to stitch at all! I mainly use DMC, but I also use packs that Fat Quarter Shop has kitted up! I love cute scissors, needle minders, scissor fobs, project boards, and q snaps! Happy Stitching 🧵!
Oh, I know how painful neuropathy can be. I’m glad you are able to stitch and find the joy creating with needle and thread can bring. I’m so glad you found me and will look forward to hearing from you again!
I just watched your first floss tube video and enjoyed your story. I too have fallen back into the same rabbit hole of cross stitch after being away from it for many, many years. I have been immersed in quilting for over 30 years now along with embroidery, wool applique and many crafts. My favorite designer is blackbird designs and Erica Michaels. I love the strawberries. I have not done a sampler as of yet, but hope to venture into it in the near future. My favorite embroidery floss is Cosmos and any of the hand dyes. I am still learning what all the acronyms mean and have not tried any of the higher count linens. I enjoy the evenweaves at this point. I also live in Southern California and for many years my husband and I had a log cabin home up in Big Bear Lake, California. He passed away from a major heart attack a few years ago and it has been a huge adjustment after 52 years together. I loved your first video and plan on following you as long as you plan on making them. I too have subscribed to several floss tube channels and that is what I enjoy watching during the day while quilting and in the evenings when I cross stitch. So welcome to this wonderful new community.
I loved your sharing all your thoughts. Where was your cabin in Big Bear? The one my grandparents owned was over by the dam by Chinese Island and Papoose Bay. Wonderful old historic cabins with so much character. I can still smell the mint we would step on as we walked down to the natural spring by the lake to get drinking water when I was a girl. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. My parents were married just over 50years. I'm glad you are enjoying stitching and quilting. I just searched Erica Michaels and will have fun looking at her designs. Thank you for joining with me in these video chats!
I thank you for your reply. So nice to know you really read your comments. Our home in Big Bear was in Moonridge, across the street from the golf course. We had our home for 12 years before selling. It was a very special home that our whole family enjoyed over the years. I enjoy your floss tube channel so much and enjoy seeing your quilts. @@logcabinstitcher7274
@@joyceleafdale3304 oh yes, I’m trying to keep up with the comments, but sometimes they slip through the cracks. I know the area in Big Bear where you had your cabin. Oh, I still can smell that mountain lake smell and hear the gentle slap of the water on the water weedy shore. Delicious!
I am in LOVE with your new FlossTube! We are very similar in taste, age, background, and stitching style! Quilters who cross stitch, UNITE! Can’t wait for the next video....
Oh my gosh, Shanda!!!! Even though I'm just getting back to you right now, I saw your comment on a busy morning and I ran into where my husband was and I was so excited. He laughed, but I said, "She found me!!! She's the reason I'm doing this crazy RUclips thing now!!" You made my day!!!
Thank you!! I did a whole quilting #1 video about that quilt and why there was a mistake in the border seam. It serves as a reminder for me of a tough time that I'm glad is in the past! I'm gearing up to do another video tonight and I think you're gunna love the quilt in the background of the #2 video!!!!
Hi Bonnie, I am so glad you are watching Shanda, as I was watching your video your style reminded me of hers. I love civil war quilts, I love cross stitching, I love gardening and cooking, these are a few of my favorite things. I believe quilters, stitchers, homemakers are kindred, you tube is such a wonderful venue for sharing! I just subscribed and look forward to your video's. A few of my favorite floss-tubers: Stitch Roadies / Quilt Roadies With Anna Celeste Creates Halfstitch cross stitch With Dena Country Stitchers With Liz and Deb Lost in Floss Stitching with the housewives With Pricilla and Chelsea and Cash and Piper and Ronnie, 😄 These are just a few of the flosstubers I love!
Oh thank you!! I've enjoyed getting to see you on your videos as well! Had several ladies suggest your videos. I'm so glad you found me and I appreciate your welcome into this lovely group of stitchers!
