Very well said at the end, You & others like you have inspired me to get out there & partake in this contagious hobby. I put it off for a year and tried to get it out of my psyche. Didn't work. Then last yr I searched out a mentor, an 80yr old guy appeared who needed deck hands . We all had a blast! Now I have my own 12' howmar, learning as I go. It's so much nicer doing it, than talking about it. Praise God. And thank you ! Love your boat . John Mascuppic lake Tyngsborough, ma. 🇺🇸
Thanks Roger! Love how calm you are launching, anchoring, and docking. No panic, just laid back sailing. I learn because you post. Thanks from BC Canada.
This. This is sailing. No rush to get there. No worries with performance. No pretentious boats, gears or gadgets. No place for ego. Just enjoying another amazing day. Arriving to places with the help of the wind. Learning the rhythm of the ocean.
I liked the sailing, but actually, I most enjoyed the brilliant sunlight as you were backlit getting off the boat at the ramp and the golden colors and silhouetted people on the dock.
live to work, vs work to live - a wonderful discussion in the states, we love to plan our outings and then follow through, life too short to not be outside, on land or water - wonderful outing - fighting green monster of envy:)
I'm sure you appreciate this already but (at least the parts we see of it) you seem to live a wonderful life :) Being able to go for a day sail to a sleepy french pub is pretty special.
I enjoyed your video a lot Roger. Thanks very much. I have to sell my beautiful Shetland Yoal sailboat due to my back problems but realise my best sailing days were always about just going where the wind took me around Findhorn bay in Scotland. Sailing in Brittany looks just sublime.
Thank you, Roger. The same day, I found little wind on the Rance and in the Saint-Malo bay. As you say, sailing involves a sense of routine and the ordinary - and a sense of wonder in the world that surrounds us.
We don't always need an adventure, it's good to step back from our everyday responsibilities even for just a little while and live in the moment. As always thanks for sharing your day.
This is the sort of day that appeals to me, take the family for a sail lunch in a pub by the sea river, then take the boat home. Just need find the right setup.
Roger, What a beautiful video! Your closing words hit the cord. Thank you from an old man who stills works but dreams of sailing in small boats. Roger, you keep my dream alive through your videos and down home commentary. Long live the Queen! A yankee in Arizona.
Hah, my home waters, Rade de Brest, as I've lived afloat 3 years here, based in Camaret for the long stormy winters, and anchoring, exploring Atlantic coast, all summer. I love seeking out those endless nooks and crannies of the Rade, even though my 1.7m draft scrapes bottom occasionally. I used to be an avid wayfarer dinghy cruiser, in Suffolk, coastal, estuaries and muddy creeks, with many adoptions to camp, and sail in most conditions. If I could find somewhere to store, ashore here, I'd have a simple dayboat, dinghy, even sailing canoe to these magical places. Very inspired by your video. Thank you.
I am slowly making my way back to Europe in a 34ft boat and have been wondering where best to live aboard (6 months a year). Don't want the temperatures of the Mediterranean or Iberian Perninsuar so thought about either the Zuiderzee (Netherlands) or Brittany.. Why did you choose Camaret and would you recommend it?
@@stephenburnage7687 although it can be very heavy skies, wet, misty, storms Dec to Feb, the temperatures are always moderate, being well out into Atlantic. It's probably the cheapest winter berth in France, although I've heard Dinan town quay is a great proposition, upriver from St Malo, if your draft modest, and totally protected, with a great ancient town. Camaret is small, isolated, far from Brest, just a daily bus, 7am, €2, but has one of everything needed, pharmacist, post office, v well stocked big supermarket, 2 boulangerie, and many bars, bistro, small restaurants, fish sellers, Chandler, sailmaker. Mostly, it's stunningly beautiful raw nature, ever changing sky, light, and easy going, unpretentious people, that make it home for me, and wows friends that visit. It can get many storms though, some winters, but last winter was exceptionally calm, barely any.
@@Neptuneboy1959 Thank-you for the feedback! Much appreciated. I am still a year or two away, (currently in Panana, halfway on my expedition from Vancouver, Canada back to the UK) but will look out for you once I get there!
Your closing words are soo true Roger. Thank you for bringing a simple peaceful sail to our screens. In this busy world I for one am guilty of not seeing enough pleasure in the simple things - thank you for the reminder to slow down and savour life iteself.
Perfect. Thanks Roger. I'm known more as a musician than a sailor but it's the same. Playing a seaside pub on such a day, there's nothing to report to RUclips but I love watching the sailors like you tying up for a bite with a friend. Hi from Florida where pubs are tiki huts and we feel the connection.
Lovely views there at your cafe stop. I'd love to have a little boat to sail around but Northampton has just a few small lakes or waterways and the vosts to sail there seem over the top.
These videos are starting to take an air of classic french cinema.... (with a touch of the Barry Normans at the end). I love it. Soon, you'll be invited to Cannes... More please. It's therapy just as much as it is sailing.
Absolutely! To be fair, almost all of our days on the water are these lovely types of “adventures”. That’s what the kids love, and those are the memories they will keep that will ultimately draw them back to the water later in life. Thanks again for a great video! More of these please :) although don’t stop the grand adventures either!

Great video! Not every video needs to be an epic adventure. It is relaxing to watch you sail. Sometimes that’s what people need.
Some days when nothing much happens turn out to be the best days. Merci
Roger, your french language has improved remarkably.

Never “just” a day out….always beautiful and always appreciated. Thanks for Canada!
Your parting words; medicine for the soul. Lovely film, thank you Roger.🙏🌞
I liked the sailing, but actually, I most enjoyed the brilliant sunlight as you were backlit getting off the boat at the ramp and the golden colors and silhouetted people on the dock.
Nice video and a great reminder that we dont need to be Shackleton every time we go out, but just make the most of the day. Wonderful.
Your 'ordinary' day made my day better.....Thank you Roger.

Thank you from Texas. Most enjoyable 1/4 hour. 👍⛵️🔥
Merci encore M. Barnes, pour ce petit jour d'automne.
"Nothing really happened. Just sailing around the Rade, visiting a bar." Sounds perfect.
Every day on the water is a gift. You're a wise man, Roger.
I like the red ensign flying in the background !

Sure is! Not something we really get to do in Tasmania - far too much wilderness between watering holes!
@@afloatinawoodenboat And Port Phillip too boring.
@@dt3434 that’s no good - I’ve not sailed port Phillip before.
Thank you Roger! Nothing more to say.
Nice video Roger.
Yes, daily life is interesting. A nice, quiet outing is calming. Very much enjoyed your video. Thank you!!
Always a wonderful respite from the tumbles and jumbles of daily land life. Thank you.

Sometimes you need profanity to describe the impact Roger’s videos have ! So beautiful and heart-warming .