Welcome to flosstube, i have learned a lot with flosstube but still a newbie too. Lol but my fav things are qsnap (it doesn't mark the fabric and has a good hold on it too, the qsnap brand is a better quality then the other brands). And needle minders are fantastic! I just downloaded a free light box on my tablet, so not much help there.
Hey, didn't know there was a lightbox app. That's pretty cool. I've got a bigger ipad, so that might work! I just ordered a 8 x 8 Qsnap over the weekend to give it a try along with a few Hartwicke hoops. I figured it would be best to go with the name brand that the other Flosstubers use. Glad I did!
Just found your Floss Tube, and enjoyed it very much. My life can be same as yours, as I always have a needle and thread in hand. I actually did the same wool appliqué you showed. I have taken classes from Lisa of Primitive Gatherings, and many wool quilts, and crafts of all kinds. I use a frame for my big cross stitch pieces, and use wood for my small take along work. I think Hardwick Manor makes an excellent product. I wrap the inner hoop with twill tape, and makes it all nice and tight. Love watching Floss Tubes with such lovely ladies who put on a pleasant presentation. Thank you and keep stitching. Look forward to watching more.
I placed an order for a few Hardwicke Manor hoops from Needle IN a Haystack..hope they are in stock. And I was so excited to find an old Duchess hoop on etsy and I snagged it right away. No idea what size it was, but whatever it is, I'll love it. Yeah, Primitive Gatherings is amazing!! So easy to spend hours there. I love Lisa's work.
Hi Bonnie and welcome to the fun and winding rabbit hole of cross stitching! Love the projects you're chosen and your first re-entry project is lovely. I haven't seen that before so...[pause] while I go find it! lol It's always fun to find another multi-crafter!
Well so glad I found you! All the things at the beginning ....stitching , log cabin quilts (my fav) log cabin home omg! And prim and such... and natural health. You would love olivia pumpkin hollow quilts, and crosshatch quilting both flosstubers! Both quilters and prim etc.. Now will continue to watch! Lol and Anna quilt roadie and has floss tube as well! And Daleen ,sew grateful, stitcher, quilter, natural health ...
Whoo Hoo. I've started to watch all of those ladies and need to follow Anna Quilt Roadie as I had another comment about her as well. Thanks so much for your encouragement and glad you found me!!
Welcome and we are kindred sisters in many ways. I am a SOCAL girl with no LNS so maybe someday I will venture over to yours. I love it all as well and have "come back" to cross stitch a year ago. So thankful you will include many of your loves - glad to meet you Bonnie
So glad you found your way into my Sewing Room! I'm excited to get to know you better as these videos and comments continue. I feel like my sweet friendship circle has grown and I just love it!
Wow! Look at you floss tubing like a pro! Amazing first post and you are a natural! Cheering you on from Ontario Canada. Like you embroidery was my first love, but I quilt, cross stitch, knit, and crochet. Love my pigma pens! My favourite cross stitch “tool” is my copier. I enlarge my chart and cross off finished stitches with a highlighter. My eyes are old too! One thing I learned is that when working on black or navy cloth, I lay a white towel or pillowcase on my lap. The holes are much more visible. Looking forward to more of your enthusiasm and joy!
Welcome to Flosstube. What a lovely story about how you entered the cross stitch world. Look forward to your quilt you-tubes also. The quilt behind you is beautiful and would love to see your log cabin quilts as well. Please check out Stitch Roadie/Quilt Roadie as Anna does a lot of stitching on wool and she has the neatest light box table and they are not expensive. Looking forward to many more videos from your home.
Thank you so much for sharing those tips. I'll check that out. I'm so glad I decided to just jump in and do these videos and figure things out along the way. I'm meeting so many lovely stitchers like you who make me want to do more videos and share ore stories! The quilt behind me in each FlossTube will have a companion Quilting video on my channel Log Cabin Stitcher....or at least that's the plan right now!!!
My very first stitch was in 1970 and it's was strawberries. I still love my berries but have branched out to samplers now. The log cabin was the very first quilt I made in 2002 when I finally took a class after years of sewing. Thanks for another fun video.
Hi Bonnie and I really enjoyed your first flosstube video. I like the q- snap instead of the hoop. It doesn't leave rings in your fabric. Good luck and I can't wait to see the next video.
Thanks for the suggestion! I ordered a small Qsnap so I could see how it feels and works with my stitching. I think I like the idea of the wooden hoop because I used to stitch with the plastic hoops. I'm wanting to give other ways a try and even am doing a stitch in hand this week!! I'm feeling adventurous!
I am so glad I found your Flosstube videos today! Like you, I learned a deep and enduring love for needlework from a very early age. My mom has had a penpal in Minnesota since she was in 7th grade. That penpal sent me a little embroidery kit when I was little, and that was my first of many, many projects. I have always shared the joy of my hobby with my family, too. That sounds so familiar too. My mom and grandmother sewed and have done needlework (my grandmother has passed now). My sister and I learned and enjoyed counted cross stitch together. I have too many craft hobbies and my husband would say too many supplies, but I love it all. It was such a pleasure to hear your crafting history. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and it took me back through the years of my life. I got out of cross stitching and took up scrapbooking when I had my daughter, but thankfully Flosstube has brought me back to my beloved counted cross stitch. It was such a pleasure to meet you! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!
I use a clip on magnifier that has a light with it that I purchased on Amazon when I do 40 count. I use stronger reader glasses when I stitch that when I just read. I have been thinking about purchasing one of the more expensive wooden hoops but haven't done so. I enjoyed watching and floss tube beats regular TV any day.
I'm so glad you're enjoying stitching and watching my videos. Yes, there are so many awesome magnifiers. I share the magnifying light in FlossTube #3 and it's working great! Wow, you're doing great to stitch on 40. I have a project ready to work on with 40count, but I'm getting 36 under my belt before I go smaller.
Thank you so much! I'm grateful that you joined me! I am doing a companion Quilting video on my channel Log Cabin Stitcher with the quilt in each FlossTube background and the story behind it as well as several more. Hope you can check it out. I just love sharing the stories and details!
I am a returning cross stitcher as well. I spent the 80's stitching the Lavender and Lace angels which I loved. Then quilting took over my world and I put everything else aside. Last summer I lost my younger brother unexpectedly to a brain aneurysm and totally lost my quilting mojo; I think partly because he had been so involved helping my father build me a quilting studio in my basement. I was watching my niece, who I had taught to cross stitch a few years ago, stitching one day and she looked so peaceful and content. I pulled out an old quilting book by Barb Adams & Alma Allen, Celebration of American Life, because I remembered it had a cross stitch pattern in it. That started it all again for me! Welcome back to cross stitch!
OH, I'm so sorry you lost your brother. It's so hard. Yes, stitching brings relaxation and peace. Helps the mind to quiet and think about lovely things. I took a break from my sewing room for 2 years after my Mom died. Just too painful, I gardened and made stuff with my oils during that time. But, I eventually decided it was time to get back into quilting. I had to reorganize my fabrics and that helped me enjoy being in my room again. Something new to help- my mind.
So excited to see someone who does embroidery as well as Crosstitch an appliqué! I am 39 and I love it all as well as quilting, hand quilting add that! Subscribed!
If you want a light box, try Amazon. They have some that are $17-$25. Very reasonable. Love your stitching and quilting. Especially punch needle. I would like to try that. Also your quilt is beautiful. Welcome to floss tube!
Hi Bonnie, welcome to floss tube. I really enjoyed your 1st offering and look forward to more. I am a watcher and occasional commenter rather than a maker of videos. The best thing to know is that there are no cross stitch police and you can do things your way ( I think you already know that but it's always good to be reminded 😊) Stay well 😺
Thank you! Yeah, sometimes we get caught up in doing things the way others do, rather than letting our personality come through our stitching. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Love hearing your journey. I have been doing counted cross stitch since 1975. I have been doing stitching of some kind since I was 7. First project darning my grandpa socks. I have been watching floss tube for about 6years. I dont do them but have watched a ton of it. I actually grew up in Culver city California. I moved there from Montana at age 13. Looking forward to more floss tubes.
Darleen Bumgardner another young learner! I think it’s such a wonderful heritage to learn stitching as a child and find ways to keep our hands happy as we continue through life. Thank you for watching!
Hi from South Affrica.... it was super to hear about your cross stitch/crafting journey! I look forward to watching your up coming utubes as I am quite new to cross stitching. It is the most theraputic hobby I have ever done and I'm enjoying every stitch made!
Nicole Crous WOW! Isn’t it amazing how we can connect because of a shared passion in stitching, even though we are so far apart by distance. I believe that’s why this FlossTube community is growing so much, specially during this time when we aren’t able to be with our usual group of companions. I’m so glad you found my videos and look forward to hearing from you again about what you’re stitching!
Welcome to floss tube! I also love aside from cross stitch...wool applique, punch needle, rug hooking and quilting, embroidery...I have learned so much from floss tube. I crossed stitched back in the 80's but it is so much more fun now!! As far as hoops go Hardwicke Manor hoops are good. My favorite tool is my magnifying light...I turned a cross stitch corner when I got that, lol! I love your quilt on the wall!!
Sadie Lady Dubois I’ve never tried rug hooking, but I love all of Maggie Bonanomi’s wool books and keep wanting to get into that. Isn’t it amazing how different cross stitching is now? So many styles and I adore the linen. I’m doing companion Quilting videos to go along with the Flosstube videos. I go into detail about the backdrop quilt as well as a few more. I think you’d like them!
Thank you sooo much for the encouragement! I'm getting ready to do another one hopefully tonight when I get home from work. It makes me smile to see your comment!
Welcome to Flosstube and cross stitch!! I am always thrilled when someone comes back to cross stitch. I am also a member of the Scattered Seed Sampler club. Love them all. I have taught myself to EPP so seeing that you quilt is also interesting to me. I love wool appliqué also and sewing. Don’t hesitate to add touches of your embroidery to your cross stitch as well; I love doing that. Enjoy it all and happy stitching...............P.S. I love the Hardwicke hoops. Stitch what you love and your stitching should always be fun!🥰. I have subscribed and look forward to spending more time with you on FT.
Pam Lacey What’s EPP? That’s a fun idea to mix embroidery and cross stitch. I’m so intrigued seeing other’s stitching projects and tweeking quilt and appliqué patterns to make it more my own. That’s fun that you’re in a Scattered Seeds club as well. My #3 project just arrived today. I’m looking forward to getting to know you better through these videos and comments.
Log Cabin Stitcher EPP stands for English Paper Piecing; it is usually for small things but can be quilts too and is done by hand, at least that is the way I enjoy. I have a couple of small pre-cut quilts that I want to try to do; tutorials on line will be helpful I am sure!! Hope you are having some good time of doing what you love. Hugs and happy stitching..................
Leslie Hurley oh thank you, I’ve got lots to learn, but I’m having so much fun stitching and watching other flosstubers. I’m gathering some of my embroidery finishes to do another video this weekend.
Love your first video keep going! Had my own quilting company in Australia, just got back into it, working on a autumn block of the month. Love embroidery and cross stitch. Joy in my family, joy in my stitching and joy in God keeps me grounded and fulfilled. Love your positivity 😊😊💚
I just recently got back into cross stitching also because I watched Anna from Stitch Roadies. She is such a sweetie. But my eyes have deteriorated also. I bought a Deskbrite 300 from Hobby Lobby to start. Can't wait to see what you found. 😃
The tricks we can find to help us make stitching easier and share with each other are great!! The first few nights when I only had cheater glasses I wore in front of my prescription glasses was hard on my eyes. Now, I't so much more comfortable. Hoping to get the video about my finds up this weekend!!
Keep the videos coming. Loved it! I stitched in the 80’s and early 90’s. Started back last year close to Christmas after watching flosstube and I love it.
Welcome, FlossTube is lots of fun. I started doing videos this summer. Thanks for sharing my Camelot’s Rose Needlebook chart. It will be fun to watch your progress. - Wendy
Oh, Wendy!!!! What a treat that you saw my video!!! I finished my first WIP Sunday night and right away got going on Camelot's Rose and will be showing that in my next video. I just love the pattern and adore needlebooks!
New subby. I also ran across Flosstube by accident. and am now starting again after many years. Just retired a year ago and my husband retired in August. Going to do a lot of traveling in our Airstream getting set up for this. The suggestions you have made are very helpful. Keep up the good work.
Oh, I just love Airstreams!!! We had an old 5th wheel trailer for about 14 years and got good use from it. Even when it was parked in the driveway...it was my quiet spot to stitch and dream! Enjoy your joined retirement with your husband and I'm so glad you found flosstube and can connect with so many amazing stitchers this way. Happy Travels and Stitches!
Hi Bonnie, great first video! You mentioned the Mountains, I live in Big Bear City. I have a couple recommendations for more floss tubers, off the grid needle arts, with Caroline, she is in Canada, and has an off the grid cottage she spends most Summers at. Also Kathleen at kathleens trodden trail, she also does amazing rug hooking! Looking forward to everything you have coming in the future!
Oh!! Big Bear!! The mountains I knew as a girl! I loved the town as I remember it in the early 70's with the old arcade and lots of room to get to the edge of the lake. Boulder Bay as it used to be with the funny old camp cabins across the road. My uncles worked at the Boulder Bay docs when they were teens. I've got those names of flosstubers on mylist! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Bonnie, so nice to meet you! We love the same designers and have made and are working on many of the same projects! I love my hardwick manor hoops and my light box that was a treat for me is a daylight wafer style! Christmas is coming and these would be such lovely gifts. I’m also a quilter and Birds of a Feather is one of my UFO’s, I like that you mentioned wipes and ufos as being synonymous, it’s so true, lingo is fun to learn! I just love Shanda too, oh my I enjoy all her videos and she is as wonderful in person! Looking forward to watching more of your videos, Joyful stitching and God Bless your week! Oh find yourself some cute readers they are so helpful!
Loved all your needle art projects. I also stopped cross stitching for many years and because of flosstube I have also got back into cross stitching in a big way. I’m experimenting with different counts to see what I enjoy most. I loved your video and look forward to more. I also would recommend Pumpkin Hollow Quilts who combines cross stitch and quilting
Oh yes, I have watched a few Pumpkin Hollow videos which gave me the inspiration to move forward with mine. I want sure how it would be received. Celeste Creates is a new Flosstuber I found helpful as well. Thank you for your ideas!
Welcome to floss tube enjoyed watching your video and love 💕 your style I remember when I first started I embroidered a baby blanket. I work on a lot of kits so I stitch on the fabric that it comes with from aida to linen. Have a great evening and happy stitching 🧵😊❤️🤗
Welcome. I am a watcher of floss tube. Great first video👍. I am also a quilter that loves traditional and Jo Morton, needleturn hand applique, Civil War fabrics and history. I’ve been stitching for 30 plus years as well as quilting for around 25. I can relate to the stash issues for quilting. I’ll be checking out your quilt channel too. Great retro stitched pieces. Love the shorter videos. I look forward to seeing your content and getting to know you. Haven’t taken the plung yet on making videos.
Rebecca Moore thank you so much! I am so glad you found me! I’ve got so much to learn on RUclips but I’m loving all the flosstubers. Hope you keep watching and commenting and let me know when you decide to jump on with your first video. I’ve got to learn how to do thumbnails next.
Sew very happy I found your channel,it was so enjoyable to watch and listen to.I also came back to cross stitch after so many years. It has become a place to go after a move and now shutdown.Quilting is also another passion we share.I use a frixion pen for marking ,it irons out.Looking forward to your future videos!!
Oh, Thank you so much! Isn't it amazing how many of us have fallen in love with cross stitching again? I'm sure FlossTube has alot to do with it! Nothing like hanging out with other stitchers and getting inspired by what they're working on. I love that we can spend time with each other in this format! Stitching and listening!
I look forward to your coming flosstubes, Bonnie. I got into them 2 1/2 years ago and love them and the stitchy community. I liked your little heart embroidery piece. I love doing what I call “little stitch embroidery and use a light box my husband made for me about 30 years ago. The other thing I have started using and prefer to the microns is a Pilot “Frixxion” pen in pink, brown, or grey. It disappears with heat, either a hair dryer or an iron. You barely have to touch the fabric with the iron and sometimes not at all. So if the line isn’t perfect, it doesn’t matter.
My husband used a 9x11x2 1/2” acrylic box picture frame. They used to be very popular in 80s when he made it and I think Michael’s still has them. The white cardboard part of the box fits inside to hold the picture. He put a piece of thin diffuser acrylic under the front surface and a longish light with wire coming out of box to plug in. I’ve been using it for 35 years
Welcome! I am Renee from Georgia. I enjoyed your video very much. Flosstube has educated and enabled me and I've made wonderful virtual friends. I look forward to you future videos. Blessings....Renee
I so enjoyed your video! The best I've seen in awhile! You have so many beautiful projects! I'm so glad you're doing quilts and cross-stitch videos. Thank you!
Wow! What a fabulous video! I’m so happy I have discovered you! We both like the same types of needlework, quilts, embroidery etc. I look forward to seeing you every week. I will tell you I began Instagram two years ago when my youngest moved out and what a world that has opened up! IG and Flosstube have definitely given me a new focus and it is so much fun. I have developed many friendships I am so thankful for. There is nothing like a group of ladies that love the same hobby as you do with the same passion. Welcome to the world of cross stitch, I think you will love it as much a I do!!
So nice to meet you 🥰 I really enjoyed watching you and will be looking forward to all of your videos. I am also a cross stitcher re-entering the hobby after taking probably almost 20 years off. I find it so therapeutic and enjoyable. I also have enjoyed seeing all of the different styles of stitched pieces from the various floss tubers out there. Thank you for such a positive and interesting video 😊
OH, those sweet words are a blessing! I'm so glad you also enjoy the therapy and joy of stitching and sharing in this awesome community! Hope to get you know you better through these videos and comments!!
Welcome! You are so fun to watch. I have been stitching or sewing in some form since I was 9 years old. I also quilt. Love the quilt behind you. It is beautiful. I use a Hardwick Hoop with a magnifier that I attach to the hoop. I also use a daylight floor lamp. I hope you enjoy your new hobby. I Use a size 28 needle for stitching. I look forward to all your future videos.
Thank you for your suggestions! As a returning stitcher I sure need them. I'm trying to be patient with the slow ship times on some of the items I've ordered. I did get the 28 needles in, but those hardwicke hoops on order are another story!! IF you have time, I think you would enjoy the quilting videos that go along with the flosstube videos. I did a FlossTube #3 with my new stitching set up with a magnifying light! So wonderful. Found that suggestion on Felicity Stitcher.
What I wished I knew as I started back into crossstitch with old eyes is: The charts are smaller now and harder to read and the rule is to not show the chart so I ordered so many things b/c we do not have a shop to visit so I could view the chart before I bought it; and was disappointed in the tiny charts. I have learned so much from flosstubers so you will too and they will, direct you to the good places and charts. Oh yes the most popular saying on here is “BUY ALL THE BLACKBIRDS” and those charts are great and Laura and the serial stitcher is a great one to follow❤️and the Saltbox Stitcher, so,many, Country stitcher;mDeb & Liz. 😊
Debbie Rice It sure is a challenge to have these funny Old Eyes and want to do the tiniest stitches. I have seen some ladies mention an app for charts and I wonder if it’s to help enlarge it. Hmm we’ll have to check that out, won’t we? I had given away my little magnetic chart holder to show me what line I was on, so I found a wonderful portfolio one that really helps me. I’ll be showing that next week along with a few other ‘tricks’ that I have found to make it easier to stitch at my age. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Debbie Rice , if you have access to a photocopier , you can enlarge the pattern to make your working copy. I do this with every pattern and it’s like magic for my 65 year old eyes. There are also some apps on line to download the pattern onto and then you can zoom out on the pattern on your screen. Some apps also will allow you to “highlight” and mark your spot. Amazing- good luck
Welcome to Flosstube! I learned about your channel from Anna of Stitch Roadies! I’m so happy she suggested watching you! I loved your first video and all of your energy! You are a very positive spirit! We need that right now! I love all your works of beginning cross stitch, embroidery, and quilting! I can’t wait to see it all! Happy Stitching!
Welcome to flosstube! I'm happy i came across your channel and tuned in! My favorite gadget is a stabnabit - stab nab it! It's great for straightening your stitches! Looking forward to more of your videos! Stay safe and happy needlework! Lori at Once Upon a Stitch
Once Upon A Stitch I’m glad you found me as well! Thank you for sharing and I’ll check that out. So many cool items out there I had no idea of. Love the encouragement!
Elizabeth I am so touched by your comment on this video. I am so glad that you are finding such joy in FlossTube and stitching!
Elizabeth Jones my heart aches for you- what a rough stretch. I think Instagram and Floss tube are wonderful ways to connect with stitchers.
@@logcabinstitcher7274 Bonnie, I thankful I found your channel(s). Blessings for a wonderful journey ahead.
I am very excited to have you share your stitching set-up - I’m re-entering too and my eyes are really holding me back.
I've enjoyed your video. Delightful. I also love Jo Morton style.
You are a joy to watch…welcome😊
So I found your most recent floss tube. I had to go back to the first to find out about you. I am laughing because of how many times I say I don’t need another hobby. But cross stitch wasn’t a new one, I just put it away for 30 years until this July. My going back has to do with a lost quilt I made for my oldest child that was cross stitched Peter Rabbit characters with the alphabet. I stored it at moms and we have not been able to find it for 5 years. So I decided to go back and redo it in linen this time. Since July I have acquired many many many other patterns and linen too! Love floss tube because I never turn on a tv
I had some Peter rabbit cross stitch patterns as well! It’s so fun to use the linen now. Gives so many more options and a different look that I love!
Love love love your video. Look forward to more!!!
So.great to.watch another of your videos well done x
I have used the double Morgan Hoops for punch needle.
I love your channel! Please show us how to turn cross stitch into embroidery! Looking forward to many more of your videos. ❤️❤️
I just started watching your u tube channel
I am enjoying them!! Thanks for taking your time to make these.
Welcome. Fantastic first video. Looking forward to watching more.
They have a deep channel that holds
The fabric taut.
I hadn't heard of the Pat Carson needles until another commenter mentioned them as well. I'll check those out. Thanks for watching!
Hi there , Bonnie!
My, we have a few things in common:
- Married in 1983
- Made my wedding dress
- homeschooled my five children
-adore birds!
Nice video. So much to see.
Hi Bonnie, you did a great job on your 1st video. Your quilt is gorgeous. I will definitely be watching you in the future. I found Flosstube when I retired. I don't watch regular TV anymore either . Too many great crafters out there making awesome videos. Kim
So glad you got to share my stories and spend time with me!! What a great community we ventured into!!
So nice to meet you! Welcome! ♥️ Off to watch video #2!
Hurrah! Glad you enjoyed enough to want more!
I guess that gives me permission to stalk you then.......🤣♥️✂️🧵
Shanda stitchinginidaho Absolutely! I stalked you first!
Great first video Bonnie.
Looking forward to Flosstube #2!
Whoo Hoo! Thank you
Welcome to flosstube!!!! ❤️ beautiful stitching and I love that quilt!!!
Thank you!! I did a whole quilting #1 video about that quilt and why there was a mistake in the border seam. It serves as a reminder for me of a tough time that I'm glad is in the past! I'm gearing up to do another video tonight and I think you're gunna love the quilt in the background of the #2 video!!!!
Hi Bonnie,
I am so glad you are watching Shanda, as I was watching your video your style reminded me of hers.
I love civil war quilts, I love cross stitching, I love gardening and cooking, these are a few of my favorite things.
I believe quilters, stitchers, homemakers are kindred, you tube is such a wonderful venue for sharing!
I just subscribed and look forward to your video's.

Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement!!!
Welcome to the community! I hope you are safe and stitching away all the anxiety!
Country Stitcher. Serial starter good flosstubers
Nancy Jones thank you for the ideas! Funny, I just watched country stitcher last night! Thanks for watching, home to hear from you next video!
Yes, check out pumpkin hollow. Olivia is great!
Welcome to the wonderful world of floss tube.
Dori Patrick Oh thank you! I. Enjoying this lovely community so much! Thank you for watching.
Oh! We are enjoying the same things!! I bet my first stitching on that embroidered pillow was about 1970 as well!!
Great video! Looking forward to your future videos. Your quilt is BEAUTIFUL. Enjoy your new hobby.
Subscribed!
Great first video. Look forward to the next.
If you want a light box, try Amazon. They have some that are $17-$25. Very reasonable. Love your stitching and quilting. Especially punch needle. I would like to try that. Also your quilt is beautiful. Welcome to floss tube!
I appreciate your encouragement and that you took the time to watch. Thank you for the suggestion, too!
Loved your video. Cannot wait to see more. Thank you for doing this. Wonderful!!!!
Welcome to FlossTube! Beautiful projects and stitching.
Welcome!...great first video....
Thank you!! I'm so glad you found me and I love the encouragement as I get nervous pushing that START button on the videos!
I can totally relate to emerging yourself in flosstube. I am like you, not much tv but lots of floss tube
So much good stuff on FlossTube! It's pretty addicting seeing all the lovely things other ladies are stitching!
Really enjoyed your show! I will be watching for the quilting as well. Thank you for the joy!
I'm so glad you joined me in my Sewing Room!!! What a treat to hear you enjoyed my sharing!!

Just found your channel! Love everything you talked about! Can’t wait to see more!
Yay! Thank you! I'm hoping to keep up with a once-a-week schedule. So glad you found me!
Theresa Chucle ahh! Thank you so much! What a treat for you to welcome me and I look forward to chatting again this weekend!
Log Cabin Stitcher
Sounds great 👍 have a great day 😊❤️
I really enjoy watching you! Lol! I have watched first your flosstube #3 before this.
Oh thank you! I'm so glad you found me!
I'll definitely check out those pens. I'm gathering so many tips that I treasure! Thanks so much for watching and your encouragement!
Tara Fell
Hi Tara, what a great tip for Frixion pens! Can you share more about the light box you use to cross stitch?
Thanks,
Susan
My husband used a 9x11x2 1/2” acrylic box picture frame. They used to be very popular in 80s when he made it and I think Michael’s still has them. The white cardboard part of the box fits inside to hold the picture. He put a piece of thin diffuser acrylic under the front surface and a longish light with wire coming out of box to plug in. I’ve been using it for 35 years
Welcome! I am Renee from Georgia. I enjoyed your video very much. Flosstube has educated and enabled me and I've made wonderful virtual friends. I look forward to you future videos. Blessings....Renee
Welcome!!Renee, thank you so much for joining me in my Sewing Room sharing my stories!!!
I so enjoyed your video! The best I've seen in awhile! You have so many beautiful projects! I'm so glad you're doing quilts and cross-stitch videos. Thank you!
I’m so glad you found my videos! Thank you so much for the support!
Ginger Shull I’m so glad you found your way into my Sewing Room as well!
Thank you I’m just getting back as well!
Awesome first video! Cross stitching and quilting is my heaven ❤️
Great video! Looking forward to seeing all your different projects 🧵❤️
I love your quilt
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
yes all the blackbirds and must always have a red sampler going at all times. lol
